You also made an oopsie with Memento. It's not Momento -- that isn't not a word. Also, Spikes on Luxray wouldn't see use, honestly. Moonlight/Morning Sun makes sense, but not Spikes.
@@pokeaimMD it got access to Agility in Sword and Shield fixing its speed problem...With Guts and Flame Orb, if it can survive 1 turn and get off a single Agility it can do ALOT of damage, seriously cracking anything that doesn't resist electric....Ice Fang was the go to for dealing with ground types but it lost superpower so it doesn't necessarily have anything for steel types anymore....*Insert Tera Fighting Luxray with Crunch for psychic types instead of Ice fang*
Nice vid as always aim but I just wanted to say that I think to increase luxray’s speed instead of just giving it 80 you can swap is special attack and speed
Luxray suffers from being a physical Electric type, an archetype of Pokémon that suffer from not having enough generic physical attack options outside of Thunder Punch and Wild Charge. And whenever a new physical Electric move is introduced, it's always exclusive to 1 Pokémon.
I do agree Luxray is one of my favourite fully evolved Pokémon from gen 4. It should have its own signature physical electric type move and should have been half dark with slightly more bulk or speed because it should be sooo much better than it is. Every gen I struggle to make it viable 😩
I'd like to see a priority electric physical move, similar to ice shard and bullet punch. It makes more sense for electric attacks to be quicker than the average other attacks, yet they never released an electric priority move ...
The special attack and speed could have been swapped. It has good defenses so it could tank at least 1 neutral hit but it should be fast as it’s meant to be an attacker.
That, and when they do make new moves they get little distribution. Zing Zap would certainly be appreciated by more Electric types, and Fire Lash is on so few Pokémon I don't think anyone remembers it exists.
@@BenjaminRodriguezReyes fire got sub game exclusive raging fire, sizzle slide. Main game pyro ball, heat crash, flare blitz, flame wheel, flame charge, fire punch, fire lash, fire fang, blazing torque, blaze kick and bitter blade. Electric nuzzle, spark, thunder punch, thunder fang, void tackle, wild charge, zing zap They need so much more.
Yeah...the Wild Charge is just the perfect example of "seriously?" it just makes you realize that Luxray's most *consistent* Physical STABs are frickin Spark or Thunder Fang (and those are both 65 BP moves)!
It's why I think it'd be cool if luxray got strong jaw instead of guts while also becoming a dark type. 120 bp stab crunch and ~100 bp stab thunder fang with decent attack stat can work quite well, and you dont need to give yourself a status effect, allowing you to use an actual item.
@Arjun1opleaze Well Strong Jaw wasn't in Generation 5 when Hidden Abilities were introduced, and GF/Pokemon Company doesn't usually retroactively change an ability of a pokemon for a brand new one introduced.
@HannibalKantter Fair enough, but Gallade was definitely an understandable pokemon to change the ability of it to the new ability Sharpness. As its moveset is mostly blade moves anyways (Psycho Cut, Night Slash, Slash, Leaf Blade, and Sacred Sword to name most of em)
I assume Aerodactyl's speed is what has kept Gamefreak on the fence about it receiving those moves. At this point, I wish they'd just give it a different ability...
Honestly if they dont want it to be too strong, just give it brave bird, as it has usable rock type stab already. Its flying type stab is where it is underwhelming, either needing 2 turns or doing 60 BP with Aerial Ace or Wing Attack. It really needs a buff, and I would love to see it happen considering it has always been one of my favorites
@@StoicForce That thing doesn't have a good physical attack stat. Base 105 is quite lackluster, and it wouldn't hurt to give it head smash. However I don't see any reason that it should learn brave bird. Besides, head smash has way less accuracy than BB, so it balances out.
Redesigning Luxray as if its a gen 10 pokemon: •+10 speed •Give it Volt Tackle •New ability called Tachyon Heart - On switch in, summons Electric Terrain. During under Electric Terrain, Speed is multiplied by 1.5.
The change I had in mind was just swapping its SPA with SPE, Dark Typing, and making wild charge 120 BP, it still wouldn’t be OU but would be usable in lower tiers.
i was waiting for him to do something with the SpAtk stat. there’s no reason it should be higher than every other stat lol but everything else was nice
this is exactly it. Luxray is cursed with too much SpA. Luxray has a ridiculously high BST for what it is. 523 bst is higher than machamp/nidos/gengar, hell, most non pseudo OU staples.
I think wild charge having base 90bp is fine. Just remove that 25% recoil and Luxray can now be consistent offensively. Extremespeed would also be useful and realistic since Arcanine and Entei oso get it so i dun think it's absurd
I really love this take on Luxray! Most people just end up making it a worse Electivire. I'm not entirely sold on Spikes thematically, but maybe an Electric-type Spikes that inflicts Paralysis as an Egg Move from Jolteon? Could be a bit overpowered, however
i mean theres a few ways to counteract it. Electric and ground type switch ins, flying pokemon, boots, rapid spinners etc. Doesn't seem too overpowered
I see people saying that Luxray should be Electric/Dark but I don't see any reason, it's not very evil and all I've found out about it in its Dex entries is that it can see through walls. Electric/Normal is preferable for STAB Facade.
I agree. Dark type is the evil type in Japanese. Maybe aside from Umbreon (who was originally meant to be Poison in the Spaceworld Demo and it sprays poisonous sweat), and Darkrai who just causes bad dreams, the rest have justified reasons for being Dark types.
To be fair, whilst the majority of Dark type Pokémon are reasonably "evil" its more about being brutal by nature or using underhanded tactics, and it could be argued that having built-in wall hax is pretty unfair. More importantly though, there are outliers that don't necessarily do anything that should make them "evil", and while they are the minority its still fair to propose Dark typing for something that isn't outright devious or looking to make everything it comes across past tense. Absol for one is stated to be very calm and even attempts to warn people of coming disasters. It doesn't even like mega evolving because it would rather not fight at all. Pangoro is not overly violent, it just likes to scrap, arguably meaning it could have stayed pure Fighting. It's a Goku panda. Hell, Mabosstiff is literally just a mastiff. Could've been Normal type and no one would be able to say anything. It gets a Dark typing because it uses intimidation, but intimidation isn't exclusively a Dark type thing.
@Lithosagym Fan I don’t believe the evil argument works since there’s plenty of Pokémon that aren’t evil yet still get nasty plot like Raichu, Mew, Celebi, Lucario, etc.
I'm very glad someone else is pointing this out, I really don't understand why the idea of electric/dark luxray is so popular. And yes, @Lithosagym Fan , tail glow would be perfect!
i think this is a little too much especially base stat wise, for a typically early route mon it would jump to 558 bst which is kinda nuts being stronger than even haxorus bst wise, i would say cut into its special attack by 20 and bump up speed by 10, atk by 4, and then 3 into each defense and then possibly add on a +10 hp. i advocate for volt tackle to be distributed more and dont think it necessarily needs knock off, crunch and sucker punch should be fine enough.
I think the numbers are all fine tbh but we should have gone the stoutland route and simply took it all from special attack. Lowering it while buffing the mon. Will keep this in mind next time ty
Yea, I def feel Luxray deserves some love, but this all feels a bit much. These BST changes are a bit more fair i'd say. Phys Electric types def need something, either VT getting better distribution or uping both it and Wild Charge to something more respectable. If you make it a dark type tho, give the dark moves, lean into it. Spikes, Moonlight, AND Close Combat feel like a lot tho
Since it leans more on the physical side, couldn't you also take 15 away from SpA for use elsewhere. 80 SpA is still usable but it would feed more into its bulk which it needs more.
Yea I would do everything that was already said but instead of its bst being increased by 35 it would only be 20 by removing some of the special attack.
Luxray needs a speed buff and a slight boost in defenses. It could benefit from more moves in its arsenal as well. For a 3rd Evo it’s pretty bad unfortunately.
Rather than dark type, I once saw a suggestion of Fairy, lux is latin for light and with electric and fairy typing it can become a cool lighting theme for it plus a STAB guts boosted Play rough would hurt
Joey. Agency called in. They asking why you think this is the greatest tragedy and not the fact Flygon doesnt have a mega. Investors are waiting to hear what you gotta say.
Honestly if Luxray had different typing I think it'd be viable. With EQ running rampant in OU/UU right now electric is just too weak with a bad moveset. Shame because the design is so cool and it's one of my favorites too
Some people suggest Electric/Dark even though it's not that evil, I instead agree with the suggestion of Electric/Normal (favourite combination) because "STAB Facade always helps".
@@EnriqueLaberintico there are plenty of dark types that aren't evil but instead have a dark or threatening Aura about theme which I think fit Luxray well, especially with it's Pokedex having a light in the darkness theme to it
@@EnriqueLaberintico My apologies, I Miss remembered it's pokedex entries it's being able to see through all this being able to see through darkness. However, I still think my previous point still stands about not having to be evil.
I loved the entire Luxray revamp. He truly deserves it. The thing is, giving it the Electric/Dark Typing and the Strong Jaws ability would be more than enough to make him viable. Thunder Fang is 97 BP with Stab Crunch is 120 BP with Stab Ice/Fire Fang are 97 BP with amazing coverage. Then you could Terastallize into a Psychic type Pokémon and use Psychic Fangs on opposing Fighting types. Strong Jaws gives Psychic Fangs 127 base power. We need THAT Luxray. Or just give Luxray it’s own signature move, like Lightning Ride. The Pokémon closes the distance in a flash and strike’s the target with the power of electricity. 60 BP, 90% Accuracy, +1 Priority, and guaranteed crit.
I love these kinds of videos!! Especially coming from you Joey. Your insights into the competitive scene and your knowledge of what people what from certain pokemon. Great vid man. Keep up the great work!
I just think 558 base stat total is way too high for Luxray, I do think it needs some buffs, maybe even regarding base stat total, but it would be more fitting if its stats where rebalanced more than straight up buffed all around. I know it would still not be as good as we want it, but some pokemon just aren't meant to be... i've always thought its stats rappresent perfectly the pokemon, maybe just a little bit more speed and hp, and most of all way less sp.atk, it's way too high and I also don't think it fits Luxray. Anyway the video was still super fun, I hope you do more in the future (If I may suggest, Lurantis has always been one of my favourite pokemon since sun and moon came out, and I don't like how they made it work, with contrary only boosting their sp.atk, especially now that it doesn't have Superpower anymore). Btw sorry for the long comment :]
@@jtizzle124 I mean Arcanine is kind of his own thing, it's a mystical pokemon, one of legends and myths, a pokemon of epic scale. There are very few pokemon with a total bp similar to Arcanine, like Volcarona, Gyarados, Kingdra and even Urshifu, and these pokemon give me a similar vibe to Arcanine, or are straight up legendaries. It would be really out of place if Luxray was up there. At least this is what makes the most sense to me but I get why you would think that.
Mega evolution is no more. GameFreaks likes introducing a new battle feature in every new generation and cancelling the old ones (type gems in gen 5, megas in gen 6, z-moves in gen 7, Gmax in gen 8...)
@@oxcow99 Yeah I know, and what a shame that is (unless Kalos DLC theories are correct, but I’m not convinced). Does give me an idea for the rom I’m making anyway, which will most definitely have Megas coming back
Honestly, just buffing wild charge to 120 bp would already be great for Luxray, since it gets agility to fix it’s middling speed stat. A guts flame orb set with agility, wild charge, facade, and ice fang could be quite good.
It's speed is only one of it's big problems, the other problem is that it's movepool is abysmally bad with not many good options for physical moves, with it's coverage moves being the elemental fangs and crunch and not having many good options for physical stab moves.
Not just Luxray, but any physical electric type without a signature move. Just give us a good and widespread high powered electric physical move, for Arceus's sake.
That is a thing that, if they actually do that, will be the end of Pokémon since they have exhausted all other stuff. I mean, it is sort of happening currently even given the great aspects of Scarlet and Violet simply because it is proven that GameFreak, because it is harnessed to an unstoppable juggernaut, cannot chew gum and walk and cannot learn to do both simultaneously. Meaning, the day that Pokémon gets “better” than this, it will crash and burn, and while Gen 9 is enjoyable it is also disappointing and an apex.
Wild charge either needs its bp increased or recoil removed. No reason for it to do recoil as a 90 base power move when its special counterpart thunderbolt has no drawback and can even para
Take 15 points from it's Sp. Atk (or give it Overheat since Manetric gets it), and redistribute those between HP, DEF and Sp. DEF. 96 124 91 80 91 80 *You can also give it into Speed on top of the 80 instead of bulk, if you feel feisty, sitting at base 95
I think that BST is pretty high for a regular fully evolved Pokemon. As most sit between 430-540 (minus a few like Ursaluna, Florges, Arcanine, and Kingambit, not counting Slaking and Archeops). This is 562.
I disagree with giving it a Dark typing. It isn't useful in terms of defensive coverage. And a lot of Pokemon learn Crunch, Crobat, Stoutland, Boltund, but we aren't gonna make them dark types. Sure it looks like a dark type, but a lot of pokemon look like a certain type that they aren't. I just think we should stick to his move pool and stat buffs, since they sound more realistic in the first place.
My pov has been for years that Wild Charge should be 95 bp and should only do recoil damage if you aren't electric type, it's so sad that basically all physical electric types are just completely disregarded because of the lack of a consistent spammable stab outside of Zeraora
I wonder if Strong Jaw would be fun on this thing, assuming you also made it part dark. Thunder Fang would be 7.5 BP stronger than Wild Charge and have no recoil, though it is 5% less accurate. And stab Strong Jaw Crunch would be fun. I don't think it would be OU/UU or maybe even RU level, but Thunder Fang Ice Fang Crunch and Volt Switch on a part Dark Luxray sounds fun.
YES, buff Wild Charge AND the fangs move too, 65 bp without 100% accuracy is way too low. Looking at Flareon, just giving it a stronger STAB should raise Luxray's viability a fair bit. Both Luxray and Flareon would benefit immensely by switching their Speed and Sp.Atk stat
Luxray really suffers from being designed as a Pokémon a lot of kids will use. It’s fairly high SpA is obviously there so kids can just spam Thunderbolt and Wild Charge cuz they don’t know the difference between SpA and Attack. If it was designed with more of a competitive eye, it probably wouldn’t have gotten that much SpA and instead more speed or bulk.
In blaze black 2 redux, Luxray is electric/dark. Wild charge doesn't have recoil damage in that game, either. That changes a lot of things and is great, but I think electric/normal to get the most out of facade or electric/fairy for play rough and spirit break. Luxray is my favorite pokemon, so thanks for the video, mate.
Great video, Definitely hope these changes are made to the future of Luxray. Imagine the return of Mega Pokemon and Electric/Dark Mega Luxray with movepool update and stat buffs
I like the analysis of Luxray but really struggle with the whole "let's change everything about it to make it better" Because that will always have a chain reaction affecting a bunch of other Pokémon, so now you can have a never ending discussion of power creeping every Pokémon I think it's fine of course to discuss buffs, but I feel like often it turns into like I said, "let's change almost everything about it" Again, not saying it's wrong, just saying I struggle with how I feel about it
I don't understand why they don't just give volt tackle to more mons? Wild charge is so depressingly bad. If it was up to me I'd switch wild charge and volt tackle's damage numbers, remove the recoil on volt tackle, and give both moves to all physical electric types. That way volt tackle would be 90 power no drawbacks and wild charge would be 120 power with recoil. It would make more thematic sense too.
You know, I get somewhat annoyed whenever someone says "Add Dark to Luxray," but you managed to win me over with the rest of the video. Well-played, Mr. Doctor!
It doesn't even make sense for Luxray to be this slow. It's an Electric type - a type known for speed-heavy mons - and a lion, an animal known in real life for its superb ability to chase down fast-moving prey. What were they thinking?
These videos of buffing unviable Pokemon look really interesting. I hope this becomes a series in the future. I think the next Gen IV Pokemon that should get a rebalance buff is Rampardos. Some of my ideas to make it viable, in some low tier at least (without making it broken) are: +40 in its stats: HP 97 + 6 Defense 60 + 20 Speed 58 + 14 With the following changes, Rampardos now has 103/80/50 overall bulk. Sure, the special defense is still bad, but with the improved defenses and tiny buff in its good HP, Rampardos is less frailer on the physical side, and has the chance to at least take one neutral hit when it enters the field. The improved speed makes it reach 72 base speed. It doesn't seem that strong, but Rampardos can now outspeed Tyranitar and Tyrantrum, one of the viable Head Smash users in the game (more on that later). New moves: -Dragon Dance -Scale Shot Now Rampardos has new options to boost attack and speed at the same time. Rampardos looks like a dinousaur/reptilian creature, so makes perfect sense. Tyranitar and Tyrantrum can dragon dance, so why not Rampardos? New Ability: Rampardos already has two good abilities: Mold Breaker and Sheer Forces. However, considering it's design and Pokedex entry that says "Its skull is as hard as iron", it baffles me that the Rock Dino has a huge, strong skull, but it doesn't have Rock Head as a hidden ability. This addition can be used to make Rampardos work as an Choice Scarf revenge killer with Head Smash. Remember when Rampardos used to kill itself due to the awful recoil damage? Rock Head fix that. New typing: Strangely, Rampardos is the only fossile Pokemon with no secundary typing. In my opinion, being turned into a Rock/Dragon Pokemon would be pretty cool. This Pokemon already was able to learn some dragon moves in past gens such as Outrage, or Dragon Tail. As a dragon type, it can also get new stab moves, such as the already mentioned Scale Shot to boost its speed, Dragon Claw, or Dual Chop to ignore the focus sash effect. Of course, the new dragon type will make it weak to Ice, Dragon and Fairy, but in exchange, Rampardos can now resist Electric, have a super resistance to fire, and a neat neutrality to Water and Grass, two types it used to struggle in the past.
I think there are inherent balance issues. I think instead of just increasing his stats, like speed, they should be swapped. Swap it's Special Attack stat with Speed or Defense/HP gives it more range in team compositions for VGC. I like the idea of a dark type, but I think Guts is a bit wasted on him as an ability. Something that would increase his playability is swapping Guts for something like Strong Jaw. This gives you flexibility to either go in on utility with Intimidate, or go all in on an Attack build with extra damage to a STAB Crunch and Thunder Fang (honestly base power for the fang moves should be bumped to at least 75 if Psychic Fangs exists at 85 base power), bypassing the need for a bump in its base attack stat. I think a mixture of my thoughts and your ideas could give it the boost it deserves, and GameFreak can off set that jump in power with a different way to get Luxio to evolve. Something like a Thunderstone or trade while holding an Electirizer. Added coverage moves definitely would help too. I like close combat, and I'm glad it has access to Trailblaze now, but what if i learned something like Iron Head? One move like that changes how it can be used offensively, and giving its Extreme Speed gives it more situational flexibility. Sometimes less is more. Really interesting video, honestly. I've always loved Luxray's designs, but almost never use it (even on single player playthroughs) simply because of how underwhelming the final product is.
I get why people want luxray to be dark but besides the fact it gets bite and crunch (moves any big cat SHOULD learn)… why? It gets 2 other dark moves it can learn and it’s black fur is a weak argument. It’s personality based on the Dex and anime appearances don’t fit the dark type. Imo it’s completely justified being mono electric. Do I agree the points here WOULD make him better? Absolutely but i hard disagree that it SHOULD be a dark type
My idea to buff Luxray would be to decrease its special attack stat by 20 points, and add those 20 points to its attack stat, which is the one it actually uses. This would give it an attack stat of 140. Then, replace its Rivalry ability with Guts, and then change its hidden ability to Galvanize. After that, add Extreme Speed and Double Edge to its movepool. Boom! Now the Galvanize ability will turn Extreme Speed into a powered up STAB Physical Electric priority move, meaning that Luxray can hit super hard and circumvent its low speed. Double Edge would give Luxray an absolute nuke of an attack, with Galvanize making it a STAB electric move and increasing its already high power by 20%. With these changes, Luxray would have a unique playstyle for an Electric type, while its still slow and frail, its attack stat is now a massive 140, meaning that it can be a terrifying wall breaker with a Choice Band plus Galvanize boosted Double Edge, allowing it to wreak havoc on slow pokemon, and if its fighting something faster than itself, it can use Extreme Speed, which will still hit hard with a Choice Band and Galvanize boost, and will allow it to completely bypass its low speed via priority. Its biggest weakness would still be Ground types, since neither Double Edge or Extreme speed would work on them, so Luxrays 2 best moves wouldnt help it in this matchup. But now it at least has a unique niche that it can use to stand out and deal some big damage to all non ground types.
All they need to do for luxray and electavire is add a 55bp electric physical move with +1 priority. It makes perfect sense that the electric type gets a better version of quick attack or aqua jet. Also buffing wild charge to not deal recoil when used by electric types, (like toxic doesn't miss when used by poisons) would be nice. I understand leaving its bp as is since a number of mons get it as a coverage move.
You know how quadropeds get kicking moves? They should make a Electric (and Ice) variant of Blaze Kick. The quadruped body type is a low tier body types because it can't get access to as many physical moves. 'Bipedal with a tail' is currently the the most powerful body type in the game, followed closely by 'bipedal without a tail'. "Bipedal with a tail" gets moves related to the head (headbutt, head smash, etc), the body (tackle, flare blitz, etc), the arms (pound, cross chop, etc), the legs (double kick, jump kick, etc), and the tail (aqua tail, dragon tail, etc). "Quadroped with a tail" gives you the tail, the head, the body, and only some leg moves cuz some (like High Jump kick AKA Jumping Knee Kick) require more athleticism then their body can provide.
In pokemon Inclement Emerald, Luxray is electric/dark, 90 speed, has strong jaw, and access to volt tackle. Banded luxray carried me through half the game
A final sprinkle on top could be the addition of the Motor Drive ability. (Getting it re-introduced in Gen 9) Giving its otherwise mediocre speed an extra boost.
Another interesting idea i could imagine is strong jaw instead of rivalry: "Stab" on every fang-type-move (for ice and fire fang) 120 Crunch (or potential 160 Crunch with getting dark as dual type And most importantly a 162 base power thunder fang with stab, strong jaw and tera electro The miss chance by 3 of 4 moves can be lowered through wide lense And with just 5% u still hit enough times to just run a choice band I think that would be a better complete of an overall rework of luxray but the wild charge changes would be of course better boosting its being as an electric type
I think Gen 9 is the first generation where physical Electric types are actually faring decently, and that's mainly because of a couple of Paradox species.
Aesthetic aside, a typing should also match the Pokémon's nature and from what the lore says about Luxray, it's not a Pokémon fighting dirty out of necessity or malicious intent. The Intimidate ability could be considered evil... maybe ? With Rivalry, i guess it means it's more of a prideful Pokémon... which could support the idea behind a potential Dark type. Luxray requires a little more speed (10 ~ 15) and better STAB moves. Spark and Flame Wheel could become equivalent to Waterfall or as you said, Wild Charge gets a buff (from 90 to 110 ~ 120). If not Spark and Flame Wheel, Thunder, Ice and Fire Fang get a buff from 65 to 80 at best or 75 at worst. How come Crunch and even Psychic Fangs are more powerful than being bitten with electricity, fire or ice added on top of it ? For its abilities, Luxray could lose Rivalry and gain Infiltrator instead as according its lore, it's able to see through things ; why not implement it in the gameplay ? Infiltrator, No Guard and Mold Breaker are potential candidates to reflect that trait. Volt Absorb/Lightning Rod is also interesting if you consider Luxray requires a lot of electricity to use its x-ray vision. There would need to be more physical Electric moves: - one Quick Attack variant (40 BP, no secondary effect) ; - one Waterfall variant but paralysis as a secondary effect instead (80 BP, 20% chances to paralyze) ; - one Aqua Tail variant with higher BP but lower secondary effect (90 BP, 10% chances to paralyze) ; - one Flower Trick variant that always deals a critical hit (70 BP, no effect) ; - one Psyshock variant doing the opposite of it (80 BP, uses Atk to hit SpDef of opponent) ; The idea is that electricity can leave someone dazed and stunned. - a budget Plasma Fists like Scald and Steam Eruption for Electivire (90 BP, same effect) ; - a Hammer Arm variant, possibly inspired by Thor's Hammer (110 BP, 90 Acc, Speed recoil) ; As a bonus, Charge could bestow Static effect alongside its initial function until the next move of its user. Static's description is as per the following "The Pokémon is charged with static electricity and may paralyze attackers that make direct contact with it."
Most of the time, I just think Charge should give 25% of HP insted of spdef. with the boon in power, i feel like it would still help. a bit unsure for 50%, maybe under Electric Terrain?
I remember when Diamond came around and I was gifted it, Shinx was one of the first wild Pokémon I caught. When it evolved into Luxray and I noticed it was still a pure Electric type, instead of Electric/Dark, I was pretty dissapointed...
GameFreak know they messed up with Wild Charge because they seem to give every new physical Electric type Pokemon a signature move. Togedemaru, Zeraora, Draco/Arctozolt, Morpeko- hell, they even invented a whole new ability just to accommodate for Alolan Golem. Wild Charge either needs to be buffed in power as you said or have its recoil removed and maybe give it a chance to flinch. Just something.
Aw...but (Guts + Agility) Luxray has gotten me so many wins in casual and competitive.....overall (with luxray being one of my all time favorite pokemon and one that I've kept a close eye on competitively, having tried for years to force it to be viable in any way at all) I honestly like the changes you gave it, especially stat-wise being slightly bulkier and giving it some reason to use intimidate and Baby-doll Eyes (yes for some reason it actually gets that move)......but even though it does fit the theme of Luxray, I don't think making it a dark type would be good at all outside of being a fair way to balance it out....also I can't help but picture Luxray using it's eyes for Light That Burns the Sky lol...
As someone who lives in not Texas but still the south this isn’t a Texas exclusive thing, we are getting a snow day tomorrow and it was 60 degrees high last week. Further from the equator is just a little less wacky.
Luxray is my baby and I will always use him even if his stats suck. Shinx always shows up shiny for me, so I can't just say no .. Its design is peak Pokémon design and it deserves better. I think it should have gotten a true signature move, being as cool as it is. Also luxray is a lynx, not a lion . (It has minor lion traits, but its entire design is basically the lynx constellation as a furry oc)
idk about making electric super effective against steel, but it'd be pretty cool if there was a move that did super effective damage to it, like Freeze Dry. Like Conductor Beam or Channel Force
It's so wild to me how Gamefreak decided to give garchomp, salamance and other already super strong pokemon megas but not pokemon like flygon, luxray and many others that actually deserved that love.
this basically makes it compete with Arcanine, another equally beloved “elemental” carnivorous mammal pokemon, just the canine version. i think that’s fair.
Whenever I go to fix a Pokémon, I try to switch around certain base stats and giving a bit smaller but still noticeable stat changes, although Luxray is owed the dark typing at this point
I don’t agree with “Spikes” & “Parting Shot” (not thematic enough), but I loved the rest of these changes. Wish they would implement hot fixes for these underdeveloped Pokés. Listen to the doctor!!
Since it's based on an Egyptian Sphinx it could get Revival Blessing and Trick alongside those stat changes. That would send it all the way to OU by niche and probably UU or RU by tier. Rock a choice scarf, bash through squishies, throw scarf at walls and counter-stall with a 7 pokemon team.
I’ve always seen Luxray as a biting pokemon, learns so many biting moves yet it doesn’t have strong jaw to make them viable. I think Strong Jaw, Parting Shot and switching spatk and speed is more than enough to get it viable
Giving Luxray the dark type along with Strong Jaw would be a really potent and fitting change. Also boost the elemental fang moves up to 100% accuracy. Crunch, Thunder Fang, Ice Fang, Close Combat would be a hell of a moveset to switch into.
They should rework wild charge into a 40 BP priority move and limit access to it or make it 80 BP with high crit and no recoil, while spreading volt tackle to many new (mainly physical / electric type) pokemon.
My first DS was secondhand with pokemon platinum on it. The person who played the game had traded a started for a shiny luxio, instead of reseting the game and having a new starter I decided to play with luxio being my "starter" since it was pretty early in the storyline. He became one of my favourite pokemons ever since and it pains me that he is not viable, such a cool design.
