I did. I did! Years ago! Decades ago! I can't remember where but I think it was that time at a Peter Piper Pizza that some kid had their birthday party at. If it was there, well, I didn't play it. I don't know why because, as Slope said, it stood out. I should've played it, but instead I plopped all my tokens into a Rampage: World Tour machine, which I really liked.

I actually got to play it a number of times in my childhood and into my early teens. I forget exactly when my local arcade got rid of it but it was sad. (Though I have to say that was probably a good 20 something years ago now)

I’m so glad that Point Blank has got some coverage from you, it’s such an underrated series and the first game is easily my favourite light gun game ever made! The music always gets stuck in my head after playing it too, particularly the victory theme that plays after every match!

Oh man, I absolutely LOVED Point Blank as a kid! Being born around the turn of the century, arcades were already dead short of a few urban places. I lived in a small country town and it was a rare treat to get to go to one. For some reason, Point Blank was super common in my neck of the British isles and I always had crazy fun playing it. That and HotD4. (Which I am totally gonna watch your series retrospective on now that I've noticed it) I used to drool over machines for sale on the internet and dreamed of saving up my pocket money. (Oh boy would I have got a B****cking had one actually showed up on my doorstep)

Absolutely loved this series! Luckily had all 4 of the first yes that includes ghoul panic! Still pissed off myself for getting rid of it all years ago! I remember my mum being scared that we could shoot so well like we were going to do the same outside!? Yet she didn’t bat an eyelid at me playing MK!?

I have a permanent scar on my right index finger from rubbing against the seam line under the trigger of GunCons. I wear the scar proudly. I reached a point where I could hundred percent every level on super hard mode. By super-hard mode, I mean while doing things like hanging upside down, jumping up and down, and having friends move me around in a rolling chair.

I find it interesting the Wii never saw a trilogy collection. It was a perfect place for it but never got it. A sad lost opportunity if you ask me.

Point blank has always been my favorite arcade light gun game.. I played it everytime I saw it at the arcade. As a kid I remember beating a police officer thinking it was the best thing ever. Good times.

I was just discussing with my mother to buy Point Blank 2 for my birthday (in 19 days). The timing is so crazy that I just jumped in excitement when this notification popped up in my feed. I played Point Blank and its (decent) ripoff Zero Point in arcades when I was young. It really caught my attention and I couldn't stop playing it. That along with the Police Academy Training and Time Crisis 4 (which I played so much at Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls that I was able to beat the game on just 2-3 continues) were my childhood back then. Side note: when trying to buy the guncon peripheral, I bought the 2nd version because I saw that it was compatible with PS1 games... even though I didn't realize it doesn't work with the PS1 console itself.

Glad to see I wasn’t alone on this. It’s truly baffling. The Wii was perfect for gun games even though it didn’t get as many ports as it should have. A trilogy collection would have been outstanding. In fact it could have been a bunch of namco gun games.

I loved Point Blank 2 on the ps1 me and my friends played it non-stop and we didn't even have the light guns, The dualshock worked surprisingly well compared to most other light gun shooters that tried the same.

Big ups to slopes for covering this. I loved Point blank, Lucky and wild and Tekken whenever I went to the arcade when i was a kid. next to a few others of my personal favs these three are part of my personal top ten! Ps I see that Fact hunt book casually on the shelf there.

I think that, somewhere along the way, players forgot that games are supposed to be fun. It's good to see a channel on RU-vid that doesn't nitpick and critique games to death like everybody else does. You talk about how fun games are and I like that a lot.

The pub near my university had Point Blank. It was a great game to just watch ppl play. Most of my money was spent on beer, so I didn't play it too much myself. The same pub had a CD jukebox (which was also a good way to spend a few coins). Now it has gone full gastro-pub and all that stuff has been taken out.

I remember actually playing this games as a child, my father got the first two and we had an insane and pretty fun time with them, specially when he brought the Guncon from a second hand store, this and the Time Crisis saga was our cup of tea, such awesome memories!!

This was a wonderful look back at a fantastic series from what may have been one of the most prolific publishing periods in Namco's storied history. I miss light gun games. Heck, I miss arcades. Gaming felt so much more diverse (with regards to genres) back then.

This was my favorite game for the ps2 I had a modded ps2 that was backwards compatible with Japanese ps2/psx games. This game was definitely one of the best Japanese purchase

Wooooah, Australian here, and that Australian advert is crazy! For anyone not in the know, the curly haired blonde guy looks to me like a deliberate reference to Martin Bryant, the infamous mass shooter from the Port Arthur Massacre, which would only have occurred a year prior. Tone deaf advertisement, especially given the non-violent intentions of the game.

Some games are just fun for everybody! I remember when Crazy Taxi came out I had bought a Dreamcast at Launch and a copy of CT when it came out. My non gaming father played some Crazy Taxi and said that is the greatest game ever made! He looked into seeing if he could buy some Sega Stock because he was sure that was about to be the hottest item in the country! Good thing for him Sega was not a publicly traded company!

Innovation's jolt gun has no reload but had recoil for the ps1. Also played as a justifier and guncon and even had a foot pedal...

Great vid! I dunno if this counts but you left off "Aim for Cash" which was a pretty obscure gambling light gun game. It's basically just point blank 3 but which some harder mini games added & with the added bonus of being able to """win""" money if you beat the last stage. I don't blame you for not including it as I think it was only released in certain parts of the world and is incredibly rare to find, I also seem to be the only person who's shown any interest in getting the game dumped & playable on an emulator haha

I remember this! I was lucky to have encountered a fully functioning machine here in the Philippines. Since was in a mall, I practically spent every opportunity to play the game. Sad to say, I haven't seen it in years. The owners must have probable sold/scrapped it, which is a sad but understandable decision. The CRT it had had long since faded and discoloured.

21:42 - But that collection for PS2 was Japan only. So unless you had a Swap Magic disk that eliminated Regional Lockout you're stuck with having to buy all 3 PS1 games separately.

Great episode, mate. Point Blank (and its sequels tbf) are up there among my fave arcade cabs ever. The first game is what made me get a G-Con for the PS in the day, was a bit underwhelmed it didn't have the arcade recoil but still a great home port. I'd love to own the cab.

I was lucky enough to play Lucky and Wild in a Burger King from start to finish, pretty good game and makes me nostalgic for the arcade scene, too bad it's pretty much dead around these parts but definitily do yourself a favor and play it on arcade if you have the chance, also if you really squeeze together 3 people can play the game depending on the cabinet

Can you look at the complete history of Sega's Phantasy Star series? Sega's Phantasy Star series is less known than SquareEnix's Final Fantasy series but both are a RPG series. The first Phantasy Star game was released in Japan (on December 20, 1987) for the Master System 2 days after the first Final Fantasy game was released in Japan for the Famicon.

When I was young my local pizza place had Point Blank, Konami Simpson's arcade, Marvel vs Capcom, Metal Slug (and also that awful Atari Pro driving ? Race driving ? Hard driving ? whatever it was nobody cared). Lots of fun times spent playing Point Blank. What !? There was recoil ? Obviously not on the cabinet near me.

Don't know how old you are but it was a very popular and fun cabinet at arcades. I actually had no idea a Playstation version existed but it's a fun shooting game.

I had 2x "real arcade" light guns with recoil and pedals for the PlayStation, watching this makes me regret selling them lol. But I have no crt TVs left to use them with anyway. Funnily enough, they outlasted my official guncon, that stopped working after a few years.

I’ve seen point blank sold on ps1 and ps2 when I was a kid, I didn’t get into them until they were on ds. You’re totally right about the ds games compared with the original trilogy. Still glad to have played them though.
