Every video I watch of you inspires my Poi play more and more. You are by far one of the most fluid Poi teachers I have found and by far the most effective teacher. I hope to be picking up your Beyond Basics series soon.
I watched this video back in 2009 when I still new and it's been WAAAAAAAAAAY longer than 2 years since I've done many two beat weaves. Thank you again for having posted these lessons, they're the gifts that keep on giving.
4 the longest time i was only doing a 2 beat weave and didnt know it. then my friend tells me im only doing 2 beat and showed me the 3.and ur right ever since i hardly do a 2 beat.although im glad i can go back and learn more w/ only 2 beat.thanks nick ur truly great!
Awesome! I was having trouble learning how to connect my weaves to my windmills and this gives me such a new perspective on it. Your videos are awesome and watching you do what you do is such an insperation
absolutely essential tutorial! Thanks Nick! I really did find it difficult at first to jump back into 2 beat variations. I need to remember to keep practicing the building blocks, it's always worth it, and this is one of the most important ones.
You're absolutely right, when you learn the 3 beat weave, you forget the 2 beat weave. And then, you stuggle like hell to do it again!! It used to be so easy, and now it seems impossible! ^^'
Wow I was just beating myself up on the beach last night trying to figure out the backwards 3 beat weave and the I came across this, this morning thank you thank you the whole point for me was so I could connect my weave with my windmill. I did notice that is was difficult to go back to a 2 beat about a week ago so now when i practice i make sure to practice both interchanged I'm so grateful you do these videos
I love how you still look impressed with yourself when you pull off a weave (Around 7:20) :) have been spinning for about 6 months now... I lost my 2 beat when I went onto 3, and completely lost it when I hit 5, Don't even think about it now I am on 7, Could never link them into a windmill without a nice face smash! THANKS MAN!!!!!!
love it! I've been spinning for about 2 months now and was trying to explain to a buddy how to do a fountain. this video explains it EXACTLY how I was trying to explain it, but much better. lol
I rate this tutorial as excellent. I'm moving on from learning 3 beat, and reverse 3 beat and transitions involving windmill.. This was a really great thing to add, thank you Meenik. // South Africa.
wow, thanx! I still do the 2 beat weaves alot because I like to spin my body around fast and 2 beats go faster than 5 beat weaves, but never noticed its part of the windmill thing.. thanx alot!!
Jaja, that was surpisingly extrange, because i love to do kind of a circle making 3beat weave on the left 2beat on the fet an other 3 beat wave on the right and the windmeell ( 2 beat on the heat) and i never realize that i was actualy doing that transitorial 2 beat weave, i think that i will start to practice that exercice that i never took that importance for me. Tanks Nick for your inspirational and helpfull videos. Salutations from Mexico. (sorry for my gramar xD).
@Chrno216 Sorry to monologue here, I do want to say that I only started using tutorials about three months ago, and I've learned almost twice as much in this short time than I did those first two years! I think it's safe to say that these tutorials have rekindled the love, creativity, and curiosity I felt when I first started to poi! So.... I just wanted to say... thank you.
your point of the hand on top "leading" the weaving process also is somehow the point of one of the ways i like to teach the 3bw. the concept of it would be the 3bw being a combination, a constant switching between both 2bweaves. what's nice ybout that way is people can reaaaally concentrate on one way, then the other, instead of every poispinners nursery rhyme "over, under, out". it's also a nice way of finding out what's your personal, favourite leading hand. so much about wayward babbling xD
really nice study...I also have stopped long ago doing 2 beat weaves until you showed me how to do that fountain (didnt really realize it was made of 2 beat weaves tho!)
Backwards 4 Beat Windmill.... Never even though of trying that one. I'm used to keeping my 2bt weave lookin good to help beginners learn, great tutorial.
That is awesome! I've been looking for a way into my windmills N my mentor suggested I learn the 3BEAT weave but I just can't get it yet. But I CAN do a 2beat weave! :D
@PoiDoctorSound hey thanks for letting me know ive been waiting a while for a responce for.. well 3 months so i just wanted to say thanks for letting me know.
Hi Nick, as for playing around with 2-beat-weaves: I tried to do a weave with one poi spinning forwards an one backwards. The result was a kind of 2-Beat-Weave. The pattern reminds me a bit of caps, if you look at it sidewards. Maybe that move has a name already (opposite weave? pseudo-caps for beginners?)? Sure I diden't "invent" it! I can't remember to have seen it in your vids - but still haven't watched all of them yet... Thanks a lot for all your awesome and really helpful tutorials!!!
You do the 2b so well that it looks like hard ;p, i am learning now these amazing variations, i hope i'll paste another com soon when i'll handle that good
Whenever I first started to poi, I decided I wanted to take the adventure of only learning by watching other people, no lessons. This was good and bad in many ways, I kept a beginners mind but having never had any martial arts experience I wasn't able to learn as much as fast as I wanted to. As a result, it wasn't until two years after I had discovered how to do the three beat weave that I ever even tried doing a two beat weave! .....That was hard to say the least.....
Just started yesterday :) I can do three beat but for some reason every time I try to do 2 beat both of my arms want to do the same timing and cross over instead of following each other, it's really frustrating!
It looks so easy when you do it. Looks really nice though! But I think I'll be going on with something easier.. :P I'm not really good yet. But I will be, someday! Muahaha! And now it's time to do some homework!
I can still do the 2 beat easily, but the second I try to move it into another position that isn't right in front of me I instinctively go into the 3 beat and it's harder to counter than I'd thought.
@loganator00 I know you weren't asking me, but i figured i could answer your question. I currently own two sets of flowlights, two luna, a sol, and a custom flowlight. As they are, flowlights are extremely impact resistant, however with the crystal cases, which in my opinion is a must, your flowlights get even more impact resistance. i however have seen a flowlight break even in a crystal case, but this was under extreme impact. so just be kind to them and they will return the favor.
hmm, this is very interesting. I had no idea about 2 beat or 3 beat, though now I see that I too did the 2 beat while learning 3 beat. Annoying thing is, I still can't do either of them backwards :S
@Chrno216 I don't know about his reasoning for going through that many that quick, i have had mine for months and the only one that broke was due to the fact that my friend was spinning it extremely fast and the exact center of the poi impacted the corner of a table, split the case of the light itself in half, however one trip to cvs and a purchase of tape later and it was back in commission, still is to this day.
this may sound like im lying but i started glowsticking a few weeks ago and the first thing i ever got down was a two beat weave and i didnt even know what it was called O_O
@P4CM4NDubstep Sorry to ask, but how did you do that!? I've been using crystal poi for five months now, and the worst that's happened to me is that one out of eight of the battery doors broke@.@
anyone know where i can get flow toys or good quality poi? i've been doing it for months with tennis balls on shoe laces xD i wanna try more professional looking stuff and possibly leds or glowsticks anyone please :D
spinballs is about as cheap as you can go on amazon for 20$. You get what you pay for but they work. I like the feel of my sock poi more then them, but its fun to use them at night. I use them for practice because sometimes it makes it easier to see where the poi are going for learning new tricks since they are lit up.
+Andreas Fechter I would personally say that investing in podpoi si definitely worth it. Unless you never crash, which everyone does, you'll break the cheaper LED poi pretty quick.
I learned it the first couples of times I tried poi too. it felt very close to a move I would do in school jumping rope. it's really the most basic of moves though.
