Your global eq settings made my favorite patches sound amazing. All the overdrive/distortion sounds had some really bad fizzy digital sound to them. None of the tweaking I did with the amp preamp or drive settings helped as much. Thank you for making these videos!
Sweet tones! I'm being stubborn about getting the Helix; don't want to shell out $1500, so I'm battling with my hd500x. I *know* this unit is capable of very respectable tonal quality as evidenced by your video and countless others that I have seen. Oh hell, maybe I should just commission someone with a Gibson Les Paul to create some presets for me...
carabidus thank you for your comment. I've been struggling with this for a long time. Finally got it right with the global EQ thing. I did end up buying the Helix but I refuse to let the 500x go as it is IMHO ahead of it's time.
OK, so I went back and adjusted the global EQ exactly as described in the video. Sheron, I cannot believe what a difference that made! Before the adjustments, my tone sounded lifeless as if giant pillows were pressed against the speakers. I almost gave up on the POD, but now my tone sounds on par with the more expensive modelers that I've previewed. Anyone on a budget should seriously watch this video and consider a POD in lieu of a Kemper or Axe FX. Your EQ adjustments puts the POD in an entirely different league. Cheers!
A very complete pedal, and amazing playing! How good are the compresor noise suppressor and boost? Are they as good as individual pedals? Thanks for the review. Srry for my bad english :P
As always, a very well thought out solid approach in your video. Quick question, have you noticed any tone variation when setting up a patch if you’re not using a Variax for your guitar? Curious about that. Thank you Sheron!
Sean Arnold thanks bro! Guitar wise, I was using the normal pickups, but in any case, all guitars differ from one another so your tone will change with every guitar. Thanks for your comment bud!
wanted to DM you with this, but couldn't find your message option. Anyway, don't know if you've ever come across this, but it was also helpful. A slightly different approach, but informational. Hope you like the link. Here is the link below ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iJ9v7SCCt_c.html
Great stuff sir!! One question, what settings are being used on the mixer block? L & R channels centered at zero or some other settings? My guess is that they are at the default (L & R channels panned L & R). Thanks
Thanks for the response. BTW, I built this patch as shown, it sounds really good, probably better than anything I've attempted over the years. I've had the HD300 now the HD500X for awhile. I haven't tried the Global EQ part yet. I want to see how it effects the other patches I've created. Thanks again for posting this video, very informative.
I have a question.. I use Reaper to record hower, when I record via Pod Hd500... the recorded guitar part feels like it has a lot of reverb when actually the reverb is off... The guitar part is not 'in the face' but feels like the recording is done from far off... Please help Any suggestions will be helpful
I just got mine today I have catalina Mac software and every time I try to download the driver for the usb it doesn’t work it makes my Mac restart and everything but when I get it back up and running I open monkey and still has the error sign
Are you Programming the patches with actual live volume ?, i find editing patches in, say, bedroom then going to a studio, the volumes, drives and effects are way too high and have to tweak accordingly, which is a pain when rehearsing or, even gigging, i still use my stomp boxes but, want to use the HD500 for live gigs
So, how can edit this if I'm not using the 4 cable method live? I only run the pod throuth the effects loop. I want to edit what I made years ago but 2 of my knobs for editing on the pedal are bugged so I am unable too. I'm hoping I can find a work around I'm going to plug it into my computer now
On the Global EQ settings you showed, you went to Page 11/12, the System Settings on my HD 500X only go to Page 10 and I can't find the Global EQ settings anywhere else.
If I wanted to use one preset amp , will that preset come with one channel or can I switch from a clean to a dirty sound with out using a different preset or stompbox
Cathal Burke the clean and dirty channels on a given amp are separate modules so I don't think it's doable. You can however add one clean and one dirty module and turn them on and off as needed. On the Helix you could assign one switch for this job, on the 500x you'll need two.
Been thinking of getting the hd500x, it's for 400$ new over here. Although, have heard a lot about really hard times with this unit about getting your own sound. I have already used a multi effect before, and some of pc softwares like amplitube etc... You think there should be a problem? The helix is way too expensive, if it's says that's I need to sit and change the setting for 10 more minutes I rather that than add 1200$
Or Wiess the 500x is a wonderful unit but it can’t be compared to the Helix in almost any way. If you use my global EQ settings or similar settings your sounds will be easier to program. If you can spend more I would recommend the Helix LT rather. It is newer than the 500x and will also be supported for longer. Not to mention that the sounds are just WAY better.
Jamie Bradbury I don’t see why not, however, imho, I’m not sure why you’d need the EQ if you’re coming out of the 500x into an amp and then mic’ing it up? The whole idea behind this EQ settings is to better emulate the amp/cab/mic/cable/preamp/EQ settings of a live PA situation. As I haven’t used an amp in a live gig in years, these settings helped me get a better and more consistent sound though the PA. If you’re still using an amp I hardly think it’ll be of that much use for you? But try it and let me know?
thanks, I've only had the unit for a few days so still getting to grips with what it can & cant do, I watched your video an noticed this wasn't something I had done so or come across while messing around with it. I've created a few patches so far on the software but still trying to get grip with the on-board interface on the unit. thanks for the information & prompt reply your video was a great help.
I can't find global eq in my Pod HD 500X. If i'm entering into setup i only have 10 pages. 11 and 12 are missing. Do you know why? Or do you have any idea how can i reach global eq settings? Thank you!
György Németh I’m going to guess maybe it’s a firmware issue? Check your version and upgrade to latest. However it should be avail on all previous versions. I’ve moved on to Helix so I’ll need to pull my 500x out of storage to check....
