wow cool, easy to understand how it all works. I use my iPhone to shoot pictures with an improvised colour filter. I also use the "slow shutter" app to photograph waterfalls. I would only be interested in a polarizer and warm colour filter.
Everyone, please be aware that the Bluetooth shutter DOES NOT WORK with Filmic Pro. All it does when you press it, is turn up the volume. Shame, because it’s a great bit of kit. Great video.
How is the drop protection? Are the front lip areas enough to stop a fall on the screen cracking it? I’m looking to get the new version for iPhone 15 pm thanks!
As I know nothing wrt iPhone camera work. I'm thinking for starters the setup you have pointed out in this video would be a much simpler place to start with the run and gun style of shooting I plan on doing. If in the future a gimbal (G6 Max) is deemed advantageous or necessary - a guy can get one. To me, it seems like starting with a gimbal could be way more fiddly for a beginner where the LiteChasser kit/setup would be a more foolproof approach to get one's feet wet... & still having fun doing it.
Thanks again Blake for sharing this video. It's great to know that you're not seeng any crossing throughout each step. That's one thing I'm always concerned about. I just received my iPhone 13 Pro Max in which I'm about to order a VND kit from PolarPro. They are offering two different VND's, 3-5 (8-32) and 6-7 (64-128). I have a couple more questions if I may; 1) Did you find yourself needing/wanting a 6-7 VND in bright sunny days? 2) I noticed on the PolarPro site it stated not to use Ultra Wide. I didn't see any issues in your test TM@. Did you run into any? Thanks again. 😊👍
Hi, many thanks for posting the video on the LiteChaser Polar Pro, really enjoyed it. Was wondering if you see any vignetting when using the wide or ultra-wide lenses on the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the filters for taking photos or video?, thanks
Thanks for the video Blake. I dropped my iPhone X Shuttercase with a Moment lens attached last week and snapped off the Moment fittings. Looks like I might update to Polar Pro seeing I can fit my Moment lenses.
this is why I have a grip. I also put a strap on it. when im using my phone for calls I know im grabbing it. when im shooting the phone is (obviously) always out and being handled. increases your chances to drop it by 100 times.
Nice kit… however, Polar Pro needs to offer a 6-9 VND filter for shooting on sunny days. Unfortunately, I probably won’t use the lite chaser as often as I would like due to the ND limitations.
Thanks for the video!! So it seems like there's no issue with the ultra wide lens? The Polar Pro website 3-5 VND mist shows to only be compatible with the Wide and Telephoto lens. That's what kept me from pulling the trigger.
That’s interesting. Didn’t have any trouble with it as demonstrated in the video (didn’t know that’s what they were suggesting either). Will do some more ultra wide shot experimenting to make sure.
Thanks for the review! It'd be really nice if PolarPro would make a filter adapter so we can use any filter we already have. Moondog Labs isn't available in Germany AFAIK.
Yeah it is nice though they made it somewhat more universal with bayonet... Btw, Moondog ships international, but not sure what kind of fees are associated with that... moondoglabs.com/pages/faqs. Thanks for watching!
Nice thanks! I’m gonna get a 12 pro Max soon and I have Moment lenses. Will I be able to attach a Moment lens? And I also wanna use the pro list filter over it
Blake, when you were out in direct sun which stop were using more? It seems to be 5 stop. I didn’t see it in your video, but did you see a color difference as you went higher in stops, like a warmer tint or a warmer tint more prominent on the upper right? If you did could use adjust the white balance in Filmic?
In bright sun I did use 5 stop and I saw no color cast in the footage. I have had that happen with other cheaper VND and for the most part you can correct it, but have had an orange cast that was tough to fix.
Ic some people having a problem mounting some of the moments lens ie the anamorphic lens not fitting. Is anyone else having this problem. Just doing a little research before I buy
This a great package, but it seems the downside is if they change the design of the iPhone you have to buy a whole new kit. You seemed negative on the shutter button. Did you resolve the issue with that?
Yes the shutter button was a bad unit regarding the “sticking”, but haven’t figured out Filmic Pro compatibility yet. And yeah, that is a downside for any of these style cases. If you want one that will last through different phones I would recommend the Beastgrip Pro. geni.us/QdB1
Blake...for some reason the link to your second channel doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried many times to get to your 2nd channel but it’s a no go. Any ideas? Thanks 🙏🏼. Good informative video, btw 👍🏼
Hey thanks for asking! I had issues with the link a few days ago, but thought it was cleared up. Something on the YT side. Try this bit.ly/AlmostProVideos. If that doesn’t work there’s a direct link on the end screen of the video. Thank you for watching!
They’re really different animals. The cage is great, but it’s more of a full rig and robust setup - and you have to customize it w filters, lenses, etc. (which is good, but can get pricey). The LiteChaser is excellent, but it’s more minimalist and it comes w the filters. So depends on what you want to shoot really.
Love this video. PolarPro does a surpringly terrible job explaining this set. I think the iPhone Pro has officially become a B cam and totally justified. Next time, PLEASE make exposure adjustments when down to 3 stop - it’s clearly not adjusting between 5 and 3 in my opinion
I love the grip and shutter button. Too bad it only works with case. I don’t think I would get that much use out of lenses because I do not shoot many scenic shots but just pictures and video of family. I don’t see such a drastic change with filters on to warrant the heavy price. This video was very informative. If U had any ideas of a minimal grip setup like this that is more universal I would love to hear about it. I did pickup the shutter grip 2 but is all plastic n cheaply made.
You might look at something like this... amzn.to/38b45LN. Not nearly as robust, but has a grip & Bluetooth remote shutter button. There are other similar options out there, too. Btw, haven’t used this but have used Ulanzi products. Some are good and some are just ok.
@@iphoneographers thanks for the reply. Yes, I have some Ulanzi products too. This one looks good. Not as minimum or premium feeling in hand as polar pro grip but I guess U get what you pay for. LoL. Thanks for the suggestion.
As always, Thank You for your great review! I'm thinking about getting the G6 Max..... What's your thoughts on using the hand grip on the G6 Max gimbal? Thanks again. 😊👍
You could do that, but you might want to try a traditional tripod mount as they are probably more secure, especially if you’re mounting accessories - meaning the stability with stuff attached to the phone and then the gimbal. The grip works fine, but just be sure to stress test it. Thanks for watching!
@@iphoneographers As always, Thank You Blake! The biggest reason I thought about the grip being useful on the G6 Max was due to being able to hold the iPhone 13 Pro Max with a case. Looking at your other reviews, I saw that the gimbal phone clamp was really too small but, that could be easily replaced. I defiantly will be using the Litechaser Pro VND filter. Once I have everything in hand I'll be able to make a good judgement. Thanks again for your help and as always, I appreciate all your video's. 😊👍
@@iphoneographers Thank you so much for the reply. Would you happen to know why? It seems to me that the regular iphone 12 and 12 pro/max are the same size, and the spot with the lenses approximately the same size with just 1 less lens on the regular. So I figure the Litechaser case and lens might just fit.... ?
Did you notice flickering in the sky when you record with your iphone? a lot of people have a problem with this recording with hdr on and off. It's called AI tone mapping, it's too aggressive, especially on the iPhone. Do you know how to get rid of it?
It’s the dynamic tone mapping and yes it can be a problem in particular using the native iPhone camera app when shooting motion in high contrast or bright scenes. It’s been around since the iPhone 8 and really got noticeable with the iPhone XS. The latest iPhone 12 has it but it is much better and especially if you use third-party apps like FiLMiC Pro. They can’t turn it off (yet), but they can minimize it somewhat.
I have the Moment case for my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I been using the 58mm Tele. Will this adapter allow me to put on the ND that I already have? And will the filter be blocking the LiDaR?
@@iphoneographers yes, I want to use the filter to reduce the light. I want to do long exposure on waterfalls. But I’m not sure if the adapter will mount to my Moment case?
Are you talking about the Moondog labs filter mount? Sorry kind of confused here. If so, yes it will connect to any bayonet style case like this one shown including Moment.
Do you have a solution for a 77mm Filter to be able to use in iPhone 13Pro? Any product advice for such a situation? Does the Moondog V2A be able to do it in iPhone 13Pro? Can the Moment lens be able to fit the Polar pro litechaser Pro for iPhone 13Pro?
You can use 77mm with the Moondog mount and a step-up ring. The new LiteChaser though for the 13 Pro doesn’t have the same mount as the 12 Pro, which was bayonet. I’m actually working on a video on the latest model, so look for it soon.
It was snug at first, but after a few uses the mount loosened up and works great. Have had some people say they had trouble with the anamorphic in particular, but I have not. And there were a few early units that shipped that were evidently not perfect, but PolarPro replaced those (and they were potentially part of the reviews saying that). Overall I really like it and use it all the time. Btw, if you’re a casual video shooter though you might get a new Moment case (I compare it to PolarPro here)... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-stVJ15qob5s.html
Good timing Blake. I’m about to order a new case and variable ND filter for the iPhone 11 Pro. Quick Question though? Is the grip the same as the grip you get for the 11 Pro Max? In other words do I need to buy a new grip?
The grip appears to be the same. I haven’t tested it back and forth tho. But the grip comes with it and so I don’t think it’s an option not to buy the grip.
Hi Blake! Thanks for putting this together. Another great video as usual! Question: How does this case compare to the Moment Thin Case? Is it about the same size or would you say it's closer to the standard Moment case size? Curious as I really like the Moment Thin case as it's great for mounting in gear like the BeastGrip Pro and Movi Cinema Robot (RIP).
It’s similar. Maybe a tad bit thicker, but not “thick” like many cases. I’ve started using it over the Moment Thin for not only the MagSafe, but the lens mount is metal and so it works A LOT better than Moment’s mount. Lenses are very secure when attached. I really like it a lot and it’s become my EDC case. Thanks for watching!
Would add though that the lens mount is bulkier on the PolarPro because of its more robust construction. If you use lenses much it’s worth it IMO though. If not, the Thin case is nice.
How strong MagSafe is with the case? I use Apple MagSafe charger in my car, so charging the phone without any case is rare for the phone to drop while driving. I have tried many iPhone cases that claim to be MagSafe, but no way the Apple MagSafe charger can withhold the phone steady as compared to without a case. So, I hope this case does have strong magnetics enough to hold the phone upside down.
Unfortunately, no. I’ve tried and it won’t click in to the port. Had a similar issue with the RODE Me-L mic. Need to look if it’s possible to modify it to make it work.
I’m using iPhone 12 Pro Max. Up until now the blootooth button has worked fine! But now it seems to only turn up phone’s volume…… any ideas?? The small light still flashes and it’s still recognised by blootooth
With what camera app? If it’s the native camera you may just need to do a hard restart of the phone or also check the settings. There’s a burst mode connected to the volume keys that might be affecting that.
looks like the BEST thing about the mist filter is that it removes those awful lens flare UFOS we get on this phone. probably the worst thing ive ever seen and ive owned and shot on every iPhone made.
I bought the whole set. I use 7 diffrent app's for picture's/video. With 5 of the app's the bluetooth module doesnt work at all and with the other two sometime the bluetooth module triggers the volume button instead of the shutter. I've send it back, wich is a pitty cause the quality of the rest was good.
In some apps such as Filmic Pro you can set the volume keys to trigger recording and then the Bluetooth does just that. But good to know, thanks for the info.
Does it work in the moment app or filmic pro app?? You said in the bud it was a bit glitchy, had the problem gone or is it still an issue? Thanks dude!
Ha, well it’s a great case & grip for shooting video and stills and importantly it allows you to easily add their VND filter to get proper motion blur when shooting video outside in sunny conditions.
Bought this product on the back of this review - usually solid advice. However, on arrival I discovered Moment Anamorphic lens DOES NOT align with this case. Also the MagSafe strength appears weaker than standard Apple MagSafe cases. Wasted my money. Be aware.
Hi, sounds like you either got a defective case or perhaps you’re not matching the mounted lens to the proper phone lens because all Moment lenses work. Are you using the iPhone 12 Pro Max? Remember if so that the outer lens is the Tele not the Wide like on previous model phones, so perhaps you’re seeing the edges of the lens there because you’re on the wrong lens choice in whatever app you’re using? Hope you get it figured out! This has become my very favorite filmmaking case and use it now with everything. So I’ve had no problems at all including with Magsafe. If it’s defective you should definitely return it. PolarPro has good customer support.
@@iphoneographers Umm confusing. I’m using the correct lens. The case fittings won’t allow the anamorphic lens to turn the full 90 degrees into the slot and fit flush with the case, causing me to see the edges of the lens. I’m using the iPhone 12 Pro Max case. I’ll take your advice and contact Polar Pro for support. It’s reassuring to know the case should work. Many thanks for replying. 👍🏻
@@jlorenz745 All resolved. The case was faulty. I returned to Polar Pro and they exchanged for another. Anamorphic lens fits perfectly this time. Case is great. 👍🏻
I’m really confused, and this confusion really jeopardizing your credibility as a reviewer. If you change in the filter stop by two or even three stops, but you’re not readjusting the exposure triangle, it’s gonna blow out the shot! While not changing the exposure, it looks like there’s something majorly wrong giving the viewer false information!
Well that is the point of the demo to show how it works. When the filter stops down the light it’s exposed properly and so then w/o it the footage is overexposed. With it dialed in you can shoot in bright sun and get proper exposure & motion blur.
@@iphoneographers hmmm…no, you are way off and way wrong. Look, I’m not trying to troll your channel, but you need to Google what a Polarizer, ND and Mist filters actually do - especially when used for video. In short, a Polarizer is to cut glair on water and shiny surfaces and add more saturation, brighter blue in skies, greener greens in trees, etc., NOT stop down light. Also Polarizer ONLY works at 90* to the Sun and at 45* you get 1/2 the effect and at 0* there is no effect. So using them with video can be very tricky and cause a lot of weird issues! They do have their place, and I do use them all the time with photos and video - but you need to know what and when to use them. To stop down light, you would use ND filters for that, but there are specific reasons you would need to stop down light. Like when it’s bright and you want to mainline the shutter speed rule to maintain that cinematic look or wide open apertures fir that creamy bokeh. A Mist filter lowers the contrast and overall highlight intensity of your shot. It creates a dreamy, hazy effect that “blooms” the lighting, nothing to do with swiping down light. In ALL cases, when using a filter and/or adjusting intensity, you MUST adjust exposure, either automatically OR manually.
I’m not wrong at all. This is entertaining though, thanks for the funny thread. Lol. You obviously didn’t watch the whole video. If you would’ve you’d know there is no polarizer/ CP filter used here. The VND and VND Mist were demoed and both reduce the light by 3-5 stops and of course the Mist also creates highlight glow as Grogu showed. The only reason to use ND on a phone is for proper motion blur as the aperture is fixed and so adding ND has zero affect on depth-of-field or bokeh. But you knew that, obviously. And that’s why in the demo I show just how much the VND is knocking the light down - without it everything is overexposed at that ideal shutter speed. Of course when shooting for real you expose the image properly - like in every other shot in the video you didn’t watch.
