Tailors Clapper
Used with steam from your iron, press the area with the clapper and hold for just a few seconds, it will leave a nice crisp seam.
Larger Clapper weights about 1.2 lbs and measures 11 ½” inches long, 3” wide tapered down to 2 1/2 inches and is 1 1/2” thick.
Medium Clapper weighs 12oz, & measure 9 1/2″ long, 2 1/2″ wide tapering down to 2″.
Smaller clapper weighs 6 oz, and measure 8″ long 2″ wide tapered down to 1 1/2″ and is 1 1/2″ thick.
Both sides have routed grooves to offer easy handling and is unfinished to absorb the steam better.
Ham Holder
As those who sew know, trying to iron those curves using a Tailor’s Ham can be tricky, especially when you are using steam. This handy Tailors Ham Holder, made of solid Oak and is a must for your sewing room. It is designed to hold either a small or large Tailor’s Ham and angle it to the desired position making ironing a breeze. It’s a real-time saver.
Tailors Board
The Tailors Board has variety of flat surfaces, angles and curved edges that aid in helping to shape the garments seams to fit the body
The board is made of Oak which helps hold the heat.
To use the board first you will want to evaluate the seam in question and fit the seam to the shape
Standing the board on one end you will see two curves a large curve and a smaller curve:
Large Curve
Used for Sleeve Caps, armhole and arm side seams
Smaller Curve
Used for pressing tighter curves such as collars and small children’s clothes
Placing the board on the flat side you will see a long-curved edge
Long Curved Edge
Used for princess seams
Large Flat Surface
Used for pressing any flat surface
Standing the board at the other end, on what looks like a handle (medium curve) you will have two sharp points used for collars in a variety of ways.
With the flat surface face down, you now have a Point Press and a Medium Curve
Point Press
Used for corner such as a pointed collar, square pocket or waistband. It allows you to iron all the way to the edge and allows you to press a nice long seam at the same time.
Medium Curve runs perpendicular to point press is used for pressing smaller, tighter curves such as a rounded collar.
Point Presser
A point presser is used for pressing hard-to-reach seams. Slip the seam, wrong side up, over the point and press open.
The bottom, clapper side is used to apply pressure to set permanent creases to form crisp edges, and flatten bulky seams.
To use, first apply steam to the area with your iron, then press with the clapper, leaning on it and applying as much pressure as possible. Hold this position until both the fabric and wood (which presses the steam into the area without adding heat) have cooled.

Hi would you recommend the pressing board over the tailors anvil/point presser if only ordering one or does the anvil have some advantages over the pressing board and you need both?

Hi thank you for your post, would you answer a question for me please. I recently purchased (online)the point presser and clapper however, the point presser isn't exactly a perfect point, should I return it?

An iron should have weight. The way in which this iron steams, with puffs instead of evenly on a larger surface, also determines the quality of the ironed product. The iron should do the job. not you. Hence the weight in the iron. ironing board. In the Netherlands we use an ironing board. globally 40 cm wide and 1,25cm 1 side has a point model. In fact, you can get everything ironed on here. Also small details. Do you want to steam woolen fabric in a ball model. get a pillow. Fold it in half. Grab some elastics and slide the whole thing onto your ironing board. Now fold a few tea towels or cotton sheets in half on the pillow and steam away. If you look after old costumes, also check how much shape it had and how few resources they were able to do it back then. Maybe these objects are handsome for quilting, but for clothes you Don’t need these objects.

I have one of your clappers. I also have a vintage tailor’s board. I watched the video just to see a demonstration of how to use it, but it turned out to be the only tool not demonstrated. Disappointing 😟
