Aah, no! If Poland, or perhaps NATO, belive they are strong enough military, and does something stupid like go into the Ukrane. Then Poland first, than perhaps the European part of NATO, are the new proxies. Poland has been the key for escalation. But I think they know to avoid this. If not,... well we all know it can go really badly!
@@larsnystrom6698 NATO doesn't have to go into Ukraine. It just has to ramp up its support. And "escalation"? Compared to what? A full scale invasion of a sovereign nation?
Nato with Russia they picked a giant more than their size hence 32 Nato countries combined are being single hadedly being humiliated in ukraine as Russia is not Iraq or Lebanon.
@@HarwardMbonxa you are very wrong. russia cant even take ukraine. it will be gone in a year if it really makes the mistake of stepping forward. I give you 2 more years before your economy collapses and you get a military coup in russia
Poland is perhaps one of the smartest NATO countries. They were the first to assist Ukrainian refugees and supply Ukraine with additional supplies. Well played Poland, well played. Much love from Australia.
I agree poland is one of the only countries to accurately identify the russian threat. Here in germany people are unsure if russia is even a threat and they want to get buddy buddy with them while russia is threatening to nuke us every month. They still do propaganda where they depict germans as evil nazis. And looking at what they're doing to "ukrainian nazis" the stuff they'd do to us given the chance is beyond cruel. Its demonic. It'd rival what the actual nazis did to the soviets and poles in WW2. It's so frustrating being seemingly the only one to see that coming. I am proud of the poles they recognize whats going on. I wish our government was more like the polish one...
@@AxesADB It's a bot no doubt. First name, last name, random number. Also I think any Pole that's capable of any sort of common sense wouldn't support this. It's the worst kind of source because they pretend to give you a fair and balanced perspective when it's actually extremely one-sided with all facts that don't support their narrative conveniently left out.
@@AxesADB I do not think that is what Greg is saying at all. Poland knows what happens when they are militarily weak. That money is being spent to make sure that the past doesn't repeat itself. That said, if Russia provokes Poland, I don't think Poland is going to pull its punches.
I wish we as Poland's westerly neighbors were as serious in preparing for the future. My Polish Brothers, much admiration from a simple German (former) combat medic!
It will take us Germans several years to gain military strength again. After the end of the Soviet Union we thought there would be a considerable peace dividend and we neglected our armed forces. Our eastern neighbours warned us about ruzzia, but we were to arrogant to listen to them. Now we have a "Zeitenwende". Hope it's not to late.
people forget that to have peace you must be ready to enforce it. If you dont want to be invaded you have to make yourself nasty enough that no one in their right mind will take a bite.
Poland knows Russia will continue to be stubborn. Poland knows Russia will remain a threat even if a peace treaty were to be signed. Poland also knows the only language that Russia understands.
@@radek888 Exactly. It's not Middle Ages or 19th century anymore. Several countries have their investments in Poland, there are various multinational companies in PL. Also don't forget US military personel stationed in Poland. The West doesn't really have much choice but to not let Poland fall because otherwise, the losses will be huge, and the perspective of bordering a Russian-controlled territory with army on border and nuclear missiles targeted at Paris and Berlin would be terrifying.

It is funny how some people like to think these countries are allies to Poland just because we share similar conservative values or cultural aspects in Eastern half of Europe. I am sorry, but Russia is red line for us. Not gonna bend over this.
Around 6 million Polish citizens perished during World War II: about one fifth of the entire pre-war population of Poland. Most were civilian victims of war crimes and crimes against humanity which Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union committed during their occupation of Poland.

What "european texas"? Our treacherous authorities keep us (the people) disarmed. But if every Pole was armed, had a gun and could use it to defend himself and his home, there would not be treacherous politicians anymore.
In the Netherlands, general Stanisław Sosabowski and his 1st Polish independent paratroops brigade are still remembered. We just commemorated the 85th anniversary of that event. They were heroes during Operation Market Garden, fought in extremely difficult circumstances in their attempt to liberate Arnhem from nazi Germany and ultimately failed due to allied intelligence blunders and chaos in the operations overarching command. Then they were scapegoated by the British for the whole ordeal because the general had dared to criticize the allied plans before the operation commenced and of course, because they weren't brits. I totally agree with you. I was absolutely disgusted at the abuse directed at Polish immigrants around the time of Brexit by so many British people. Including some of my own family sadly. So many people will believe any old garbage they read in the gutter press. Absolutely disgraceful!
I was working with Russians when the Berlin wall fell. I was hoping that this could be a new era of co-operation and peace. No more cold war. Communication and mutual interests. Many Russians I spoke to had a cargo cult mentality as to the changes, in that all goods were to fall from above without effort. (Personal responsibility is not strong there.) One Russian took me aside and said that the West will put the wall back up once they realise what Russia is about. I scoffed at his comments at the time. I now owe him an apology.

Having seen how poland have developed over the last 30 years, it's one of the most impressive comebacks in history. Smashed an terrorized by soviet and germany, and now they are totally on top of that and getting super strong defense to not end up at the bottom again! 100% Respect to Poland!
It should be obvious: What is more costly, invest 4% of GDP, show of force and avoid being invaded, or to repel the enemy that is bombarding your country, your infrastructure and industry and leveling to the ground every small city it encounters?
EU has awaken, but barely, it is still day dreaming of fairies and unicorns, diplomacy, multiculturalism and commerce. If they are so slow to build up their military, the least they could do is to forward 1% of their unified GDP to the ones actually doing the fight and saving them the ugliness of war
That will not happen. Who doesnt border russia doesnt feel the iminent threat that polish feel. All EU should finance the border safety and not only the ones with russian belarus border. Its all about perception. A lot of EU citizens dont care about ukraine because its far away.
Proud to be alongside Poland. This sounds like how much power we had in Sweden in the 80s even though we were neutral. Wish Sweden kept that power. We are aiming for 2.4 percent of GDP in 2025 but its half of Poland. Great work Poland!

Our air force is small even though we have great technology.
@@Yuushiboy Unfortunately you also have a sizable enemy fifth column within your borders that constitutes a serious threat to both your own country and your neighbors. Another result of absolute insane and catastrophic policies from your leaders over many decades.
Countries in NATO have their own specialties. Poland's specialty is land army, that's why they're going so hard on that. Besides, it is what Poland would need in case of invasion firsthand, and which cannot be possibly deployed in time from other countries. I wouldn't put current border fences in "military defense" category. Poland and Baltic countries built it for a very specific reason - hybrid attacks from Belarus, which uses migrants as a weapon. Which is, in my opinion, not exactly the military type of activity. The new project is military-oriented though. But Poland is, probably, the most responsible NATO country in relation to Russian threat - it is a fact.
@@JG-nm9zk Bunkers and tank traps are military installations here. The walls could be incorporated in defense system, but by itself - it barely protects from non-organised migrants, and quite often they are able to breach it. For any somewhat professional army with engineering department it is not an obstacle. So I still disagree that that wall is military installation. Border control one - yes.
You forgot about another Polish specialty - special operations - we sent the fourth biggest contingent of SOF to Afghanistan - our operators were pretty successful over there ;-)
Naval forces are speciality of Sweden and Finland and Baltic Sea NATO naval dominance will depend on those countries for fist few weeks of the potential conflict. Poland neglected naval forces for long time so there is no choice as building naval forces is slowest from them all.

In Poland it is not called "National Interest" but "The reason of State" and it is above all parties and political views, there is no party in Poland that would do anything against "The Reason of State". In theory, they can fight politically but they will do what is best for the state after they are in charge. In terms of Polish views about Russia, Ukraine etc. Nothing will change this, Poland will be supporting Ukraine and preparing for war until Russia is weak enough to not attack. By the way what kind of freedom is that where some psychopath controls your whole life. You might want to think better about that. I recommend reading the book "Letters from Russia. Russia in 1839.” Author: Astolphe de Custine wrote, for example: 'This society of automats/robots is like half a game of chess, because one man moves all the pieces, and the invisible opponent is humanity. Everyone here moves and breathes only with the emperor's permission or at his command, so everyone is gloomy and restrained: silence presides over life and paralyzes it." Almost 200 years have passed, and russia and russians are still the same. Nothing has changed we all can see.
Do you all remember after World War II when the Soviets conquered a bunch of countries in order to create a barrier for themselves because of the flat terrain? I think it might be in Poland's best interest if they took some Russian territory and turned it into a buffer zone.
I can say we do not want war, but to stay safe and scare the imperialistic honorless russia Poland has to arm itself. Too much pain and betreyal in our history.
Poland is on the right track. I remember an ex-military Aussie soldier tell me that no war is ever won without putting boots on the ground - and the US in Vietnam is an exemplar.
We are not preparing for war against Russia. We are preparing for defend ourself if anyone wants to attack us. Our grandparents fight for independence and sacrifice their life for us. We are not let this sacrifice fade away.
Poland has the right idea. Ukraine has proven that Ground to Air equipped infantry is the best way to keep Russian air superiority at bay. Why invest heavily in air and unmanned when you can cheaply stall an invasion till you get aide from the rest of NATO. This is not necessarily relevant to all powers, like US forces or Chinese forces looking to take Taiwan, but if you are in a defensive war, those planes dont help you that much into Russia.
AFAIK, one of the reasons F35 were chosen is that: 1. Starting from Poland, they can reach Moscow (both in terms of fuel and avoiding Russian air defense). 2. They can carry nuclear bombs. Of course I doubt buying these bombs from the US will be easy. But the point is that Russians can't be sure if and when Poland has them and therefore it works fairly well as a deterrent.
The Mongols were barely out of the stone age. Look at all the problems they made for their neighbours. And Iran? Under sanction for 45 years. An economy in shambles. And still exporting misery.
Even if Russia is gone, there will still be china, and if china is Gone or weakend, the whole world would suffer, and there wouldn't be a reason for NATO to exist, so that's why they have to have enemies.
But that's not necessarily Polands job. Finland, the Baltics, Poland and yes Ukraine do man the walls to Orkiztan. Because if they do not, the war will be fought on their turf. Sweden secures the baltic sea and air, while Germany keeps the bread, butter and other supplies coming. Air support and drones can easily and quickly be deployed from countries further to the west. It just makes sense to have such a tiered system. It might not be that way now, but you can bet on it, this is what we'll see soon.
As far as I can tell, a verb "to threaten" has a little bit different meaning. When you see someone is crazy and tries to kill someone, you normally take at least a stick to protect yourself. It is not you a real threat in this case.
most russian nukes are worthless dropbombs i remember its around 4000 dropbombs. Those will hit nothing. Russia cant even fly over ukraine! The rest ist doable by germany alone, i think poland with a little help of germany can stop russia too!
From the point of view of history, Poland has had about 20 wars with Russia, so it is not a question of whether Poland will have a war with Russia, but when this war will take place or in what form.
Amazingly smart that Poland started this effort in 2020 against the tide of the pandemic and ahead of the invasion. I doubt they regret that move. All the same, I think we are more apt to see a "Soviet collapse 2.0" than a Ukraine 2.0. Having said that, if there IS to be a Ukraine 2.0, it won't be in Poland with that many Patriot batteries on order and NATO at their back.
I support the strengthening of Poland's military, but the wall is a bad idea. Mark my words, that wall will slow down the Polish army's advancements to Moscow.
Good on Poland, but let's hope they remember that all those fancy weapons systems need a substantial store of ammo, and the means to feed with a constant flow to resupply them on the front line.
