I work in a Polestar Space in the US, and I have to say that not only was this by far the longest review I've watched on our Polestar 2, but it's the most in depth review by miles! You went into some details which are only briefly touched upon in our training, and I'm incredibly impressed with your attention towards being unbiased in your presentation. I genuinely wish more reviewers took your approach to vehicles, as most consumers look at cars as appliances, and not how myself or your cameraman seem to view them. I think I enjoyed listening to you more than Jay Leno, Doug DeMuro, or even Tyler Hoover! Needless to say, I've subscribed!
SEE LEE! Jonathan called me a CAMERAMAN! mwa ha haaa... (And you can't handbrake turn a toaster...) But really, thanks Jonathan, I agree with your sentiment on Lee's approach!
I have the Polestar 2….with all packages.. I love it . I previously had a Model Y and Model 3….there is no turning back for me. You did a great review! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you so much
The second i hear packages i opt out. Thats why i love tesla, you choose model and that's it. Sure you got long range and performance but not bullshit 100 options etc. You get full option always, and shit like FSD u can add later.
I recently upgraded from a model 3 to my Polestar 2, and im still amazed at the differences. After spending 3 months in mine, their really is no comparison between the 2, hands down the Polestar is Amazing, the Polestar is a drivers car, It drives like its spent time at a tuners shop. : )
Just started the video, but I will say from the start, I do love the look of this car. I have a Model 3, but Polestar 2 was just below that for me. Beautiful look inside and out.
@user-sx1jz4lk4g sorry but saying nowadays, that a car is shit, only because it is made in CHINA is a complete non sense. where do you think most of the cars are produced nowadays including a very big portion of the so beloved Tesla's?... CHINA VW, Audi, Skoda, Porsche, BMW, Ford are only a few of the brands that have 1 or more models that are produced in China. Actually the location where they are produced is not relevant anymore. It's just a location. Quality has nothing to do with the location anymore. An iPhone is produced in China as well. Is it shit for that?? I don't think so. But the most funny part of it is that your Volvo XC40 Recharge is actually produced in Ghent, which is in Belgium and not China. So maybe you should blame Belgium for it rather than China. Also rust on a Volvo/Polestar? Seriously? Maybe a Tesla but not a Polestar. You should be really fine with your XC40.
I bought a Polestar 2 a few months ago and it arrives in 2 weeks. I have watched every RU-vid video on the Polestar 2, and although the new 2024 model has some small changes, this is still by far the best review/overview out there! Having an Android phone I'm glad that won't be a problem for me. ;)
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment. 🙏🏻😀 I’m so glad you found the video helpful. I should be heating one of the update versions in a month or two to have a look at. A bit late I know, but better than nothing. 🤷🏻♂️😉
14:56 the left right arrows on the driving wheel are for the LIM function and ACC (adaptive cruise control). If you click on it while you are on speed limiter (LIM), then it automatically switches the speed limitation based on the speed limit road signs (ex. road sign is 30km/h, the car won't go any faster than that, until it reads another road sign (or GPS information), in which case it will automatically modify the speed limit). It's actually super handy in big cities with speed limitation changing every 5s and speed traps every 50m (which you have in certain cities in Europe). So i love this feature because it allows you to drive smoothly, without caring too much on the speed you are. Such a stress relieve in certain areas. It's actually quite a hidden feature (even thought you do get a little icon on the instrument cluster), no car reviewer ever explained that (and i have seen many for this car before buying it). If you click it while on ACC, then it switches from normal adaptive cruise control to adaptive cruise control with steering wheel assistance.
Interesting, I thought that function was on by default. I should probably do a bit of a deeper dive into the manual next time. Thanks for letting me know. ☺️
It's amazing how often that shirt gets noticed! I was going through security at Auckland airport once on a layover and the guy behind me noticed it. Such a small world. 🤣
Thanks. Yes there’s quite a few nice features coming in the 2024 model. Hoping to get one of those too to have a look at. May not be for a while though.
Tell you what....you have done an amazing job of going through the vehicle...you said the seats don't go flat....no one else has mentioned this...thanks so much 😀
I'm just about to get one as a company car, what's the car like with no packs. Mine will have no packs too. What's the range like, I'm coming from a Tesla Y. Cheers
@@Ultrarunnerdad Summer I probably get 240 of the 270 supposed mileage, winter 220. Never driven a Tesla so can’t compare but I will most probably buy one of these when I retire which I guess says how much I like it
This might be my first ever RU-vid comment, but I just had to comment. This is such an incredibly thorough and entertaining review, and it gave me a bunch of new insights while I wait for my P2 to arrive. Even if you never do another Polestar video, I will likely keep watching, since I love your style.
Seat memories are for when the car is serviced, and they always bugger them up. Cup holders should not be used on the move, so not really an issue. But this is without a doubt the best type of car overview. Yes everyone can do the basics of the reviewing. But only here do you get a proper explanation of the functionality. Well done.
Will be seriously looking at the polestar 2. The lease on our model 3 runs out in the summer. Love the model 3 BUT won’t be leasing a new one mainly because of the lack of stalks for indicating. Absolute no-go in countries with roundabouts. Great informative video btw.
That's fair and the Polestar is a lovely car. I would still suggest you test drive the new Model 3. I was ready to really not like the indicators as buttons for loads of reasons. Now I've only sat in one for about 5 minutes, but I was pleasantly surprised how nice it actually felt to use the indicator buttons. Though I didn't have a chance to try them in a round about, so that could still be a deal breaker for a lot of folks.
Great overview! I've been looking at a 2023 Polestar. As "not a car guy" myself, I felt like this overview really spoke to me - except your thoughts on the gold seatbelts. They're kind of an eyesore to me! haha, but I definitely appreciate the perspective from a "not car guy".
@@notacarguy_au haha totally. I can't fault you for your bad opinions 🤣 just kidding. Hey, do you mind if I ask how tall you are for reference? A number of other youtubers were saying the Polestar was small - I'm 5'9" and I didn't think it was too bad.
@@MackNJeeves You know what they say about opinions? 😉 I'm about 5"4 so not very tall at all. But my mate Simon is 6"2 I think and he didn't really have any issues with the Polestar. If you wanna get an idea of how he fit in it, you can watch the two other videos we did with it on the road trip to and back from Sydney. I would defiantly recommend you take one for a test drive and see how you feel about it. ☺
I've been driving a Tez M3LR for the last 2+ years (UK based) and am actively thinking of moving to Polestar. I have a test drive booked for a few days' time and in the meantime have been watching may videos on UChoob about the 2023/4 versions. This is by far the best one that I've watched and it has filled in loads of gaps about various bits and bobs that others have failed to cover - and it makes me want one more than ever. Well done, Lee, this review is all the better for you not being a petrolhead or whatever the BEV equivalent is!
I'm just surprised you could reach the screen to adjust yourself back up to 'Lee Sized' driving position! 🙈 Great fun helping out with this mate, hope to help in more to come!
😀 By far the most entertaining and informative video I've seen on the Polestar 2. Thanks for the information and the smiles. Two things: 1) That beeping sound that goes off when the traffic signal turns green - I need to have that in everybody elses' car! 🤣 2) At least in the US for the 2024 version, the 360 degree camera is standard, not in the Plus package.
Thanks, Glad you found it entertaining and educational, totally my goal. ☺️ I think they've added quite a few things in the 2024 model. I should ask Polestar to have a play with one.
I've been an owner for 2.5 years in the USA and as another "vertically challenged" driver, I find the car fits me quite well. One small comment on the folding mirrors - while I agree that they maybe should fold further, they actually fold to the point where they don't extend past the sides of the car with the intent being that something passing the car would hit the wheel arches before the mirrors. If you crouch down and stare straight down the side or were to a drone shot from directly above, the folded mirrors don't extend past the wheel arches.
Yeah, I can see that. I guess it's also looks to the naked eye that they don't go in that much. Still really like how the mirrors are kinda "sealed". That's a really nice design feature.
Thanks for the detailed response 🎉. Maybe , in braking terms, 80-0, 60-0, are reasonably practical braking distances as they , certainly the 60-0 is very common. Yes, I would seek to basically set as many controls e.g demist for winters and, away from vehicle air-conditioning in summer. However, after watching quite a few YT videos, it seems many of the more volume EV manufacturers, basically configure their software such that all controls revert to default when vehicles are turned off. That shouldn't be a difficult fix, and we need to remember that these are still the early days for EV'S, hybrids are of no interest to me. Keep up the good, practical, work.
Having not look at any non electric cars in ages I wonder if they too are going more "touch screen, than buttons" and this is a overall car trend and not just in EVs?
Have enjoyed this and the other reviews I have watched. Only been looking at EV's - not interested in hybrids, for a month or so. The one comment that applies to virtually every review, is the amount of time/attention, given to the screen/screens in these vehicle. Whilst the following comment may be counter intuitive for an EV, really, in an ICE it is just so, so much faster just twirling a few knobs to control air conditioning, heating/cooling and more, rather than having to dive into a series of screen based menus. Sure, it would not be that difficult to adjust to, however one aspect that concern me is the amount of time a driver would be distracted from simply looking at the road ahead- to my mind, this is a significant safety issue. Also, I don't ( and will never) own an iPhone, and many of the new released EV's seem focussed on an Iphone connected interface, and method of controlling various vehicle functions. Yes, appreciate that this lovely Polestar 2, clearly showed an ability to mate with Android phones. Also, whilst appreciating you are not the EV equivalent of a petrol head ( will have to coin a term for the EV era !), given the Performance Cred of the Polestar 2, would have loved your commentary on its acceleration performance , 100-0 braking and noise levels in the car + car comfort ride on the various modes available. This is intended as constructive commentary, as I believe that others may share , at least some, of the questions leading to my questions. Looking forward to more of your reviews, and am about to head to Sydney Melbourne video, though, tbh, for longer distance driving, would probably catch a plane !
I think you make a fair point about the screens. Though this can be mitigated in many vehicles as those functions can be controlled and adjusted via voice prompts. It's just a matter of remembering that you can use the voice assistants rather than having to touch the screens. The iPhone issue is not an issue at all as I believe all cars that support the iPhone Carplay function also support the Android Auto function. I am not a confident enough driver to test 100-0. Perhaps one day if I go to defensive driving course and learn how to do those sorts of things. But it's not my cup of tea. 🤷🏻☺️ For this same reason I don't think my opinion on the acceleration and performance would have been that helpful. As I don't know enough to have a well informed opinion on things like that. And I think there is already more than enough uninformed folks on the internet with opinions. 🤣 In regards to comfort, I found it very comfortable, but again, I am no expert. Hope you enjoy some of my videos. ☺️
Memory seat buttons on the door so you can adjust the seat before you get in... great at preventing the knee crushing squeeze i have to perform after my short queen partner has driven our car. 😂
Luckily for me, my wife and I are both short. 🤣 but I still really like the seat moving back to let me out as I need the seat quite a bit forward to reach the pedals. 🤣
My wife also dislikes the lack of 'oh Jesus bars' in our Model Y 😆 If we didn't need the space we'd have probably ended up with the Polestar 2. I drove a friends and it was just too compact for us. Shame about the pricing on the Polestar 3.
I love that name, a "oh Jesus bars". 🤣 Not that I think it's needed. Yes a shame about the price of the Polestar 3, it does look really nice. Though again, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for and so it's not going to be cheap. 🤷🏻
19:16 you had my same idea. I also didn't like to have the wire laying around into my volume button and gear selector. Only that i chose the other pocket. There is another hidden pocked on the opposite side of the driving seat. You can put it there and then you don't have to deal with the wire anymore. Much better. Although i must warn you that by doing that, there is the risk that you touch the leg of the passenger. And if it is not your wife or girlfriend or whatever. You might get into some kind of trouble if you don't warn her before doing the little "adjustment". You might want to warn her if you don't want to get accused of sexual harassment🤣
You could also simply ask the person in the passenger seat to pass you your phone. 😉 Which of course you would only do once you’ve stopped driving as you don’t need to touch your phone whilst driving. ☺️
The over the air and always in connectivity does provide advantages, it also means they can turn off features at a whim and move to a subscription model for features such as heated seats, cruise control etc. This is not a good thing as this is just revenue grabs.
Yes, that is possible, but since that hasn't happened yet or even been suggested by the company, I am going to go with it being a good thing for now? 🤷🏻
It may seem cool to get regular software updates to improve an EV's performance, but the downside is that EVs are particularly susceptible to malware, hacking, and security breaches. However conscientious a manufacturer may be in trying to address these risks, there is no guarantee of success where other businesses (even financial institutions) have occasionally failed.
That is a fair concern, but I would say they are far less vulnerable than most things. I don't know this for a fact, but would assume it's rather closed loop. So the cars won't accept an update from anything that isn't signed correctly. One would hope these types of things have been thought of. Nothing is 100% secure, but I think at least for now the closed system nature of it would be fairly ok? 🤷🏻
I'm an EV6 driver, currently renting the polestar2. I'm not a fan. Really uncomfortable to drive and weak driver assist. Why is the left arm rest so far forward and the right arm rest so far back???
Yeah, that centre console design has some "interesting" choices. 🤣 I take it you're enjoying the EV6? I am trying to find the right person at KIA to talk to about getting one of those in for a video too. ☺️
Bro can I ask a question, I’m being offered a 2021 model year with 12k km, every single package dual motor top of the line and everything for 49,550$ Canadian. Should I pull the trigger? It’s a bit old but for this price is there anything better?
I’m sorry, but I really wouldn’t want to say either way. I don’t know what features and needs are important for you and I have no idea what the market is like in Canada in terms of price. That’s sounds like a pretty good car and setup. But I’ve no idea if that’s a good price or not for Canada. 🤷🏻♂️ I guess you could look around at what they are going for and if it’s a reputable place that is selling it? I know that’s not too helpful but hope it helps a bit. 😀
I don’t have strong opinions one way or the other about the key. I assume if I owned one I would use the app on my phone as the key and so wouldn’t really need to be concerned about it?
Well you are not a car guy are you , so great review and therefore fair enough. I would only buy a Tesla now if there would be no better option in the market and there are many. But being a nerd on wheels? Go for the Tesla
@@tigertoo01 unfortunately its polarized - like our societies got more polarized which is really not good and we should all reach out and fight against it. There are Tesla Fanatics on one side and Tesla haters on the other side - also because of it. For me a car can be bought by emotion - because I love it, or just as an appliance. In the mid range the 2 Teslas are for me market leading - M3 and Y for now.
After I saw the prices, I stopped the video right there. The Model Y is much cheaper and affordable price for me than this EV. I don't care what features it has on it. End of story.
