Given the kind of the scum that these officers have to deal with? It might as well BE. You are aware that here in Vegas, we deal with a lot of gangs right? MS-13, Crips, Bloods, etc; all of whom are actually more well armed than the officers themselves. So frankly I don't see why this is a problem, after all, we can't deploy our own military inside of our borders to take care of the trash (IE: Gangs) so we need our officers to be able to handle it.
