What kind of prints are you doing?

They weren't using their own technology in their Zip printers (every single one used Zink paper and Zink technology) and I don't think they are in their new lines either. The cartridge looks identical to what KODAK uses in their mini printers. The printing process is also identical (multiple colour passes). Its dye sublimination, so not particularly new technology by any means - compact/mini photo printers have been using exactly the same thing for decades now (e.g. Canon selphy was out in 2005) - although the miniaturisation has come a long way and is impressive. It isn't particularly clear who is actually behind the specific implementation in the Polaroid or Kodak printers (whether its a 3rd party or Polaroid is licencing it off Kodak) but they are definitely the same thing. I suspect it is neither Kodak or Polaroid - as neither have developed their own printing technology and have always licenced it or own branded their printer products.

Yeah it’s a lot of intricate waste. I do see a lot of waste in any type of printed or other instant film photography too though

I know that space is right. You may have to sacrifice the cartridge to get that picture out by cutting the photo with scissors and then trying to remove the cartridge

Yeah but even for a causal picture it just looks subpar. Especially when you can get a much better quality Instax mini printer for less and it actually emulates film really well. I would recommend that over this. Instax film will be made until film becomes unpopular, so much longer than this proprietary one

No, I’ve tried multiple times with this and another device that uses this technology. It’s always dark and grainy. It’s fun but will never give you the image you want perfectly.
