Pole Fishing Side Puller Kit Test - With a Few Fish to Pull the Elastic. Last week I fitted some new Side Puller Bushes to my pole to replace the old Puller Bung which came out of the bottom of the top two sections.
This week I am testing the new Side Puller Kit down at Den's Pond. Have a look at the video to see how I did.

Yes it does Geoff. I'm very pleased with the entire project. I have only had to make a couple of small changes overall.

yup a puller kit is pretty essential..i had a crash course into the world of poles on a fishery and 100lb plus bags of carp to 14-16lb barbel to 6..tench crustians everthing but never landed the dreaded 26lb cat fish..(2.8lb-3.8lb bottom..got to get the length right with scales on a peace of your mainline and pull till it snaps, read of on the scales.) but sheesh had it on multiple times, thats when i discovered what pole guys were calling 'sit n hold'.. anything thats to big or foul hooked will give you a weird feeling that that aint good, if you lift or pull or switch hands etc the peeee-own float in face occurs, if you literally sit...and just hold the tip about the surface of the water and literally dont move the pole, let the elastic do what ever it can and you quite often get them in, but...just lifting or lowering a bit and peeeeee-own yu floats coming back. seems a couple inch eather way is enough of an angle diference to ruin the stretch strength..may sound daft but the fish has already pulled your pole to where its 'strongest' already...thats when yu know its serious lol.(it's done for yu basically).

oops missed a bit..thats with the pole sections on...after your down to the top kit its all on the puller lol...1 hour an ten minutes on a foul hook with no puller on the top kit, or ten mins all in with a puller..i thought it was quite noticeable.

Nice day out with the pole. Looked like a fair sized fish breaching the surface behind you on the other side of the pond at 1:00. Do you get any English Perch (Redfin) up there?

No mate. I'm afraid not. I used to live in Goulburn. There are plenty of Perch there, so I'm thinking next time I pass through I might give it a go for them.

Another great vid. I still cannot justify the cost of a pole (Always broke) But I do see the advantage in them. One thing that I have always wondered about is? I have seen a guy fish at PaCkington with a standard rod and a Carp went at such a rate it took his whole rod into the lake and he lost it! Could the end be pulled off if a very big fish just went straight out? The one more cast is never going to end a good day is it?

Thanks Phillip. To be honest, I enjoy fishing with a Waggler rod more these days anyway. I've never seen the end of a pole be pulled off if a fish runs straight out. There is always a little bit of a bend and that seems to hold everything together fine.

@@FishingwithDen I have always wondered if it has happened? Trouble when you have an underactive body and an overactive mind ;)

I once turned my back on my feeder rod that was on two rests at the time only took two seconds and it was gone in the lake, luckily we set up a heavy feeder rod with a big led on it and managed to hook up the tethered fish with the rod and luckily got both out. Since that episode I never leave a rod in the water if I can't grab it straight away. They don't mess about do carp 3lb fish will take your rod with no hassle.

Hi den not telling you how to suck eggs but you can use a lot lighter elastic with a side puller I can land ten pound carp on 8. 10 elastic and 0.10 bottom in the summer they seem to pull harder on bigger elastic

Hi Neil. Thanks for the advice. I used the 14-16 because that was the equivalent of my solid elastic, but I will definitely look into using lighter elastic.

@@FishingwithDen I used to think na that carnt be right but I have found the lighter the elastic with a side puller I land more big fish without them bow waving out of the swim it does take a bit longer to land the biggest fish I landed was a 14 lb mirror on a 6-8 elastic and 0.11 size 18 b911 once again I hope I don't come across as I'm telling you how to suck eggs 👍

@@neilmurphy9926 No worries Neil. I have to admit that I would be very hesitant about trying a 6-8 elastic and an 0.11 bottom for bigger Carp in Summer, but having said that, I remember a many years ago anglers were using Number 6 solid elastic at Morlands Farm. The trouble was that the pegging was quite close, so it was all a bit frantic trying to keep your fish out of next doors swim. Lol.

@@FishingwithDen yes that the trouble if pegging is close fish wondering into other pegs ,in summer I tend to fish 8-10 at tunnel mainly F1 match fishing I wouldn't set up for proper carp with 8_10 in summer but I would use 10 12 no higher that has landed 10lb plus no problems with side puller bottom would be 0.13 and I never had a break in open water snaggy pegs I would use .015. bottom to 0.18 map pole rig line great stuff , as I've said before the hybrid elastic is great long lasting with the stretch of hollow ,I've a match on Monday at tunnel and it's that time of year when things are changing I use 4_6 elastic to 015 main line 0.10 0.11 bottom b911 or black Gama size 16,18,20 , bet it's great in Oz with the warm weather I have arthritis and the cold is a nightmare but I still go back for more 😃
