The majority of British Columbians knew this decision was not going to help those with addictions, it has made things worse for addicts,the public and Communities. Adolescence saw this as a message that it was okay to do drugs,if its not illegal then it must be all right. The whole thing has been a mess right from the beginning.

Anyone who lives within driving distance of Vancouver has known since the beginning that this was not a good solution. Open air drug scene on a provincial level was foolish.

I don't believe he's capitalizing on the chronic addiction in this country, any one taking a bus in any city suggests that this is an area of concern, Canada is not Amsterdam, for policies like this to work, a government would first need to have a content population who were treated with some level of dignity, not like barnyard animals, these policies do work in Amsterdam, Amsterdam prior to the fertilizer stuff had no crime, police officers are loved all high fiving people in the streets, and Amsterdam will happily educate any one, not sure of the cost but it wouldn't have been as inflated as it is here. I grew up in addiction, I've been an addict in the streets, if I were out there currently, I don't even know if I would have made it. Perhaps the government could take a minute our of their important lives to put them selves in the shoes of those less fortunate without trust funds, who grew up with nothing at all, in families who had nothing them selves to offer their kids, because they to grew up in poverty, no ones fault, but not uncommon . Would they know what to do, with nothing, I dought it, they dont know what to do with everything so why would nothing be any different it's like they never grew up at all, and it's sad they were givin the ability to have authority over others because they are hurting them not helping them, acting like the ones who are suffering are lying about suffering, because they aren't suffering, do they don't know what suffering is, until they do suffer they won't see it any other way. The privileged cannot govern effectively, they can however protect their positions of power though can't they?

Changes take longer that one or two weeks to implement. Decriminalization did not work in BC, we need another solution across all the provinces. Bring in the experts.

We are one of those families Ffected by BCs opioid crisis. My 28 year old nephew died of fentanyl poisoning in 2017. He had previously sought treatment. His addiction started at the age of 7 when he was prescribed Adderall for his ADHD. There are more stories like his. Treatment beds are nice but the addict has to want yo quit. Three weeks before my nephews death he had gone for treatment but 72 hours later at the height of withdrawl signed himself out. Harm reduction programs are what's needed until an addict is ready to quit. Without that, there will be more deaths. Poiliviere wants to talk about syringes in parks and playgrounds? Safe consumption sites are a start. Sadly due to the stigma of mental health and addictions, there's always going to be a contaminated hypodermic needle problem. In my province of Manitoba it was a Conservative govt that closed a mentsl health center and put them into the community. Now we have a rampant homelessness problem, an addiction crisis and a lack of mental health services because the govt "thought they could be better managed out in the community".

Freeland is right - it is absolutely abhorrent to try and score political points off the pain of the opioid crisis. Poilievre is totally unfit to be PM! Benjamin Perrin, a conservative law professor and former legal counsel to Stephen Harper - has studied the opioid crisis and is openly critical of Poilievre's drug policies. Poilievre supports the war on drugs which has been an abject failure and helped precipitate the opioid crisis. Criminalizing people with substance use disorder doesn't work. Evidence shows that someone with substance use disorder is 50X more likely to overdose and expire if they are sent to jail. Don't be fooled by Poilievre!
