The way the bard works, is that it only allows you to change one word of his song. The idea is that you would connect with other players, use the mix records feature, and trade your “old man” npc with your friends, who would then go on and change another word of the song, and so on. The default song they always start with is “sister eats sweets voracious and drooling”.
Yeah, that's the fastest way as they're the only trainers with level 60+ Pokemon. They're also the go-to training method for getting stuff like Dragonite or Tyranitar.
@@zoroarklover363 a friend of mine used to cheese it in Sapphire by leaving the up button pressed while trying to climb a slope with the bike. Then he'd leave the GBA running all night like that.
For the "met location changing from Celadon to Celadon department store", my theory is that the "met location" thing is just a pointer to the location string/value for Celadon city, and it must just be a quirk of how they chose to display your current location for the Celadon department store. Like when you enter the store, it changes the name of the actual location in the code from Celadon city, to Celadon department store, and then when you leave, it changes the location's name back, instead of having a brand new location for the department store. That way you have one variable and it just changes its value/text whenever you enter/exit the building. Probably to save on memory.
I cant believe Pat didnt knew about Poke Dolls on gen 2... Your mother could buy you some items when you let her "save" you some money... Yes, she spends your money she said she would save for you with items you probably didnt wanted. And some of those items were pokedolls: some really rare, like that Onyx or a giant Snorlax, those were sooooo cool
I would also like to point out another sprite oddity: in Platinum, when you enter a contest, the Pokemon will use their Diamond and Pearl sprites instead of their Platinum sprites
@@IAmMissingnoMaster Could be! I thought they reverted back to their platinum sprites at some point, probably at the end results, but if that’s the case that would also make sense since the contest is technically over
I love how Pat never skips the sponsors of videos like other reactors do. In my opinion if you are gonna react to someone's video the least you could do is keep their sponsor in the video so people can use their code
@@JonhTheGamer ? They put a lot of work into a video and people using the sponsor is how they get money for their hard work if someone comes along and makes a reaction that takes less than 30 minutes to record which some people will watch instead of the original video and they don't even show the sponsor the person who actually put effort into the video is getting nothing for their hard work ofc you need to keep the sponsor
For me it's a hit and miss, and most products they do sponser are ones I have no interest in taking, downloading, or using at all. Even if I had huge sums of money, I still wouldn't buy it, not because of support, but because it's just not worth using it as a service that I would use in my every day life. Food and beverages would be the way to go compared to, whatever they get sponsored by, but kudos to the creators for making the content as usual.
I wonder if the Celadon City/Dept thing is a matter of the store having a different name but the same map ID, so when the game goes to check what the name of that map ID is anywhere else it gets the city, but in the store it gets the store
Yup, that's definitely it. It's to save on memory, having one variable for 2 locations instead of 2 variables = less memory usage. Memory was super hard to come by back then so they had to optimize wherever they could.
15:49 I like to imagine now that your player character is the one playing the music in Cynthia's battle. Just pulls out a keyboard and goes ham while battling her.
16:06 I was kinda confused why Patterz call the player Lucas, I forgot the player's name is Lucas I'd been reading the Pokemon Adventures/Special manga and been calling them by their manga name which is Lucas name in the manga is "Diamond"
Yup, crashes when you lose. The games are designed to send you back to the last Pokémon Center (or your home in this case) you visit. The games don't actually check for that though until you actually get a Pokémon, since you can't white out with no Pokemon to start a battle with. And the Starter Pokemon aren't considered obtained until after the fight, so it wont flag your home until the battle is over. Since a location hasn't been flagged yet, it has nowhere to send you. So the white out it permanent.
So with fact number 6, I had a theory that maybe the Department store and the city itself shared coding for the name, rather than the store acting as it's own location. Meaning that when you enter the department store its actually just changing the name of the city rather than giving it a new name entirely. I have no idea WHY this would be the case and its incredibly stupid sounding. But its the only explanation I can think of.
I had the same idea and my theory is that it's a way to save on memory. Back then memory was hard to come by so any way they could reduce the amount of variables taking up space, they took it. So it only has to have one variable, and it just changes name when you enter/exit the door. Pretty smart imo.
14:30 I am studying Sql programming and while I definitely know next to nothing, it is common to use tables with reference id's for various things. My current hunch is that celedon city and celedon department store somehow overwrite each other on the reference table. Let's assume each location is on a table and that table assigns each location a unique number. Celedon city would be some number. Well just say for now it is #17 on this hypothetical table. The code for saying where the Pokémon hatched would have the text that it was hatched in #17, which calls the table, sees the value for #17, and writes "Celedon City". Now when the player enters the department store, what is possibly happening is that #17 no longer points to Celdon City, but Celedon Department Store. This could be because there is another table is being used that has this discrepancy or that entering the store somehow overwrites that table somehow with the new location When leaving the store whatever is happening is reverted. This theory is my best guess.
Actually you can still get celebi in gen 3 today, in Japan instead of jirachi for the colosseum bonus disc you get a celebi that you can only put in after beating ruby or sapphire
My best guess for the Met Location Anomaly is that the Department Store is considered the same location as the City and the game just switches out the name when you enter or leave the store.
On the note of different sprites, Colosseum/XD:GoD have some totally unique shinies sprites that don't match their Gen 2 or Gen 4 and later counterparts. Yellow Scizor is a regularly shared one but there's a fair few more, there are compilations on RU-vid if you're curious, also for some reason in those games every Unown Letter has their own animations in battle another interesting compilation to check out.
Honestly, my favorite of the old guys in gen 3 is Giddy who tells you stories that are just yes or no questions and I still remember one of them being "Toys is so magical"
I only encountered the bard once in my very first play. Then some years later I talked to the guy and he never made a sound which confused me. So it's interesting to learn why.
The safari zone fail safe is easy to build tbh they made a clone code with a condition if the players talks to safari counter npc they'll trigger a meet condition (if) the true condition which will take you to default safari zone encounter matches but if a players does something that's not intended for the game play like walk through cheat then game will coordinate with (else) non meetable criteria which will trigger the clone code class and make player encounter only Rattata. When you understand the basis of codes and programs you can get real creative without putting alot of effort lol
I have a pretty solid theory for why the Celadon City met location name changes. My guess is that the text "CELADON CITY" in the met location is being taken from the name corresponding to that location ID, and you'll notice that the location banner changes to "CELADON DEPT." with some floor number when you enter the department store, which probably means that Celadon City's internal name is being temporarily changed to CELADON DEPT, which is then reflected in the met location of any pokemon met in Celadon City period, no matter where in the city including the department store itself.
Had the same idea, pretty sure it's to save memory, 1 variable takes up less space than two. Pretty simple/smart optimization imo, just leads to a neat little quirk with the met location.
In dppt with walk through wall, you can walk down the right side of the League and go to the shamiyn route instead of going through the cave. Also you can just walk over to the grass patch and get to shaymin without the event item.
I grinded that entire Villa in Pokemon platinum as a teen cause I thought it was the coolest thing ever that you got your own place to deck out Lots of fun Easter eggs in it
As a kid who had multiple level 100s and would just plow through the elite four to grind money for items I don't see 200 or so wins as that much. If you just do the overleveled starter method you should be good
I got to a little over 100 elite 4 wins before i reset my game it was the way i would level up my pokemon to lv 100 so i can see people getting to 200 back in the day
I definitely never maxed out the plushies in gen 3 but i got a lot of them working on a living dex back in the day just because the E4 was the best way to grind levels
@@Marcotheoctoling not until gen 8. A Shiinotic while looking for an impidimp. Literally the first random one I'd seen since gen 2 which was an aipom that ran
Yeah, you could trade Teddiursa to FireRed/LeafGreen. Hell, you don't even have to get it from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, since one of the Shadow pokemon you can get in Gale of Darkness is a Teddiursa.
To this day im so confused about a glitch i experienced no one talks about In pokemon black/white there's an npc that gives you damp stone, heat stone etc.. and it depends on the weather as what item she gives you. And ONE time, she gave me i think it was the heat stone, and she started speaking in glitch symbols. You know, the symbols commonly most seen when a game glitches out or a cheat is used and it breaks the game. But i had it on a legit copy, as a kid, who just got it for Christmas And ive never heard anyone talk about this one npc who gives away pointless items with glitchy text
Wondering what would happen if you enter the safari zone than walk through walls to go out, can you encounter other mons? Are they treated like safari encounters? 👀
8 year old me 😳 Had all of Loreli's plushes. Didn't know it was connected. Just thought she added them every so often the longer you played. I did a lot of actual RP and enjoying and visiting spots on the Sevi Islands and other cool places. Picking new teams or mons to raise and quickest level grinding for me was the elite 4 Step brother RIP was super jealous of my level 100 mons in the GBA games. He bought a game shark and finally beat my Blaziken after leveling his Swampert to level 80. Dude. I know it seems cool but i see you once a month. I'm actually neglected by my mother. I got a lot of time. 😂 I'm lucky my father spent money on me. He took back many toys etc because he needed the money back.
