Also the PLA starters do actually have an underlying theme- they're feudal Japanese military. An archer, a samurai, and a shogun. Typhlosion's Japanese name (Bakphoon) is a play on "bakufu," which was a name for shogun officials. So there is merit in looking for what three starters already allude to France in some way.

3 stages Pokemon lines that evolve normally in gen 1😅: Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Butterfree, Beedrill, Pidgeot and Dragonite Kinda funny how most 3 stage lines do need stones, trades or other means in future generations

The problem with basing a region on China isn't history, though. The problem is their government's strict restrictions on depictions of China. Pokemon could get banned if they do it "wrong" and you can get it wrong really easily.

The fact that it’s such a debate in the community to add in gym scaling is the reason why game freak will never change. A lot of fans do not care about gameplay or challenge and it shows in the community. Gym scaling shouldn’t be a debate it should just already be a feature…the same thing goes for overworld catching mechanics

I personally don't want another USA game until gen 12 or 13, keep it in Europe or Asia, there is more history to play into, USA have 2 or 3 regions (the coliseum games), give me India or Germany as a region. I would also like new mega to be from middle stage evolutions, that way we can remove the "only final forms" get mega's, that way we can get new evolutions for stage 1 and 2 that where burdened with megas. Totally agree on lineer games, i think pokemon feels better as one but should have a open map once you do the game.

Since the novelty of a Pokemon Stadium style game is no longer what it used to be as we tread deeper into 3D open world games, however Imagine a release of Pokemon Battle Frontier by GameFreak where you can transfer your pokemon to from Home and have them compete at different facilities with different gimmicks, basically making use of the scrapped content because Emerald and Platinum weren't remade. Getting unique prizes that you can transfer to your other games.

Is it just me, or is everything they’re talking about is what everyone wanted just a few years ago? Open world? Overworld encounters? Seems crazy to me that it’s all being reversed now. I think there should be a mix of over and random encounters like SWSH. Let overworld encounters interact with each other like RDR2. Let me see a Pidegot swoop down and start attacking an Ekans or a Magikarp. Zangoose and Seviper fighting each other. I would love a Kanto remaster. Give it FRLG content, but update for new evolutions, typings, and battle mechanics. Add in the overworld Pokémon interactions and some random grass encounters and I think it’d be perfect. Sure it would only have a Pokédex of around 200, but I prefer a shorter Dex if it means gameplay mechanics, graphics, and overworld interactions are fleshed out.

I really enjoyed Gen 6 as well and its bittersweet that Kalos is being brought back in a Spinoff. Legends could expand the scope of gameplay past Legends Arceus. But I'm hoping it means a huge step up for how Game Freak designs 3D environments. NPCs, Overworld music, buildings, moutains, trees. I hope its all spectacular

I’d reeeally love the Netherlands to be the next inspiration for the region, if not then I want another Japanese region but I want Tokyo to be the main big city. I know there’s places like Vermilon already but I miss the overall aesthetics of the Japanese Pokemon regions. To have one more smaller Japanese region connected to Kanto and Johto would be teapot cool

Good podcast episode but I think you guys keep making a bit of a fallacy with the open world aspect. I agree that the towns can feel lifeless, but I don’t think the open world is why you can’t remember locations. My guess is that it’s purely because firstly, you haven’t replayed the games the way you would when you were younger, and also there are more things and places to remember because it’s open world. When thinking about other open world games I’ve played to death, like Skyrim, I have no issue remembering the areas and regions that I went to frequently. Towns and cities can still be iconic in an open world setting

Sorry but I disagree with the notion that open world doesn’t work on a Pokemon game. While nexomon is top down view, we could clearly explore other areas and the level for boss, tamers and monsters level up with you. This could have been done on a 3D space. Sadly weather it was a ridiculous time constraint, limited resource or heck them not being able to program that in a game (even though some developers have learned new software on the spot), Gamefreak just failed in implementing a properly function game with Gen 9. Legends ZA while welcomed is still something I’m extremely worried about… given how bad Gen 9 came out of the gate… I’m hoping I can be proven wrong… I really, really am hoping to be wrong…🤞🏽

Wow... saying Scarlet and Violet aren't linear when they are... is weird... just follow the routes like you would in a linear game. It only becomes open world when you go off the beaten track. You apparently ruined your own experience by exploring when you didn't want to. There were multiple roadblocks. Both actual ones like those put up by team star, terrain based ones like requiring swimming, climbing, or jumping, and level walls that tell you hey you aren't suppose to be there. This was a well crafted story for a Pokemon game and I'll be damn if I have people slander it because they got over excited that it was open world and started skipping around all over the place. And this coming from a person who fully explored the areas given before pushing the story forward with the obvious path the game wanted you to do it in. Paldea not having landmarks? What kind of joke is that? Given real genwunner vibes here.

SwSh and SV have been some of the laziest, mail-in effort games I've ever played. It's a very sad end product to be made by the largest media franchise on the planet. The problem is people running out to pre-order game after game after game when they've already made it clear that they had no intent to improve. Stop buying every box of crap they make and the games will be forced to be better.
