In the Diamond and Pearl anime, commander Jupiter was played by Eileen Stevens. Who I think set the bar quite well. She did a pretty good job at capturing Jupiter’s determined and cool-headed, yet egotistical and spiteful personality.
I also like how Stevens distinguishes her voice from Iris and Lyra, her elegant and mysterious voice fits the character well. Overall, Eileen Stevens gives a solid performance as always.
In Pokemon The Arceus Chronicles special, Kira Buckland was recast as Jupiter, as Eileen Stevens was unavailable to reprise the role. Buckland’s take on Jupiter just felt off to me, the voice sounded too young, and her acting is too overplayed. It sounds like Buckland would make a better fit for Mars. It was a really jarring change from Stevens’ more reserved take. Overall, while Kira Buckland is giving a good performance, it feels like she was miscast or at least misdirected.
In Generations, it’s safe to say Jupiter was played by Cassandra Morris. While Morris got a bit more to work with than Mars’ actor, it’s not really enough to compare and to be honest, she also sounded too young for me. I don’t know if she would’ve worked with an extended role as the character.
In Evolutions, Jupiter appeared in the appropriately named episode “The Rival” which summed up her role, and was played by Suzie Yeung. Even with her limited material to work with, Yeung really made the most of it. The older voice was more fitting, and her performance also got Jupiter’s cool-headed and egotistical personality down well, and even sounding menacing at times. It’s unfortunate at the lack of material she had to work with, as Suzie Yeung showed a lot of promise here. If she were given a bigger shot at Jupiter, I think she would absolutely nail it. Overall, Yeung delivers a solid performance. I honestly think she is second behind Eileen Stevens.
In Masters, Jupiter is played by Brittany Cox. Her voice is fine, even though the choice of a valley girl accent is a little weird. Her performance, however, didn’t do much for me. She was really one note, and also had a similar problem to Kira Buckland, in that Cox made Jupiter sounds too similar to Mars. It’s not the worst take of a character I’ve heard from Masters EX, but Cox feels like a miscast here.
In terms of a definitive voice for Jupiter, I feel Eileen Stevens was really the only one to nail Jupiter. She got her personality down to a T, and I like her well-spoken voice more for the character. I have to give it to Eileen Stevens as the definitive voice for Jupiter!
