This was a really great video. A lot of people needed to hear this. I did not deviate from the approved Harley parts except the S&S that was approved for the 50 states. (2 into1). I have a 2018 114 Heritage and did not want to lose my warranty. I have sense signed on to the extended warranty. The M8 for the softtails has been great but long term I thought it worth getting the extended warranty. I live in the south east so I my dealer of choice is Adamecs. ethics mean a lot and they have it and I see that in you all. good to know there are great dealers like you both east and west. again great video and taking the time to educate.

I was in a situation where my lifters went for the second time on a 110. The second set of lifters went 2 years out of warranty and had to rebuild the whole motor because of metal shaving from the lifter. Harley covered everything I only had to pay labor. I was happy with that for sure

Just got back from a 3500 mile trip through Colorado, Climbing mountains over 13,000 ft, I have a 2020 CVO Roadglide completely stock. The bike performed flawlessly, more power than I will ever need, not interested in changing anything, the M8 engine has been a game changer as far as stock engines go, plenty of power and torque, my old 2007 twin cam 103 needed stage 1 and 2 just so I could reliably pass another vehicle without freaking out when I cranked the throttle and no power came on, hoping I would make it!

Can’t wait to hear you guys discuss the new stage iv 128 and 131 kits. I’m really hoping to see the kits available for the Softails next year

Another great video, I was under the impression that I could not upgrade my exhaust without voiding my whole warranty. Will just stick with the SE tuner and go with the V&H Big Radius. Should make that 2020 Lowrider S scream Thanks for this podcast guys!

Great info, appreciate it very much, not that I love the situation after gaining a much better understanding of warranty implications. Wish I would have seen this before I bought a 20K bike not understanding I would be locked in to Screaming Eagle parts / tuners. Frankly, if I understood this better I may have bought used, saved thousands, and used that money to build the bike I want. I am in love with the TBR 2 into 1 pipes and was hoping to use Power Vision tuner, this setup is out of question now while under warranty. After seeing this and reading other resources, I have to decide if the risk of TBR but using Harley tuner is worth it. My gut tells me any risk on such expensive parts is a no-go given in the end Milwaukee could simply choose to void my warranty due to pipes only.

Great job with the video fellas, I feel bad for you California folks. Speaking of warranty issues or shall I say the lack of thereof was the Twin Cam 88 with the junk spring tensioners. Makes ZERO sense how or why that garbage design was NEVER recalled! My engine blew up at a mere 20k miles. Damn shame... Went back to an Evo, you can have all the fancy computer bikes with their throw away engines.

Harley Davidson fixed a spring failure on my 2015 flhxse 1 year out of warranty no charge to me at all. The bike was bone stock. Love the motor company.

I have been shopping around for an adventure bike and they have all these aftermarket parts you can add from engine, suspension, emc, frame. When asking about warranty coverage from all these different brands, the same is answer is given. Use aftermarket parts and it will void your manufacture warranty. I have friends who are into off-roading using atv/4x4s and the same applies to them especially Jeeps with all their aftermarket parts. If you are made of money then no worries but most of us aren't. Why not play buy the rules and have the warranty to cover the bike especially if new. Keith and Matt do a great job of explaining this. (Exhaust discussion: I feel for you folks in Commifornia. If you could hear yourselves talk about this. Sounds like you live in another separate nation apart from the US. I would say vote these people out to change the laws but think you are the minority).

Really like my stage se stage 3 kit with auto tuner se manifold and s&s sidewinder if I Switch out EPA exhaust muffler just change the muffler to the race muffler will the SE auto tuner correct for the changes with a Bike still runs great with a little louder sound

Great video, for sure cleared up a few questions I have. I for sure see why Harley won’t and really can’t warranty someone else’s part. That’s just being smart. That said, I think there is close to zero chance of a failure by putting for example a cam chest kit from a reputable company for example S&S on your bike. No they don’t work in the Harley factory, but they are engineers and riders also and I’m sure have done hundreds upon hundreds of hours testing to make sure their products work with Harley stuff. It wouldn’t be out there if it was blowing up motors all the time. If you are out of warranty already or don’t care about keeping your warranty intact, go for it. I would for sure make sure I got parts from a very reputable company like S&S but don’t let this video scare you that it might blow your motor up!

Putting the catalytic convertor in the head pipe really sucks. That heat generated from the CC really gets old on HD's. Which is why I replaced the whole pipe including the head pipe on my 2015 RGS with a Rinehart pipe. Stock, the MO needs to move the CC down towards the muffler section and away from the rider like liter bikes do. Anyhow, good podcast as usual, full of information.

Let me tell you something about CARB. They have their own prosecutor and he is as concerned about financing his agency as they are the air. If they do a sting on you , you will be lucky if the 10k minimum is all you pay. They will look at your pocket and see what they can squeeze out of you without to much of a fight. You will not want to get fined again unless you are completely stupid. Yes I have had to deal with them and just talking to them you will see they play by their own set of rules, there is no law to fight over. What you CAN do is vote out these control freaks !

There are 50 state legal s and s exhaust I found the dealer will honor warranty as long as they install it has harley tuner air filter as long as you install 45 days from purchase

What if you are a year from end of extended warranty and decide to upgrade engine from day 107 or so to the 131 does it cover same from other parts ect too that are added in when engine is being done?

Matt you gotta teach Keith not to interrupt. You're the boss. You need to run the show. I want to hear what you have to say. You tend to address the practical (what everyday riders want to know), whereas Keith tends to drift into technical jargon that most people don't understand/care about.

49:10 How important is my warranty ? I suppose I'll answer that with : how reliable is Harley Davidson? If I don't do any mods whatsoever, should I really think about getting an extended warranty? I'm kinda hoping they're built to last. I suppose I'd like to change the exhaust... minimally, as the sound out of the M8 isn't quite as Harleyish as it used to be :-) Perhaps I'll just wait until my original 2 year warranty expires. Awesome video on a very important topic, to many different options on it. I’ll be a new rider soon, planing on a Iron 1200 or Street Bob, So Matt/LHD team, I don’t really care about doing tons or power, I just want to ride and have my bike sound sick. If I put an aftermarket exhaust like a TBR and VH upsweep 2 into 1, from what I got from this discussion, do you need to tune the bike just with an exhaust or will the bike will be ok with that, also seems like that doesn’t void your power train warranty, correct?, now if you go an add a SE air cleaner, are you good and cover as long as you use SE tuner, is that correct as well?, Great video again. I know you have covered this on old videos, but a new updated one like this version on what could be a new rider starter bike will be great, have heard different options on that the street bob can be an starter bike if you conscious of the powers it makes.

With regards to the pro tuner I understand it allows you to change VE tables but will it allow you to change AFR table?

It's just a matter of time before the EPA demands that all bikes be required to have emissions testing. Thank God I still live in a free state.

I watched this couple times, still confused about slip on mufflers, since the softails have the cat system in the muffler, wouldn't they have to be tuned or just have to make sure new slip on's have a cat also?

On my 107 I had the dealer do stage one with the pro street tuner question I have, if I have the dealer install a Zipper’s torque cam that they design for the 107 and keep the compliant pro street tuner would that void my power train warranty

Have a 2021 STREET Bob 114 and am from Canada and had a Stage 1 done at dealer before the 60 days was up and all Screamin Eagle stuff. Pipes, SE tuner etc. I didn't care for the sound of the SE slip-ons so I changed to S&S Grand Nationals slip-ons with NO Cats in them. Will I void my 5 year warranty with these pipes with NO Cats? Street Bob's have the Cats in the mufflers and not in the head pipes.

Will Harley void the warranty of the engine case leaking oil because it wasn't sealed properly from manufacturer if you installed an aftermarket tuner?

I think the biggest problem people have with Harley's warranty policy is, let's say an aftermarket tuner is installed and later down the road the oil pump takes a sh*t and Harley refuses the warranty claim, and that's a problem when the tuner has nothing to do with the oil pump.

Is it worth it to have an Auto Tuner with just slip ons and an air cleaner (stage 1) ? I thought it would be good to get optimum performance and would be a few hundred more than a lesser HD tuner. But in the podcast it refers to using it with Stage 3/4.

Smart Auto tuner I was thinking on putting the Samson Longhorn full Exhaust. I love the sound and think if I remove the cat my bike it will run more cooler.? But seeing this video made me think! My Harley is still under warranty and I really don’t want to mess with that especially since they extended warranty wasn’t cheap! Will putting the Samson mess with my warranty? Or should I leave it the way it is. It’s not like I don’t enjoy or it doesn’t put a smile on my face. 🤘🏻😁 What is your suggestion? And one more thing was recently going to put a stage 2 S.E.585 cams but my local dealer #Riverside told me it’s couldn’t be done on my 16FLSS because of E.P.A is this true?? Question: I purchased a 2020 Road Glide Limited new from my local HD dealer. I have had Harleys for over 55 years, my dealer is telling me the warrantee is void if I do my own 1000-mile first service. Dealer said they will need to do the first service. I preformed this service using the factory HD service manual (I save all receipts including the Service Manual) my response to them: that can only be true if the dealer preforms service for free. Only mod to bike is slip ons, I told them I may be seeing them in court if I have warrantee problems, they had nothing to say. What is your view on this? Nice videos thank you.

So installing the 2:1 from S&S that is 50 state legal and tuning with an SE tuner would not void your powertrain warranty? And installing a 2:1 exhaust or say a V&H short shot system turned with a SE tuner would void the powertrain warranty but shouldn’t void the warranty if tuned with the SE tuner paired with the SE “auto tuner”.

So if I put Harley parts within the 60 days after purchase of the bike they are included in the two year warranty????

Does an non Harley tuner effect an extended service plan?

Here’s the simple summary. If you change shocks your shocks aren’t covered. If you change your handle bars it doesn’t void your warranty but obviously void the handle bars and maybe switches because you altered them Harley is and was built on customization.

Should I concidar it bull , I would surely get dealer in writing to cover it before hand before taking plunge on their word , I called on new harley with 50 state legal exhaust in their advertising asked about warranty on bike said they would cover it

So if my head pipe has the catalytic converter then you can sell me any slip on? Is that what the policy is? So I have a 2007 softail which has no catalytic converter. So does that mean I can buy full exhaust from your store? And do all your sales associates know this?

The smart tune will not allow you to adjust AFR tables, only VE tables. They failed to cover that part.

The fact that something is or is not California compliant is ridiculous. Speaks volumes about the law makers in the state. Obviously not just on cars and motorcycles either.

Pretty much you need to pay far to much for shit quality “performance” parts from Harley. There just saved everyone an hour of their lives.

My issue is voiding a warranty and BLAMING the cause of the malfunction on something (tuner/fp3) that didn’t actually cause the malfunction. For example, my sportster gets blowby into the engine and causes carbon to build on the pistons over time, and this is not good for the engine eventually causing a malfunction. The tuner had nothing to do with the malfunction, the blowby is a design implemented into the bike when it’s completed stock by making sure oil blows into the throttle body. Its stuff like this that pisses me off about the warranty. Saying your entire powertrain warranty is void because you used a tuner that wasnt screamin eagle is ridiculous, and just an easy way to scrap everyone’s warranty even if the design of the motor is what caused the malfunction.

It is all so funny. Warranty is a very milky area...intentionally so by lawyer advice. The ambiguity is always perfectly clear. Even trying to nail it down is an exercise in ambiguity. Sometimes it just depends on common sense. Let common-sense rule. A muffler is not going to cause an oil leak...generally. Unless that muffler is too close to a seal. Is a very subjective subject.

If I put slip-ons on, would harley deny a oil leak claim?

For the person that just wants to ride there bike and not make any other changes and stick to HARLEY ONLY PARTS and LABOR. The warranty is an wonderful thing. There are some things I think should be warrantied like stage 1 upgrades if you install them yourself correctly. Stages 2 thru 4 are real engine work and should be handle by the motor company. That said, the motor company wants you to not touch your own bike and bring it in for service. If its out out of your limitations to follow the service manual then don't do it. The bike is not truly yours or I should say you're incapable to express yourself to make it your own until you are unleashed from limitations. I'll say just ride the thing until the manufacturer warranty runs out and do what you want. Stay clear from ESP service plans if you want to do upgrades beyond the motor company limits. Me personally I think the aftermarket offer the most bang for the buck as far as rideability and fun when you wack the throttle. The Harley stuff is simply the best you're gonna get under warranty.

I don't agree with this very strict policy, think it has less to do with liability and saving money on claim of which I get...and more to do with a monopoly "forcing" Harley owners to use their designed product... seriously.. I replace tires ...and I'm out of warranty! Come on.

I generally enjoy your videos but this smacks of whitewash. Harley doesn't void the powertrain warranty when using a non Harely tuner for any other reason than the EPA successfully argued that them warranting the powertrain after such a device was installed made them complaisant. No other manufacturer that I am aware of has such a policy (YET). The EPA went after Harley because of their market share hitting the biggest player first. They MAY follow suit with other manufacturers but have yet to do so. Harley folded under pressure. Fact is the Harely Super Tuner of old was designed by TTS; Harely didn't recall them because they didn't work well with their powertrains they did it to be in compliance with the EPAs lawsuit. To state that they void powertrain warranties for compatibility reasons is nonsense. The Magnuson - Moss act puts the burden of proof on the manufacturer in denying a warranty claim yet Harley has made a blanket decision to void all powertrain warranties when an aftermarket tuner is installed. Sadly this has yet to be tested in court of law (I suspect Harley would lose, at least in any state other than CA). I understand that Harley is being squeezed by the EPA but then let's call it what it is not whitewash it.
