Podcast: What to make of Kansas' road loss to Illinois 

I am an Illini fan that sat right next to your dad and he is a very pleasant person! Was very cool learning that he was your dad knowing I had listened to you and Jeremy Werner on the podcast!

In all honesty, kansas offered us gifts. Why were they throwing when they're 3rd and 4? We couldn't stop Kansas run game and it feels like they hardly went to it. Kansas was the more talented and better team that made bad decisions this game.

Thanks guys. Always excellent work. Absolutely ridiculous to say the season is over. This stuff happens to good teams early in the season every year. It was a bad game for our QB. Big deal. It's a bit concerning, but look at his body of work. Jalon will get it going. As a team, the boys are clicking pretty good. I'm still excited about this team and looking forward to Friday.

The bright side of this, is that we are disappointed reflecting the efforts of Leipold normally a game like this we would have clapped and said good game and taking the L with dignity not being upset. Now most fans are disappointed and wanting a better show.

Illinois fan here, just wanted to see the perspective from the other side. I can’t understand why they didn’t run the ball more. The comment that got me was “Luke Altmyer would probably be a bottom half of quarterback in the BIG 12” right after seeing Jalon Daniels turn the ball over 4 times 😂

Exactly. You hit the nail on the head. Daniel has truly never proven himself. He’s never finished multiple games in a row. He’s had all this hype and all this money thrown out yet you have three of the best receivers in the big 12 and can’t get them to ball consistently there’s no reason whatsoever, Skinner shouldn’t have two or three touchdowns a game. 6’5 run of 4’4

Some observations: Illinois was angry as hell at Kansas for last years loss. The game was sold out with 60,650 Illinois fans were ready to get revenge. Big 10 Schools don't like losing to Big 12 Schools. This was not our best performance. A fumble and an interception in front of a crowd like that usually spells disaster. Not the best play calling of Jalons career. He had an unusually bad night. 4 turnovers usually guarantee a bad game, It happens to the best QBs. Would this have happened at Arrowhead? Maybe. The officiating was slanted towards Illinois on several key plays. It's time to keep the faith and go on to UNLV in KC. It's not time to lose faith in the future of KU Football, Coach Leipold, or Travis Goff. It is time to keep the faith.

Illinois put in a quicker back on their final drive and it worked.

My question is why did Jim Z not get the OC job? He called an incredible game last year against UNLV. Does he not want the play calling duties? Does Lance not trust him? I’m pretty sure he was the OC at Whitewater before Andy took over.

Good review. Illinois fan. Kansas has a dynamic offense for sure. But IL just kept the ball trying to retain possession time 11min to 3 last quarter. Def not the most exciting style for IL offensively, but I think IL was trying to play a possession game. Limited the amount of drives, so it made those turnovers even bigger.

How about give Illinois credit for being the better team that night period.

Need to get back to running the ball more. Devin and Daniel are great running backs need to get them going more. Jalon will bounce back in my opinion. Need to refocus and get ready for Unlv.

Honestly i wouldn't make too much out of this. They LOST-its a game--you lose sometimes. KU football has a lot going for it. Learn from the loss and move on. I like Coach Leipold. KU is up and coming give them a chance.

Everyone is talking about Grimms… Kansas has one of the top receivers in the country in Skinner. He is wide open almost every play and Daniel’s can’t get him the ball. It’s very sad. They need to just try the freshman.

A screen route has become when an OC can’t think of a play praying one of his athletes make a play. That’s in every level of football.

I don't think that KU did all that much @ Illini, but KU will have a good season I think.

It has never made sense either. Why you’re running a reverse or a pitch to a 6’5 195 wide receiver. I’m not exactly sure what the OC is thinking but get Skinner to ball downfield and see what he does not trying to weave in and out of linebackers when you’re 6’5 makes no sense.

You can't discount luck on the road either. The fumble muff somehow helped Illinois. The one handed catch. The DPI flag picked up. The OPI and drop counted as a 38- yard catch. The fumbled end around. Made the team press when it had this one.

On the catch he had to use one arm the other was in an arm bar.

That's what happens when an average team from a glorified FCS conference, plays an average Power 2 team.
