@@draco4450 It's less about BST, and more about min-maxing. Archeops has 140 base attack and 110 speed. For reference, Slaking has 160 base Attack and 100 base speed. So while Archeops is BST might be lower, the stats that actually matter aren't that much lower than Slaking's stats. Particularly if you gave it the ability to set up, which is exactly what Defeatist is trying to punish.
Klutz actually is kinda useful in the right situation. Slap an assault vest on a klutz and then have them use trick to put it on your opponent’s setup pokemon and you basically remove an entire member from their team
The problem with this is that you need a faster Pokémon than the high-speed setup Pokémon (good luck against Prankster) just to shut down an already disposable member of their team while using up your own item, ability and move slot. When the move Haze exists.
Because Archeops is bloody terrifying. Seriously in Gen 5 Flying Gem boosted Acrobatics coming off a 140 base attack was one of the scariest things around. Not to mention it having a base speed of 110 meant whilst it wasn't outspeeding everything, it was outspeeding most of the game (only 45 other pokemon including itself that have a chance of being faster then it). The only thing holding it back IS it's ability.
I was thinking the same. Clearly someone didn't do their research properly. Just looking at Archeops' stats alone would tell you why it needs Defeatist.
Lopunny learns switcheroo as an egg move. So it can hold a lagging tail with no drawbacks and swap it to your Pokemon without having to worry if yours is holding a choice item that would otherwise lock lopunny into switcheroo. So if used right, it's ability can actually be pretty dope
@@witchhatter Oh damn the auto-status items just don't work with that ability? That's kinda neat "If you hold this item you get poisoned" Lopunny: "No. I don't think i will"
@akapanda5962 it also works for item with negative effects. Lagging tail that would normally make you go second wouldnt because of klutz. If you have an item thats a hindrance and use switcharoo you can steal the enemies good item and give them your bad one. Make sense?
@@SapphicFireGameswhile that is true, it's just not that useful on Sableye. Sableye just isn't a offensive pokemon and its so frail that it'll usually get ko'd before it gets a chance to use payback. It doesn't matter how strong payback is if the pokemon using it doesn't have the stats to make it worth while.
Archeops has defeatist because he has 140 attack and 110 speed. In game he probably just outspeeds and one-shots everything. His total stats are 567 vs the 495 of Carracosta, who also has a 4x weakness to grass
Also with stats like that, you're not gonna be falling under 50% hp anytime soon using it unless you're intentionally using it against something it has no super effective moves and is weak too. Pvp is another matter, but who actually cares about competitive pokemon other than people who are paid to care about it.
You forgot to mention, Run Away. They legit could have said: Makes the mon immune to trapping moves/abilities, pokemon can switch out etc. In the end we got: Does nothing in a trainer battle.
The worst part about this, is that's actually exactly how the ability works in super mystery dungeon/rescue Team DX (immunity to being stuck in place by mean look, arena trap, ect)
@@ElectricityRaichuroost forces a flying pokemon to land to heal but become vulnerable to ground type moves. Levitate...well....make them levitate and negates the roost side effect.
You guys aren’t understanding. Archeops has the Defeatist ability because it has a whopping base stat total of 567, the second highest of all non legendary and non pseudo legendary Pokémon, only behind Slaking. If it wasn’t nerfed, then it would be very op for play throughs.
@@safferstihl5502I.e. Klutz. Moves that swap items allow you to give the target what is intended to either be a beneficial (if the target is an ally) or disadvantageous (if the target is an enemy) item can be used without fear of Choice Item locking the user into the move used. It would be more useful on a 'mon with a move that swaps skills with the target. Slaking would stop being lazy, Regigigas would start faster, Archeops stays strong at low HP, Pecharunt gets nerfed...
You could get real cheesy with Klutz, but it’d be pretty situational. For example, put on an Iron Ball and Swticheroo it to another fast Pokémon or give a bulky Pokémon Black Sludge, and you can cripple it real good. Good thing the Mega exists to make Lopunny damn good, because base form is pretty bad (unfortunately), especially with Klutz
One of the good things about Klutz is that you could use some kind of item switching to give a useless item (which they don’t know you’d have since it wouldn’t do anything) and take their good item.
@@firephoenix12 3-5, but yes. (Sableye and abilities didn't exist before 3) The only exception was Fire Fang, due to a programming glitch involving TMs.
Sableye has been used to win in a lot of competitive matches with mega evolution. Too bad they removed the mega evos, cause he was really good with the stall ability. It depends on how you use him.
Keen eye is good... it's just that Bloodmoon Ursaluna's ability "Mind's eye" is a better ability that kind of mimics it with a twist. Having the inability to have accuracy dropped, ignoring evasive stats of opponents, and having ghost types be hit by fighting and normal moves without the use of a move like Odor Sleuth or foresight is extremely useful... at least it is only on one singular pokemon at the moment, which can only be found in the Teal Mask DLC so far. (Trickster is sableye's hidden ability)
Bruh klutz is so good with Lopunny if you have entrainment having trouble with mega kangaskan? Bam it no longer has its ability. Fast Pokémon with choice scarf? Bam it can’t use it anymore.
It makes it so the USER can't use held items, not the opponent. They can still use held items, so you'd still have to deal with Mega Kangaskhan and Choice Scarves.
@thelastpringleinthecan8040 it doesn't hamper it, no, but it is literally useless. The point of Light Metal being halving your weight to reduce damage taken from weight-dependant moves like Grass Knot or Low Kick, which is already a very niche ability. Problem is that Metagross is so heavy that even with the ability, it still falls into the maximum weight category for those moves (which is 400 lbs+ for 120 BP), meaning that the ability does literally nothing.
Yup. Hate that hidden ability, Clear Body is very helpful but I wish there’s more variety I could get with Metagross in terms of Abilities but nope Clear Body is the only good Ability it gets and it’s better to have an ability that is convenient vs one that does nothing. -sigh- Here’s hoping that Metagross will be on the list of Pokémon getting an upgrade in the next SV DLC. Like Empoleon and Shiftry did in the last one.
Stall can be put to good use if you teach Payback to Sableye. And if you teach Endeavor to Archeops, then it can still deal a lot of damage when its HP is low despite its attack being lowered by Defeatist.
I think they gave Archeops Defeatist because it's stats are way higher than other fossil Pokémon. When Archeops was released, all other fossils had a BST of 490 (except Aerodactyl who had 515) and Archeops had 567. It's a fun nod both to its Pokédex number and the Dewey decimal system, but made Archeops way more powerful than the other fossils so they gave it Defeatist to compensate. I dunno why, in the generation that added Hidden Abilities, they didn't just give it a normal Hidden Ability so it could be useful post-game without being broken in the story mode, but yea it had to be nerfed to not completely outclass all the other Fossils
Sableye just has 2 Polar opposite abilities, Prankster which effectively lets it always move first with its status moves (im looking at Prankster Gravity Hypnosis doubles teams) and then Stall which is just go last.
Klutz could be used with a choice band where an opponent has frisk as an ability. Then when they switch you change moves. So very very siutational though
Idk why but I'm imagining a braindead loppuny just hopping around like an idiot while you desperately throw berry after berry at it hoping it'll eat one 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Klutz does have some use. It can negate the effects of a detrimental held item while you wait for the right opportunity to use Trick and swap items with the opponent.
Slaking having Truant is still kinda understandable but Regigigas getting Slow Start is just BS in my opinion, I understand that maybe the reason it has Slow Start is because it "wakes up" after a long slumber in Diamond and Platinum but that same logic can be applied to Kyogre and Groudon, they also "wake up" from a slumber so in that sense both of them should have also gotten Slow Start as their ability. They literally did my boy Regigigas dirty, there was literally no reason to "balance" out Regigigas by giving it a trash ability when Pokemon like Mewtwo and Raquaza existed before Regigigas.
Yeah it happens quite a few times on their takes, this person as well as that other RU-vidr that has an avatar who wears red and blue headphones. I keep forgetting his name, but it is the PokeTuber that makes a bunch of shorts that always have random clips of his waifu, the girl from Pokemon Black and White. Most of the time if their take is on coloration or design then it usually remains with the general consensus. Anything Pokemon fighting mechanic related and you get about a 1/3 chance of something that makes sense.
power creep be power creeping, but back in the day Archeops absolutely NEEDED to be nerfed. it was blazingly fast and it's attack stat was one of the highest in OU. Banded or Scarfed this thing was a major threat and check for basically anything out on the field, and it specialized in revenge kills, because anything below full HP was probably going to die from a Banded Earthquake, Rock Slide, Dragon Claw, Steel Wing, etc. Archeops was an absolute beast and Defeatist kept it in check
Okay but imagine someone has a pokemon for hazard setup and you use Klutz and trick making them have something like an assault vest, no more hazard and you can trick the item you got onto their next pokemon. It's niche but it can work in the right situation
I can think of good reasons for useless abilities. I got to work on solving more difficult and impossible problems that appear. Cause thats all thats going to to be left to cure.
Klutz is useless that’s why Lopunny learns Entrainment on Level Up in almost every game so you can weaponize it! XD Switcheroo is also a good reason too.
I will say, Klutz led to a hillarious moment in competitive when a Lopunny Switcheroo'd an Assault Vest onto a cleric Blissey, leaving it doomed to Struggle.
Klutz actually *can be* good under very specific circumstances. A Pokémon with Klutz, a bad held item, (Sticky Barb, Ring Target, Black Sludge, Lagging Tail/Iron Ball), and the move Trick/Switcheroo can cripple the opponent by removing their precious Choice item or Berry or whatever else, and the Pokémon with Klutz won't get locked into Trick if they pick a Choice Item or out of their status moves with Vest.
Klutz prevents sticky barb, so when your opponent thinks swapping items would be a troll move, it backfires on them, you could also use it as fling material
Lopunny in general is a pretty underrated mon. So long as its IVs and EVs aren't both totally shot to heck, it can actually be a good Garchomp killer in Platinum.
All of these abilities have uses, cluts makes sure another player locks you into using a certain move with a choice item, archeops has a bst of 567 with huge attack, which makes it way too strong and the sableye one makes it that you don’t have to use a lagging tail and you can use another item
Klutz Lopunny is used to put an Assault Vest on your opponent's Supporter with Trick/Switcheroo (whichever the line learns) effectively sealing that mon away
Sableye’s ability would be really cool if he had a signature attack that did bonus damage/special effect if used after an opponent. Or it’d be even cooler to do something like extra special effect if you attack after an opponent who also has a slower speed stat than you.
Klutz is a good counter to switcheroo strategies. Now you can't get stuck with a choice item during your status move setups. Makes me wonder if you can pair this with fling to keep the steel ball from slowing them down.
Klutz is good for running no item and using it as a defense against trick or putting on an assault vest to prevent support mons from using moves. Some pokemon can't use full use of klutz in singles but in doubles and OM it's actually pretty good
Stall Mirror Move or Counter, Encore, Substitute+Toxic or Leech Seed/Recover , etc. There are a lot of moves that work better going second (Not saying Sableye learns all of these but the interactions of Stall has a large amount of potential)
One ability I find funny is Limber on Stunfisk. It only worked in gen 5, to stop what, 5 moves from paralysing it? And then gen 6 made electric types immune to paralysis so now it's literally useless on it.
Here’s a really funny one rotom fan and its ability levitate. Its ability just makes it immune to ground type attacks, when its typing already does that exact same thing
Klutz lopunny can be used for some neat gimmick sets specifically destroying walls. You usually run a full utility set with trick and give lopunny a choice item
Stall typically plays a role in gimmick strats to either switch it to the opponent or to make sure your moves would always play second in certain matchups, still a bad ability but I can think of worse ones
Klutz has a niche use of not getting hurt by detrimental items and allowing them to use trick, also there's a use for sableyes ability since it means you can lag tail without using an item slot
Gamefreak: let's give Slaking and Regigigas hindering abilities to *balance* them out Also Gamefreak: let's give chien-pao ridiculous attack and an ability that reduces their opponent's defence
Bruh, in a playthrough of gen 5, give archeops acrobatics, and if the opposing pokemon doesn't resist, it's dying. Archeops was literally my mvp of my first gen 5 playthrough. Give it a flying gem for that sure ohko.
Klutz is lowkey great ability, cuz you can give someone ring target to mess em up, or take their assault west to mess em up And stall is great cuz sableye learns steel burst, a counter move that has no lowered priority, but works as counter and mirror coat combined
Even if they didn't have an ability, regigigas and slaking are balanced when compared to zacian and miraidon considering that their stab moves aren't super effective against anything.
