A huge thanks for your videos in general, but this one was the best! My 92 Polaris 350L would only run on half choke. After viewing your video on Mikuni carb cleaning, maybe 10 times, I worked up the neve to try it. Your instuctions were clear. My Polaris runs better than new! I particularly liked your cleaning of the outside of the carb first to prevent carb from dirt and grime later. Again thanks, I owe you big time Ken
Thanks for posting this videos on how to rebuild the carb, it helped me out. Also very detailed on how things work and how to clean each part. Thanks Again
Thanks Sixtyfiveford, I was able to remove and clean my 2005 Trailblazer's carb in an hour after watching your video. After that bike starts up much better. Thanks again from South Africa.
Been doing this stuff for 45 years (or more) and just had my carb appart for a cleaning and I ended up with a spare washer! i'm like WTF??? Watched your vid and noticed they had a washer/spacer btw the main jet and the part it screwed into. Good vid brother. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Great video, gonna give my sons a good cleanup tomorrow. We went to our local riding spot today and it wouldn't start. I pulled the carb and gave it a "quick" clean on the spot, but hoping a real good clean will get her up and running ! thanks for posting this !
thanks for the video man I have a 90 trail boss and ran like crap until I watched your video now it purrs thanks again only cost me 30 bucks for the rebuild kit and carb cleaner
Hey! it's people like you that take time to help me or those of us that might be unsure how to do a carb rebuild clean...liv'n in the pines sometimes need to make sure information is good..no part stores here...not sure if still around but thanks my friend....Good stuff man...Tear'n he down in morn...."Highpines"
Yep helpful...also was wondering..I see that the chock knob thingie is a flip half full on that quad where mine is a pull knob?...think I could change mine to a flip knob?....just easier to use when starting you know?....Thanks
You can just adjust the idle with the idle adjustment screw on the side of the carb. It is a large phillips screw with large ridges on it. Turn it in (clockwise) to raise rpm. Adjusting the needle will mess up the tune. Raising the needle will richen the fuel air mixture as you are revving it up. If it is too rich it will foul spark plugs easily.
At 3:40 I am spraying out the "seat" and at 4:02 I am holding the "needle". If your carb is leaking out then the needle and seat aren't sealing. This can be because the float is sticking, debris on the seat/needle or the needle tip is bad. Shifting: All 250 Trailblazers I have ridden take a good 3-5 seconds to let the engine idle down before you can shift. If it jerks when you shift it into gear or is hard to get out of gear then your idle speed is set to high.
The needle has a rubber tip to seal. Make sure the floats are moving. With the carb in half you can also pour gas into the bowl and make sure they float good. The float lever tab could be adjusted to high. To adjust bend the tab that touches the needle top up so that the floats press harder and engage sooner.
thanks for the great video! But I have a question when you took the spring off was there a big washer that came off too? I don't remember seeing it but it feel on the floor while i was working. Thanks Anthony
Thanks for the very quick reply! I'll get a new needle and try to free up the float. I did notice how you had to pound on the pin a bit to free it and install it. Mine was very loose and and required much less effort to disassemble. Problematic? Cheers!
Awesome Video! Thanks. couple questions... 03 trailblazer 250... carb is identical to yours. I took it apart mainly because it just keeps leaking gas, even when it's sitting. I have a hunch it may be the needle and seat from what I read. My question is what parts are they and how do you know if they need replacing? Next, I have to wait a little longer than normal to shift from High into Reverse because it idles down slowly. I did notice one float is less freely moving. Thanks a LOT!
Thanks! I still am having trouble starting my atv. I was ridding it the other day and had no problem the next day i tryed to start it back up but got nothing. my spark plug has a good spark, i sprayed starter fluid and and it still didn't want to turn over, i clean the carb and still got nothing, im getting good suction but im not getting any gas on my hand im getting a good flow of gas to the carb. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Anthony
thank i lern a lots youre video do you know if for winter we need change main jet and do we need change adjustment of the needle or only change the main jet for wintewr i have polarisscrambler400 2002
Question for you about the bowl gasket. Today I took apart the carb of a cheap bike motor to clean the float valve, and the gasket was deteriorated and some of the material was in the bowl. I removed/cleaned off the gasket. Now for my question. Can I use silicone liquid gasket for the bowl gasket? There is no way I can make a paper one because of the intricate shape. Thanks in advance.
Permatex #2. It just has a 2 on it and says gasket sealant. You can find it at any auto parts store. This is the only thing that I have found that is fuel resistant. Put it on and let it tack up. It will turn to a tar like constancy and seal up your bad gasket. Put the bowl back on and you should be good to go( I usually like to let it sit for a few hours before exposing it to gas).
I cleaned out the carb on mine did everything you did but when I cut the fuel back on when it was reinstalled fuel was pouring out if the over flow hose I was thinking that maybe the floats where stuck but they where fine when I cleaned it. Any thoughts on why this happened thanks
Excellent instructional video that will help a novice DIY'er! Thank you. Also, my 94 Polaris Trail Boss 250 is running very high idle. If it's not the idle set screw, what would you suggest I look into next?
I cleaned the carb on my trailblazer 250 and replaced the choke and throttle cable and I started it and it dosnt smoke like it used to....I shut it off immediately because I felt like it wasn't getting enough oil...could this possibly be from the 2nd cable on the throttle cable?the one that goes beneath the carburetor to the lever looking thing?
hello i just want to know if the carb got overflow and leaks wont get start? i have 98 trialboss 250 also i use pull start not electric start bc i didnt get a new seloniod start tho
Do you still have this machine? I'm curious how the vacuum and vent lines are ran. I have a feeling I have two mixed up. It's hard to see on the parts diagrams online.
great instructions.. i have a 1986 polaris 250 after that was said and done on cleaning the carb there is a line that they say is a vacume line next to the idle screw that when i turn it on fuel comes out of there like crazy and spills everywhere. and the carb where the air intake goes had fuel coming out of it as well.????
If starter fluid won't make it fire it can only be a few things; your spark plug is fouled/shorted, engine flooded or you have low compression. I would guess the plug or flooded. Pull the plug and turn it over half a dozen times and install a new or cleaned spark plug (clean by heating the tip of the plug to cherry red with a propane torch).
im working on a 250 trailblazer, it was idling ok, but the carb needed cleaned any way. got it all cleaned up and now it wont idle, it will run and rev up, but dies when i let off throttle, i tried adjusting the throttle needle up one notch. but no luck, any Ideas?
thank a lots nice video help me lots i clean it but i change my float needle because was in idle over flow by the hose bottom chsange the float needle thank for youre advise
Great video. Quick question. My 94 300 Trail Boss starts well cold, but can be really hard to restart once warm or after a while of riding. It will eventually restart after holding wide open and cranking for a while. I'm trying to diagnose the problem. Could there be an issue with the float needle or perhaps the bowl overflow is plugged?
Jason Wall There's a good chance you have low compression. When it is cold it will have higher compression and will start easier. Once it is all warmed up and the engine block and piston have expanded the compression gets lower. I would run a cold and hot compression test.
Hey, thank you for posting this video. I just cleaned out my carb. Now when I give it has, it bogs down when I punch the gas. Have you ever had that problem? How did you fix? Thanks!
Smashing :-) Nice to know you have done a spot on job, so if the machine still has a problem then its not the carb and you can ignore it. Ooow loose floats, thats an odd style to me, im used to the older fixed to the plate type. Engine sounds happy :-)
my bosses trailboss is POURING gas out of the muffler, yes muffler.and also the obvious drain tube. it floods instantly.2 pulls. so i cleaned the gunk out, Full carb cleaning even a little more extensive thaN you did. floats are fine needle looks and seems to be functioning correctly as does the entire carb. I could be wrong. the only thing i did notice is that the throttle valve takes longer to drop back down once i let go of thumb throttle, like it is sticking have you any idea wtf it could be?
Hey great video BTW I have a quick question I got a 2000 trailblazer its got spark and air I cleaned my carb exactly like u did all the passages are clear but it'll turn over and won't start
averyty96 These are picky about compression and if it is too low they won't start. Put a little(1 tsp) gas down the throat of the carb or in the spark plug hole to see if it will start and run for a few seconds. If not pour a little motor oil(1 tsp) into the spark plug hole. This will raise the compression for a few seconds and allow it to start/run if everything else is good.
I Have a question for you. I am tiring to get my 250 running and I have rebuilt the carb as per your video (outstanding job) after installing it correctly and tried to start it I could get it to start and it would start and only idle, if I give it any throttle it will just die out and then hard to start after that, So what else I can do or should I check?
Your symptoms are the Main Jet. It probably picked up something from the fuel line or tank once you reinstalled it. Remember to give it ZERO gas when starting it. The choke circuit doesn't function if the throttle is even pushed a little.
Hey good vid. I got a question you might know. I have a 2001 trailblazer 250. And I’ve rebuilt the carb twice. Atv was sitting for 6 years. First time I cleaned carb, lines tank everything perfectly and found it idles perfect when cold never needs the chock to start but after 20 minutes of riding vehicle had perfect top end but won’t idle and dies like it’s running out of gas then takes a while to start. After cooling down starts up perfect. Rebuild the carb again but replaced all jets, seals, gaskets and needles and retested. Verified the fuel lines were clean and had proper fuel flow but after 20/25 minutes of riding or when getting hot it’s dies like it runs out of gas at idle. I have to keep hitting the throttle to keep it alive at idle. Air screw is at spec, have proper spec fuel. Clean air filter and found the fuel take is not creating a vacuum either. I don’t know what to do anymore. I took it to a Polaris dealer and they said they couldn’t get it to duplicate and gave it back. Any thots
Dieing/running problems when hot can be a few things. Ethanol in fuel can cause this due to it's much lower boiling point. Essentially causing vapor lock. Spark issues from overheating coil can also cause hot running issues. A carb set too lean will cause an engine to run significantly hotter than normal.
@@sixtyfiveford After verifying the coil and magneto were operating normally and are with in spec of what the service Manuel specified I got it figured out. I Performed a compressing test when cold and hot. I have 116 psi when cold then it drops to 98psi as soon at the engine reaches temps over 140°. The cylinder or cylinder rings are losing lots of compression at idle when hot. Gonna have to rebuilt. Thanks for your info and help.
I bought two cheap four wheels old and beat up i have been casually been fixing them on slow boring days but one problem i have had is finding the right choke setting.
There's really no setting the choke. It is either on or off. As far as starting when cold. The choke should be on and do not press the throttle at all. Once the engine fires then you can give it a little gas.
Great video! I do my carbs pretty much same way, I like mine sqeaky clean too, I use bread bag ties, and electric duster in cans from Walmart or? Nice job.😊
Hi, you dont by any chance have a video of how the fuel line pipes connect from the fuel tank to the carb and how to clear all the air from the system once you have connected everything?
Bella Nagel I don't have a video on the lines. If you watch the video carefully you should be able to see the lines and where they go. There is only 1 fuel inlet and it will flow fuel by itself, there is no need to bleed it. The other lines are vent lines and should have air in them.
My 01 trailblazer is leaking gas through the exhaust. Any tips on whats going on. Also not related to the video, but i can pull start it pretty easy but it will not electric start. It turns over well and has a full battery, but just wont start unless pull started.
Evan Schmidt Good chance the needle/seat in the carb aren't seating and a little gas is pooling up. Pull your spark plug and look at it. If it's dry and black then too much gas is going through the engine. The starters are notorious for getting water in them and either not working or turning too slow.
What is the hose from the engine to the carb called? The carb has been rebuilt but it seems to wanna choke out after your going 25 or so....also it almost dies when try to go in reverse. Any ideas? Thanx
Thankful for instruction on my first carb clean. Now I have fuel just running straight out of the overflow line on the bottom and will not start. Thoughts anyone?
@sixtyfiveford I can start my engine and everything but I have to give it lots of gas and I can’t let it idle or it dies. I have to keep my hand on the throttle so it won’t bog down or it just will quit. Any tips?
My carb has been messed with someone didn't have a clue what they were doing. I reset and clean it all but the idle adj is there a certain setting for it or are they all their own breed.??
Going to hit this sucker tonight. Just bought a 92 Trail Boss 250 4X4 yesterday. Bogs and will only stay running at low RPM with feathering. Hoping a good cleaning will do the trick.
sixtyfiveford puked it all apart and cleaned, and the Idol jet was fully plugged. Cleaned it out with some copper wire and carb spray and it made a big difference. Ran and idled. But, not it's hard to start until it warms up a lot it just randomly bogs and dies. Really want to figure this out.
I must have not followed the instructions correctly and carb cleaner shot back into my left eye! I washed it out and went back to it... Idling like a champ now!!
Ok well my quad was runnin good then it started to boggin out n shut off on me..so i got the carb cleaned n was running good then a week later it started boggin out again n shut off again n it wount start up tht much now..i have a 98 polairs 250 trail blazer..umm would u kno wht tht problem is..n its also blowin out blue smoke to so idk if i need new rings or a reed valve idk lol umm wht would u think it might be umm please let me kno thanks man...
Ivan Epa Does it start right up or do you have to let it sit for a minute then it starts right back up. If you have to wait a bit then the fuel filter is more than likely clogged.
I was riding my 01 polaris trailblazer and it started bogging losing power till it stopped and cut off. It wouldn't start back. I just watched your video and cleaned my carb the exact way you did and it still won't start. Please help... Any suggestions?
Hi, I just picked up a 2002 Trailblazer 250 that has been in storage since the summer of 2002 after only One 4hr ride by a woman who it was bought for who watched her husband flip his quad that day and get hurt badly. She never rode it again. Anyway, It obviously needs the carb cleaned. I have cleaned many many carbs of all types. Last time I did one on a T-blazer was 8 yrs ago. So my question is just removing the carb. I remember having to remove alot of the bodywork to get to it. Was just hoping you could remind me just what needs to come off and the order just to save me some time and grief. Thanks, Ian
Hey quick question i did everything in this video and for some reason i put it back together and would not start, so i replaced the spark plug but nothing and suggestions would be awesome thank you
These are two-stroke machines but they have an oil injection system up on the front where you put two-stroke oil. Then you put regular pump gasoline in the gas tank. It mixes it all for you at the proper ratio. However if you don't think your oil injection system is working you can mix your own two-stroke gasoline and put that in the gas tank.
