I have so many tier list ideas, and here's the first one, ranking every starter Pokemon design! I'm a Nintendo/Pokemon/Smash Bros artist and I also work in toys as the day job - I've designed for Disney and Marvel to name a few, and made a few brands from scratch as well, so I might have some extra insight on this high brow topic of Pokemon designs

@@ludwig7022 I know what you mean! The whole aspect that Decidueye is a ghost type with a hidden face makes sense for its design. Also, just the idea of making it a hooded bow user is just phenomenal.

@@Jay-kx5cbidk, I find them a bit bland. Bulbasaur and it’s line are fine. But the charmander and squirtle line are a bit generic. (Excluding blastoise). Like for example, venasaur, a giant frog with a massive flower on its back, pretty unique. And Blastoise being a tank turtle, that’s very unique. But I mean, charazard is literally just an orange dragon. And we have dragon types with a bunch of cool and creative designs. And then there’s charizard. In my personal opinion, it’s kind of a let down. It just ok for me. But hey, that’s my opinion, feel free to disagree.

@@danielnolt3518 I understand your point but when you examine their whole line and take into the account that they are the first pokemon you appreciate them more. Charizard may just be an orange dragon with a flaming tail but it looks cool, they kept it simple and people gravitated towards it. When you think about who they were pandering to (kids) then it makes sense while they'll make the giant frog, tortoise with cannons and orange fire dragon.

@@Jay-kx5cb I 100% understand you. The designs are pretty cool, and I do appreciate them for what they are. Maybe a better word I could have used was outdated 🤔. My feelings still hasn’t changed, but I do think I probably used incorrect wording. But don’t get me wrong, the design did the trick. When I was a kid, I did too, think they were rather cool.

I also don't think they need to have a complete pass because they were the first and kinda had to be simplified. If you updated the designs to be more in line with newer 'mon, they'd kinda fall flat. You can't fully remove bias from rankings. I will say that I think Oshawott should be higher because they took something real otters do and integrated it in such a way no one questioned it.

I don't Grottle is also awesome, whole line is awesome. I Would even say it is my second favourite grass starter line after chikorita line. Sorry bulbasaur, you are awesome but you are in the 3rd place., or maybe better share second with Turtwig line. And then treecko line takes 3rd spot. Others I don't care about

My comment is gonna get lost, but I think cultural significance is important for Bayleef. Ash's Bayleef was a huge hit with viewers. Edit: while Bayleef's personality is moot since it doesnt speak on design, Bayleef was satisfying to watch move around. She was often portrayed as "big dog doesnt know it's big" and was known to run into things, sit on people, etc, making her a clumsy dinosaur not quite used to its big body. I do think things like that are relevant to design. Ghastly is just a big ball of smoke, but an animation of it just fazing through walls and floating around is always cool. Same with spheal- it's a tiny ball, not super notable, but tons of people like to animate it as rolling around instead of puttering around slowly.

Same. I agree that grotle is horrible but torterra and, especially, turtwig are incredible. For me, they have the mountain/earthly feel to them that I love in addition to the tank like aura that I want in my starter since they will be a key piece in my team.

I agree, Primarina and it's pre-evolutions get too much hate. They aren't as badly designed as people say they are; I've heard people describe as Brionne "ugly", "awkward", and even "unfortunate", but it's not any of those things in my opinion.

Since one of my first Pokémon games was Black, I saw the back sprite of Serperior a lot. You can see the teeny arms folded behind it in that sprite.

Decidueye - deciduous, like trees that don't shed their leaves, and 'eye' idk why tbf but yeah So its pronounced like an s rather than a c de-sid-you-i Also underrated man I love the owl boy he's so cute! He's like a Robin Hood style owl, and the long floofy legs are very reminiscent of actual irl owls! As an owl lover I love the rowlet line lol

Think about it, part of Samurott’s name has Samurai in it and samurais wore thick helmets back in the zero period to protect them in wars. How can you possibly think that the helmet on Samurott should be removed knowing that about samurais in the past?

Watched this video a day late, but I enjoyed your takes. I think that greninja and infernape deserve S personally, and even though I don't love charizard, I think that it deserves the s placement. I do however think Rillaboom was done dirty. Regardless, keep up the great work, Moxie!

True, but I will give Nintendo credit for trying to be creative with Rillaboom. The only change that I would make is turn its hair into a Mohawk and add a bit more green to its design. That I can see fixing all its problems.

MAN, I honestly still think Charizard is boring. It's just an orange dragon! There's so much more interesting things you could've done with it! There are so many cool dragon pokemon but like... Charizard is just so boring to me. He's got nothing unique about him, honestly.
