About the cramped driver seat sensation, I would say that the design is well considered by Polestar and really creates a feeling of being part of the machinery with all commands and controls close to the driver just like a pilot. I’m enjoying every meter and minute I’m driving the car. Coming from an e-tron before this one.
A good thing that you will find on Volvos and i guess Polestar too and not on any other cars is that on the back of the rails for the front seats you will find metal loops for which to hook up non isofix seat straps which then makes it possible to fit child seats (we use rear facing child seats until the child is at least 4 years in Sweden because it’s safer) that take much less space than the bulky isofix ones. There is also hooks for straps in the footwell on the front passenger side aswell as (optional on some models) isofix for the front seat. As a father of 3 i dearly miss this in my Tesla… there are third party solutions but they are not safety approved. Volvo makes the easiest cars to live with when you have small kids.
Dear Thomas Ingenlath, 1- That piece of plastic around the center console is really unnecessary and is in the way. I did a test drive in Polestar 2 for one hour. I have long legs and my knee was pressing against that plastic thing. 2- The gear selector does not need that much space. 3- The vertical screen is not a good solution, because the driver needs to look down to see it. Make the screen horizontal like Tesla and move it upward. That would free up space in the front. However, I am not sure if the Google operating system is optimized for horizontal screens.
@@Alekpowah Thomas Ingenlath is a designer himself; copying Tesla is an insult to him. Polestar 2 has some advantages over Tesla Model 3: 1- Windows with frames. The frameless windows in Tesla are not my favorite. 2- Polestar is 10 cm shorter than Model 3. It is easier to drive in tight spaces. 3- 360 cameras in Polestar are very handy when parking. 4- Polestar has an instrument cluster in front of the driver which does not exist in Model 3. 5- Polestar has slightly more ground clearance compared to Model 3, 15 cm vs 14 cm. 6- Polestar has a more stylish exterior design.
@@Alekpowah Absolutely NOT to copy Tesla. We have Tesla already for those who like that kind of design and stuff ... others please do not follow Tesla and give us something different.
@@sampovaljus6230 Same for me, the M3 were to open. I felt disconnected to the car. The Polestar invited me to come in, and caressed me as I sat down and closed the door. Like a fluffy blanket, I became part of the car. The M3 were more, here sit on this wodden 3-leg visitors chair at the dentist.
Regarding the rear seat heaters, it is difficult for the driver to tell if they are on, but can be turned off via voice control, no need to be in the back to adjust...
Re back up camera, mine doesn't default to the 360 degree view...re seat material, I got the ventilated leather(yes it is real, very nice leather, super soft), well worth it. Re cup holders, I don't mind folding back the cover, have no problems holding two drinks, but rarely have to. And regarding the cramped feeling, I like resting my knee on the right side with the pocket, and like the cockpit feeling in the driver seat, which is the only seat I use ;)
Theres quite a few now. basically most reviewers above 6ft I'm average height 178cm so i could fit in fine but it just felt more cramped than it need to be. That is one of the negatives of this car for me, Im going to check out the Volvo equivalents. They've all had a nice range bump since this video.
5:30, these seat heaters are for the rear seat passengers, the driver doesn't need to adjust them! ;-) If they act as in my Volvo they need to be activated at each trip, they will not be kept on forever until someone switch them off.
I completely agree that the car is cramped. Otherwise a nice car. That console takes up so much space for basically nothing. They need to follow Mercedes with the shifter on the stick. That could give room for plenty of cup holders.
0:58 it is a tool to be able to tow a car or to be toed. every car has one it is mandatory . both the front and rear bumper will have a hole hidden by a plastic tap. You screw it inside, take a rope and you tow the car. on the polestar the rear one is on the right at the bottom of the bumper
None of my business, but the interior, and the ”cramped” driving position are just perfect, and possibly the most important reason to choose Polestar 😎👍
I just test drove the 2023 AWD Polestar 2. I really really wanted to love the car. The drive itself was great but I will be looking elsewhere for one huge reason.. the lack of driver seat comfort. I felt really cramped the entire time. There is very little room for your legs to move side to side.. and when I am stuck in traffic or on a long drive, I like to rest my non driving leg. Not in this car. I also don’t like the control buttons on the door. I had to reach back a little to use them.. not comfortable at all and only having one drink holder since the second one is all but useless means my passenger would have to hold their drink on a long trip. There are some other little dislikes such as hitting my head each time I enter and exit the vehicle. If I am going to pay that much money for a new EV, I want every aspect of the car to feel comfortable. If this car was priced like a Chevy Bolt, I could learn to live with these drawbacks but not where the price is currently. I so wanted to buy this car. 😢
I didn’t feel cramped in any of my test drives and am average height, so maybe I just sit weird. That said, totally understand how that could be annoying, people should definitely test drive before buying.
In this case, choose another model. For many of us who own one, that's one of the reasons we chose it: The "Cockpit" feeling that this car gives us. This is a driver's car, not an SUV or super practical family car. There's a Polestar 3 coming out later that will fulfill that purpose.
Well, i own a PS2 since september 2020 and i am still happy with it. That shows that it's a matter of taste if someone thinks the console is a no-go or not. 🤷🏼♂️
@@JohnDoe-vx3z That may be the case for some people, especially for people who are over 1.85 m tall or people who sit legs apart in their seat. - But these people are not targeted by the car's developers, i think. There will be other PS-models in the near future that will fit your needs in a better way than a PS2.
Not sure you still wonder about the "weapon", but its a tool to use when u need to tow the car, you attach it to the front behind a small hatch and then you can use it to tow the car with a rope or such.
The back windows only going 60 % down is an old Volvo-thing. Safety thing to make it harder for kids to stick their head and limbs out. Been like that since atleast the Volvo 240-era mid 70's.
Tomorrow I have booked a test drive with the single motor version, small battery. I think that is the best quality you can get for the money, including you will get the car at the end of May.(pre production) 7,4sec from 0 to 100km/h for me is enough to have fun and the seats are textile...like it. Would be nice to see also tests with BEVs not the max version.
Yes this is an issue with all manufacturer supplied test vehicles, their specced up to the max and it gives you little clue about what's possible without all options and big batteries that most people in daily life don't need!
I tested a dual motor with a friend of mine two weeks ago. Same feeling. It makes you feel cramped. The rear window is just a joke. Acceleration is super good but the car is heavy. Tested many Evs recently. Model 3 single motor was the easiest to drive probably because of a good combination of power, weight and the design
I have spent 400km as a front seat passenger in my friends Polestar2. I found It cramped and the seat so uncomfortable that after 100k I just wanted to get out. The ride is hard as well. It is also a beautiful car, well appointed and well finished. His is a base model front wheel drive and was $70000 Australian which is expensive here.
@@bjornnyland cool. This means that the Polestar 2 can take at least 60kg more than my Ioniq 5 P45. The vehicle cards gives a different story, they can’t be trusted.
As you said in the driving impressions video. Tesla doesn't have that easy access to isofix thing for baby sit alike polestar. I think this is some American thing to dont make it easy. I had ford mondeo before and now I have chevrolet cruz and any of this car didn't have isofix that easy as polestar and volvo cars.
@@realMysta I agree. The Precept was stunning, ground up designed EV, so the non-dedicated EV platform shortcomings of the Polestar 2 will be overcome.
I am sure while this is technically true only 'compromise' which is real downside is less efficiency than Model 3. Although I am not sure if that has much to do with the platform. I quess just more inefficient drive train.
100% agree, i love the look of the polestar and the performance is great but the interior is so cramped. Between that and the poor range i couldnt justify getting one over a model 3 LR.
Exactly. I ordered the PS FWD, then cancelled at the last minute just because the additional real world 150 km range added with a LR 3 is too good for almost the same price.
@@omarbabakarkhail matching feature for feature the polestar 2 is more expensive cause you need the plus package and AWD to match the LR for performance and features. Im loving my model 3 but until the price drops back to what it was start of the year and they add back in the connectivity features without charging you I'd say skip it and get a Kia or Hyundai.
@@HelloMyFriend_ It is left over from the ICE design, but part of the battery pack is there instead of under your feet, allowing for lower floor in the rear
Hey björn, the metall "thing" you find in the frunk is for towing the car. You can remove a lid in the front and the back of the car and then attach it to the car.
Transportögla is the word for the thing you found in the frunk. It is for towing and securing the vehicle during transport. You can screw it in the front or in the back.
I still choose the Model 3. Not that I think that it's better looking, but it has better stats and simply a better thought out interior. I use the iso-fix in the Model 3 a lot. Maybe not as visible as in the Polestar, but in practice you simply know that they're there and you don't actually have to fiddle a lot with it; you just push the seat in and it clicks right in. No problem. For me the shaft housing in the back was a disappointment and also the somewhat dumb design of the cup holders. On long rides with your partner it kinda sucks when you only have one cupholder. Polestar is better looking; Model 3 is better use.
The headroom in the back is really bad. In the Netherlands it is more of an exception that people (men) are below 180. 185 or taller is normal. By the looks of it, this is basically the reason I won't buy it. I can't bring my friends or family with me....
I’m 183 cm and sat in the back, behind my own driver seat position. It’s not too bad, but you can only fit 2 adults in the back and none of them will be fully comfortable. I kind of had to sit at an angle because the side of my head kept hitting the roof.
I checked out the car here in Sydney. I don’t understand how such a big car can have such a small cramped cabin. Totally unacceptable for me. Too claustrophobic, both front and back. That huge transmission tunnel is so ICE. Polestar has quite a long way to go if it wants to compete with the Model 3 or the Koreans
@@realMysta For me front is also just fine (I am not tall). I like it more than 'too open' space in some other cars. If I want a lot of space I will stay in my living room sofa. And yes hatch is great and generally car feels pretty solid. I do not care transmission tunnel. I do not sit at back. One thing I would miss from Model 3 is efficiency, but not sure if anything else.
"cramped" TRANSLATION: "compact, manueverable, and sporty". the little understood benefit of the CMA platform is it creates a BEV with a wheelbase exactly the same as both the Rimac Nevera (107in/2717mm) and the Corvette C8 (also 107in/2717mm). for reference that's a whopping 7in/177mm shorter than an Ioniq5, 6in/152mm shorter than a Model 3 and 5in/127mm shorter than a BMW i4, as such the Polestar2 makes no pretentions about being a "limousine". so if you desire the "excess" of a 5-Door Crossover that's borderline TOO BIG to fit in your garage...? or drive down a narrow country lane...? as you see the other manufacturers are giving us PLENTY of options. #CMA
@@GregHassler re: "Has an unnecessary transmission tunnel taking up interior space." has a NECESSARY transmission tunnel that not only historically increases torsion/rigidity aiding chassis tuning/handling dynamics, but now doubles as valuable "centralized" space for batteries (also aiding chassis/tuning handling dynamics). again this would be SAME as the design brief Mate Rimac did (deliberately) for the redesigned Carbon Monocoque of the NEVERA Supercar and GM did for aluminum chassis of the Corvette starting all the way back with the C6 ZO6 circa 2006. unfortunately laymen working outside the Automotive and Engineering sectors (and those on the Internet inclined to simply "parrot" and "repeat" what they read/hear) will naturally NOT have any understanding of this. #THEMOREYOUKNOW
I don't understand why Volvo made a whole brand for electric cars when they also make Volvo electric vehicles and the Polestar's aren't even any better?
Somewhat different positioning in the market. Polestar's will be more sporty than Volvo's. Like Polestar 3 is more sporty than new XC90 (whatever the name will be), which technically same car. So cars for different taste.
Shifter is just fine and in very usable place. No issue at all in practise. And it is super impossible to mix driving direction with that kind of shifter, which seems not be the case in cars where shifter is less logical to operate next to steering wheel.
ridiculously long hood on ev like i4.. makes the interior cramped. this it not optimized around ev but must be an ev retro fit car. Also middle gear shifter takes up too much valuable space.. should be shifiting stock, a fossil of manual ice transmissions.
The frunk is so tiny it's a joke. The car is crap, because: stupid design, too cramped, very ugly gear-lever, heavy & too expensive. Polestar Precept is better, but i choose Tesla any day. Fool-star hehe.
