This woman deserves all the love she gets. Josh found the perfect partner to call his wife. Lots of love to them and their children both human and furry.
1 small thing about Giacomo. He followed the rules and was straight laced, true. But he was booted as President of the Student Council because he began to impose draconian rules on stupid things, and the power got to his head. When he was booted, students took their anger on him and bullied him. When the other Leaders(before they were leaders) saw this, they extended an olive branch and let him join up. He himself wrote the Team Star Code, and made it so No One, not even the leaders(current or future) could abuse it. And he was reticent about it too, considering what he did, which shows he now see what he did was wrong. But still he shouldnt have been bullied, none of the bosses or members should have
To be fair: There is a reason why Nemona is so obsessed with you. There are a few indications and you can find enough Videos about that here on RU-vid, but let my summerise it short: Most people aczually refuses to battle her. This was going so far that she always holds back in battles, so that others can have fun to and so that they accept her challange. She is obsessde with us, because she sees someone who can rival her full power, maby even overpower it.
@@KororaPenguin One Punch Man, or Saitama, which is his regular name. He got too powerful, and now there's no one strong enough to make him feel the thrill of battle anymore
And if claims about Penny's family are correct... Have an uncle who developed a severe idée fixe, nearly caused a disaster, and is currently in a mental hospital? Bullied!
Forgot about you guys' twins for a hot second. Hope they're healthy and happy! Also, fun fact about Larry. His signature move is Facade, or in Japanese: Karagenki. Which means to put on a brave face or fake smile, or in other words, customer service face.
I'm willing to believe given the stream that this update exists solely because Carmine pissed Ari (and Josh too) so much that she HAD to update it to give Carmine the lowest possible tier in the character list. Like, seriously. Girl was borderline speaking Angrish by the end solely because of Carmine.
I'm no fan of Carmine but I do think it a bit extreme that lots of people pin everything on her alone and none of it on Kieran, some going as far as stating without her there wouldn't even be a problem in the plot to begin with which is just highly untrue. Since the entire internet is essentially doing the roasting and calling out on Carmine, I pretty much turn the scope to Kieran and point out he isn't exactly innocent himself either. He does essentially apologize over his part which helps (especially since Carmine didn't) but it doesn't absolve him.
@@GameAW1 Well, hey, for the DLC Epilogue, according to some datamine, we now know that Pecharunt, the "Dokutaro" some theorize about, did not control Kieran. He does overcome his toxic masculinity and inferiority complex and returns to hus former self, plus he's one of the key characters in that story.
@@GameAW1 I think a lot of the dislike for her comes from the fact that the DLC is riddled with "tell instead of show" moments. We're told about other traits the two siblings possess, but nothing we're shown about them reflects it. Case in point: Kieran tells us that Carmine has a soft side and was looking desperately for another mask for us that we could wear to the festival. However, her actual interaction with us had her saying: "Oh well, I could only find two. Guess somebody won't be getting one" in an arrogant, mocking tone.
8:36 *raises hand* I did, right up until I beat the second Titan Pokémon. Then, my feelings changed to: "I will fight Arceus itself with a level 2 Magikarp if thats what it takes to make your pupper all better!" I also guarantee this is how Penny decided on what kind of Pokémon she wanted for her team: Teacher: "Now remember; when it comes to raising Pokémon, their EVs are an important part of their growth." Penny, writing notes: "Eevees...are...important."
9:25 I don’t blame you Ari, I did the same thing with my akita Sophie AND my parents beagle Max when I got to that part. Sophie gave me a look that said “Why are you crying momma? Who do I need to bite? I will bite whoever made my momma cry!” Max was blind (passed away in October), so he just took the hug happily.
I also adore the story that Fuecoco's evolution comes with~. Basic stage is basically a widdle derp baby, Stage 1 contains an egg, and the Final Stage has the egg hatch into a little fire bird that also doubles as a fire microphone~.
Quaquaval's biggest sin is to not exist in the Colosseum/XD universe to be alongside Miror B. Does Meowscarada's base type really matter? I mean, it has Protean as a hidden ability, which allows it to be whatever type you want it to be, and even with the nerf, it's still very good. Btw, Meowscarada has Triple Axel now, so its coverage has increased dramatically.
Meowscarda is best Grass Starter in Pokémon history. Change my mind. You cannot. Seriously, though. PROTEAN(nerfed or not), 110 PHYSICAL ATTACK, *FLOWER TRICK, **_AND THE FASTEST SPEED STAT FOR ALL STARTERS????_* Why do all of these qualities exist on a single Starter, when other similar sets aren't used AS EFFECTIVELY? Mus protecc forever.
You forgot Sada/Turo, whose role in the story is the tail end of a tragedy worthy of Shakespeare. C. S. Lewis described losing sight of the end in the means as "the subtlest of all snares."
The saddest thing to me is that they were so lost in their obsession...but then a brief moment of *clarity* is what led to their deaths. For once they were thinking of someone else, and it killed them.
Honestly I love how Penny and the other Star leaders tried to make a student union and stumbled their way into pseudo-feudalism. I really want to learn more about the shenanigans that led to that.
To me the Point of Penny and Team Star are meant to be a message about How teachers will fail their students and will fail to admit never helping or giving theme real help as this Happens with most Schools as the teacher will pick fave or will make the Student feel they will not be good at anything that can also damage theme even know when they feel hurt or betray showing Teachers will never admit their own faults at failing a student or admitting some responsibility on their part
@@comicbookreviewer4856 Not to mention that there are some methods of getting at victims that involve false pretenses--on matters where it is considered bigotry to even consider false pretenses as a possibility.
About this list: Larry - Not gonna lie, this was a tough gym battle, even with zombie Primeape whose supposed to be the speediest of all Fighting-types. Brassius - You actually had something going with Tulip. Iono, her tera pokemon is Mismagius. Levitate + electric type equals no Weaknesses unless you use Gravity. Grusha. An Altaria becoming the very type that does quad damage against it. Tulip? Your Florges loses it's immunity to dragons and becomes weak to specters, creepy crawlies and the abyss. What the heck is wrong with you?! Although now Sudowoodo gets to live out it's dream of being a grass type. Nemona - She's very quirky but adorable. Arven - he gives us so many gut punches we may as well have a hole in our stomachs like that guy at the beginning of Kung Pow Enter the Fist. Team Star - Even though Ortega is the most insufferable his segment does offer the most lore, with Harrington being the director before Clavell took over the position. Also, you gotta love how Eri pointed out to Atticus that math is important in fashion since she does point out that he bought too much material for their Team Star outfits. Quaxly - Not gonna lie, a starter that DOESN'T have Hydro Pump anywhere was a bit of a turnoff for me, but Aqua Step does look cool. Sprigatito - I'm kinda fond of the Masked Magician look. Also, Nights reference. Fuecoco - I think we may have found the perfect pokemon partner for Ichigo Kurosaki, and a majority of the Espada. Koraidon/Miraidon - Koraidon was why I chose to complete Scarlet first. And you can't help but feel future paradox pokemon were pokemon that got roboticized. As Miraidon looks like a Light Cycle from Tron. Can't wait to see your opinions on Ogrepon and Terapagos.
Even after the main story of the Indigo Disk DLC, Ortega is still a "pompous narcissist" when you help him and the rest of Team Star back at the Academy in Paldea (as a way to tie up THAT loose end). There is ONE additional DLC in the works, but it's mainly an epiloge to the Teal Mask DLC.
Oh yeah😁 Team Star epilogue in DLC were nice additional . I liked we could see everyone without their makeup and costume(Eri and Mela are most shocking ones) and learn more about their quirks : Ortega while smart , doesn't know much about artsy stuff , Atticus seem good at math if he used in his own way , and Mela doesn't know her dream yet until we , as a player , helped her acknowledges her artist side and maybe try it for future career . Even Penny get nice dialogue in the end with her helped her friend .
Ok little tid bit regarding Quaquaval's design. While I'm pretty sure like,70% of its design is in reference to Carnival as was mentioned and is clearly visible from its tail, i'm personally convinced its also got a little bit of Latin dancing in there as well, namely its chest which bares a VERY close simularity to that of traditional mens Latin outfits, with the tight shirt and flaired pants look. And as someone who enjoys Ballroom and Latin? yeah i dig that.
I thought a lot of the Gym leaders this gen were a bit... odd? Like most of them seem to care *so* much about their business that the Gym leader job is almost an inconvenience to them. That's why Iono was my favorite; she incorporated the Gym Challenge and battle _into_ her passion!
Fair enough Also people also pointed out(and even game itself) how gym leaders on Paldea region doesn't like Top champion , Geeta herself . I would imagine like real-life , gym leaders doesn't hate their gym work , but they don't like the boss herself and her work environment she given to them.
And if she is, in fact, Rose's niece, then I can guess how she was bullied: With mean-spirited cracks about the Day of Darkness and about Rose being in a mental hospital.
Honestly I was worried you'll knock Koraidon too low on the tiers because of its typing and how it's not as much of a bike, but I'm glad you have a soft spot for both.
Honestly, it not being much of a bike would have given it more points for me. Although, and this might just be because I haven’t come close to finishing any of the games routes, I just am not the biggest fan of those two as “Legendary” pokemon, merely from a lore and “what legendary pokemon should really be considered legendary” stand point. But I do like they were so integrated in the story.
"Give me a quadrupedal kitty that people DON'T wanna bang!" As someone who is, for lack of a better term, "well-versed" in certain corners of the internet; i find it so adorable how so many people think that being on all fours will somehow magically pump the breaks on the internet's libido need i remind everyone that when the starter trio for Gen 9 was announced; Sprigatito, a QUADRUPED, was on a certain green site within like an hour, MAYBE TWO after the video went live? so let's stop pretending like being on all fours is going to stop ANYONE from being down bad, because the internet has proven its depravity time and time again
As a fellow Skeledirge fan, loving the S-Rank. Mine was basically built to be a total offense machine. Shadow Ball, Hyper Voice, Flamethrower and Torch Song. I even gave it Throat Spray just to supercharge the first Special Attack boost from Torch Song. That aside, I'd love to see a video detailing teams you've finished the game with. Could be a fun retrospective.
I agree with a lot of your placements. I have the starters in the same order as you, with the Skeledirge line being not only my second favorite starter (behind Primarina), but also my second favorite gen 9 Pokémon (behind Great Tusk). Also I named mine KalienteRool, with obvious inspiration. For the friends, Nemona is a decent rival even though she’s a bit obsessive, I also cried once Mabosstiff got better (gave me major Homeward Bound vibes), and for Penny, I admittedly have a bit of a crush on her. As for the box legendaries, I will admit that Miraidon is better suited for battle, especially since it gets an additional boost to stab moves with electric terrain, but Koraidon gets ALL the design points. Overall, this was a great update video, Ari. I wish you the best for your family, and happy holidays.
Honestly, the Team Star "admins" seem like just the type of friends I would have. And I'm okay with that. Quaquaval is actually my fave starter. Brazilian Carnival dancer ftw. Meowscarada and Skeledirge are neck to neck second place.
Larry's alright. I prefer Iono. I also never really found Fuecoco that cute, similar to how I feel about Rowlet. I think Sprigatito is a lot cuter, and while Skeledirge is kinda cool, it's not among my faves like Meowscarada is. Masked magician cat is just cooler to me. I have to say, Koraidon and Miraidon are a very close second behind Reshiram and Zekrom as my favorite Mascot Legends. Solgaleo and Lunala being third.
I completely agree with your thoughts on Team Star. They really hit me personally since I was a victim of bullying in school, mainly because I have Autism. If I was born in the Paldea region, I would have probably been a member of Team Star.
Yeah😔 Like Ari mention , Team Star show no matter who you are , you always being bullied just because and when you stand up for yourself , you get punished .
There is another way to look at how the Star kids handled things. Their fighting back was akin to a kid bringing a gun to school to get back at the bullies. In their case the Starmobiles. And before you say I'm excusing the bullies I'm not. But going down to their level is just as bad. And could get others hurt Also, when you noted Fuecoco as the first fire in S, you didn't notice that Sprigatitto is the first grass in A for starters.
So Ari basically wanted Sprigatito to evolve into a Green Nargacuga. Not gonna lie that would've been amazing. Heck speaking of that, Chien Pao is Pokemon's version of Barioth.
Jerk rivals should elicit a response of "Screw you; see you in the next town". With her narcissistic and abusive behavior, Carmine elicits something closer to a desire to give her to Sada's Bane as a chew toy.
I will say this about Larry: For the longest time, I had Norman as the best Normal Type Master whenever I consider my "Pokémon - Best and Worst by Type" list over the generations. (Let me know if you want/have time to do something similar, Ari. I think you may have fun with the idea.) But then...THIS magnificent mother f(YAY)er appears and changes my mind!
Fun fact I didn't know until yesterday: penny is chairman roses niece... Which means that one of my favorite characters in recent generations of Pokemon... Is related to one of my most hated characters in a fiction..... H O W
So giving my two cents about this as well. Gyms: yeah I get it. Larry makes perfect sense. Even if I love Iono more. But you're right about one thing. He literally is "A Mood". And agreed on the worst ones. Tulip and Brassius were so boring. Rivals: Personaly? I love Nemona. She has become one of my favs. I love her passion, and desire just to have a good fight for once. and if you see everything about it? So many people avoided her simply because she was a Champ and the Student Council President. She barely was able to make any real friends because of it and her finally having an equal made her so happy. But her placement does make sense even to me. Now as for Arven? I got nothing else to say. you hit the nail on the head. Villain Teams: Yeah, Team Star were the most relatable "villains/enemies" in Pokemon. We all can agree that we've been on that receiving end in some way. And the fact you help them out and help change them alongside giving them their due justice to the school? Who wouldn't love these delinquents? Plus Penny is also a mood too. Starters: Quaxly line... I honestly put it as D or F Tier. I didn't like anything about it at all. Yeah I get the motifs and such, but it still felt so boring and bland to me. I just don't like its line at all. Spriggatito line. I love this weed cat, it's so useful and none of its line misses. A-Tier fits well. and next, my chosen starter. Fuecoco. I adore this "head empty" fire croc. While I don't like its next stage? its final stage evolution i love. Such a cool pokemon. and props to putting him at S-Tier. Legendaries: A-Tier for them fits well. They're both really cool, unique pokemon and the fact that you not only get them at the start, but help train them up from rock bottom, is a neat way to add them into the story. Plus who doesn't love these sandwich puppers? Eager to hear your opinions on the DLC and such. Be well Ari and Josh!
Nemona should be using the Wattrel line like she did in Paldean Winds. Also, she doesnt fight us w a Tauros despite being seen using one in the opening cutscenes.
Yeah , but at same time , we could assume Nemona does have those two Pokémon in her other team set consider she using new ones when Player become her new friend/rival
Something to consider: Koraidon and Miraidon aren’t traditional legendaries. They don’t actually have “Legendary Lore”, they’re Ancient and Future Cyclizars from alternate timelines. They’re more Paradox than Legendary. That in mind, consider the Treasures of Ruin; 4 Legendaries sealed away throughout Paldea. Since Koraidon and Miraidon are functionally more Paradox Pokemon, and not really native to Paldea; that marks the first time that all the Legendaries of a Pokemon Region are evil monsters. Dark beings made of Hatred, Fear, Grudges and Envy; who do nothing but seek to wreak havoc on everything around them. And I do mean, of a Region; Ogrepon, The Loyal Three and Pecharunt are all based in the Kitakami Region, and Terapogos also isn’t from Paldea; just like the Paradox Legends. Which means the only TRULY Paldean Legendaries, are The Evil Treasures of Ruin. And, I actually like that they aren’t integrated in the stories. They’re locked away and pray forgotten to time. You only learn about them by purposely taking a history class. Which, really gives Mewtwo vibes: a Pokemon in Gen 1 who was mostly known about through the records of you find and descending into the cavern to find it on your own. That’s so cool!
Now that I think about it, I think that before we had fwecocos last evolution, that gen 5 was the last time we had a more animalistic final evolution starter... with serpiriour.
I wish they had gone more into the Puss in Boots/Zorro design for Meowscarda. I know why they went with magician, but they could have let it be able to learn Solar and leaf blade moves, and maybe power whip. Floragato actually has a whip and its supposed to be for Seed Bomb? Why?
When i was fighting to team star's first couple of fights i was like "take that evil people" but the most battles i kept thinking "am i the bad guy" because all of them are just Victims of bullying and i absolutely HATE !!!! Bullying
When I first saw Brassius I thought he was the stereotypical disciplinarian because of the whip. I straight-up thought of Kalego from Welcome to Demon School Iruma-Kun. Would’ve been a better read than what we actually got.
Maybe its just me projecting, but Nemona reminds me of my own obsessions due to my autism. There's some stuff I'm obsessive about that i realize i can be too much for some people.
I don't know how you can find my duckboy underwhelming when it comes to stats and move pool. Tera flying, brave bird, and this baby spends my fights killing ogerpons, okidogis and meowscaradas, while obliterating barriers with brick break and turning into speedy gonzalez with his signature move
I have to stick to my guts and declare this Hau is a better Nenoma rival than Nemona. One of them was flexible (and even mature) enough to notice when wacky shenanigans were acceptable or not. Either cause a serious moment on the story was taking place, a character was allowing themselves to be vulnerable, etc And the other one was Nemona.
I agree with these placements You definitely have good reasoning as well. Especially with my Good Fire Croco Day of the Dead Rocker Let's go !! By the way, in a way not only are we Arven's friend in a form we were like a Therapist for him
In regards to the starters, the ONLY reason I took Sprigatito over Fuecoco is because I knew I was GOING to put a Ceruledge on my team, who is also a Fire/Ghost type. This is an issue because I hold myself to a personal code in my first playthroughs of any pokemon game: the starter STAYS in the party no matter what, and I try my best not to allow any two pokemon in my team have the same type (primary OR secondary). Sometimes this CAN make team building a little tricky. And it forces me to look at who my starter is going to be because I WONT be tagging them out for something else of the same type that I want.
Josh: FOCUS!!! And I agree, I thought I would dislike Arvin at first, but he was definitely one of the better rivals at the end. And even though I don't work for you, I will accept responsibility for the puns if your writer gets to keep their job :)
If we don't get one before Gen 10, I'd love to hear the Opinions on Carmine & Kieran as Rivals. I put Carmine at C personally, while Kieran is an S Tier Rival to me.
I agree with most points in the video. Kinda disagree with the quadruple starter thing (really wouldn't solve the issue anyways) but this is my first gen after all.
I did the therapist gymleader thing once on my friends private pixel on server, however I did an ice type cus while exploring the world I kept fixing ice types trying to off themselves (in pixelmon if a Mon is too small they start clipping into walls & suffocating, also saved them from lava, high cliffs ect.) The entire gym was an office building, 1st floor as a lobby, 2nd as a waiting room, 3rd as an office where I would give therapy sessions & a battle field on the rood complete with high railings to prevent the obvious
well, carmanie did improve in the indigo disk, but let's wait for the epilogue, also said epilogue revels that Peny is Peony's daughter and peonia's sister
Funny fact about skeledirge. When it wakes up out in the field it just makes a noise that sounds like it says Wheremst? Then it turns into the gatling canon of an a-10 warthog
14:59 ...Wow, I didn't think hearing Abridged Alucard again would actually put this kind of smile on my face. I thought he'd just be a one-note edgy phase of my life. And a Jo-Jo reference no less.
Ari for Christmas? You shouldn't have! I agree with pretty much everything here. Though I do like Nemona a lot more than most seem to. She's basically what would happen to the main character of a Pokemon game after it ended: at the top with nowhere to go and nobody to challenge her. She sees the player's potential and realizes she can have a genuine challenge again and is so psyched for it. And she's basically the first rival to act like losing doesn't bother them and I actually buy it. Every other rival either acts like their losses didn't happen or seem bitter about losing even if they don't tale it out on the player. Arven is still better though.
I want a good four legged cat pokemon that isn’t legendary and has an evolution line as well. I am a huge cat fan so when I saw we were getting cat starters in Alola and Paldea I thought that they would end up being my favorite starters especially since I love dark type pokemon. Yet, with Paldea, even though I started my first play through with spriggitito, I ended up further with my ghost fire gator, which is another type I love. Granted I really haven’t gotten far in the games. Also, yes I hated most hms but I kind of miss surf as well. However, it kind of annoys me that when they took hms away they also took away the good and super rods. I know Alola still had a fishing rod, but you were limited to certain spots. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like they made it harder to get water types now.
Still love the fan theory that Larry has been Isekaied into Pokemon...and is still a salary man at the end of the day, so he pays pokemon taxes like the rest of us, and thus, just still lives like that in this colorful fantasy world, since he sees no reason to do anything else...I mean, it wouldn't be the first canon pokemon isekai.
quick question Ari, what are your thoughts on the Paradox Pokemon? i know not everyone is gonna like them, but i am genuinely curious about your thoughts and that of your husband Josh.
One thing I don’t like about Tulip is that she is a Psychic user. Reason? Because everything about her minus the gym trail & her Pokémon screams fairy type user to me!! But because the rich kid of team star is using fairy types, they needed someone with Psychic types. I mean look at her, she was clearly meant to be a fairy user base on her outfit & sees things needing a sparkle of make up! To me, she is the worst gym leader cause nothing about her other than her Pokémon says psychic, but instead says Fairy!
Oh funny thing about the Quaxly line. It turns out that if someone were to roll up to Geeta’s Elite Four with Nemona’s seventh gym team, the only Starter with any chance of making it to the end is Quaquaval. Period. Hassel is an absolute menace and his Baxcalibur can outspeed and casually OHKO everything with Glaive Rush, so Quaquaval with a Speed amp from Aqua Step is the only thing that can stop the sweep because he’s rocking Air Slash… which needs to hit and flinch nonstop till the PP runs out before crashing with another Aqua Step… just to push Baxcalibur’a HP into the red. Then Lycanroc with Accelerock and Pawmot with Quick Attack can come in to clean up. The other two Starters don’t have the speed, endurance, firepower, or shenanigans to cope with the severe level mismatch.
