So you are right on the money with the comment about the final track sounding "angrier". At this point in the DLC storyline Kieran *HATES* out guts and iirc right before this fight he straight up says "he's going to destroy us". Also as a note of how much he wants us to go down, he is one of the few required story fights to have a almost perfect competitive setup. For context the pokemon games have a competitive scene because there area lot of really deep systems for battle and the pokemon company even has an official VGC tournament each year......and Kieran uses mon/setups that you would see in competitive worlds events. There were people who legit STRUGGLED to continue the story because of him. This kid wanted us so dead he went off to another school and learned real world strats and brought some previous high tier pokemon. There are very few required story fights in these games that challenge people and for some people Kieran's champ team shot up into those lists, alongside the likes of Cynthia, Ghetsis, and ultra necrozma.

Pokemon scarlet and violet is considered polarising because it’s quality as a finished product is not great, theres visual glitches, fps drops and occasionally crashes for some people. However, it has a great story, the core gameplay is great and has seen several quality of life changes for both more casual players all the way up to professional competitive battlers. I think the general consensus is it would be an amazing game if it didn’t have any of the technical issues but those drag it down a little bit, and if they had just had more time to fix the issues pre release it would be the best games so far.

The Pokemon you pointed to in the Champion song is the final evolved form of Porygon, called Porygon-Z! It received two evolutions; Porygon 2, which is a refined and smooth version, and Porygon-Z is obtained when you trade Porygon2 with a "Dubious Disc", which is supposed to corrupt the Porygon, making it into a very glitch-like and hectic Pokemon. Also, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is Generation 9. I started with Pokemon Emerald, when I started in 2008. I remember hiding under blankets at night, sometimes not even playing the game, just listening to the music come out of my Gameboy Advance SP's speakers. It's insane seeing how far along the series has come, and all the changes that has come with the time. Pokemon lately has even started to have bosses that are actually somewhat challenging by Pokemon standards. Despite playing rather consistently for 15-16 years, there's a couple that have stumped me for more than a couple attempts, and I like that! Light spoilers ahead! To contribute to everyone's talking about Kieran's story, in the first two songs, he battles in the casual, classic format everyone recognizes, one-on-one battles. But in his Champion battle, he fights you using double battles, which is nearly the same format that is used by actual competitive Pokemon players who compete in everything up to the real world World Championship.

21:17 Champion is a title bestowed upon the best of the best Pokemon trainers, typically of an entire region. It's a title that's been around since Gary (Blue/Green) Oak battles you at the end of the Pokemon League in Kanto. Kieran is kind of a strange case since he isn't the Champion of a region (which in this case would be Unova) but the school that he attends. Also, Scarlet/Violet is as of now the only game(s) to have multiple Pokemon League Champions at once for a region.

Light spoilers You are correct that he is a character that is fought multiple times over the story. He was introduced in the DLC for Scarlet/Violet which was split into 2 parts. In the first part you basically do get him to hate you, and then he comes back in the second part having only trained to defeat you. Champion in this context refers to a league started by students of an academy. He became the strongest at his academy and then you arrive as a transfer student and then fight him while there. Trying to be vague to avoid spoilers though, so maybe not the best explanation.

@kevinnguyen4711
@kevinnguyen4711 Месяц назад
Pokemon Champion is an official title and rank, and it basically means that you're the strongest trainer of a specific region in the Pokemon world, which you get by beating the Pokemon League of that region. Pokemon Master has always been an unofficial title, to my knowledge, and it could mean a variety of things, like catching them all or being the best trainer or some combination of these. But the primary goal of the main generation games (and much of the anime) was always to become the champion of the region. Just some clarification on that specific question. But as for Kieran, he's your player character's rival for the Pokemon Scarlet/Violet DLC story. He changes a lot throughout the story, to the point where it's difficult to bring his story up without spoiling _something._ To put it in the least spoilery way possible though, his rivalry with you begins friendly, and steadily becomes nastier and more bitter, until... to put it lightly... he goes off the deep end. You can kind of already guess that just by listening to the progression in the music. But his character arc is one of the most legitimately interesting and layered I've seen come out of Pokemon, and his character dynamic with your player character is a lot more complex than some fans give him credit for. Seeing his journey was quite the ride, and Kieran is probably the number one reason I enjoyed the DLC. P.S. Regarding the two Pokemon you were asking about in the middle theme, that long-nosed plant Pokemon is Shiftry, and that flying bat-like Pokemon is Gliscor.

To answer some questions, Kieran is a kid. We meet him on a school fieldtrip, and at first, he's just a shy kid. We battle him, and he loses, its not very hard to beat him. Thats theme 1. The player and him go on a short adventurer as part of the fieldtrip, but his true desire is to meet and befriend a Pokemon named Ogrepon. Well, after a bunch of stuff, we meet Ogrepon, and she wants to journey with the player. This upset Kieran, and he challenges us to a battle for who gets Ogrepon. Thats theme 2. We beat him, and catch Ogrepon right in front of him. After that, he kind of snaps, and decides to focus completely on just training his pokemon to the exclusive of everything else, and he becomes kind of a jerk. Eventually, after a while, we find him again, where he's become the strongest student from his academy. And he challenges you again. Thats theme 3. As for another question, "Champion" is a rank or title in Pokemon that means different things depending on the game. For most of its history, a Champion is the strongest trainer from their respective region. For Kanto for example, in red/blue, the Champion you fight is Blue, your rival, until you beat him and become the Champion. In Scarlet/Violet, however, a Champion is any trainer who beats all the gym leaders, the elite four, and then Champion Geeta. Doing this grants you the rank of "Champion", but there are multiple champions. The player's friend and rival Nemona is one, as is the player eventually. Kieran, meanwhile, is Champion of a student-run league at Blueberry Academy, so its a little different.

The games not having voice acting gives VAs like me a fun opportunity to voice them all ourselves! I did a pretty fun voice for Kieran. "Does he have...ears...?" He's a human so I certainly hope so. SV are very well TOLD games, and being JRPGs the story is in the forefront. The issues come mainly from the frequent glitches, poor optimization, and dated graphics (a lot of people also had crashes). But the story, the characters, and of course the music are fantastic. I cried my eyes out a few times during the plot and I'm pretty sure the ending changed my brain chemistry. Thank you for your salute to Rachael Lillis. The whole fandom misses her. And it's rare for Pokémon social media to post about either people (other than tournament winners) or tragedy, but it saluted her. She was also in series like Revolutionary Girl Utena (god now there's a series with great music) and Slayers and Gundam and many others. "Champion" in Pokémon refers to basically the top of the heap. In most regions it's the top of the regional league, but SV does things differently. The main region, Paldea, has multiple trainers recognized as champions, but only one is the Top Champion, because the league there is run more like a business and it wouldn't do to have a fifteen year old running everything. But Kieran is the champion of a special mini-league at the elite school he attends. It's taken very seriously as the school is meant to be the cream of the crop already, and it's also on the other side of the planet from where he lives (he's from northern Japan and the school is off the coast of New York) so he's come a long way to be there, literally. He's the same age (14 according to the French translation) but basically gave himself a Serious makeover. His champion battle music is so Castlevania. I feel like I should be slaying demons in a gothic castle, not beating up a yutz for his lunch money. You really should play some of these games haha. Granted most of the SV stuff has been spoiled for you by now including the final boss, but it's still a fun ride. Is there an apple Pokémon...well...kinda? The Pokémon is technically the worm inside it. Or rather, the "wyrm" inside it. That's a dragon! But depending on what kind of apple you give it, it evolves into different things, and one of them is basically a dragon-shaped apple pie! This has to be kept to the end because it delves into spoiler territory but "is he someone to be taken seriously". Spoilers below No, but his entire plot is essentially refusing to take no for an answer, including from his idol.

What ? No. Kieran's story is about him being all alone, having no friends, until we become his friend but then lie to his face, hurting his trust, and then steal his childhood dream from him, the one thing that made him keep going when he was at rock bottom. Kieran is a victim, and he's right this whole situation is unfair. A liar such as our character doesn't deserve to be Ogerpon's partner, at least not more than Kieran.

well, spoilers, hope the "show more" thing shows up... tbf. The player helps the dude gets confidence, practically steals his favorite pokemon directly under his nose, gets into a depression spiral down into a hyper fixation on being the best to the extend that he bullies his class mates and stomps down everyone including his sister. Ending up with a bit of psychological torture when you battle him with his fav pokemon. I think this deserves a couple different scores to put that on a spotlight.

(battle theme 1 1:42) Kieran is a trainer from the SV dlc who was always overshadowed and humiliated by his older sister and grew insicure and sad but also with a gentle and compassionate soul, relying only to a tale of an ogre to maintain happyness and that's why the theme is happy and enjoyable and that's why we end up being friends... (Battle theme 2 9:01) then we screw his live by discovering that the ogre was real and a good pokemon named Ogerpon and we help her get her masks back from the true villains, but throughout the story we end up "betraying" Kieran a few times by pushing him away and hiding things from him, until we finish helping Ogerpon, but she chooses to join the protagonist and Kieran explodes cause his idol didn't choose him as it's trainer and that's why the music is accelerated and serius, becuse he want's it back but ultimatly fails becuse he wasn't strong enough... (battle theme 3 21:18) in the final dlc Kieran did infact had a mental breakdown because of us and became "evil" with an obsession into becoming stronger by any means necessary to defeat us and get revenge, treating everyone like weak trash in the process but eventually becoming the champion (strongest) of blueberry academy by defeating everyone there, that's why the music is true final boss material, because he's the champion and most importantly, done with everything and everyone and caring only to defeat you by any means necessary and the music embodies the emotions of rage and despair of Kieran and the hope and sadness of the protagonist until we beat him, until defeat him and the piano plays when he realize he's still not strong enough to defeat us (Also, if you bring Ogerpon into the fight it triggers an unique dialog that shows how triggered he is about you doing it), then the story continues, lots of stuff happens, but he finally learns from his mistakes, sais he's sorry to us and everyone, and we became friends again❤💜💚💙

Each region has a Pokemon League, which consists of an Elite 4 and the Champion. There is usually one set of these per region and game, but Scarlet and Violet changed it up a little (Gen 7 and 8 did too I suppose). In the main region of Scarlet/Violet Paldea there are more than one person with the Champion title, most notably your rival who you fight throughout the game is holding back constantly in order to grow you into becoming a new champion. Kieran here became the champion of an Academy league seperate from the main league. That one is more traditional in the sense that there can only be one champion.

Bit late to this, but SPOILERS So Kieran is a character introduced in a 2 part DLC for Scarlet and Violet. He's roughly 14-15 the entire time you know him. At first, he's very meek, shy, a bit of your standard dorky kid that just doesn't quite fit in with everyone. He's bullied by his overbearing sister (Carmine), but he makes quick friends with you. He likes to battle, but he's not really good at it and loses to you a couple of times, but he's light hearted and having fun. That is Theme 1. Over the course of DLC Part 1, you learn he is obsessed with this mythical ogre from a story passed down in his village, and later learn the truth about the story and meet the ogre yourself. On the advice of Carmine and grandfather however you lie to him and keep your knowledge of the ogre (a Pokemon named Ogrepon) a secret due to his rather unhealthy obsession. Kieran later learns the truth, gets upset with you for lying to him which leads to him spiraling. A final confrontation occurs after you and Carmine help out Ogrepon and she wishes to join your team. Kieran's unhealthy obsession boils over leading him to angrily challenge you to a battle to determine who Ogrepon will go with. This is Theme 2. Kieran ultimately loses and Ogrepon goes with you. Mental breakdown ensues for Kieran where he resolves that he'll get stronger and stronger, only focusing on that fact and nothing else. DLC Part 2 then begins about 6 months or so later, where we visit Kieran and Carmine's school and learn that Kieran has become the Champion of their school's Pokemon League Club. A pretty stellar feat for a guy that a few months back was a pretty awful battler. Kieran has become a jerk, treating others around him like trash for not following in his rigorous battle obsessed lifestyle. Carmine and a member of the Pokemon League Club's Elite 4, Drayton, ask for you help in beating Kieran to hopefully get him to calm down. The Elite 4 are the best 4 Trainers of the Club beneath the Champion. Kieran is cocky and agrees that should you beat all of the Elite 4 he'll battle you. Once you do, then you battle Kieran in a Champion Battle in front of the entire school which is where Theme 3 comes in.

20:37 To answer your question on the Champion, it’s simple, but they have expanded on it in recent games. For the most part it’s exactly as it sounds, it’s the top trainer in that region, most game fallow the same formula you’d know if you remember the first game, beat 8 gym leaders (and some criminal organization along the way usually related to the games legendary and the actual story) then you take on the Elite 4 (other top trainers) and the Champion to try and clam the position for yourself. Sun and Moon a bit different without the 8 gyms but similar still just go do test on each island, get mark and Elite 4 and Champion. Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet expanded on it with it feeling more like a rank or government position of some kind with the Sword/Shield champion was constantly responsible with keeping the region safe. Scarlet/Violet it became a rank you test into with the Top Champion being the one who test individuals for it, as well they even explicitly state only those who are champion rank are aloud in Area Zero due to how dangerous it is, the Top Champion not wanting a researcher to go there without multiple Champions to protect them. The BB acadmy also haveing it's own Champion so students keep battleing and getting better. Kieran attended BB and became Champion after you beat him in order to get better and beat you, hence people wanting you to hear all 3 themes back to back as he was innocent at first be got enraged after loseing to you again and again so at the school he became very harsh to get better this being refected in his themes as each gets more "violent", honastly a really intresting way to show the character changing though the story. As a note: When did it come to be? It was present even in gen 1 with Red and Blue, your rivel just happens to earn the position right before you leading to your last battle with them.

Yeah, Scarlet and Violet cause very mixed opinions mainly because the games are clearly rushed. Not only are they very subpar visually, but most importantly they came out with lots of gamebreaking glitches. On the other hand, they tried so many new things like an open world and actual interesting and compelling characters and story, so that's why many people still love them despite the objectively bad performance. In my opinion, they are the most fun I've ever had with a Pokémon game and thus my favorites, but I can't really defend their flaws in the technical department.

Spoilers ahead, be warned. The way Kieran progressed was crazy. He goes from this shy kid who just wanted to be the player's friend and to find Ogrepon and be friends with her as well to damn near obsessed with beating the player. He's lonely, meek, and his sister's a real asshole to him. As he changes so does his team, and by the time you fight him as champion his entire team has changed and he's far more aggressive. A completely different person who has only one goal left to him after the whole Ogrepon thing: to take the player down in full out battle, someone they believed was their friend. He even calls you out in his champion battle if you have the audacity to call Ogrepon to the field and will EXCLUSIVELY target her till she's down. And yes, there's really an apple pokemon. It's called Applin, and has a 3 way split evo into Flapple, Appletun, or Dipplin. Kieran uses a Dipplin, and in his final fight he's evolved it further into a Hydrapple. The way it ends is like that because he has come at you with his full force, all he's done is train to beat you, and STILL you prevail. His revenge is denied and he has an actual breakdown as everyone in the school that came to the court to see the fight just turns and walks away talking about him and the fact he lost. Honestly, I just felt bad for Kieran.

Every Pokémon Game has his own Champion, because it refers to the champion for their own region. Gen 1 for example plays in Kanto and the Champ of the Kanto region is your Rival. Scarlet and violet are kinda the exception, because there is a true champion (Geeta) but also students in the “Champion Rang” like Nemona, Kieran and the Player. The norm is one champion for every Region/Game. Kieran is the champion ranked student in the DLC.

Scarlet and Violet are mostly polarizing because the performance on the Switch is atrocious for these games. They run at under 30 fps and in some areas its even worse. That said the games themselves were actually really well received compared to the last couple gens, at least from what I've seen. Scarlet and Violet is the first mainline game I played to completion since Gen 4, it made some meaningful changes to the Pokemon formula that were desperately needed, from the open world formula and being able to pick your path for the most part, and making catching pokemon less of a hassle.

Other commenters have already explained in detail the lore background of the music, Kieran as a character, and the competitive nature of his team, so instead I'll focus on your observation that this game has a lot of negativity surrounding it. The long and short of it is that Pokemon fans can't read and need voiced lines to skip instead of text to mash through, and they seem to have problems understanding that crunch doesn't cease to exist just because a studio makes a lot of money and/or it's employees don't speak English. Seriously, at the tail end of Covid, Pokemon got almost as many main series games in 13 months as Dragon Quest got in 13 years, and the gen 9 games were the last in line for that release blitz. The games keep increasing in size, but the release timing keeps getting faster and the development time shorter.

to answer the confusion about scarlet and violet (trying to be as neutral as possible here), basically the game has probably the worst looking graphics of any first party switch game, like unacceptably bad. despite this, the gameplay is pretty well liked and the music as you know is phenomenal, so many people choose to look past the abysmal visuals edit, thought I should add on that the main cause for this is that the pokemon company only gives around a three year dev time, not nearly enough to polish an open world game

Scarlet and Violet had lots of technological issues, but storywise was decent, and the music was amazing. I think if modern Pokemon games weren't saddled with the Switch and instead were on a more powerful console or (if still on the Switch) not a 3D game, it'd be so much better. S&V has some of my favorite final battle music though, and the champion theme from here (one of the DLCs) is one of the best imo.

About the Communitys View of Scarlet/Violet. For some Reason I recently noticed Sword and Shield (The Main Games before) are more loved than they used to. So I wonder if Scarlet and Violet will reach that Point too. That said the Main Issue is the Technical Side of the Game. As for me: Technical: I didn't have as much Issues as others espacially at Release had (Apparently it's worse when the Game/Update is on SD Card instead of internal Storrage from what I heared back then) For the other Aspects: There's 4 Aspects the Game is my Favorite in the Series The Characters: I adore the Players Gang they build up over the Main Story. I love how all 3 of them are written with me really relating to Penny. Like I could see myself as a Team Star Member and/or the one Friend she has before all that The Setting: I used to live in a Dorm myself so I love the whole Vibe of the Academy The Mechanic: Newer Pokemon Games tend to have a Mechanic that is by Lore connected to the Region. Tera is it for Paldea. "Usable by every Pokemon at any Time without wasting an Item Slot." Every other misses at least one Aspect of this + I like the Spin on Battles the Type Change gives (Altough I would have prefered adding that Type making a Double/Tripple Type instead replacing the existing) The Music: I listen to a lot of the Songs regularry (Sometimes with Fan Lyrics)

I think it's always been the goal of the games to be Pokemon Champion, and catching all the pokemon is something to work towards as a side quest for the Professor. But I think the anime show literally starts with Ash wanting to be the greatest Pokemon Master of all time. However that's quite arbitrary when you think about it. Does he want to be the Champion of the pokemon league in his region? Or all regions? Or does he want to catch every single kind of Pokemon there is? Maybe all at once, I think he just wants to be the best at catching and battling pokemon, and to do that he needs a full pokedex and to win the pokemon league. Maybe 'Master' exceeds Pokemon League Champion. One of the greats. In which case I'd consider Trainer Red to be a Pokemon Master by Gold/Silver. He's more than a champion, he's the best there is.

The past 2 generations of Pokémon, Generation 8 and Generation 9, have very mixed opinions. Generation 8 (Sword and Shield) has a more negative reputation, but Gen 9 (Scarlet and Violet) are the opposite and are more better looekd upon. To say they don't have flaws would be a lie, but I think they're fiiiiine. Both have a lot to love about them and of course as always the only way to know for sure is to pick it up yourself and formulate your own opinions. To throw my own two cents, Scarlet and Violet are very "junk foody" games. They're not as "good" as other foods are but they're sure as heck tasty. It does absolutely have the best characters in the franchise, the whole cast is lovable.

Despite having been in the anime since near the beginning, Togepi is considered a Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, and Crystal) Pokemon, because Pokemon are group based on the generation of games they debuted in! Pokemon used to have a habit of soft debuting Pokemon with the anime, as was the case with Togepi who was intended in the show to give intrigue for those who might want to play the games. I recall this also being the case with Keckleon, a Pokemon that wouldn't be introduced until Gen 3 (Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald) of the games, yet was introduced late into the first series of Pokemon years before it would be catchable in a game. Even the very first episode of Pokemon includes a Gen 2 Pokemon five years before Gen 2 would be released!

@@Greekanese31 Okay, I did some research, and there have been roughly 54 Pokémon that debuted in the anime before their game debut (counting alternate forms like Mega Evolutions or Battle Bond). The list is below, but as a quick guide to the acronyms used, "PK" means "Pikachu Shorts" (the shorts they'd show before the movies), "EP" means "Original Series" (everything before Ruby/Sapphire), "AG" means "Advanced Generation" (Ruby/Sapphire), "JN" means "Journeys" (Sword/Shield), "HZ" means "Horizons" (Scarlet/Violet), and an extra "S" attached to any of these means "Specials". The rest have the same acronyms as their games. The list of Pokémon (as well as their anime debuts): • Azurill (PK10: "Pikachu's PikaBoo") • Basculegion (JNS01: "The Arceus Chronicles (Part 1)") • Bellossom (EP122: "Flower Power") • Blaziken (EP265: "Pop Goes the Sneasel") • Bonsly (M08: "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew") • Buizel (PK16: "Pikachu's Ocean Adventure") • Chatot (PK16 again) • Deoxys (M07: "Destiny Deoxys") • Donphan (M01: "Mewtwo Strikes Back") • Duskull (PK11: "Camp Pikachu") • Electivire (AG 192: "Home is Where the Start Is!") • Elekid (PK04: "Pikachu's Rescue Adventure") • Giratina (M11: "Giratina and the Sky Warrior") • Gogoat (BW134: "The Journalist From Another Region!") • Battle Bond Greninja (XY100: "A Festival of Decisions!", which was a year before Ash Greninja was distributed in Sun/Moon) • Helioptile (BW134 again) • Ho-Oh (EP001: "Pokémon - I Choose You!") • Hoothoot (PK04 again) • Kecleon (EP205: "The Kecleon Caper") • Latias (M05: "Pokémon Heroes: Latias and Latios") • Latios (M05 again) • Ledyba (PK04 again) • Lotad (EP272: "Johto Photo Finish") • Lucario (M08 again) • Lugia (This is an interesting case, as Lugia was developed specifically _for_ M02: "The Power of One" - in fact, the script writer and co-creator of Lugia, Takeshi Shudo, was _surprised_ that Lugia was brought in Gold/Silver) • Dusk Form Lycanroc (SM037: "Rising From the Ruins!", before Dusk form released in USUM) • Magearna (M19: "Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel") • Manaphy (PK16 again) • Mantyke (PK16 again) • Marill (EP087: "The Crystal Onix") • Mega Mewtwo X/Y ("Mewtwo - Prologue to Awakening", the prologue to M16: "Genesect and the Legend Awakened") • Mime Jr. (M08 again) • Munchlax (M07 again) • Noivern (BW137: "Celebrating the Hero's Comet!") • Pelipper (EP274: "Hoenn Alone!") • Seedot (EP272 again) • Sharpedo (EP272 again) • Shaymin (M11 again) • Shroomish (EP272 again) • Slowking (M02 again) • Snubbull (PK01: "Pikachu's Vacation") • Sylveon (PK25: "Eevee and Friends") • Terapagos (HZ001: "The Pendant That Starts It All (Part 1)") • Togepi (EP050: "Who Gets to Keep Togepi?", though its egg was introduced 4 episodes earlier) • Volbeat (PK11 again) • Wailmer (PK10 again) • Weavile (M08 again) • Wingull (EP274 again) • Wynaut (EP252: "Fangs For Nothin'") • Wyrdeer (JNS01 again) • Zigzagoon (EP272 again) • Zoroark (M13: "Zoroark: Master of Illusion") • Zorua (M13 again) • Zygarde (XYS04: "Mega Evolution Special IV")

This will contain light spoilers, but I think the main thing other than the music that most people will agree was done right in Scarlet and Violet was the story, especially in terms of the characters, and Kieran is probably the best example of that. Scarlet and Violet got a paid DLC expansion that had two waves of releases, one in the summer and one in the fall, and Kieran was introduced in the first one and then they set up a big story for him going into the second one. The first wave of the DLC is about going on a field trip to a land called Kitakami, which is loosely based on Japan, idk where in Japan exactly but definently Japanese. Kieran and his big sister Carmine both live in Kitakami, altho they actually go to school in a different region called Unova. Kieran is shy and awkward but friendly once you break the ice, Carmine is your typical angsty teenage girl but she also becomes your friend and personally I think she's such an entertaining character in her own right. As soon as you come into town Carmine battles you, and then Kieran does as well with Carmines encouragement. You spend time having fun with the two of them before the story really begins with the introduction of a legendary Pokemon called Ogerpon. Long story short, the events of the first wave of DLC leaves Kieran feeling lied to by the player snd Carmine even though they meant no harm, and he swears to come back stronger and defeat you. The 2nd wave of the DLC has you enrolling in the school Kieran and Carmine go to as an exhange student. In the few months since Kitakami Kieran really toughened up, but his change in attitude left his friends worried for him. He ended up becoming the champion of the whole school, meaning he is the strongest trainer there and he has to fight to keep his title, which is really impressive because the school specializes in studying Pokemon, and especially in Pokemon battles. The 3rd song you heard plays when you fight him to take his title. There are so many details about his story that I just don't have the time to explain lol, but honestly I would recommend Scarlet and Violet as your gateway back into the series. It isn't without controversy but I'd say it was overall well recieved, and it's one of my favorite games in the series personally.

I have really fond memories with the DLC as well...and really fond memories of my game glitching out in the most insane ways. One time I encountered a pokemon and as soon as the pokeball hit it, the whole floor glitched out from underneath me and Pokemon slid down a low poly slope. After my game was done freaking out I was stuck in the floor and couldn't do anything! Eventually I managed to fast travel,but when I did I was stuck in the floor there too! Kieran is one of Pokemon's well-written character, hence the larger online debate about his dynamics. you can actually hear the progression of his story and emotional state from just the music alone, once you play the game and follow the plot, it all fits together perfectly along with the subsequent kieran-related songs involving a legendary pokemon name Terapagos. He also gets his own non-batte theme which is much shorter and more innocent sounding for just when you're talking to him AS WELL as a more sinister foreboding non-battle theme for the "darker" parts of his story in the DLC. That's a grand total of 5 themes either directly for him or very closely related to him. I'm not sure if there's another character in the franchise that gets that many themes pertaining to them or not, but he definitely got a highlight in this game.

As a Gen4 kid I felt like there was always controversy surrounding Pokémon. There is always something that people got to hate and love about it. Some examples: - Gen4 are too slow + Gen4 have the coziest tunes - Gen5 anime is bad + Gen5 games are now considered top tier - Gen6 said bye to sprites + Gen6 introduced Megas - Gen7 has too many tutorials + Gen7 has the best character designs - Gen8 is too generic + Gen8 has the best gyms - Gen9 has terrible performance + Gen9 has the best story Pokémon is the biggest media franchise, so I think it's kinda destined to be in that position of judgment and controversy. I think if you grow up with Pokémon you'll notice that Pokémon works on a generational shift even within the community and fans. People still talk about how Gen5 games where under appreciated in their time and I definetly do remember people hating on the games on release. I remember how for people Gen3 was everything and throughout the years that shifted to Gen4 and Gen5. It's the growing up, looking back effect in full force in my eyes. People are nowadays talking about how Gen6 was under appreciated with the release of a game in sight that plays in a Gen6 area and the same thing will keep happening even with Gen9. Pokémon is a fascinating franchise :D Clean up: Togepi is Gen2. The anime sometimes does these early introductions of future Gen Pokémon. The Pokémon that looks like an apple isn't the apple. It's the worm/wyrm in it. That said, there are food Pokémon that are the food. Fidough/Dachsbun are bread×dogs. Milcery/Alcremie are jogurts. Vanillite/Vanillish/Vanillux are ice cream. Pokémon are not just animal based. A lot of cultural, mythical, yokai references can be found...but sometimes it really is just a funny fellow^-^

Aaah, Kieran. Cute little kid going through an absolute edgelord phase. Spoilers ahoy, probably! -"Is this someone we aren't supposed to be taking seriously?" Kinda. At the point of the first theme song, he's some shy kid in a field trip. His song tells us he's got some depth, and then we're told he's basically in the "turbo elite battle school" so hey, gotta have some bright potential underneath the quiet and unsure guy wanting to make friends, right? -"Is this actually like, phase 1, 2 and 3 in the same fight, or it's like, first encounter with them, second [...]" The latter. First theme is his intro, second theme is a (penultimate) final boss of one DLC, and third theme is a major plot beat fight on a second DLC. You're arguably, technically missing out on one of his songs in this video, but admittedly "VS Kieran & Terapagos" kinda goes hand in hand with "VS Terapagos" (those do play one after another), so I guess it checks out. -"The music for these games is incredible" About this... frankly, I think that the Scarlet and Violet soundtrack is an abject failure. Ironic to say that on a video that has such bangers, yeah? But the thing is, although this game has some _amazing_ climatic tracks, and the DLCs had some amazing soundtrack across the board... wow, base S/V is background noise. There's no other way of putting it. Not a single town theme sticked with me, and that's kind of heretical for a Pokemon soundtrack. -"Champion" The strongest Pokemon Trainer in a region/area, and your usual goal to become. SV is really stupid and weird, because they decided to make it a general title instead. It was a very "participation trophy" type of change, it's kind of dumb. By classical rules, the true Champion in this generation is Nemona. -"I feel like at this point, we've pissed them off." "Mental breakdown, I was not expecting that." Shit happened, and the boy is now turbo-jealous of us on a very unhealthy way. Frankly, I thought he was really well written. Angry, but not spiteful or rejectful. Feels like an early teen becoming unhealthily focused on being better than their friend. -"Does that lead to something else?" No, but yes I guess? That outro was that fight's "Trainer beaten" victory riff. We're trying to give him a wake-up slap of sorts, so that piano crashing down is basically Kieran crashing down out of his full-on "I WILL BEAT YOU I WILL BECOME THE STRONGEST NO MATTER WHAT" mentality. He... takes a while to get better. -"There's going to be a part 2." Checks out. Can't do "VS Terapagos" without its pseudo-intro "VS Kieran & Terapagos", but the journey preludes the destination. See ya there!

That phrase makes no sense, but he wasn't going through a emo phase, he was all alone and when he thinks this is finally over thanks to us, we lie to his face and betray his trust. And then we, the liar, take his childhood dream from him, the only thing that he had left for comfort in his awful life. Not to mention his mentally abusive sister Carmine. The only thing Kieran did "wrong" in the Teal Mask is that he's not the protagonist. If he was, the story would be about him fulfilling his dream and catching Ogerpon and nobody would have a problem with it. But since he wants to do that while not being the protagonist, a lot of people think he's an egoist for wanting that, which is ironic when WE'RE the liar, the one who isolates him alongside Carmine and push him to do what he does. Kieran is not obsessed with power, as many people say that he is. We're a liar, we hurt him deeply since he considered us a friend. Someone like us doesn't deserve to be loved by Ogerpon, but because we're strong, nobody can stand up to us and prevent us from catching her. This is what leads Kieran to seek power, because WE taught him that strong people can do whatever they want, even if it's unfair.

Something other people may not tell you in the comments because they can't read subtext and if something isn't directly told to them, it doesn't exist to them, is that Kieran's sister Carmine is verbally, mentally and possibly physically abusive towards him. In fact, Kieran overall has pretty unfavorable circumstances. He struggles with making friends (and Carmine's behavior doesn't help) and is pretty lonely overall. At the beginning of the game, we become his friend, only to lie to his face when we see the Oni of legend which he admires (this was Carmine's idea but the game forces us to go along with it). When he inevitably discovers the truth, he's obviously upset since his only friend lied to him like that. But it gets worse when the Oni takes a liking to us. The Oni, the one being that he admired since forever, is all over us. We're a liar who broke Kieran's trust and the Oni loves us. To Kieran, it's unfair, because it is. We don't deserve it after what we did, at least not more than he does. But Ogerpon, the Oni, wants to be caught by us, which Kieran opposes because it's not fair, but of course he's no match for us. We beat him and then catch Ogerpon. Kieran is devastated. Our actions taught him that "fairness" doesn't matter, that the strong can do whatever they want regardless of if they're good or bad. He resents us a lot, so he wants to become strong to get his revenge for all the pain we made him feel, betraying his trust, lying to him and stealing his childhood dream, the one thing that kept him going in his awful life with the way Carmine treats him. But in the end, after all his training, it wasn't enough and we still beat him, which sends him even further down into his desperation. We hear about the legendary Pokémon Terapagos from the character Ms. Briar. So him, Carmine, Ms. Briar and us go find this legendary. He wants to catch it and use its power in order to defeat us. We eventually find it, and as its awaken, it starts walking towards us, which gives Kieran flashbacks of what happens with Ogerpon, so he quickly catches Terapagos before any of us can blink. He fights us with Terapagos but loses again. Then, following Ms. Briar's advice, he unleashes the true power of Terapagos, but it goes out of control and it puts everyone in danger. Terapagos attacks Kieran but our character protects him, which shows him that, despite everything that we did, we do care for him, and this is his first step towards forgiveness. We and Carmine try to stop Terapagos' rampage, but Carmine's Pokémon were already weakened and we quickly find ourselves alone against Terapagos. Kieran meanwhile is overcome by guilt. Everyone is in danger because of him and he doesn't dare to do anything, thinking he would just make things worse again. But eventually, we call for his help, snapping him out of it, and he helps us defeating Terapagos. You can feel a weight leave his shoulders as he joins the fight. He let out a scream of anger, frustration and pain at the beginning of his Champion battle, and this time he screams again, but here it's a scream where he frees his anger, frustration and pain. It's a really powerful scene even without voice acting. And when we defeat Terapagos, he even lets us catch it this time, as he regained his trust in us and knows that this is for the best. After that, he apologizes and says he wants to apologize to everyone else too and all's well that ends well. Kieran is a very compelling character, and very sad too. We really screw him over at every step of the way in the first part. And it's interesting in a meta way too, to see how the fact that we're a Mary Sue protagonist who can't be defeated and is loved by all the legendary Pokémon can affect other people within this world. But the narrative isn't perfect either, as Carmine's abusive behavior and the way it hurts Kieran is never really acknowledged. Heck, she never realizes that she's abusive, and even less apologizes for what she's done to him.
