Don't have a meltdown! Learn how to do the beginner poi move meltdowns in this step by step poi tutorial. I go over two different methods for learning this move. Be patient, especially if you're not used to having your hand in a waistwrap position. Comment below if you have any questions.
Shout out to "Poi to the World" for making me these awesome fabric poi.

First, I saw your 8 ring videos, so I bought some. I moved to buugeng. Now poi. I already had juggled. I think you do the coolest stuff. And by me attempting, and eventually perfecting at least to some degree. I have somehow managed to keep myself physically fit and active. My friends see me doing these things too. And strangers. Then I look around and others are joining in. We share tips. Meet up. Practice. Then others drive by. And stop. At a park, it just gets crazy sometimes. Strangers want to buy my stuff. And want me to teach them what I know. Some are just curious and watch. I should have a trunk full of things to sell on those days. Anyway, I want to publicly Thank You. After years of practicing unusual, and beautiful rhythmic patterns with different props. My body is more limber. I have less pain and more agility. And even at work, my free time activities have sparked an interest with others. You started something girl. This is a social activity that when done outdoors make people turn their cars around and stop to join in or ask questions. But mostly, the family and friends have watched me evolve into a more open, and socially active person. I talk to people when I normally did not. People are drawn towards my activities. Not because I am good at any of this. Because I am doing something they have never seen in person. And most that ask want to try it. With poi, I had one guy stop. Pull off his socks. And shove two baseballs into the socks and start swinging them. I watched him beat himself up trying to learn a few moves. I bet he ordered some that evening. And after his body heals, who knows. If nothing else, those baseballs will never smell the same. Thanks again for another great tutorial. Go flow.

Thank you for sharing your story here! I'm glad you found the world of flow and that it has created so many new connections and a new way of being for you. I can relate to so much of this, and it's pretty wild to think about what first got us started down this path and how different our life would be without it. I think regardless of what first inspired us, we all deserve credit for taking that first step and trying something new. I hope this brings you joy for many years to come!

Probably the best tutorial I've ever seen. (I only didn't like the song at last but everybody likes different music)

Thanks! I spin to a pretty wide variety of music so there's bound to be some that various people don't like lol. I do find that the fact that I enjoy spinning to some pop music does come in handy when I'm performing though.

Unusually hip reel is quite hard for me?? Hmm... My poi seems to spin in some other way. And I do notice the shoulder position and the way poi(s) are hold. 🤔 Hmm...

Does anyone know where the Poi originate from or how it became a thing?
@badassfirespinners
@badassfirespinners 3 года назад
If you mean the historical origins of poi, that's more than I can answer in one comment, but the short answer is that poi originated with the Maori in New Zealand. For a longer answer, I recommend checking out Drexfactor's videos on the history of flow arts.

Yeah, that is one of the toughest parts of learning new poi moves! Hopefully you have a soft pair of poi that are more forgiving.
