My 600 was my first ever camera, and it's what got me into photography. It looked the same as that one but blue, thrifted from a local value village. She's dead and replaced with another 600 model now, but I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for that classic flip open face.
hahahahaha i absolutely love retrospekt. i love what they are doing and i have bought three cameras so far. glad to see you getting a camera that has been given a new life instead of a brand new camera.
The white streak might just be residue leftover from the rollers. Good idea to just wipe off the two rollers after every pack of film. Just paper towel is fine.
While that could be, it seems to be more of a production flaw. I just shot a pack a couple of days ago and I got a similar streak in the same place. Checked the rollers afterwards and they were clean.
Just won an auction for a Polaroid 670 AF. I can't wait to leave it on my desk because the film is so expensive. Also even though there's a light meter, you're supposed to use the exposure comp in low light and bright sunlight, move the switch one quarter towards black during daylight, and one quarter towards white in low light.
This video made me remember how good of a movie memento is, and it also made me realize that I might be as depressed as you, but without the ability to take great pictures.
Finally you get to Polaroid!! SX-70 any time soon? In all seriousness, you got some nice photos! Also you can get Polaroid film slightly cheaper through Amazon and sometimes ebay (of course storage is important and in both cases you can have issues here and there) (and sometimes Polaroid have sales on their site; though I believe some people have discount codes; such as the Analog Talk podcast folks)
The pinkboy has some appeal but is definitely closer to the "toy" side of the Polaroid spectrum. Still can produce awesome results, but the real heavy lifters are the Polaroid SX-70 and SLR680. Incredible glass and build, but with a thicc thicc price tag if you're just trying to heck around with this stuff. Still, for the price of the film, it kinda makes you want to get the best hardware possible. This is our curse.
@@tanjah9318 Yeah the eBay route is definitely the way to go in terms of cost. If you're good at doing Internet you can pretty much guarantee you can grab a functioning one for that cost. I understand why he wouldn't have dropped that much for a RU-vid vid, but it does look like he bought it off Retrospekt which means it may have cost more than an SX-70 actually lol
Just followed after seeing the canon ae-1 videos! I’m a beginner and want to learn and just saw this recent video, so crazy I actually own a Polaroid 600!!
The color and grain quality here looks on par with the 10 euro 600 I picked up at a flea market in Stuttgart a few years ago. We're probably shooting the same film so that makes sense. Unrelated but sort of related, my two year old adores that camera and always asks to have his photo taken with it.
@6:26 you have these things called 'newtonian rings.' they typically happen when theres moisture on your film and you put it directly on the glass when scanning
Everyone will tell you that you'll have to clean the rollers to get rid of those streaks but it actually won't work. You'll have to live with it as it's caused by different aspects as temperature in the chemical chambers you can see from the back. Had this in so many shots on so many different days.
I've never gotten good results out of a 600 box camera but if you put in the money to get a sx-70 600 conversion and a mint flash bar all your shots come out looking sexy
I was becoming convinced I need one until I saw the shutter go off when it’s shut, I’d waste a whole pack of Polaroid’s when I awkwardly get it out my bag. 6:47 🔥
Quick Tip: 1: When your taking a photo have the sun behind you: Tip 2: When your shooting a in a hot or humid environment, be sure to have something cold to put it in or else you will get the infamous magenta streak.
It's always a hit or miss with polaroid. Maybe you need to change the exposure compensation a bit. Our Savior Matt Day once said, that he turns the dial a bit towards the darker side, which should reduce the shutter speed. But on the other hand I had great exposures with the dial a bit to the brighter side. Maybe you should have gone with the newer Cameras with a better lens and the fact that you could use the cartridges without the battery. Nevertheless I liked the video. Cheers from Germany Oh. Btw you opening the polaroid box that way almost gave me anxiety.
Fun fact, if you try to shoot polaroid onestep 600 without the flash... Don’t, just don’t. Cuz no matter how you try to hold the camera still, it’s just not gonna work, and the result will always be blurry, atleas that’s how the experience for me. So yeah, just keep the flash on, and maybe try to slide the exposure correction if the subject is too bright Edit : I comment this because It seems like you tried to take a picture of the gas station without the flash. Idk, cuz I can’t see it in the video
In Australia we pay $40 per pack, so $5 per shot. I have a brand new Polaroid and it takes terrible pics, I use an old 600, the pics come out perfect everytime
My girlfriends from the Czech republic and she brought back a Pack of Polaroid 600 duochrome pink and a pack of blue. We haven’t shot it yet, and had no idea of the value until this video. She couldn’t believe when I called her to tell her that people were asking over $500 for them when she paid $20 for them each.
White/blue streaks on Polaroid 600 happpens (often to me) when the rollers are dirty. Streaks can also occur when not shielding the exposure right after being taken.
You're damn right sir in this movie... Regarding episode IX. The one stripe different then two others on your Polaroid picture was caused by damaged chemistry pocket (not sure how it is called). Each photo has 3 of them for each stripe, and rolls in camera spread chemistry over photo, but... from time to time you get this. Funny fuct is that you can get whole film pack with it and Polaroid will say that "well, shit happens" :) It might be caused by temperature, storing conditions and it also might be damaged in factory. Anyway please try to use exposure conmpensation it helps a lot.
for 1/3rd shots you should set the camera down on a stationary surface like the ground or a car hood, or brace it against a wall or something, there's no steady handing it, but at the same time a tripod socket would completely defeat the unplanned pregnancy nature of the format. Obviously this doesn't do much good in the rain :/
Great video, enjoyed thoroughly. I’ve tried multiple times to like Polaroid Originals, but I’m never happy with the results. I get the whole “unpredictable” nature of the film, happy mistakes and all..... but it’s so inconsistent, I can never fully rely on the film. The results are all over the place. That and the cost factor, I just don’t think Polaroid is worth it when compared to Instax mini/wide/square..... Considering instax is also way more cheaper than polaroids, I find it difficult not to pick instax over polaroids every time.
Instax are cool and all, with great consistency, but Polaroid are more actively in RnD stage (probably since it’s not the OG Formula, but nonetheless, it seems like Fuji are more begrudgingly still in the market)
Shawn Brezny what about their newest batch of Polaroid branded film? Or the SX-70 stuff? From what I’ve seen it’s pretty improved. Of course, it’s slow incremental improvements, but improvements nonetheless
I have never had a desire to get a Polaroid, because all I remembered from them was that the pictures were always dark and fuck, with almost no vibrance. They were all muddy, muted shit. Instead, I shoot digital, and it's awesome! And cheaper, in the long run.
I've gotten some gas ): i bought a new polaroid spectra only to find out out there js no new film to be made for it... still bought some overprized film for it tho
Are those cameras new or just referbished? They look just like the late era 600s. I guess I got lucky and scooped a bunch up right when the actual Polaroid company stopped making film. Must have 20 different 600s that I bought for next to nothing.
Tim Fitzwater Polaroid (or what used to be Polaroid Originals) do sell refurbished cameras on their site. There are probably cheaper refurb alternatives though. Saying that, with all my Polaroid Camera purchases, I’ve only ever bought used old stuff which was probably sitting in some attic or drawer. (which needed to be cleaned). The latter option is cheaper
My two cameras I’ve found at thrift stores both have burned look at the top of all the film I’ve put through them a couple “rolls now” which is a bummer but I guess it’s the AESTHETIC idk help…
The one I have has a tripod mounting hole as well as a sonar auto focus. Down here in Australia it costs like $45 for just one pack of film Still it was my first camera so of course I love it
polaroid maybe buy actual film im talking 120, 35mm, sheet film etc are cheap as dirt. For some reason the bigger the film the cheaper it is for me to buy which you would assume the opposite.
