"The Polaris Ghost Squadron was assembled to demonstrate precision formation flying with the aim to inspire the next generation of aerospace enthusiasts and raise funds and awareness for our partner St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital." - www.polarisprogram.com
Following a sneak preview of the Polaris Ghost Squadron at Oshkosh last year, the team returns in 2024 with a full 8-ship display with its MiG-29 as the centrepiece! Flanked by four L-39s and three Alpha Jets, the MiG-29 is the only civilian-owned airworthy aircraft of its type in the United States.
At the 50th anniversary of the SUN 'n FUN Aerospace Expo, the Ghost Squadron made their 8-ship debut across five of the six show days including two evening demonstrations.
This video features a few of their displays (the first two days they were an Alpha Jet down) over the week at SUN 'n FUN.
The team is owned by American billionaire and astronaut, Jared Isaacman, the founder of Draken International amongst other companies. Isaacman was also the commander of the Inspiration4 space mission operated by SpaceX in September 2021. He will also command the Polaris Dawn mission which will be a human spaceflight to orbit Earth with only private citizens on board. It will be the first in a series of missions named the Polaris Program.
