I'm almost finished with my graphic memoir of how I used my health and fitness knowledge to stop my mother with mild dementia from forgetting me, and it worked. I tricked her off caffeine, then no prescription meds, forced her/tricked her/incentivized her to drink water, kept her away from high fructose corn syrup and other poison, because they made her mean and delusional, and kept her away from gluten.

If the plant-based diet works then those who are on high protein/keto diets must be getting Parkinson's at a higher/faster rate?

Thanks 😊so much for so much information on PD. What about anti-mosquito DEET spray ? I have used so much of them during the last 20 years.

Interesting info, and thanks for sharing. One minor quibble, though: I always cringe whenever anyone uses the words "strict" or "strictly" to describe a veg*n diet. Such a negative connotation! There's nothing strict about it: lots of variety, flavor, and gustatory satisfaction. No modifiers are necessary. Either someone is veg*an, or they're not. There's no such thing as mostly, primarily, usually, often, occasionally or sometimes veg*an.

@eponymousIme

@@chuckybang Veg*n stands for "vegetarian" and/or "vegan." Depending on the context it could mean "vegetarian" or "vegan" or "vegetarian or vegan" or "vegetarian and vegan." The use of the asterisk is a shorter way of conveying those ideas.
@chuckybang
@chuckybang Год назад
@@eponymousIme Well you either are vegetarian or vegan you arent both. If you are vegetarian but you eat vegan sometimes you are still vegetarian so I dont get why that is necessary.
@eponymousIme
@eponymousIme Год назад
@@chuckybang I explained it in my answer. Instead of writing "vegetarian or vegan," it's easier and simpler to write "veg*n" to refer to both. The context will determine whether the writer is referring to one or the other, or both. EXAMPLE: "Veg*ns often find holiday dining with family to be awkward."

What if you have the genetic marker for Parkinson’s but don’t yet have symptoms? Would a plant-based diet increase your chances of not developing it? My son is 30 and has the marker. He is part of a research study but they are merely tracking the long term impact of diet, exercise, and life style on development of the disease in people with the marker.
@jmc8076

Did you try searching Parkinson’s and role of genetics online? Quick search: “About 15 percent of people with Parkinson's disease have a family history of the condition, and family-linked cases can result from genetic mutations in a group of genes - LRRK2, PARK2, PARK7, PINK1 or the SNCA gene…” (John’s Hopkins) For most if not all disease with a genetic link the general theory is ~10-20% genetic and rest environment (good, lifestyle etc.) Genetics loads the gun but environment plus the trigger: epigenetics. Also more evidence for role of microbiome.

Low carb is likely your issue! Carbohydrates in the form of whole grains will provide some much needed nutrients and fiber as well as slow down digestion making you feel full and satiated throughout the day. Good luck to you! Seeing a nutritionist could be highly beneficial. Don't forget about nuts and seeds!!
