Both my parents (close to being 90), have high cholesterol, one had a mild stroke, other has mid level dementia. Over the yrs., their (SAD) diet has been awful. I went whole food plant based 6 yrs ago. I often ask myself how different could it have been if they had gone vegan. My respects to you for being curious & inquisitive & trying things out. I read a couple of years ago: The China Study. It was mentioned in a RU-vid video on nutrition. At the end of the 1970’s , the Chinese government, concerned and perplexed by different cancers specific to certain parts of the country, invited scientists from Oxford and Cornell Universities to join with their own scientists and study the matter. The teams in 1980 I believe concluded that different diets in different areas of China were the direct link to cancers clusters. A US Congressional Committee lead by George McGovern accepted the findings: broadly that eggs, dairy and meat were harmful to human health. However, the committee recommendations were watered down after extensive lobbying, rendering the subsequent report a poor copy of the original. My point is, that the link to certain foods and serious harm was known 40 years ago, yet sadly the facts are still not largely reported or known by the wider public. I am a big fan of Michael Greger and all his associates and colleagues.

Perryton is officially the Wheatheart of the nation. The other started a office machine and phone store in the same town. Both had wives and kids, everything similar. Exact same personality, weight, etc. The farmer died at 50 with a cancerous brain tumor and the other is alive, happy and completely healthy at 75. The difference, in my opinion, the farmer worked with pesticides often. Pesticides kill. 😳👎

I’m eating an evidence-based diet, with the target of no more than 10% fat, 10% protein, and 80% complex carbs. I follow the Daily Dozen and have devoured your books, How Not to Die and How Not to Diet. I’m looking forward with great anticipation to reading How Not to Age. I walk-run on a near daily basis, logging 40-60 miles per week. At 65, I am concerned about dementia, as my dad died at age 79 with late-stage dementia due to Alzheimer’s and my mom died at 75 with dementia. I’m open to further guidance on how to lower my lipid counts and distance myself from the risk of Alzheimer’s, and appreciate your audience’s ideas and recommendations.

My total cholesterol is in the 120s and LDL in the 80s. The LDL is usually in the 60s but I ate more garbage (meat, cheese pizzas, sweets when I was high and got the munchies) in the last year. The real good LDL years I had 10-20 non-vegan meals out of about a thousand for the year. I also walked an hour about half the days in the year. Joel Fuhrman in Eat to Live says eat gbombs daily. That's the foundation of my diet. G reens, B eans, O nions, M ushrooms, B erries, S eeds. Sometimes I run out of mushrooms. Otherwise, I get my daily gbombs. I found Greger after Fuhrman and follow him like an obedient dog. I've made dozens of adjustments to my diet from watching his videos. I've given his book How not to Die to two nieces for wedding presents with an inscription like "The greatest gift I can give you newlyweds is more time, a longer life to enjoy each other's company. That why you're getting this book." I belong to a CSA farm and get a box of organic veggies every week during the growing season. I get so many dark green leafies that I juice them with water and ground flaxseeds to drink down, just to keep up. Dark green leafies are the # 1 best category of food, just like dairy is the #1 worst category of food. I avoid fast foods, processed foods, sweets and junk. Hope this helps you Pat.

I read a lot of the works written by all the great vegan Doctors & i watch a lot of their videos. What they all seem to share is their belief in the WHOLE FOOD VEGAN DIET with NO OIL. It seems to be the common denominator for most disease reversal AND prevention. It specifies WHOLE FOODS (as unprocessed as possible) such as: Vegetables, fruit, legumes, wholegrains. No oils. No animal foods. No dairy. Drink water. Oh...and i believe if u have not had a cardiac event (& if u are not trying to lose weight) small amounts of nuts & seeds are okay also.

@@bundletesla5882 It seems that when I link something or recommend specific free databases, it deletes my comment. Find a database and search for "IgG and Crohn's disease" and you'll find research that shows a patient's triggers can be detected by food specific IgG antibodies. Those antibodies also go away with traditional Crohn's disease meds. There's also research into common triggers for Crohn's disease patients based on food specific IgG antibodies. Surprisingly, one of them was rice, and reading that helped me recognize that rice was a trigger for me personally. There doesn't seem to be similar research for AS unfortunately, but maybe it's still worth looking into because it's caused by the same gene as Crohn's?

The problem is I never have any reactions I can associate with any particular foods. I read about the typical red meat issues, but even that was difficult to associate with AS flare ups. But I haven't eaten red meat for years anyway. I worked hard at fitness and diet all my life, but the disease continued hounding me in internal ways (regardless of my efforts), and in connective tissue, not to mention fusions and movement limitations. And Dr. Bredsesen recommends a keto diet, as does his colleague Dr. Perlmutter, who also has a podcast on RU-vid. It would be nice to see a debate pitting some of the big names in the vegan world, versus some big names in the keto world. I'd like to know how Dr. Greger would respond to Bredesen, Perlmutter and others. All I know is I became a vegan about three years ago and lost 10 lbs in the first three months, (180 down to 170) and that's all, despite the fact that I was told my weight would come "melting off." I went off my statin because my total cholesterol was at 120. But, without the statin it went to 170, which I wasn't satisfied with, so I went back on the statin, taking the same dosage, but every other day instead of every day. I still take a blood pressure medication, even though I was led to believe I would come off all medications. Btw, I work out five days a week, and eat very clean. I could never eat meat or poultry, but I'm beginning to think that the vegan diet doesn't works for everyone. I'm thinking maybe I should consider a keto-vegetarian diet, which reduces the amount of carbs. I feel betrayed by all of the vegan doctor's promises.

@@Max.Resilience Humans haven't eaten the majority of their calories from meat for millions of years. You should read some actual science. Consumption of meat causes the production of uric acid. Of all animals that include meat in their diet, humans are the only animal unable to break down uric acid to allantoin. This is because humans do not have the necessary enzyme uricase. This leads to an increased possibility of an accumulation of uric acid in the body when animal products are eaten. Humans do have a gene for urate oxidase, but it is nonfunctional. @@yt-qg8ui What's gone is gone. Western diets have increased boldness among Asians. It's the uncompensated oxidative stress.

Where have you gotten your idea of what healthy looks like? Remember nature doesn't support body building...etc.

Why do people say things like that? Dr. Greger is a very healthy weight. He has no complexion problems. He behaves as if he has a lot of energy. Just because you are vegan does not mean it it will make men end up looking like George Clooney. Dr. Greger looks fine!

@@BeavisandButthead-z8h I'm grateful for it's Inventor, too. But although I've enjoyed sauna most of days of my life, it only gave 2 hour reliefi to my itches, pains and respiratory problems. I had to eliminare the causes behind symptoms to get well. That is, vegan and later WFPBD. Now I 'm free from asthma, neural pains, arthritic pains and my skin is so much better - don't need tacrolimuse any more. And I don't suffer from narcolepsy either no longer. Nutrition was the only lifestyle change I made. Finnish milky and meaty food culture does so much harm! Our food choises do matter. I recommend a documentaries Food choices and Forks Over Knives if you have any health issues left. Have a wonderfull week!
