I used to own that think chip Ash as a kid, and this video gave me war flashbacks. Shifting through my toy box was like walking on eggshells. One wrong move, and Ash *never* stopped talking and chuckling from the shadows.
LMAO. i was absolutely obsessed with the talking ash figure for some reason when i was 3-6. would play with it for hours every single day midnlessly. Every line or noise that thing made haunts me now well over a decade later as im trying to sleep,or coming down on insane amounts of acid or mushrooms, or even when im simply trying to exist. I havent been able to go one week of my life without hearing this version of ashs voice random appearing and asking me questions like "Are you tired? Are you hungry? should we try an electric type attack? there is no safety from the curse of ThinkChip ash, its the true sound of madness. No therapist understands my trauma.
These are the sound effects that haunt my oldest memories, having been obsessed with the talking ash toy when i was 3-6. didnt even have the battle stadium or know it existed, and the only three pokemon i had were wartortle, jigglypuff, and pikachu, but yet somehow id still play with for HOURS. Every single line ash said, and the nosies all three of the pokemon i had made when i put them on it echo in my head random when im trying to sleep still to this day, as a 21 year old. truly the sounds of madness.
I remember having the Ash Ketchum toy. I had Pikachu, Wartortle, and Jigglypuff along with it. The only interesting thing about it was the fact that you could "battle" gym leaders and team rocket with it but it was all through Ash's voice, so it got old really quick.
I had the exact same kit, but when i was 3-6 for some reason i never got bored of it and played it for hours every day, and youre better off having gotten bored of it quickly. i still hear ashs lines repeat in my head when im trying to sleep or coming down from ego death inducing amount of psychedelics. having it imprinted on your brain induces madness.

Id kill myself if not for the fear that When i get to hell instead of satan ill just hear thinkchip ash repeating the same lines for all eternity. So in other words, yes.
Having been obsessed with this toy when i was a very young child, still to this day all i hear sometimes is ash repeating "whats wrong pokemon" while on ego-death inducing amounts of psychedelics. ThinkChip ash is satan.
I had the battle stadium growing up! I had Pikachu, Golem, Bulbasuar and Charizard. Loved playing it when I was a kid and fought with my cousin a lot. I never knew there were other toys for that back then. I also have a Pokedex but it's a small LCD screen displaying images of gen 1 Pokemon. No cards needed. I remember getting it after doing my first play when I was 5 or 6... Great video Chad! Can't wait to see what that project will be like at the end!!
Oh my gosh I still own and love this! Mine is in some pretty rough condition but Im pretty sure I got it went it got released. If I remember right, you hit the center button, the large one, to make the attack sequence go faster. The goal is to stop the red dot in the center of the meter which will give you a stronger attack, if not a crit. And like I think the point of Ash is to take care of and level up the Pokemon. You can fight random people using him and/or the battle stadium to gain xp.
I remember seeing this on magazines, but they sadly were never released here in Italy. Also the Ash and Cyndaquil figures were originally bundled together IIRC.
I saw it in an Italian magazine too (Pokémon World? It changed its name to Pokémon Mania at one point but I don't remember when). I was so enamoured with it that I cut the picture out of the magazine and stitched it to my wall. In retrospective I should feel lucky I never got this abomination lol
I had a horrible day and I come to see this, thank you Chad for everything. You really help me cope with my depression and alot of things thank you Chad. ❤️
OH MY GOD. For the longest time I've had a Graveller figure with the weird plug bottom and I've had no idea what function it served. As I got into this video I wondered if maybe it had something to do with this and then BOOM big reveal at 5:43!
I had this growing up! You train your Pokemon with Ash, when he asks if you want to have a battle. Your Pokemon grow levels. Then you can battle with 'em on the stadium.
I had this as a kid. After selecting the attack type, you're supposed to hit the center button "launch attack." The light will stop moving side to side then. You're aiming to get it in the center, so your attacker is more powerful.
FRICK YEAH I had this as a kid, I thought it was super cool. The thing with Ash IIRC is that the toys do keep track of their own stats, and Ash can help you level them up faster.
Holy crap. I forgot that I had that Ash toy as a kid along with like two or three Pokemon but that's it. I never knew about the other toys that would work with it. Sweet mercy this was a throwback and opened my eyes.
I grew up with this. The set that I have came with Bulbasaur and Charmander along with Wartortle and Jigglypuff. I never got any of the other figures or seen them in person, but I made scenarios with the smaller Tomy figures and had some fun imagination battles. I had blast with this as a kid.
I had the ash Ketchum toy as a kid with the pikachu and a couple others. I remember liking it for the sole reason that I had a physical version of pikachu that could 'talk'
Thank you for opening this! These were for sale everywhere in Canada when I was a kid but I never thought to ask for one because I was happy with just the regular figures lol.
Hey! I still have that talking Ash! We lost the Pikachu and ball top, but he still works after all these years. If you turn his hat around, you'll battle with the Pokemon that's attached to him! Thanks for bringing back a piece of my childhood, Chad!
I remember having this toy as a kid, I think you were battling with it wrong, if I recall, you have to press the center button to deal damage, so the closer the little led is to the center, the more damage the attack does.
My older brother used to have all these toys when we were kids and I loved to play with the battle stadium even though he would rig the matches so that he always won. The Pokedex he had actually had an electronic screen in it that displayed pixelated images of Pokemon and at the time I thought that was the neatest thing. My brother and I bonded over Pokemon and game series like it and those moments have created some of my most fond memories.
8:52 reminded me of something that kind of scared me when i was a younger kid and that was technology i would have makeing a weird glitchy sound. Dont know why but probably because I thought it was haunted or something like that
I didn't have that one, but I had the Pokemon master trainer board game, which I have fond memories of. Still have it too, and hopefully I can share it with my niece when she gets a little older.
When that red light shuffles, you're supposed to press the button in the middle, I think, and try to land as close to the middle as you can, to get the strongest attack.
