Poland to make New K2PL tanks based on 120mm K2 Black Panther 

Poland wants what S Korea wants thus Poland should ask S Korea to replace deadbeat Indonesia in KF21 fighter program. Poland is also NATO country thus there is less headache dealing with using American parts. Cost of operation is half of F35 and able to control UAV for 6th generation warfare. S Korea is #1 in IT and electronic industry thus able to produce high quality AESA radars which able to defeat Russian and Chinese radars. Poland already has all the basics for maintaining their own aircraft thus just need training and machines from S Korea which will able to help other NATO countries equipped with S Korean weapons.

Poland should able to make S Korean weapons in Poland with license. S Korea is largest foreign investor in Poland thus it's S Korea's interest that Poland has strong defense capabilities to protect itself.

Price : Price of K-2 is 2/3 of Leopard and better ability than Leopard. Good thing is Korea will hand down technique of K-2 to The Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ SA) , licence production in Poland. PGZ and Korean companies will sell K-2 , K-9, and AS-21 to EU countries together. Poland will be the production base of those. Win-Win for both Countries.

During Leopard 2 and K2 Black Panther test in Norway, K2 tank with S Korean tungsten round was able to penetrate 800mm armor compare to 630mm armor with German tungsten round for Leopard 2. This is kinetic energy penetration thus K2 will be able to penetrate new Russian T90 with Kontackt 5 reactive armor with 800mm kinetic armor protection from over 2km away.

A win for Norway too. Now, the Koreans can have Poland supply spare parts to Norway.

Yesterday Poland decided to import 1000 K2 tanks from South Korea.

K2 PL will be modified with: - ammunition completely separated from the crew. The ammunition in the hull will be in 2 magazines with exhaust flaps - reinforced side armor and probably the front armor as in the Norwegian version - hard kill system most likely Korean system - Polish optoelectonic systems - Polish communication systems As much is known as of August 10, 2022

Good for Poland. Good for south Korea. Maybe Germany should have kept its tanks in top running condition. Maybe they would have had better press from Deutsche Welt.

The quality of both tanks is same but the Leopard is very expensive than K2 (50% of the Leopard's cost).

K2 is a really great tank but KAPS is the only one major problem. I am a great supporter of Polish-Korean cooperation in the construction of new weapons. I think the polish version of the K2 - the K2PL MBT can be a great tank, as good as the famous - Abrams, Leopard or Leclerc, maybe even better than them. I'm really happy but ... There is one major problem - KAPS APS. KAPS is not accepted abroad because it is prone to friendly fire. An official from Hyundai Rotem is on record saying that the KAPS model developed by the National Research Institute was made exclusively for largescale all-out use. Therefore, it is a model that cannot meet the current tank export market, which is sensitive to human casualties. Another reason is that the KAPS APS radar cannot detect incoming if the tank operates jammers. In particular, it was found that when a smoke grenade is used during manoeuvring, the radar of KAPS could not detect the enemy’s anti-tank missile or RPG rocket, making it impossible to use the two systems together. And once more - the cost of the Korean KAPS and for example - much better israeli Trophy system is roughly the same, about $1 million. Therefore, the Polish defense minister should not choose the Korean APS. The Norwegians also chose the APS Trophy... Kind Regards - Stan

If the tanks are build in korea then it's a bad deal imo. If it's build in poland under korean license then it's good deal for Poland.

I don't like the idea, that we will have Leopards, Abrams and K2 tanks. Including PT91 Twardys, this will make us having 4 various MBTs.

isnt this stupid for Poland to have so many different types of MBTs? Leopard, Abrams, AND K2? wtf? cant they just focus on one type? I mean i know they cant get more Leopards, but then why not more Abrams if they already want to buy 250 of them anyway?

In March 2012, the South Korean Defense Development Agency said it had created an active protection system for armored vehicles. KAPS is a complex system that includes a three-coordinate radar station, infrared sensors, a computer system and an anti-missile launcher. The primary purpose is to detect incoming projectiles and guided anti-tank missiles at a distance of approximately 150 meters. After acquiring the enemy projectile, KAPS launches an interceptor missile that explodes at 7 to 22 meters from the target and knocks the incoming off course. The active protection system (APS) takes about 0.2 - 0.3 seconds to launch once the incoming is detected. The armament of the APS includes 70-millimeter anti-missiles, which travel at a speed of 2.3 thousand kilometers per hour or about two Machs.
