So with this game coming out on Switch, and the fact I needed a few days to spend routing HG/SS stuff, I figured I'd boot this up and give it a whirl. I already knew from testing Stadium 1 it'd be much faster, so thought I could get a better time than my N64 PB pretty quickly.
But instead, I actually got a super solid run insanely quickly. Without question better than my N64 PB, this run probably comparable to roughly a 2:01 on N64. Pretty crazy how quickly this happened!

Werster, I remember years ago watching your Pokémon stadium 2 blind folded runs, and it was some of the most entertaining Pokémon footage I’ve ever seen. I am 29 now, but I miss having a lot more free time to speed run Pokémon red. Good times. Thank you for all the years of fun werster.

I recently got into Pokémon Stadium speedrunning and it’s awesome to see you back to doing a run for the games. I still want to improve my GLC R1 time for Stadium 1 but I can’t wait to try Stadium 2 runs after.

somehow on every single pokemon stadium video, this comment gets posted. Yes. Stadium 1 and 2 have different color pallettes for every pokemon, its seperate from shiny.

I love watching speedruns. Is there any video explaining the strategies and choices?

Not particularly. If you watch the run you pick up on most of it. Some team choices will affect the enemy AI, and some fights you know what the opponent is inclined to do, but largely it's just knowing the matchups and ranges well. And using boom/counter/mirror coat/destiny bond a lot.

I tried to see if I could get pass this as fast as I could a while back ago with only having beat it once when I was younger and somehow I got stuck on Whitney and her Milky. It felt really bad.

How good the split is on his PB. Werster has worked out the optimal sequence of moves for every fight in this speedrun. The letters next to each split represent how well each fight went. I assume he updates them appropriately every time he gets a new record.

My god that was perfect timing in the beginning. Having Golduck set up Rain Dance and then spamming Thunder 100% accuracy. How tf did Golduck out speed though? 😂

Rentals ain't great. Kanto gyms have higher IVs and DVs on the mons, so Zapdos has 109 speed while Golduck has 119. Honestly Zapdos probably would be the best strat for a fast Misty anyway since Zapdos's Thunder is basically among the strongest special moves in the game period, which is why it's used so much in Stadium 1 runs, and it's about the only way to get a 3 turn win against Stadium 2 Misty (even with the damage ranges on her Golduck and Togetic). The fact that her AI is programmed to lead with Rain Dance just makes it more consistent.
