Thanks. The Polaroid is a Dye Sub printer which is quite superior in pretty much every way to the HP which is ZINK. Thats also why the Polaroid film is more expensive. Ive had two different cameras/printers that use ZINK, never again. The quality is just not there. Really only suitable for children to play around with as stickers.

The reason why polaroid film and min printer cartridges are expensive aren't the same and has less to do with quality and more to do with costs associated with each format. Polaroid film is actual, old school, exposure based film development. It relies on physical exposure of the image onto the "film"/paper. The chemicals for developing these are packed into the film itself and are released after exposure through rollers compressing and breaking their packaging. So its physically developing the film as you would in a dark room but all in the camera's body. Its a relatively complicated and technical product to manufacture and has fairly tight tolerances to ensure that everything works as intended. Which is why its so expensive. Polaroid's "Hi Print" use transparent ink film to heat transfer the dye onto the paper. Its a completely different process and they are expensive for different reasons. Each cartridge has 4 different colour ink films that are used to transfer each of the 4 colours onto the paper in turn. Because they bundle the paper with the ink, there is a lot of unused ink that goes to waste. The amount of ink film of each colour is way more than you would need - as the ink is contained physically on transparent film, there is no way to measure how much is left as in a conventional inkjet printer. Overloading is used as a means of making sure that you get sufficient ink for each colour per print. End users ultimately pay for the excess/waste - which is why dye sub mini printer cartridges are more expensive and also wasteful. Unless portability is a must, you are much better off just getting a decent resolution photoprinter that uses conventional ink, or even something like the Canon Selphy which (whilst using the same technology as the Hi-Print) doesn't forcibly combine the ink cartridges with the photo paper. At the end of the day, the colour accuracy and quality might be better than a Zink printer but with only 4 colour "cartridges", it is still pretty terrible.

Hi, thanks for the video! One question though, do you know if the cartridges from the Kodak mini 2 work on the polaroid? Thanks!

Hello, my polaroid does not print because it says it is out of paper, but it says so even if the paper is new, what could be the problem?

The Zink paper for the sprocket also is a sticker paper.. it’s just a little tedious to pull back but it does 🙂.. Just wanted to share that because I totally agree with you a 100 percent that the Polaroid cartridge is much more expensive. The price difference isn’t because it’s a sticker paper, I just think that the Polaroid brand overcharges because of its name, which is dumb (just my opinion) 👍🏽

I don't agree. Polaroid uses a totally different printing system to the Sprocket. It involves paper and heat-sensitive film whereas HP uses Zink paper, a single sheet of coated paper. Costs for the Polaroid printer will be higher because of that. To my mind the Polaroid system (dye sublimation) produces far superior results.

Honestly from what I've seen in this video the Polaroid high print is a way better purchase and right now it's on sale for $80 on the Best buy website

A regular printer x stock paper, cheaper than this. Or order from vistaprint, even cheaper.

I won the Polaroid hi print with 60 sheets of paper for $38.00 total, to the door, device, paper and all. If your not a snap freak, the paper price isn't that bad. Heck, look for sales, I just ordered a 2 pack ( 40 sheets ) total for $14.00. Cool lil photo printer ✌️
