Both actors (from the anime and Masters) work well for commander Mars’ bratty, immature and hot-headed personality.
In the anime and Arceus Chronicles, Mars is played by Lisa Ortiz. While her voice is very recognisable, hearing Ortiz get to play a villain is a refreshing change of pace for her. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Her youthful voice fits Mars like a glove, and she gives a solid performance overall.
In Generations, Mars’ actor it seems will remain a mystery. It’s hard to judge a voice or a performance on one line, but I can’t say she did badly with her awe-inspired delivery.
In Masters, Mars is played by Christie Cate. I like the line delivery on some of her lines, and her valley girl vocal choice is an interesting one. One issue I have with her however is that her voice is a bit too deep in pitch for me. Overall, Cate still delivers a good performance.
I personally prefer Ortiz’s voice: her cutesy, high-pitched voice just fits the character more for me. So I have to give it to Lisa Ortiz as the definitive voice for Mars.
