Actually, the release dates aren't that far apart, at least in Japan. Colosseum was released there in November 2003, and FRLG in January 2004. It's likely that FRLG and Colosseum had very similar development schedules, so depending on when his model was made, FRLG were probably being finalised. Game Freak probably sent Genius Sonority art of him (and Leaf) to use for reference, alongside the RS versions of Brendan and May who obviously existed by this point (with RS being released in 2002!). I imagine having the compatibility to play with a game that hadn't even been released yet (even with only two months of time between them) would've been risky, as they'd constantly have to test both games with each other to see if they were working together or not. As for Emerald, that didn't release in Japan until September 2004, so the Emerald versions of Brendan and May most likely either didn't exist yet explaining why the "Emerald" party uses the RS design. The same thing would happen if you linked an Emerald cartridge with FRLG or RS, the latter of which would also render Red as RS Brendan. This is the reason why Kris has to use Gold's sprite during link battles in Pokémon Crystal, or why characters from newer Pokémon games will be rendered differently in older games in the same generation (e.g. Ethan/Lyra being rendered as Lucas/Dawn in DPPt).
Do you need to complete firered/leafgreen to battle with colosseum? Because whenever i try to battle leafgreen with colosseum it says “the connection has been lost with the game boy advanced system connected to controller socket 2” even though i saved in a pokemone centre. It even has the pokemon colosseum logo appear on the GBA for a second then it clips to the opening on leafgreen.
@@rickyjake8619 yeah.. I had a third party cable, and apparently they can't handle certain connections because they require too much data.... idk :/ I ended up buying a legit Nintendo cable and had no issue. got it on eBay for around $16.
