Well then. Finally got a PB on this mess. Incredibly difficult not to die several times in this run, I tell you what. It's damn stacked against you in Stadium 1, and there's not really any room for innovation in Gen 1 with the limited movesets. But finally put something together to meet my first goal, sub 3.
This run can be improved by...a fair bit. Mainly at the Burglar, I think I lost about 25 minutes there. Next step would be obviously to die less, but like I said, getting deathless would be incredibly insane. Only 25 minutes of deaths is really good.
This run though...damn the clutch during E4. Fucking Jolteon, damn damn damn. Was a really fun run. Gonna take a short break from this game though, will almost certainly come back and try to beat this one some time later on though. Stadium games are really fun & easy to stream.
This was the first run of the day so I didn't bother to edit it, so there's like two minutes at the start where I'm setting up.

Wow! Jolteon was really out to prove you wrong when you thought you were gonna lose in the E4. Sorry for commenting a whole two years late but it's a lot of fun to watch speedruns while I paint and this one really made me want to mess around on the ol N64. Thanks for uploading so many stream records! I learn so much new stuff about whatever game I watch when I listen to them.

I was watching the end of this run on my phone in bed last night at like 5am, though I fell asleep a little before the E4. I woke up at 2:46:58 from you shouting when you get crit by that blizzard.

I often fall asleep to Werster speedruns and that's happened to me a few times, usually as I'm falling asleep he'll start yelling about something.

The Channelers in Pokémon Stadium, are known as Mediums, because they both specialize in Psychic and Ghost-type Pokemon. Even though they get mixed up with each other, the Mediums in Generation II and IV work the same as Channelers.

So, a less crappy question: Here and stadium 2, you do gym leader castle in reverse order -- why? Isn't it more clicks once you're done with the (first gym) to get back up to the elite 4 and then the rival? Seems like doing it in order would shave off a few seconds while speedrunning. That's what I was thinking on the stadium 2 video, anyway. Maybe it's different for Stadium 1.

Yes, it is more menuing, you are correct. The reason I do them in the order I do is so I can get harder fights out of the way earlier, and do riskier strats on them. If I was doing Giovanni's Gym last, given I would've already been playing for 2 hours, on a good run I wouldn't want to die and would do safer strats that would be slower, but given he is the first gym and I don't mind resetting I'm more comfortable playing riskier. So while I might lose 2 seconds on menuing, I easily make up more time in the fights this way

What do you think of the new Sonic Mania? Will you be speedrunning it?

Curious, I saw Parasect raise "Special" in the first fight. Did they not differentiate between special attack and special defense AT ALL till gen 2? That seems really crazy... and like running Amnesia would be a guaranteed win.

*watches Blaine fight with dropped jaw* Since when is Ice neutral damage versus fire? Has it always been like that? Seems like it would be ineffective, but I suppose one could make the argument that ice, once it hits a fire Pokemon, turns into water. But then why wouldn't it be super effective, like water? And how the heck is it even possible to freeze... I mean, in stadium 2 it does say using a fire type attack will melt ice if frozen... meaning it's possible to freeze fire types... but you wouldn't expect medium effectiveness. Or has it always been like that regardless of generation and I'm just an idiot.

Ryan Gainey Perhaps this might sound strange, but back then there was good reason the first generation of pokemon games were considered busted. Yes, special was one stat, and pokemon from generation one often had one of their special stats lowered in generation 2, such as Chansey's special attack stat. There's a lot of other oddities, but I'll share two of my favorites: in generation one games (including stadium, I think), Using Toxic and then Leech Seed will cause each tick of both damages to do progressively more damage, in tandem. So say Toxic starts first, and deals 10 damage. Then Leech seed drains 20, then toxic deals 30, etc. Also, in generation one games (outside of stadium, I think stadium fixed this) there is a 1 in 256 chance to miss any move that is not swift.

Special was indeed 1 stat in gen 1, Slowbro and Snorlax with amnesia were very strong. Freeze worked differently in gen 1 too: once frozen, the only way to thaw out was to be hit by a fire move (as in, your opponent's move) or by Haze. If your opponent didn't use either, the frozen Pokémon was unusable for the rest of the battle. Also, Fire types have never been immune to freeze, unless they have the ability Magma Armor, which few Pokémon have and wasn't a thing until Ruby and Sapphire.

if you were worried about things speed tieing jolteon. why didnt you use electrode instead ?
@9k49
@9k49 2 года назад
Jolteon has a better special stat than Electrode, so my guess is that the occasional speedties are better than the decrease in power

Also, wooooooow. The announcers have spectacularly crappier commentary compared to stadium 2. I mean, stadium 2 is still kinda crappy with the commentary, but it's slightly more inventive and is less tiresome to listen to. To the smartasses that suggest I just mute the game, why should I have to? Why can't the people who made the game have put good commentary in the game in the first place?
