Getting ready to snow check either a ‘25 Assault or XC, so appreciate the video. If you’re more of a 50/50 on-off trail rider would it make more sense to get XC with Fox shocks? Seems the shocks are the major difference between the two sleds. Appears like the XC would preform well off trail unless you are a very aggressive mountain rider.
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 6 месяцев назад
they would be similar. the XC will have a more plush ride om the trails would be the biggest difference

You should look around at the '24 leftovers. Some great deals right now! I just bought a '24 Switchback XC for mostly trail riding. I have a 2 up seat for my boy. I'm hoping the high setting holds up to the weight.

I’m fat. Did fat kid torsions and a 225 lb/in front track spring (stock fts spring is too soft) It’s wayyyyyy better

Is there any adjustment I can make with the stock set up to soften the initial mogul impact toward the front of the track suspension. It hits ao hard I'm literally riding 10 mph slower than my XCR riding buddy just to avoid losing my filings. Being riding for decades and this is the harshest rear suspension I've ever experienced. I don't have any issues with the rear springs. All of my concerns are when the track comes into the mogul, it feels like there is zero compression taking place. What avalve adustment can I make to soften this up and to which shock? Thank you!
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 8 месяцев назад
unfortunately there is no adjustment you can do. Youll have to send both rear shocks into Bruce to have him valve them. only option you have

I’m curious on how the valving on the switchback xc compares
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 Год назад
That is a softer all around valve stack. They also have riffle bore shock bodies which make they an even softer ride

Great question as I’m looking at a left over 22 xc 146 but worry about the stuff ride of an assault.

you will not have a stiff ride on an XC!

Where’s the video where y’all talk about setting the compression on the FTS vs the RTS? Guess I’m gonna have to come down to Bruce 🤣

Great video once again! I’m sledless right now and not sure what to get next. The stiff ride was my only complaint with the Assault, even with revalved shocks. Sounds like you guys have it dialed in a bit better!
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 9 месяцев назад
all depends on who valves them. Bruce and i have done a ton of testing to find set ups for all riders and weights. Hes also been valving shocks for as long as ive been alive so he is a brain. i would recommend whatver you get send him the shocks and have him valve them!
@davidkolisnek6601

I’m 270 lbs with gear and played with the front shock spring which I tightened 1/8 shocks are on 2 and rear spring on soft and it’s amazing off trail and on in the rough but bottoms on g outs and jumps but usually standing anyway NE Saskatchewan riding area
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 Год назад
so 270 we would reccomend going to the HD rear springs and getting the shocks revalved for your weight. Because they are so soft after the initial hit you will continue to bottom out and blow through the stroke. Bruce can valve to help that! see link below for shock service www.southsidesales.com/snowmobile-shocks

Would putting the Walker Evans high/low clicker shocks increase the on trail performance without ruining the performance off trail?
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 Год назад
that would only allow you to tune more precisely. it would not change the feel of the shock because that is limited by valving. Those added with better valving and youd be all set

Do you or Bruce have a video out yet on this new polaris stop ride recall on the Matryx clutch? Got the notice in the mail in July but I have not heard anything from my dealer on whats going to happen?

they do not. The XC will have a softer ride

I'm 220 without gear and this is absolutely my only complaint with the sled. So much so I keep thinking about switching to an XCR when I don't want to. When trails are groomed or just not rutted up it's a dream sled. But once it's whooped up it fucking sucks. I'll literally have a headache when I get off the trail from it.
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 Год назад
take the shocks off and send them off to Bruce! this is what he/we specialize in! we will get it so you dont feel like that!

Bruce and I did some late season testing last winter and he made huge improvements in the ride quality of the Assault. The goal was to get rear suspension in a Polaris 146 crossover that was as good as or better than the lynx xterrain. We had his dialed xcr along with my assault and Lynx xterrain LE. The new shock settings are night and day from stock. Could finally hammer big bumps and holes without blowing thru the stroke and bottoming.

Wouldn’t putting Indy valving in the Assault shocks greatly hinder its off trail performance?
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 Год назад
would not be stock Indy valving it would be drastically change valving to work with the IGX geometry and what the rider wants. Some one thats 100 trail or some one that is 80% trail and 20% off depends on what valving Bruce would put in it!
@jamesmullen75
@jamesmullen75 Год назад
Sure, still a trade off but I understand that is the reality of buying a crossover sled. @@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 Год назад
our valving would be decently stiff on the nose so it would be decent off trail still but yes its a trade off somwhere
@jamesmullen75
@jamesmullen75 Год назад
This sled would benefit greatly from a factory smart shock set up.
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 Год назад
in a perfect world all sleds would benefit from them
@jamesmullen75
@jamesmullen75 Год назад
Yes.. but, imo, especially sleds in the crossover category given the range of conditions they are expected to perform in. @@JESSEJAMES322

So for this setup do you send all 4 shocks in or just the two in the skid? What would it cost to re-valve them, my shocks have 1200 miles on them currently? Thanks!
@JESSEJAMES322
@JESSEJAMES322 Год назад
so really depends on what youre unhappy with. Most of the issues we see on the Assaults are from the rear but the fact you have 1200 miles on all 4 its not a bad idea to have the fronts gone through as well. A revalve is $95 per shock a re fresh is $45(i believe). below is the shock service link. ther eis a form to fill out when you send your shocks in www.southsidesales.com/snowmobile-shocks
