Just noticed how in the new ones her leg muscles look all properly engaged and she almost looks taller. Alignment baby! When she had the old ones on, everything looked strained, leg muscles and her posture was micro 'hunched" over almost. That's what pain & improper alignment/engagement do. WOW! It's like you see the beauty, strength, alignment and pure relief instantly when she has the right pointes on!!! This is approximately the 16th time I've watched this btw LOL I notice/learn something new every darn time. You rock, Josephine!!! What would we do without you??? Love and light, Andrea, age 57 in 4 days, back to ballet after 40+ years and one if your biggest geekiest most happy appreciative Fans...

I love these fitting videos! I noticed on your Instagram that a lot of the people you fit have an issue with a tailors bunion or their pinky toe metatarsal sticking out at the side of the shoe. Could you do a pointe shoe fitting video for this to show how you combat this problem? Thanks,

KT KT what helps is toe spacers. Make sure to ask your fitter if they would be right for you.

Do you have any advise for curled toes? I don’t mean while on pointe, but in general. When relaxed my toes just naturally curl ( I think it’s either mallet toe or claw toe?) and they get even more curled on pointe. I’ve looked online for help but all I could find was about scrunching your toes. Any advise from what to look for in shoes or padding would be great! I love your videos, they’re the most helpful ones!

That is a question to ask a doctor rather than a shoe fitter
@ashlynnmcquire8292
@ashlynnmcquire8292 5 лет назад
That’s actually something that you were probably born with. I know when I was around 6 years old I had to have surgery on my toes because I had a really bad case of curled toes. I’m all good now though! You should definitely ask a doctor if it’s bugging you that much. It’s not something you can really fix without surgery unless it’s a really light case of curled toes.
@SeniCatt

I suffer from curled toes and I recently found out I had a tethered cord and that’s one of the symptoms of having curled toes. They discovered it with an MRI. Maybe ask your doctor?
@SP-kk5nj
@SP-kk5nj 4 года назад
I have the same issue, and have danced for 31 years (total- not all en pointe, but a lot of that has been). Drs won’t take you seriously, they’ll tell you that’s what to expect for “crushing your toes”, and that it’s “self inflicted damage”. Which may be true as I wasn’t born with this (but I’ve never said that to a dr). It’s def a question for a fitter as some dancers have a preference to have their toes more curled inside the shoe whilst others like them straight, and that’s those who have the option. If you don’t have the option because your toes are so curled then you just have to find the right fit in spite of your toes. Surgery is an option but you pay per toe (even in the uk as it’s not deemed necessary treatment), and that means missing classes and losing strength whilst your in recovery.

this is really spot on for a lot of dancers, especially younger ones who are not quite able to figure out what is bothering them in their shoe. Just one question: I guess getting a lower crown compromises the platform surface, meaning - and oooh I have encountered this - that a more tapered shoe with a lower profile means smaller or should I say, narrower platform (my size is narrow too so you can imagine). Is there a way to "correct" this besides darning around the platform? Cheers, keep it up and keep them coming!! XOX

You should fit someone with flat feet 🤗
@michellecamacho6718
@michellecamacho6718 4 года назад
People with flat feet are not suited for ballet, I'm no saying the are absolutely no flat feet dancers but they are discouraged pretty early if the problem is not fixed. And pointe shoes require a lot of strenght and flexibility in the arch wich is exacly what someone with flat feet lacks.
@ananyamoses6952
@ananyamoses6952 4 года назад
@@michellecamacho6718 Actually, you don't have to have flexible feet and good arches to be "suitable" for ballet. There is no "problem" with having flat feet. I have very flat feet and I'm at a pretty high level in my ballet school. Most people aren't blessed with beautiful arches and gorgeous feet, and that's perfectly fine. Anyone is suitable for ballet and anyone can dance. Also, you don't have to have good arches and flexible feet to go en pointe. I'm on pointe and don't have good arches. Another thing I wanted to clarify is that dancers with flat feet actually tend to be MUCH stronger than dancers with flexible, archy feet because they have to work harder to pointe their feet and get over their box. Flexible feet are weaker because they don't have to work as hard. Sorry that this is long. As long as you're strong enough and if you get approved from your teachers/instructors, you may go en pointe. Just clarifying a stereotype that I hope will be eliminated from the ballet world. ;D
@slplkaurora

I have flat feet and I get over the box just fine. I started out young so my feet flexibility is not that bad. Having flat feet is definitely not a good thing for dancers, but because of my flat feet I tend to be stronger than other kids in my studio.
@vizelleG
@vizelleG 4 года назад
Michelle Camacho well actually people with flat feet have stronger feet which is something people with higher arches don't have. most of the girls in my studio have flat feet, they do just fine and most of them actually do better than me (i have higher arches). they just use different brands of pointe shoes and they can do just fine

Hi Josephine. Any recommendations for pointe shoes for 'diamond shaped' feet? Wider metatarsal (bunions) but narrower heel and slightly tapered and compressible foot. It's been a struggle finding something that holds me up because if I go wide to fit the metatarsal, I sink down, and if I do tapered, it's too narrow in the metatarsal area. The RP Entrada Pro has been the most supportive but it's just too hard for me in the box/shank. Any alternatives? Thanks!
@Deinareia
@Deinareia 5 лет назад
I have very similar feet. So far I was not successful in finding the perfect shoe. I've also tried the Entrada, but for me, the box and the platform actually broke immediately to the point of being unusable. I also had to line them alongside my big toe to make the box narrower (I had the width 2) and way more tapered below my metatarsals. On the other hand, they were so far the only shoe with a box that actually covers my metatarsals properly and high enough crown. I make do with Grishko Maya II now, but that probably won't work for you as the box is way harder than the RP. I also have my little toe metatarsal outside the box with them.
@adelinasarkisyan1935
@adelinasarkisyan1935 5 лет назад
@@Deinareia Ah, that's interesting. I had to bend and break my Entrada Pro box by hand or else I couldn't work through them at all. I also have the Grishko Nova but they too are super hard.

This is late, but I have that exact same foot shape. It has been an absolute pain trying to find pointe shoes that fit because of it. I’m finally satisfied with Nikolay Triumphs in a medium shank now (you can get regular or the Super Triumph that is pre-arched so it won’t be too hard). This shoe doesn’t slide off my heel like my previous shoes, nor does it rub on any bunions. Hope this helps!

Can sewing your pointe shoes cause your feet to sink? I had my first fitting a couple weeks ago and I've seen the ribbons and elastic. They were comfortable when being fitted but now it feels like I'm sinking. My teacher hasn't shown me how to break them in yet so they are pretty stiff and hard still but when I put them on just to do plies and tendus I can feel my toes jamming now and I've not had a single lesson yet. I have long winged toe pads, a spacer and russian pointe shoes. Advice?

Which pointe shoes did you put Ashley in with this narrow profile? It doesn’t seem to be many available for this type of feet? A recommendation for this shoe would be helpful as it would improve dancing and also help fitters get an idea of where to direct them. I’m seeing fitters give big toe pads which later leads to ‘sinking’ once shoes are warmed up. Thank U!

Josephine, please help. I’m 50 years old. I just started back on pointe 6 months ago. My feet are extremely strong. My metatarsals are strong, my ankles are strong, But my bones are not soft and pliable like a teenager anymore. (When I was 16 I could dance on anything.) My feet are not only strong, but extremely flexible and arch-y. (I can point my toes and touch the floor with straight legs.) so one of the problems is that I’m breaking the shank in super fast, to the point that it’s not supporting my arch anymore. This feels scary because it feels like my foot is going to break in half the wrong direction. The other problem is when I get the shoe tight enough to keep me from sinking, it feels like my feet are wrapped in concrete. Is this just because I’m older- and more sensitive? When I increase the padding, the shoes are so tight they cut off my circulation. I even tried “True Fit Pointe” (the putty toe pads)- which honestly feel like HEAVEN! But they made my shoes so tight it cut off circulation. Are there only two choices for me? Dancing on concrete? Or having my circulation cut off? Seems like either way I’m gonna lose some toes! I worry that I’ll never be able to get on point again. I don’t wanna believe that! I should be able to do this! I CAN DO THIS!!!! Can anybody help me? Thank you, Paige 💗
@AyaaAcademia

I have a question, could sinking also be caused by not tying the ribbon properly/tight enough? because i've only noticed it happened when i wasnt tying my ribbons properly, which perhaps also be the cause of me twisting a bit in my shoes

@kyliee8586

I tend to do that too. I have extremely flexible feet that pushes me too much over the box. Either taping your foot (I think there’s some tutorial online somewhere) will hold it back a little so it won’t go too far. You could also get a hard shank on the shoe, which will give you the support you need still, but it will allow you not to go too far over.
