I'm glad to see Aidan give Eleanor the credit she deserves. They seem to bring out the best in each other in their roles. As to Demelza's"thing" with Hugh, she said it was over and done with. She learned from it, let it go, and went on with her life. So,I disagree with Aidan when he says it may have gone further had Hugh not died. Ross, unlike Demelza, could never seem to let go of his love for Elizabeth. It didn't seem to matter what she did, he never saw her as anything but perfect. He didn't like her mother and I'm sorry but the nut doesn't fall too far from the tree. A friend of mine said he always wanted to meet the mother of whoever he was interested because it kind of gave him a clue as to what the girl was like. Lol. Maybe something to that.

I love his last comment... "and we grow with them" and how he articulated that Ross had a hard time articulating his emotions... and how he compares Ross to Caroline in that light... Ross and Caroline are my favorite characters of the series.

I just LOVE how he speaks of Eleonor, of what a great actress she is, and their easy relationship. It's really wonderful to hear. Just as she is Demelza, as he said, he is Ross. They're both great. Can't wait for season 5 !!

I am not being mean, but it would be nice if she did the same for him. He is very positive regarding her, however some of her interviews have an underling negative energy. I hope I am wrong about it, but I get that feeling. I love this show and hope it continues as it was from the beginning. Love how Aidan invests in his character and others. He is a great actor!!!!
@marybethwestbrook6870

I have heard her say some very complimentary things about Aidan when she's interviewed by herself. I think she and probably all of the other talented actors on the series get a little frustrated when Aidan's shirtless scenes seem to get all of the attention. They must all get so weary of being asked about the scything scene. I would probably eventually get a little snarky at times, too, if my hard work was being overlooked because he took his shirt off!
@omagosh5137
@omagosh5137 2 года назад
@@marybethwestbrook6870 I agree. Eleanor has said Aidan is handsome but more importantly a great actor. She defends him in the scything scene. The media spoiled the significance of that scene. Eleanor looks absolutely beautiful in that scene and she raises her eyebrow just a tad while looking at him. She does all the little things that say so much. And then to see Elizabeth riding into the scene in the background and knowing she will always be there in Ross's head/heart. I've heard Eleanor say they have a mutual respect and love for one another as actors. Love her! Talented and beautiful.

If Ross thinks Armitage was "a talented young beautiful Bohemian poet" he's really got the wrong end of the stick :-D ! And Armitage's death wasn't the reason the 'relationship ' never went as far as it could have done; Demelza shut it down before he got sick. That's if you can even call it a 'relationship'.

maggie smith ////None of these actors know their characters, if you listen they just pontificate. His immoral, lieing, cheating character is a middled aged adulter who fucked his courtesan mistress and impregnated her, he knew exactly what he was doing and didn't give a shit about Demelza or Jeremy. Hugh, McNeil Ross did nothing when they hit on his wife because Ross didn't think anyone else would want her, he in his blocked, delusional mind thought the only woman men would want would be Elizabeth, that's how flatlined he was. Elizabeth like her port drinking, loud courtesan mother, who raised her was a Margaret in sheeps clothing doing what a courtesan does to dumb suckers, Ross had the hope diamond at home (that is Rosses character) and was to arrogant, pigheaded , morally bankrupt and unrepentant to give a shit and hasn't changed. Here he is a babbling,actor, like all his interviews showing he hasn't a clue about who his character is. DH i assume is a bar stool woman ( The female Harvey Winestein) I would bet on that because there is no other explaination.YUCK for the desperate actors and the staff that witness this POS PRODUCTION.

madame360 This horrid,NONSENSICAL fiction production has been a piece of literary trash from s2 and has suck into the quicksand of nonsensical ,unrealistic, MYSOGINISTIC sewage. The lack of literary prowess has made this production not only a moral toilet but a disgrace to woman, impressional young girls, decent fathers and husbands and makes a mockery of the institution of marriage. I can't believe MASTERPIECE has sunken so low,this production is a literary septic tank, the writing is so dumb even the actors csn't keep straight faces at times,and people watching laugh at the death scenes. DH writing for Aiden makes him look and sound mentally challenged that's how FOS she has his character looking and sounding,not to mention in those rediculous swimming pants handed down to every male in the cast, this bitch is a literary mess a real broken pin in the literary field.

So watch something else. What do you think you'll accomplish with all your whining? You don't have a clue what this show is about. It's a commentary on war and it's aftermath. If you can't see that, you're missing the point. It was written by a surviver of WW2 who had been stationed in Cornwall. No one wants to hear your negative opinions here.

It's just he's got that charisma that Daniel Craig doesn't. To me, James Bond is somebody who looks like Pierce Brosnan or Sean Connery. James Bond is the Gentleman first, 007 second.

Exactly, Aidar, totally, completely, absolutely. LOL I never could figure out the appeal of Daniel Craig. As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't look like James Bond (my first Bond was Sean Connery), and he just doesn't do it for me. I do know someone who thinks he's just great, so I suppose it's a matter of taste. My tastes go more for Aidan, of course. :)

Ernestine, much of what has been portrayed in this story is based on how it was during that period of time. We may not like it and think it is wrong but it may have happened during that time in history. Women did not have many rights and the institute of marriage has always been made a mockery, even still today. Our hearts (men and women) for the most part have not changed much. I think a lot of the negative energy you display is not based on Debbie's writing or Aidan's interview, but it may run a little deeper (hurt you may have experienced in your life). I recognize it, and hear it in your views, we may actually have similar stories. Don’t let negativity or a bad experience rule your life, but, as with anything, learn from it, take the good from it and if possible let it change your life. Be well!!!

Ann Conn, Love nice try,but I have never experienced such gutter behavior and perhaps you should visit a library or two to read that during that century not all women were stupid or desperate as perhaps you are, adultry with a bastard was frowned upon, and if you do not see WG was a twisted MYSOGINIST perhaps that's acceptable behavior from the men in your family or your experiences(you do know this is fiction) There are young ladies and gentlemen watching this sewage, perhaps it's acceptable for your element but I find it irresponsible, unrealistic and downright DISGUSTING FICTION as most lucid individuals do. Ann love, a psychiatrist you aren't (it is the lowest degree one could have, most are nut cases as you've proven) however you just have a problem with the truth, I have no problem with your element thinking the lifestyle of adultry resulting in a bastard means love, I have a problem with twisted people trying to make adultry with a bastard EVER romantic,that to me is subhuman to you IT'S love. DO GET WELL.

@wendyscott8425
@wendyscott8425 5 лет назад
It's not the fault of the "writer." This is an _adaptation_ of novels written by the now deceased Winston Graham. The first novel was published in 1945, which was right after WW2, the author of which had served in that war and had been stationed in Cornwall. This series is a commentary on war, every war. It's not a love story. It's not a romance. It has those elements, but it has much tragedy, almost all of which was because Ross went to war. Debbie Horsfield has done a brilliant job adapting these novels to the screen. If you wanted a different outcome at the end of season 4, you would have had to consult the late Winston Graham, the author of the original books. Debbie was not about to change something so fundamental just because it's unpleasant and makes some viewers sad. Elizabeth's fate is necessary for what happens with the next series of books Graham continued writing after some years of having put the _Poldark_ saga to rest. Anything different, and all those books written later would not have been an accurate continuation of that family's story. What I understand is there is a ten-year gap between the end of the last novel Debbie adapted and the next one, and from hints and discussions of the past in the next novel, she is putting together scripts to take up that ten-year period. I'm very glad because it will mean people who love the novels will essentially get another novel (or two) out of this series and no one will whine about how it was different from the books (as if a screenplay could ever be exactly like the novel it was adapted from). So, enjoy! Stop worrying about the storyline details and understand what the point of the whole thing is. *If Ross hadn't gone to war,* he would have married Elizabeth, never met Demelza, never met Dwight or Caroline, and Francis might still be alive, too, for that matter. In short, nothing would have happened as written in those novels. Everything changed because of the war for this family. Keep that in mind, and you'll figure out just about everything.

@limelight1397 5 лет назад
@@wendyscott8425 Wendy, I love your comment. But it is a love story too. It is about the growing love between Ross and Demelza. A love that got stronger while time is ticking away. Those two are bound together in body and soul. That love story keeps people watching because everyone wants to have what they have.
@wendyscott8425
@wendyscott8425 5 лет назад
Oh, I agree with that, Limelight. We're all very interested in their story, of course. But I wouldn't call it a romance exactly, having read a jillion of those. It goes past all that and deals with life. What a story!
@limelight1397
@limelight1397 5 лет назад
@@wendyscott8425 Yes it deals with life. The most difficult part of love is the commitment between the people who have this love and fight together to keep that love between them as Ross and Demelza does. Romance is hard to find in a time where poverty around casts a shadow. But the moments are there. A story based on real life even today.
