Its glad to see a dissenting opinion in the Pokemon fan base. It feels too much like people trying their best to defend a billion dollar company. You put a lot of work and passion into this video. It honestly deserves more views.
By Gen 11, they will probably have 150 pokemon available with a paywall for each 150 pokemon you want to unlock and with linear progression in the story.
18:46 I feel you man. When I started to realize I too have to force myself to play a Pokemon game, only then did I start looking for alternatives. Not only did Yo-Kai Watch show me how good a monster collecting RPG could be but I also took the time to play Shin Megami Tensei 4 Apocalypse, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 and Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth and have been having a blast with all of those games. As you can imagine, I'm hugely looking forward to Yo-Kai Watch 3 and 4 but I'm not convinced to be looking forward to Pokemon 2019 even remotely because I've just lost all faith and interest in this series despite loving it for so long.

Gen 6 was a missed opportunity overall with the scrapped battle frontier and no Z version, but that was only because Gen 6 introduced so many cool things. Trainer Videos, Trainer Customization, Horde Battles, Super Training, Pokemon Amie. Gen 7 doesn't do shit. It subtracts nearly everything from Gen 6 and replaces it with bullshit like SOS battles and the god forsaken useless camera.
I can't describe how glad I am to see that there is actually someone else who understood how low-leveled Gen VII was. People say that this is the best game ever, like can you f*cking understand THAT? Calling Su/Mo/US/UM the best games in pokemon history so far sounds like a blasphemy, and like you have really low standards and expectations from pokemon games in general.
@Christian McKee gen 7 focused more so on the adventure in another way being the plot. What soap opera? The characters really weren't annoying and the region certainly wasn't soulless or had wasted potential. (well in terms of it being linear) I dunno if gen 8 has less good pokemon or not I mean I haven't even played sword and shield.
@Christian McKee I don't see how the characters were really annoying. And going with them from place to place is technically a adventure. Ok team skull wasn't ever the MAIN threat but they are still there and add to the whole experience. They even managed to help the aether foundation by a bunch of them battling you. The aether foundation's presence is undermined by team skull beign a joke? How? That makes no sense as team skull isn't the aether foundation and even then Team Skull has proven that together they can be a competent force. What do you mean the release of the ultra beasts wasn't taken seriously by anyone? The Kahunas and tapus took them seriously. Sure the fights aren't fully shown but still. Also by the time you see them again the reason it isn't brought up again is because they were already dealt with. So you haven't proven how no one in the main game takes the ultra beasts seriously. How is the rainbow rocket plot a "rehash" of the of the main plot in the ultra games? It isn't at all. No important conseqneunces shown afterwards? Pretty sure after that experience Faba is both demoted and Lusamine and Lillie become closer and Lusamine tries more to become a better person. It's no different then prior post game stories in that regard. Why does the player need to exist? There not just a tool for other (there not obnoxious) npcs to exist. Like if Lillie is playable you wouldn't be a trainer remember? As is you have a goal to complete the island challenge and be the best. I get why your still just a blank slate and that's to immerse yourself in as the player and put yourself in the shoes of the protagonist. If you played as Gladion that could be interesting but I could also say the same about other games like if you played as wally in the hoenn games or Silver in the johto games. As is though I don't mind the player character being how they are mostly. Also the games aren't just a "fresh coat of paint". They are different. Not all of gamefreak thinks that you know right? Otherwise why up the difficulty in the gen 7 games? (especially USUM) Ok Ultra megalopolis is a good point but technically that isn't part of the alola region. And many said that ultra space was wasted but that got expanded. Ten carat hill was a large area with some corridor like cave leading up to it. With some new pokemon to catch though and is optional. it's also the only place where you can catch rockruff so you may miss it. So I wouldn't call ten carat hill wasted potential as it's fine as is. The golf course and volcano are good examples of wasted potential though but the power plant? When was it ever hinted it was more then then what it ended up being? Not every single place needs to be something big and expansive. The power plant was just there to add to the alola region as a place that exists. Not every place is explorable in pokemon you know. Kanto isn't more focused then Alola. Kantomon only getting alolan forms is wasted potential though which really did suck. Most alolamons stat distribution isn't terrible though. The ride pokemon don't have terrible controls though? The strength puzzles weren't even from those two but from machamp and those weren't much of puzzles honestly. Your forgetting about actually sniffing around and finding items. Kanto isn't as focused on in gen 7 as you may think and let's go only connecting to GO doesn't have to do with the alola region itself. Really even prior regions had wasted potential. like we never got to see kyurem's original form or got to fight hilda/herbert in bw2. Honestly the region with the most wasted potential is Kalos but even then that region isn't bad or is the worst pokemon region. Gen 8 is worse for more reasons then having some of gen 7's issues and adding it's own. it takes out quite a bit too and is objectively bad arguably unlike gen 7. Honestly USUM are probably some of the best Pokémon games ever.
@Christian McKee Not surprising honestly but let's see how big Mine is what I'm done. I used to kind of find Lillie annoying but now I don't think there so bad really. There all good characters. Intrusive to the story? I don't see the issue with getting some time to actually know the characters. But I can see how it's annoying that they don't give the player space to do there own thing. There aren't any "cringe move phrases". I don't remember them blocking a hotel door but I do remember team skull blocking you from trying to get to a freaking bus stop. But considering you learn that they were hired by the aether foundation later on. Them taking over does show they are atleast competent to a degree. What did team yell do? Anyways yeah with keeping in mind that they worked with aether so at that point it kind of feels like a set up. Also normally you only fight like 1 or 2 team skull grunts at once and sometimes it's the same pair of grunts from before. So you haven't seen how tough team skull would be with all of them together. I think there was something about them being a nuisance to the point that they got punished by the tapus themselves. So it makes sense that team skull were ultimately able to do what they did. There skimmed over cause they basically seemingly disappeared. That's why the player couldn't take care of the ultra beasts and put the island challenge on hold. Because at that point it didn't even seem like they had to. The alola games still had unique deviation that weren't horribly done though. The story could already be taken seriously honestly. Ok then although I will say that what Faba got was still a consequence and I mentioned others to. But for very different reasons. Lusamine more so for the actual ultra beasts and Giovanni for taking over stuff directly and gaining more stuff. Um....hello? In the main story you help Lillie go against Lusamine but here your rescuing her huge difference. This just feels like scratching as you should just count this as part of your first point with Faba being a "repugant douchebag" since you fight Faba in particular again in the secret lab. That's a coincedence considering it's just the legendary pokemon of a evil team leader like the other ones you fight but whatever. Also the main story doesn't even end until you become champion. That was never implied in the main story though. This feels like your REALLY stretching to say they "copied the story last minute". Heck some of these are rather vague and don't go over the full story like the psychic legendary thing. Or the difference of Lusamine and Giovanni's motives. The real stories are that Lusamine wants to get rid of Ultra necrozma to keep on going with her plan to get the ultra beasts and fails to stop necrozma so you need to stop it after it keeps on absorbing Alola's light. While with Giovanni he wants to take over the aether foundation and Alola and Kidnaps lusamine to hold as a hostage. So yeah to say RR is a ripoff of the main plot is very dumb honestly. Are you kidding? the player feels like an afterthought? Even though you are tasked ALONE with fighting and beating ultra necrozma? Even though you ALONE fight Guzma and take on po town? Meanwhile again the hoenn games and wally for example. You still got a focus to a degree but you were just helping out Lillie's own family drama. So I wouldn't exactly call the player a afterthought. Also again you can't play as her since she isn't even a trainer yet. At that point you may as well ask why didn't you get to play as N in bw. Well you still get to decide to care or not. I decided and I learned to like Lillie more then I did at first. It really isn't hard to get immersed in the alola games. True the dialogue you could skip it fast before. But I don't think it's that much of a bad thing to have dialogue about more casual things that aren't strictly the main story. Also there's always been pointless and retarded dialogue. The poses barely take any time though like what is this a speedrun? trying to shave off miliseconds? Fade to black may actually make some things take less time then they would otherwise but it's still annoying that like when you climb up the latter in kukui's home for example that it fades to black even though it's something very simple happening. One zoroark with toxic won't steamroll the entirety of USUM at all. Also F.E.A.R Is known to basically defeat anything tough as well pretty easily so what's your point? You shouldn't only look at something if it can be cheesed or not. Yeah there was. Trials, having multiple evil teams to deal with that weren't even equals or rivals to each other, USUM having 3 different antagonists, alola forms, title defense, ultra beasts in general, having a legendary that can evolve, having a female main villian as well. Z moves are a "gimmick" like mega evolutions but they aren't the same thing. Every pokemon can actually use a z move and they can be used for every pokemon type and they can be used strategically and not just for offense. Plus there more balanced then megas and the dance aren't really retarded honestly. Only similarity is how there both battle gimmicks and how they both have some of them that are exclusive to certain pokemon. Also there is the fact that there is both crystal/stone and bracelet as well. But they aren't the exact same thing or even the same concept. Difference is a gem just boost a attack of a typed move normally while z crystals make them mega powerful and can only be used once. Oh and you actually have to complete island trials to get them. Gems are basically like how the already existing STAB system works. So they aren't z moves. How are ride pokemon terrible versions of the pokemon you could ride in gen 6? in that gen you could barely ride any pokemon and it seemed like a tech demo for more actual riding on pokemon which we saw in gen 7. There not terrible at all and if anything are a improvement over what was from before. Yeah they were meant to be a replacement to hms while also expanding on the idea of riding pokemon that we saw in gen 6. Hoenstly Tauros can do more then the bike can but you gotta hold b to go fast. Scoutland? Sniffing I can see as being more inconvenient but actually pulling out Scoutland is more convenient. Kind of a preference thing really. Although I like how with Tauros and Scoutland your using actual pokemon for more things instead of it all being technology. Feels fitting for the alola region if you ask me. I mean this is the same region that doesn't even have a league yet so yeah. Yes because without the devs saying it there isn't any proof that trials are last minute additions. And before you mention the seventh trial which didn't even have a trial captain let me say that there was a in universe reason why it was the way it was. There are still cool and memorable puzzles and while there aren't trainer fights (which btw can be as a repetitive if not more so then just fighting wild pokemon since your just fighting pokemon after pokemon and it's been done for 6 generations straight at that point) at least with trials you can't really leave the trial to go and heal at a pokemon center therefor making the challenge easier then it could be. Also usually it's just the gym leader who is strategic. And with Totem pokemon? They are certainly strategic. Also you can't toxic anything. Like you won't be able to poison a poison or steel type (which togedemaru can be a pain in the ass) normally without a salandit or salazzle. Only thing that could be a real ripoff is rotomdex but the others? Nah. Well you can change the controls. And it's not all hallways either. I was mainly thinking of the areas where you actually catch ultra beasts. Except most pokemon at ten caret hill aren't kanto pokemon and for just one area the distribution really isn't bad at all. It's blocked off for exploration reasons and it isn't because they think players are too dumb to explore on there own. No it's more so to test to see if players can remember that location for later exploration when they get the Tauros ride. The level design there isn't anything to special but it works as is and isn't bad. Flynium z isn't a one shot kill move though. Again z moves are more balanced then megas. They didn't make the same mistake as XY as here you can't access any part of the power plant. So no it's not the same mistake as XY but worse. Most area level design despite being rather linear the level design wasn't that bad overall. I get where your coming from with the volcano though. Should have mentioned the speed but yeah I agree with the very odd speed issue with alola pokemon. Is dunsparce actually faster then most of them though? that would be surprising honestly. Unova pokemon have there own issue to being how weirdly late they can take to evolve.
@Christian McKee Nope it's purely true. The kanto pandering was already annoying beforehand. Just for the record were mainly focusing on the alola games though. Player is from kanto and? The main protagonist in the hoenn games is from johto, does that mean it's johto pandering and not just a subtle piece of connectivity between regions? No of course not. Kukui only mentioned the elite 4 once and it was only Lance. Maybe? Or they just reused the idea? Like even if it is a reference it's not directly a kanto character or anything, it's more subtle. But even then it's not 100% clear if it is a reference or not. Yeah this may be a stretch. Like yeah Hau and Blue are both rivals who are your final challenge. But by that logic is iris's bw2 fight a reference to wallace in pokemon emerald? Seems like it could be a stretch huh? Yes it could be. Plus atleast Iris was also a actual champion unlike Hau. True. Also true. Fair enough actually Although Red was always one of the strongest trainers period and Blue actually has a very diverse possible team. They kinda fixed this rather minor issue in USUM. But otherwise kind of a fair point. This may just be a coincidence that they just went a bit overboard with kanto pokemon and didn't realize it. No most of the unique z moves are for alola pokemon. That would only apply to sun and moon and even then only if you include events. As without it you only got the pikachu z move the alolan raichu z move and the eevee z move. Pikachu itself I could discount since of course the mascot would get a exclusive z move. But whatever with USUM Alolan pokemon certainly have the most exclusive z moves. But only alola pokemon and kanto pokemon have any exclusive z moves. (honestly though I'm glad Mew has some sort of signature thing considering Mewtwo can mega evolve) Pikachu Valley is more so "mascot/brand" pandering actually. Also just gonna say The Area where the nugget bridge is at a johto inspired city. "The entirety" Yeah no. Considering that despite being called "team rainbow rocket" it's a collaboration of all the evil team leaders. Again the alola games. Alola GAMES. That's on the anime and that's likely because of the anime's 20th anniversery. Again anime's 20th anniversery not exactly just kanto pandering. Really you should have brought up Samson Oak as a example of Kanto Pandering. And while not kanto pandering there is a cool callback to the gen 1 anime with when you rescue cosmog from the sparrow. So yeah the alola games don't focus on Kanto more then Alola but out of any region that got a reference it did get the most. Want a game that you could argue focuses on Kanto more then it's own region? The gen 2 games. I know there sequels to gen 1 but still. Let's see here. The main villainous force is literally straight up the main villians from kanto without a leader. Your rival is related to said Villian team Leader. I haven't beaten the gen 2 games and have just started last week but....The first gym leader only uses gen 1 pokemon. The Champion's ace pokemon is not only a kanto pokemon but He himself is a character from kanto. The only Shiny pokemon that is story related or that your guranteed to find is a shiny gyarados which is a kanto pokemon. The first person you meet isn't even your own region's professor but professor oak from kanto. You literally go to Kanto post game. Well here in Alola the good also outweighs the bad. The execution in the alola games was objectively done pretty well. The wasted potential I wouldn't say is that bad as it could be in big part because of USUM. What pokemon's core audience wants varies from person to person. But gen 7 remembered what they wanted just as much as gen 6 if not more because it's actually more difficult and has a better story. Gen 7 had good online just a terrible online hub. I'm not saying gen 7 is innocent but even gen 5 isn't. You said the reason gen 8 is the way it is is partially because of gen 7 but I don't see how. Gen 7 had effort put into it while gen 8 was rather lazy. Gen 5 is the gen that started having the games remove stuff for no real good reason and it was also the start of the games getting more linear.

I was smart enough NOT to buy these editions. I stopped giving GF my money after Sun&Moon I read between the lines of those "NEW & COLORFUL" trailers. Only thing that would make me buy a pokemon game again is if they bring back Dexnav... Yeah, I'm that simple.

Funny story I actually got Sun, Ultra Sun, Moon, Ultra Moon for 20 dollars plus tax for all them. The only reason why I was able to get this game at such low prices was due to Shopko basically going into bankrupt and they basically needed to get rid of everything. So on the last day of the store being open. Everything was 100% off and for some unknown reason there were still copies of pokemon sun and moon as well pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. I hate this generation with a passion but at least I did get scam out my money like a lot people did😅

I can totally understand that feeling of being winded after playing USUM. I have both versions. I remember playing through Sun & Moon, I played Moon first and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I played Sun afterwards, enjoyed it, though I got a little hesitant near the Ultra Beast post-game because I was a little busy at the time, but I eventually got around to it when I heard USUM was announced and I made it my goal to also obtain the Shiny Charm in Sun as I already done so in Moon. USUM comes out, though I wasn't able to play it immediately because my shipment was going to take some time. I had watched a spoiler-free mini-review by GameXplain and... it didn't fill me with the utmost confidence when they said that the story was a "muddied up" version of Sun & Moon's. Finally get around to playing Ultra Moon. Was glad that getting the starter was a little bit faster because I'm a bit of a stickler for a usable nature, though it kinda disappointed me that the ritual where the trainer and starter Pokemon mutually "chose each other" because it was kinda cute (aside from having to replay it a dozen times to get the right nature...). But the largest red flag for me was when you meet Lillie and Cosmog at the bridge, fight a Spearow, but then the same damn cutscene from Sun & Moon plays out with the trainer protecting Cosmog with their body, and that's when I realized these games were going to be loaded with reused assets with some modified text in a vague attempt to pass it off as a new story. I would've rather have played the same story again from Sun & Moon, except there's no Ultra Recon Squad exposition around every corner; you'd meet them after (and this is how *_I_* would've done it) rescuing Lusamine from the Nihilego, where on the way back to Alola in the Ultra Wormhole, everyone gets attacked by Necrozma out of nowhere. You black out. When you wake up, you're greeted by the Ultra Recon Squad (except they're not actually a recon squad, they're just residents who lived where you landed) and learn that you were attacked by Necrozma, Lusamine also came with you (and is under intensive care for Nihilego's toxins), but Lillie and Nebby are nowhere to be seen. You are informed that Necrozma hungers for light and that Lillie and Nebby are possibly on the run as Necrozma fervently hunts them down. You are set out to search the Ultra Wormhole for a portal emitting a fluctuating pattern of light and dark aura. Entering the portal, you find yourself in a bright world full of vegetation, populated by what we know as Poipole (though we can catch them yet). No time is wasted as you can hear commotion in the distance, Lillie taking cover as two legends clash. Inevitably, Nebby is overpowered and absorbed by Necrozma as the world around you grows dark, the vegetation wilts and the Poipoles panic before fading into an eerie silence. You grab Lillie and are taken back to Ultra Megalopolis, where you are informed that Necrozma has gone to the top of Megalo Tower. Lillie goes to Lusamine's side as you are left to face Ultra Necrozma. After an intense fight, Nebby is freed and Necrozma flees to Alola. Lillie decides to stay in Ultra Megalopolis for the time being while both Lusamine and Nebby are recovering. You are given a kinda-sorta ride pager so you can return to the Ultra Wormhole whenever you visit the Alter of Sunne/Moone. After that, you do Mina's Fairy Trial, and then Hapu's Grand Trial. Basically, everything is the same that happened in USUM, except you fight Hau *BEFORE* entering the Pokemon League just like before in Sun & Moon. You defeat the Elite Four and go to sit in the Champion's seat. Kukui goes to congratulate you, but right before he provides you with a celebratory challenge, an Ultra Wormhole opens up, and out comes Lillie and Lusamine riding atop of Nebby. Everyone is happy to be reunited and equally excited to talk about the crazy day they just had. Then Kukui has an idea to let Lillie be your challenger. Lillie isn't too on-board at first, but Lusamine manages to convince her, letter her borrow her Pokemon, Kukui chipping in by giving Lillie his Z-Ring. And *BOOM* you get this epic-yet-cute-AF battle theme for Lillie; the battle is dirt-easy, but you can't help but smile at the events that just transpired in the last five minutes. Now THAT'S how you write a better story where Lillie gets to keep her character arc *AND* gets the taste of what it feels like to be a Pokemon trainer. Too bad they rushed these games' productions in one year... Sword & Shield better make up for this because I didn't work up the wherewithal to finally finish up Ultra Sun until almost a whole year after beating Ultra Moon. A main campaign shouldn't feel like a burden. Hopefully that's not too much to ask
I do like ultra sun and moon's plot more the scene in the original where lusamine who is super crazy and far gone suddenly becomes good after a couple words? no sure it had the scene that was removed in the ultra games with exxecutor island but other then that? lillie talking to her mom even off screen doesn't feel rushed and lusamine actually tried to be a better person to
I already posted a massive rant on the video about the first game but initially I was happy with the opening of these games because it was greatly shortened but as I kept playing it was just the same thing with the same problems and it became a slog to play through during the 2nd island. The only things I liked was the shorter length and 3 of the trials were a lot better, that’s it. Although I don’t get why everyone struggled with Ultra Necrozma I killed it in 3 turns thanks to my Zoroark.
wow, thanks for putting something into words that i only felt deep down. SM just wasnt any fun, but i couldnt really put my finger on it. i just blamed it on the many cutscenes, long tutorial and very easy gameplay. but it wasnt just that. its just not FUN cause you dont have anything to do. in past eiditons, i spend like 80 hours hunting shiny ghastly alone, not to mention other mons cause it was such a huge achievement. if the shiny mon got good iv´s and nature, it was a treasure to be cherished. there is no point in doing that anymore as you said. completing the pokedex had been a real nice challenge. you just had to have both games of a generation in the beginning. later on it got a little more complex. but nowadays you cant even catch a third of all pokemon with both gen 7 editions. and you cant even trade them properly cause you need services where you have to pay. it just is a huge cash grab and neither worth the time nor the effort. and trying to get into competitive pokemon without cheating is like a very boring full time job where you wont get payed at all. and even if you cheat, the meta is so boooooooring. a couple of pokemon are just so rediculously overpowered that you basically are begging to get your ass kicked if you arent using them. i mean, the tapu´s and their abilties are so rediculous, what was game freak thinking? not to mention their awful design. have the field be the same as weather, so that you can at least get rid of it without using a tapu. or have it only last 2 turns, or at least nerf the massive stats of the tapus. do SOMETHING. and im getting pretty sick of landorus as well. intimidate is too strong an ability anyway. its basically saying forget your physical attackers. and regarding your closing statement. you are partially right. i cant enjoy heart gold and soul silver as much as i used to as well. but thats mostly due to the fact that its you REPLAYING a game you already know, and that you already were frustrated with pokemon cause of USUM. imagine if they made sun and moon for kids, and usum was for adults. all the pokemon were 50% higher level, opponents got more pokemon, more competitive ai, better moves and composition. no mini map that tells you where to go etc etc. i dont think its you falling out of love with the concept of pokemon, its you getting tired of replaying good editions and seeing the game be more childish than it was 10 years ago.
not on my initial 80 hour try in the ghost tower, no. but once i discovered chain hunting, shiny hunting became my favourite pokemon pastime. got quite a few different monst i had always wanted in their shiny form and made single pokemon runthroughs with them. nowadays with all the hacking and easy access to shinies doing that doesnt have much of an appeal anymore :/

@@jaydenc367 USUM is another reason why i hate that gen. its not like omega ruby and ruby, or heartgold and gold where the graphics get updated and a bunch of new stuff is added. it just seemed like sun and moon were unfinished games and a short while later they released the full version. thats just flipping your customers the bird real hard.

See the issue? your logic is flawed especially when you bring up the gen 4 remakes as that gen had a enhanced version with platininum as well. So how is gen 7 any different then? It's not. If your upset that it didn't get a remake keep in mind a remake usually only comes out when a new console does as well.
This is so accurate. It just baffles me to why are some people are defending these games. Alola was already hard to hard to play the first time and the Ultra games didn't make any better. I bought this game for my 12 yr old cousin. She gave up halfway cause she said the game was boring. Mainly cuz the handholding and the tutorials forced down your throat. Does Gamefreak seriously think kids are really stupid nowadays? And people call the Sun and Moon games the best Pokemon games ever which is an complete over-exaggerating, ignoring the fact that the Black and White games were way better Pokemon games.

No man it's not that you're getting older... the games are getting worse. It's not just pokemon either. I've given up on so many things I grew up with because they aren't what they used to be. New generations of programmers and story tellers that don't know shit. All about a few new features and bloat without substance or anything good that made success in past titles. Movies are like that too. All forms of media are affected. It's horrible. I find myself watching black and white tv shows to see real story. I'm 38 now and I feel I'm out of sync with the world.
Yeah agreed sun and moon was trash same with let's go but don't worry sword and shield won't be like that because sword and shield will be for long time fans
i played platinum right after beating moon's main game and i found platinum way enjoyable than moon its not nostalgia either, i have never actually played a sinnoh game before
I'm almost getting all of the Pokemon in the Pokemon sun, But it sucks that the events from the ultra sun can't be in the same time in Pokemon sun. I missed out on all of them and it pissed me off too.
Got Ultra-Sun few years ago, could not finish it for the life of me. For the longest time, I thought I was playing Sun again, but I did check the cartridge, and it indeed was Ultra-Sun. I stopped around that one town controlled by the Skulls. Got back to the game this year on a blank file with almost no memories of Alola and Gen 7 as a whole. I actually had a great time playing through the story and postgame, shiny hunting, making broken sets for my team, etc. Sure it was all unfathomably easy (except the Fairy-type totem, by far the hardest fight in my whole playthrough) but revisiting Alola was very fun! Still I think Pokémon Clover did the Pokémon experience better. Fight me.
Only thing I liked about USUM was having to fight through the team leaders from past gens. Them having their respective legendaries means that in that timeline, they succeeded. It means the protag we play as failed. Cyrus destroyes the universe and makes a new one. Maxie and Archie flood/desolate the planet. Ghetsis freezes over Unova. Lysandre accomplishes whatever the hell his goal was (i forgot).
What I don’t get is how they did a reverse platinum where they had a game with a good story originally and they decided to ruin it. I liked lusamine in sun and moon as it felt fresh having and abusive mother as a main antagonist with psychotic goals. The only thing redeemable from ultra sun and moon was rainbow rocket and even that was nostalgia bait. Lilies arc was gutted for necrosma

i spent like 500 dollars in all for the pokemon sun and moon games and ultra sun and moon games which are completely the same. i also had to buy a nintendo just to play the dumb game. i hated it. the only good pokemon game wasnt even made by them it was made by fans named Lando64000 and TBradm but the pokemon community deleted it for copyright. when i saw that i said fuck pokemon im suing them. did i mention the fan game was free.

i never played regular sun or moon, just ultra moon (decided to get usum instead of sm cuz the legendaries) from what i heard about sm vs usum, i think it might be better to get usum because its sm but with a bit more content (at about the same price, although some story elements change i guess) yes i know i'm 2 years late
disagree with many of the points but really appreciate you making it interesting and consice and something i could sit down and watch instead of listen to in the backround. so many review/rant/discussion videos these days are 3 hour long videos that make maybe 2 points an hour and seeing something that is, well, not that is quite refreshing

Me who’s first games where Black and White 2, and I found my old White 2 cartridge today: I agree that the new gens are mostly terrible and that almost every game after 5/6 was pretty bad
Sonic 06 could actually be fun and at least Shadow and Silver's story bits kept me invested in the plot. USUM (and Gen 7 as a whole for that matter, including SM and Let's Go) are some of the most unfun games I ever played, Pokemon or not, and I could not give less of a shit about the story in these games due to how fucking pretentious and shittily written it and its characters are.
I personally liked USUM, and I guess that you won’t even read the rest of this and you’ll call me an idiot anyway. But here’s my reasoning: I kinda fell out of touch with Pokémon after being introduced to the games with gen 6 (which is why Fennekin is my favorite) and I just stopped caring about it for a while. Then USUM came out and I got it for my birthday and decided to play it. I put it down for a while, but I picked it up a year or so later. I instantly fell back in love with it, I loved how it had a decent story and characters with motives and emotions that you can understand, and now I can actually get any Pokémon I want from the GTS and the island scan (which I’ll admit was pretty dumb), and I could get Fennekin again. But then I get onto RU-vid, I watch some videos, and apparently everyone hates gen 6 and gen 7. They completely disregard the fact that gen 6 LITERALLY INTRODUCED 3D TO THE MAIN SERIES and try to forget about X and Y. I don’t really like that. Then people complained about the national dex not being in gen 7, which I guess I understand, but I’d rather catch like 200 Pokémon or something to get the shiny charm than I would to catch like 700 at that point. They complain about the cutscenes or some other crap, and I guess I understand that, but they were trying to put in more story, and I know I can’t defend everything, so don’t call me a fanboy or some crap that defends every move Game Freak or the Pokémon company makes when I’m willing to point out their mistakes too. Personally, I dislike gen 8, I don’t think SWSH should have been the big opening release for Pokémon, the game that would port it over to the Switch, a MASSIVE release, something that potential millions of people will buy only for it to be crap. The graphics look great (most of the time), sure, and the Pokémon look cool, but that’s about it. The story? What story? Anyway, I’m getting off-topic. I do some more digging and it turns out everyone hates Fennekin. And now nobody cares about my opinion and thinks I’m stupid for being ‘wrong’. Well I have nostalgia for gen 6 and I replayed it recently, and you know what? It wasn’t NEARLY as bad as people said it was. And that’s not just because of nostalgia. Sure, the graphics were pretty bad, but it was literally the first main series game to have 3D, so shut up and cut it some slack. It was also on the 3DS, a system not exactly known for it’s great graphics. I know this was a little ranty, but I wanted to get all this crap off my chest.
Honestly... Thank you for this. Gen 6 and 7 are my favorite gens because I grew up hearing lots about them (I just couldn't play because my mom refused to buy me a 3ds, I just got it a few months ago. 7 YEARS later) when I come to youtube and find some video saying gen 6 (which is rare seeing people say it is bad, I actually find a lot more people saying it is amazing), and gen 7 especially are bad, it breaks my heart. I barely talk about these games because people will say I'm wrong, I also dislike gen 8, but I think if I dare to say I liked gen 7 people will think I'm defending these games. I haven't played them yet which will probably make people say "ha you didn't even play them so you don't have the rights to share your opinion"... I just want to meet someone, somewhere, that likes gen 7 like me, but almost everywhere I go people complain about the cutscenes, Rotom Dex, ""bad"" story, etc. Am I wrong for liking these games? I liked Sun. Until I bought Ultra Sun and realized I spent money on the same game again. Only I get to fight 50 Team Rocket Grunts in the postgame. Woopie.
Well Idk about you, but looking back at it I feel like the reason I wasn't able to enjoy Ultra sun&moon were the original sun&moon all along. It's been 2.5 years since I played Moon and the only respect that stayed in me for those games is the "nostalgia", but I tried to replay them a few months ago and almost ended up selling them for like $6 at my local game dealership... If we didn't have the og empty soulless crap that sun and moon were I'd been able to enjoy the Ultra games, because that's what I ended up doing, almost 2 whole years after buying it I started another Ultra Moon playthrough and I seriously enjoyed the games. The new tutor moves made it easier to build working movesets, there were some new options for team building, and all those cosmetic changes not everyone probably cares about make it a more lively region. Everywhere you go there is a random sidequest, like those chicks with the coloured birbs on each island, or that time a Bewear invades the mall, sure the Ultra Reckon squad and their stupid Charm spamming Poipole was annoying, and overall the added story was mostly bs, but seriously no Pokémon game had good story before except probably Gen 5 for an extent, so I don't see the point finding issue in that. Ngl tho USUM aren't in my top 10 Pokémon games at all, because they aren't good *games*, though I was able to find enjoyment in it. Now I just wish Sun and Moon never happened, and they actually tried to make this game better from the start, fixing some of the scaling problems, like really those totems were annoying. Also I actually liked most of the music, I think a few were really memorable but there were some I liked (like the E4 theme, Poni Wilds, most of the remade evil leader battles, the kahuna battle theme, Guzma and Gladion's themes were pretty good too ngl) Also I hope you realized by now, but SoulSilver is actually an unbalanced and overrated broken piece of crap filled with pointless fanservice like Pokémon following you and the olympics, and I seriously envy those who are able to find geniuine enjoyment of it over age 12.
Every single main line Pokemon game is structured the exact same fucking way, while trying something different for once with island trials doesn’t immediately excuse its quality. I’ll take a couple wild Pokémon battle over going to the same “8 gyms” and the same “elite 4”
I got a hacked 3ds and I only got pokemon ultra sun(CIA) Just for those legendary pokemon. Now after seeing all of these reviews Im deciding If I should delete them or not.
I liked Pokemon Sun and Moon though. Had fun making rotational team using 45 pokemon in my walkthrough it was fun to explore , too much Kanto (*cough* *cough* , sequel does it override) yeap the cutscenes were annoying but, as compared to USUM it had great story and boss fight. USUM did nothing to improve it but, made SM pointless and insulted it. USUM are glorified DLC that's it. And worse they could have made Lusamine's husband be part of story given they did model him but nooooope. Atleast in anime Journeys they did something with him bruh
That will be my first game since ruby / sapphirie on GBA. Should I buy it? Yeah sure, OR/AS is probably better but again, i played these games last time i ever saw pokemon
Worst Generation I've played; it's just a tutorial game from start to finish. As for Gen VI, it's a missed opportunity because GF axed out the Battle Frontier in OR/AS and there's no third version for X/Y. Megas, super training and the feature where you can search for a certain Pokemon in OR/AS was cool though. I can't find one thing that's good about Gen VII because there was no heart or soul put in these games.
