I haven’t seen Pointless much. Were they allowed to give multiple answers? Spain wouldn’t be my first answer, but definitely on the answer list.

I assume they usually do if it does happen, but decided to leave one in as a little joke/example etc. I know The Chase had "Pass" as an answer to one question. It's good as a one off, but not as good if it's more regular.

Considering there have been some pretty obvious answers I would expect 100 to know, but didn’t, I’m surprised there were any that existed

@@davidz2690 I don't think there's 100 point answers all the time, but it would be more common than you'd think. They likely just cut them out because it doesn't really suit the show. I know taskmaster for example, while not a quiz show etc, will cut out tasks that they thought would be good, but everyone did it the same way. That's fun to see once, but too many things like that and it gets boring. Just like 100 point answers every couple of episodes would be.

Yeah, that is very strange. I wonder maybe they originally set a rule where 100 point answers would just default to 99 but then changed it eventually. Or maybe there genuinely was 1 person who didn't know that one question you mention. It's difficult to believe, but not impossible.

100 people got “Fred” when asked to name a character from the flintstones. Same show, only 96 got Elizabeth when asked to name a British monarch from the 20th century.

It’s not confusing. All you’ve got to do is give the answer the fewest people gave.

As the clip says the goal is the get the answer the fewest people said. So 100 is bad.

Yes it's sometimes surprising what answers score really high or really low

Do you not understand the game? He has to give a correct answer, so he needs to be able to say what kind of food a listed item is. If he doesn't know it he won't be able to give a correct answer. He was playing it safe by getting a high score that's lower than the 100 he'd get for being wrong. And it backfired because of an unprecedented situation.

Because he didn’t know any of the other answers. His choice was: play it safe or get it certainly wrong
