honestly such a good album. the descent and above my head are some of my favorites on this just due to the structure of it being so unique. the mortal coil is full of those kinds of moments, need that reaction next
Mortal Coil is the album that kinda kickstarted me to actually dive into the metalcore genre, so its my all-time favourite. Both Death of me and fatalism are amazing albums. Pray For Rain is like the perfect opening to an album, similar to Harbinger in Fatalism other than that im a total sucker for Hypermania, Waves, All of this is Fleeting
Jamie's vocal flow is amazing, one the reasons I put him the the top tier. He doesn't have a ton of range but his flow and emotive delivery fucking crush it every time.
I've left this comment on so many videos about these dudes recently, but Dan (drummer) is CRIMINALLY underrated IMO. Polaris does everything "metalcore" at a really high level. I appreciate how much you're calling to just how talented of a drummer he is. Saw these dudes live 2 weeks ago and they put on a hell of a show!
I'm late to this video, but I love the fact that you talk about the theory behind the music. I may be wrong but I haven't seen any other metal reviewers do that. I'd love to see more thorough breakdowns of your favorite songs and why they're your favorite.
I'm starting to do a little bit more of that with my reactions now. I want to dig deeper into the theory of why I like a certain song so much. I'm planning on doing a sort of monthly "podcast" where I talk about how my opinions have changed on all the music I listened to over the month which should be interesting
Alright well thanks for occupying 2 hours of my night lol Landmine, Masochist, All of this is Fleeting is my top 3. I had the pleasure to see them live on October 25th here in Charlotte, NC. Please do yourself a favor and see them live.
Highly recommend: Dissipate, Parasite, Overflow (from Fatalism), Dusk to Day, Crooked Path (from The Mortal Coil), Unfamiliar, Voiceless and No Rest (from The Guilt and the Grief). 10/10 amazing.
@coreyclip1 you’re in due for a full reaction to aoghau- the last record Tom wrote before passing to cancer. Some of the modt powerful lyrics and music ever written in that record.
I really enjoyed Above My Head. And when I'm with friends turned off by screams, I still love vibing to the instrumental. Have you ever checked out the Russian band Shrezzers?
It would be fun if you checked out tdwp - with roots above and branches below, i wanna see how much you slam it (if you do check it out and/or slam it)
I've been enjoying your reviews and I was wondering if your could check out Bad Omens self-titled album, if you want and if you've never checked yet of course.
if you want a bit of a different side of metalcore i think you should check out Burying Brightness by Boundaries, super old school metalcore / melodic hardcore with some modern twists (my aoty of 2022)
I heard that album when it released but I honestly don't remember much of it. I remember liking it but it wasn't my favorite. Maybe I have to give it a few more listens
Definitely most Fridays at 9am EST unless I'm unable to. I might do some streams at other times, but if you join my discord (link in description) I post updates about when I'm going to go live
