Poison Springs Road is a 4-wheel drive trail that travels through Poison Springs Canyon, crosses the Dirty Devil River, and into the Glen Canyon NRA. The trail, after 45-miles, enters the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park, where it intersects with the Flint Trail. The Flint trail then climbs up the steep Flint Trail Switchbacks, and after another 22-miles arrives at the Hans Flat Ranger Station. From the Ranger Station there is still another 46-miles of dirt before rejoining Utah Highway 95. This completes a great 2-day adventure into the remote and beautiful desert of southern Utah.

this is part of an approach to Happy Canyon?

No, I have not been to Happy Canyon but the Happy Canyon campground is located about 1-mile south of the Flint Trail/Hans Flat Road junction. It can also be accessed from the Big Ridge Trail, which I think is an ATV trail, and I have never driven the Big Ridge Trail either. The Poison Springs/Hatch Canyon trail goes from highway 95, 17 miles south of Hanksville, to the Flint Trail and the Flint Trail Switchbacks which lead to Hans Flat road, a fun 60-mile plus drive.
