Join the Lolcohol Discord server: discord.gg/BbJchxHpwR - HUGE THANKS to Aimless who set this up, single-handedly :) Please let me know if you have any questions below :) Something to clarify: when I said that you can't have two of the same mod on an item, I should've said you can't have two of the same prefix or suffix on the item. There are SOME mods (not many) that appear both as prefixes AND suffixes and you can have a prefix and suffix that both grant the same mod (such as +#% to cold damage), but never two prefixes that both grant +#% to cold damage (unless it's a hybrid mod, which we'll go into in Episode 3).
@@Lolcohol X is always a possibility. Also, do you have a community discord or something? I looked in your twitch and youtube bio and couldn't find a link if there is
@@mcshwami9009 I hadn't thought of doing that. Do you think I should? I suppose, even if there are only a couple of people there to start with, it'd be good. This might be a really dumb question, but I haven't joined a creator's Discord before and am not sure what purpose it serves!
Finally a guide that starts at the beginning. Every guide I've found, even those supposedly for beginners assumes a level of knowledge/experience. Much appreciated.
I'm glad! Yeah a lot of people assume a ton of knowledge and miss these foundations. Just a note: these videos become increasingly out of date as they go on, but the first couple should remain relevant! There are some more recent crafting guides but with every set of patch notes, things change slightly and those might be somewhat out of date too, but will still be good to learn from!
Thanks! Yeah, if you're experienced, none of this will be new :) but I like having players like you watching to keep me in line haha. Thanks, Chromodar for commenting on so many videos😊
I'm so glad! Some of the later episodes are quite out of date, but the first couple should still be relevant. recommend checking out Subtractem - he recently released a more up to date full crafting guide and he is an awesome guy with content that is very helpful to newer players 😀
It's so refreshing to have a series of videos that talks to you as if you're new. I'm not new, but there's always things to learn, and remember, and I cannot stand all the guides out there that assume you already have your BS in Path of Exile, and are just working on your Masters now. Starter guides with builds that need 10+ex to get online Guides that assume you know everything about how every skill works Builds that assume you start a champion at level 96
Absolutely. A lot of people said I should start this series with Craft of Exile, and while that is important, it's jumping ahead about ten steps. Just like you said, there's tons of amazing content out there, but a lot of it assumes you have a ton of knowledge already so I wanted to make something to help newbies :D glad you appreciated it, even though you're an experienced player
THANK GOD for this guide ... I've tried so many others and they most just go on explaining with assumptions that some other things are known. This is so good as it gets down to the very basics and articulating in a way that is easy to digest and understand.
This is the only guide I've found so far that actually talks to me like I know nothing. All the other noob guides had me completely clueless. THANK YOU and keep it up! :)
As a beginner, let me say this: Thank you! Thank you for a guide that REALLY is aimed at beginners. Thank you for going over everything bit by bit and slowly. Thank you for splitting up the video. Thank you for explaining everything. I never knew i could fix prefixes only f.e.
:D! You're welcome! I really appreciate hearing this. I've had my fair share of terrible teachers over the years (in school - not just for PoE), so I've tried to make sure to not be like them :) I'm so glad that these are helpful
Omg finally! This is my first league and I've watched probably 20 videos on items and crafting and they ALL say beginners guide or noob friendly and then go way off the rails in detail. This video is perfect for new players!
I am BRAND NEW to this game and have some friends helping me get ready for this season, but man did I NEED this!!! Thank you. This was super informative and easy to follow. I feel like I have an excellent base understanding I can actually put to good use! Again - thank you, thank you!
Best video ever, thanks a lot mate. PoE can be extremly hard to understand and is full of informations, which is a pain when you're new to the game and new to H'n S
i think my knowledge about crafting depends on how many episode i watch..and i must watch it all..its good to have an example after an explanation, its make things crystal clear..thank you for your hard work for making these for newbies..you deserve a subs!
Wow, this section is awesome, know nothing about crafting blocked my progress as POE player. Sometimes items in poe trade are ridiculously expensive. Thx for the series u got a new suscriber
Really looking forward to this series ! After more than 2k hours played i finally want to dive into the world of crafting, deep dive it actually, so this series comes at the perfect time, thank you !
Awesome! So glad to hear that :D Hopefully by the end of this you'll be a more knowledgeable player. And I will share some tips on how you can start practicing, even if you don't have currency!
:) great. I hope it helps. When you get to the Harvest one, just know that a lot has changed there! There are no more annul crafts or remove/add crafts and augment and non-type to type can only be used on non-influenced items :(
Thank you so much for this video. It does a very good job of explaining the basics of how/why each part of the item is important. Unlike certain other members in the poe community you dont sound like you've got 10 hotdogs in your mouth when you talk...or speed through the basics. Thank you so very much.
Altough I already knew everything in this part ill be sure to come back for part 2 (as thats probably when the new stuff comes and this videa was pretty great).
Tnx for making this series. I'm pretty New at the game is there's just so much to learn and comprehend. Tnx for helping a noob out, now to watch the others videos in this series 😁 Subscribed! 😎
:D Good luck! I'm glad this series is helpful! I hope the next few episodes aren't overwhelming, but if you have any questions, just ask and I'll answer
Awesome exactly what is needed so glad you went for it I have a ton of people I can send a reference guide on the basics, this game doesnt have a true currency its all crafting materials and so few people understand how the system works
want to know some dude? Your voice and the way u explain the video is so calm that I enjoy the whole video and I never do, always skip to the point, but not this, I just saw "beginners tips, how to not get scam and this one" so please, keep up the good work I'm a casual player, never do more than 15 - 20 ex per league, but your videos are helping many of us a lot, u can't even realize, many of us usually quit POE at 2 or 4 weeks from the league starts just cause the craft, currency making wall, atlas progression Congratulations, found your channel is like an exalt drop, hope many more have the luck to find this 👍
This means so much to me. Thank you! Yeah, PoE is INSANELY complex. I've been playing for ages and still make so many stupid mistakes all the time. Knowing that I'm helping newer players is really great
Ty so much, i now FINALLY understood that crafting basics, without knowing them all other crafting vids were useless. I can not understand how you have such few Views, i think i saw the Videos of all popular streamers , but 90% + were just a waste of Time, dont know why this Plattform is promoting them, probably a collaboration with twitch, i guess... PS realisinging the amount of good rare items i already sold is mindblowing...
I'm really glad this is helping you :) Episode 5 is coming out today! And I'm quite new to RU-vid - I have only been on for a little over 5 months! So it will take time for these to get more views. I don't watch a lot of newbie-focused content, so I'm not totally sure what's out there, but not everyone is a good teacher, even if they know a lot about something. There seems to be this weird idea that if you are an expert, you're automatically an amazing teacher and that's far from the truth
prefix and suffix are also used for titles on a name. prefix being before a name and suffix being after. same goes for item modifiers. prefix are before(top) suffix are after(bottom) though the game doesnt tell you this unless you have advanced tooltips on.
Also I think, as a new player, in the next episode, maybe you should touch in vendor recipes. Like the recipes for resistance rings and even Chaos Recipes.
The next episode is already recorded and ready for upload! But I'll add this to my list of things to cover :) I think that after the first few episodes are done, I'll have a viewer questions episode where I answer everything! Actually a couple of my other videos touch on those - those are super important, but more to do with recipes than crafting. But yeah - definitely something to cover in future
Loved your approach to make things simple for us new player to the game. Great stuff - Subscribed!! Question: how do I learn recipe “Obas Cursed Trove” to unlock crafting recipe suffixes cannot be changed. I need the “cannot be changed” recipes so I can actually start applying the crafts
3? You mean including the implicit? If you did mean the implicit, then yeah, technically 3, but we don't usually include that when we talk about how many affixes an item of different rarities can have :) And thanks!
One thing I would like to see is, I hear other streamers talking about crafting an item and they say something about blocking certain mods so you’re guaranteed a mid you want. If I have that right, can you explain that also? Thanks for this, it’s a great help.
You have that right! We absolutely will be going through that but we first have to understand a few more things before that will make sense :) thanks for the question though - I will make a point to make that extra clear when we go over it 😊
@@Lolcohol Yeah I understand. Lots to learn with crafting, just wanted to get that question out there so it could get answered. Thanks for all of your work!
hey, thanks for the video, helped me understand a lot and it was nice and short. gonna continue on to the next video. I did have one question, if your in that scenario you mentioned where your prefixes are perfect but your suffixes are not or vice versa, how do you target only prefixes or only suffixes?
I should go into that in a later video! But there are bench crafts called Suffixes cannot be changed and Prefixes cannot be changed that allow you to work on the two halves separately :)
I feel like im watching more tutorials than playing PoE. First league for me, with Ritual. I made it to sirius boss. could only get him to 20% and now i have to redo eldars i think to beat him... but all these how to get rich and craft. i still have no clue... ppl say farm exalted 3-5 per hour .. ive gotten two or three on 150 hours... i guess im lucky that toxic rain was incredible cheap build to make else id never make it so far. I still have no idea how to get into "endgame" items / gearing it seems. its always guides for now you have 400 exalted orbs here how to get richer lol.. hope these will give me more knowledge in the long run on how to go from mid to late game more easially ! thanks for the video.
Don't worry - that's normal. This game is ridiculously complex and there's tons to learn, so it's good that you're watching tutorials :) The fact that you even made it to Sirus on your first league is excellent progress - few new players make it that far. Also, Sirus is the dumbest, worst designed boss from any game I've ever played, so don't worry if you didn't kill him. His mechanics are absolutely stupid As for how people get rich - they never actually find raw exalts on the ground, but they employ strategies that give them items that they can sell for Exalts. So when they say they're making "3-5ex per hour", they mean they're picking up items/selling things worth that amount. Check out my video on Harvest - that's an example of a strategy you can use to make some more money! :)
Awesome! I've been telling my friends I'm doing my third semester for a Bachelor degree in PoE. An now there's even homework :) A noob remark: the lower the tier number, the higher the tier, it's kinda confusing. Also, you said item level depends on the map level AND monster level. Aren't they the same thing? Or a boss is higher level than trash in a map, so boss can drop higher level items than the rest of the map?
Damn, you've been playing longer than I have! I started in Jan 2013. Glad that there was something here even for someone like you who's been playing for 10 years!
@@Lolcohol Well, let's be honest. Unless you're a PoE "scholar," the sort of information you provide is scattered and obscure. GGG has created a fine game, but they don't put much effort into making it easy to learn the finer points. I may be an "old timer," but I am and have always been a casual player. I have a PoE "high school diploma," but I lack the inclination to pursue a degree. Thank you for publishing the "PoE For Dummies" series on your channel. =^[.]^=
@@Raycheetah That's very true. There's so much information that it's overwhelming and it's hard to find a single source of all of that information. Hopefully that's what this series is! :) You'll have your diploma by the end!
Just a question on prefixes and suffixes. Do they generally form half the explicit mods each? So on a rare with 6 mods there would be 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes or is it not as simple as that? Love the outro music btw!
Question, do you have to be able to shower in chaos orbs and exalted orbs to make decent items? Ive seen some streams of people crafting and it looks like a prerequisite :(
A little confused, I get what you're saying about the suffixes and prefixes. And I've heard of crafting a suffix to "lock" the suffix slot when your using orbs of alt Is that what you meant by being to modify the two halves separately? I didn't quite get that
So going back to the fact that an item can have 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes: Let's say you want to use a Harvest craft on an amulet that says "augment an item with a random life modifier" and you want to hit something like tier 1 life - 80-89 to Maximum Life (a prefix). You don't want to have any open suffixes that might roll something like "Regenerate # life per second". So if your item has 2/3 suffixes, before you use the craft on the item, you'd want to craft a 3rd suffix, meaning it would have no space for more, meaning that it would only be possible to augment a Life PREFIX. Then, when you use that craft, you wouldn't have to worry about augmenting any of the undesirable Life-tagged suffixes (we go into tags in episode 3). Of course, you might still hit the Life Leech prefix, but you're improving your odds of getting what you want Let me know if that made sense. It's all really complicated but hopefully by the end of the series it'll make some sense.
My question as someone who’s new to this, why do some modifiers split when inspecting it? My friend crafted t1 evasion and it got split with stun recovery. Is that second part something I can remove or is it something I live with? Thanks
Thank you, I am brand new to PoE. I like the game but can tell I am not doing something right. I have all these mats in the bank and dunno what to do with them.
It will take a lot of time to learn, but you'll get there! Just remember: you dont need to know everything immediately! Learn as you go, have fun and over time you will understand more :)
well this is very useful but idk if it is bcs i don't have enough crafts discovered but I cannot seem to be able to edit my affixes. i can only add or remove all, I guess ill have access to those more advanced tools later on? (I'm a new player in act 4 at the moment) for what I understand everyone talks about editing a specific affix or upgrading it but I don't think I can do that, at least not yet
Yeah you won't really engage with much crafting til you've made it into the endgame :) For now, you'll find most of your upgrades through drops on the ground and maybe by using Orbs of Alchemy on items. If this didn't make too much sense, come back to it once you've played a bit more and I'm sure it'll be helpful! You can't really "edit" affixes in PoE - it's more randomised than that, but you'll encounter those mechanics the more you play!
@@Lolcohol thanks a lot man, really helpful answer!!!! And yeah, using currency items and sometimes vendor recipes is where I've got the best luck with item craft. A quick question tho, you said items have lvls, I have never realised that, do you upgrade them overtime passively or it stays the level when you caught it?
What will it be the best way to upgrade with harvest on a hubris circlet elder influence, the flat and percentage energy shield . They both rolled really low, the third prefix is plus minions gems and I want to keep it , hence why I don’t use reroll prefix keep sufix. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciate it , thank you
Hmm...You could use remove a random defence modifier/add a new defence modifier. ES is the only Defence-tagged mod on helmets so you can try your luck that way by removing them and re-adding them until you get lucky and get higher tiers But...that might be expensive and it also might be super hard to get both the ES rolls high with that method. + level of minions isn't too rare. If I were you, and going for an ES minion helm, I'd buy a nice base and use Bound and Dense fossils to try and get good ES with the +level of minion gems mod. Maybe someone else will be able to give their opinion?
@@budgetaf3801 I think they do stack, yeah, but you can just use 1! They can be quite expensive and hard to roll and I'm finding the rewards pretty good with just the one
