Patrick Swayze cracked four ribs while doing his surfing scenes. The film was shot in 77 Days. Once he was cast, Keanu Reeves flew out to Hawaii to learn how to surf. In Spain, the movie was released under the title "They Call Him Bodhi." On a $25 million dollar budget, it made $83 million dollars at the box office.

What Keanu says in Spanish to Patrick, "vaya con Dios" literally means "go with God" and it's a common way of saying "good bye" or " be well" to people you care for, like a relative or a friend.

YES! A CHILDHOOD FAVORITE! This was the second Keanu Reeves movie I watched on VHS, the first SPEED, then Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, then Bram Stoker's Dracula. Matthew Broderick and Charlie Sheen were considered for Johnny Utah, while Johnny Depp and Val Kilmer were considered for the role of Bodhi. James Cameron was going to direct the movie, but was too busy working on TERMINATOR 2 JUDGMENT DAY. Ridley Scott was also considered to direct. Kathryn Bigelow was picked after producers were impressed by her film Blue Steel.

Still stop and watch whenever I see this movie on TV. One of my all time favorite favorites. Lead singer of the Red hot chili peppers Anthony KLedis was one of the surfers fighting with Keanu and Patrick on the beach.

Swayze filmed the skydiving scenes on his own after they wrapped shooting because the studio wouldn't allow him to do it and he didn't want the film to have a stunt double. Tom Cruise took notice, their one-upmanship since The Outsiders was real.

Anthony Kiedis being in this movie is the icing on the cake

For me this is a favorite. It just so happened that when I was 15-16, they made huge hit movies out of my two favorite hobbies and it was awesome. Surfing with this movie and Basketball with White Men Can't Jump. Totally awesome. It sounds corny but surfing is/ can be absolutely euphoric. I have never been more at peace than while surfing. I would compare it to meditation. Even just floating on the board waiting for the next wave to ride and just feeling the rhythm of the ocean is just soothing.

Already in the comments, but you definitely need to watch "Chain Reaction" (my fav KR film), "Roadhouse" (with PS and Sam Elliot), and "Drop Zone" (with GB and Wesley Snipes). Kathryn Bigelow directed "Point Break", she has more great films like "The Hurt Locker" or "Strange Days". Woohoo, young Keanu! Damn, what a hottie. You know, the term "himbo" was coined specifically to describe him. (The name Johnny Utah was a play on Joe Montana, a very famous quarterback at the time.) By the by, a really good early Keanu film that nobody has reacted to yet, and which I think you guys would really like, is _River's Edge._

Awesome movie from my senior year in college. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but, this movie was remade from surfing to car racing and called it The Fast and the Furious with Paul Walker as Keanu's cop role and Vin Diesel as Swayze's role.. The ending was the same.

Now you know who Lori Petty is you absolutely HAVE to watch her masterpiece Tank Girl. It's a campy 90s movie based on the graphic novels and the quirky character fits so well she was born to play her. It's also got Naomi Watts, Ice T and Malcom McDowell. Margot Robbie's company LuckyChap Entertainment are about to produce a remake with Robbie in the titular tole, but you definitely should watch the original first.

The chase scene through the neighborhood is one of the best chase scenes I think I’ve ever seen on film.

Loved the post film analysis comparing the theme of the film to the story of Icarus...I had never made that connection before but it makes total sense. Also, when Gary Busey hears Johnny's name wrong and says Unitas, he was a real person. One of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play in the NFL. He played from '56-73, mostly for the Baltimore Colts.

All the singer of Red Hat Chilli Pepper plays a small role in this movie. He is the guy who shot his own leg. Point Break was also Tony Stark nickname to Thor :) becouse of Patrick Swayze blonde hair.

That finale was shot at Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Same exterior location for Goonies and some other movies.

Fire Choice! One of the best action movies ever! RIP Patrick Swayze! Point Break remake was beyond trash though.

The reason why The Ex Presidents went for the vault in that last bank heist was because they knew that the jig was up. Johnny Utah had all of their identities, so if they went through with “business as usual” (aka just emptying the cash drawers and skipping the vault) then they would be caught. So they needed a “retirement score”, so that they could disappear in some other country where the FBI had no jurisdiction (preferably somewhere with an excellent exchange rate for the US dollar, and where the local currency can be stretched a LONG way, with bonus points for if the surfing is awesome). I would suggest The Philippines. The Filipino peso is worth about $0.10 USD, but buys quite a bit (my ex girlfriend was from The Philippines, and when I told her how much I made per hour at my job, she told me that that was how much her mom made as a school teacher per day). Anyway, it wasn’t so much “greed” as it was necessity that made them change tactics last minute. And as for most of the gang being shot and killed in the last robbery? That’s just bad luck that there was an off duty police officer doing his banking that day. On a different day of the week, things probably would have gone down without a hitch.

I'll never forget watching the original Fast and the Furious in the theater for the first time. At the end of the movie, when the credits started, a friend of mine abruptly shouted "That was Point Break!" ... think about it. He's not wrong. Just replace surf boards with cars.

The scene with Keanu getting punched by the surfer who pulls a knife, Keanu was in the wrong. Waves either break left or right, if someone is setting up on a wave breaking left to your right and gets on he has right of way and vice versa. You cant just join the wave after while in his path, this is called dropping in. Big no no in surfing lol.
