I was thinking the same thing. The shoppe inside could have a fund bucket for people to contribute to a treat fund for the horses insead. The horses would be given treats when off duty by the caretakers.
Yes. People should not be allowed near the horses. In fact, in one of the episodes, I saw a man put his hand near the horse's nose, and the horse staggered back. It was only because the guard pulled the reins that he stood up again. Quite scary. The man was wearing a hood, so I couldn't see his face. Perhaps John who is filming the episodes could tell us what happened.
Like many tourists, they think because they are on holiday, they can do as they pleas. Here in Southsea, us locals have problems with tourists blocking the whole width of the promenade. Other mobility scooter users and myself go at normal walking speed, stopping at a blockage. We will say "excuse me please " and often get a mouthful of abuse culminating in "I'm on holiday bringing money to this place ". Fine mate's but I live here and have an appointment.
The Police horses you can't touch them at all i think you have to ask permission my cousin and her husband were horse poilce there and no one touched the Horses. Thay get spooked vey easily
You are right. Like we say in the USA always a bad apple in the bunch and people are stupid. No matter where you come from to go to a different country as adults they need to show respect to their country. So if the adults act wrong guess what their kids act like. I never been to the UK would love to meet all the horses and their guardsmen that are with them 29:44
@@msfrred1st I get the exact same I live in Mevagissey Cornwall it’s as if they have a different head on the holiday head exempt from any rational thinking or manners walk blindly in the middle of the road expecting any cars to wait until they have decided what restaurant or shop to go in. I have to laugh better than losing it after all “holiday head is on”
That woman sitting on the ground bk resting ballard is is the one who gave food to horse she has been in video before ....doing the same ... before any one jumps yes trooper could have given permission ....however didn't see it this time or last time ... I agree with others horse on duty do not feed it be like giving a troop on duty a sandwich ...
You should NEVER give anything to eat to any horse with a bit in its mouth. The bit will unseat causing rubbing and pain in the mouth. It can also rub against the teeth damaging them and the gums.
Can you imagine the trouble you'd be in if you did that to a Chinese soldier? They do that to our soldiers because they'd be severely punished if they did it to theirs. I was loudly shouted at because I went in to Tiananmen Square when it was closed.
Well some people just don't get it and theres an sign right there say don't touch the riengs and they do it any ways i don't blame the horses for bitting and kicking and the Guard to yell cause they are doing and eveyday job.
It should be MANDATORY not to feed the horse for security reasons. There’s a Life Guard that did not allow a kid to feed the horse. He seems innocent but in my opinion, you can’t be too careful these days. The Guard did the right call…
A cordon would not work. The horses are unpredictable, if they bolt the horses, riders or public can be injured. Plus that pavement is also a public right of way
They are not Japanese. After a good look, I'd say Chinese! I've noticed that most of them are rude and very stupid when it comes to Western manners and ways!
My late husband used to ride an 18+ hands horse. One day riding down a wooded slope, the horse slipped, and fell The horse fell straight onto him, and then rolled fully back over onto to him. After a bit of scuffling the horse unhurt managed to get to his feet. My husband gingerly got up, fully expecting some broken bones, but he was unharmed. He said he thought his time had come!!! Looking down he could see his complete outline pressed down into the leaf mould, just like a Snow Angel!
The reason this horse is foaming at the mouth is because it is difficult for a horse to eat with a bit in his mouth so they end up foaming. I never give my horses a treat when they have a bit in their mouth. This could be why he is snorting.
Have tried watching a lot of these Chanel’s based around horse guards. Given up, they are boring and uninformative. You are my favourite and the only one I watch now. Thank you for your time and content. If you know or speak to any of the troopers, please thank them not only for their service but also for their patience when dealing with the idiots.
I have noticed that the horses that have a melt down have been mauled by the tourists. How would they like to be petted on the face by hundreds of people every hour that they are working.
Possibly not , the majority of people have never had the opportunity to see a horse in the flesh only on tv or films , that's why they have no idea how to behave so as not to scare or annoy the horse .
Those who have never had contact with a working horse or any horse for that matter, have no idea how dangerous a panicking or annoyed horse can be. It's very different from teaching manners and obedience than it is for the majority of pet dogs.
Thank you John for the filming of Q10 walking across the yard he moved so graceful into the stables. Lovely graceful carriage holding his head up high. He is one of the best looking horses in H cav. Thank you gor getting that. 😊
Tourists appear to be dumber this season, judging by those two Asian ladies. Also, parents are getting pretty careless by sticking their toddlers in front of a giant horse to take a picture. I guess you leave common sense behind when on vacation, lol. Thanks for sharing, John.
And in the past couple of weeks there have been several children separated from their parent/guardian. Who takes their eyes off a child in a crowded place full of strangers?
John This is Q10!!!! You are totally wright😊 In my Horse Log Book, I have Awesome Q 10, solid black, with small white dot above left eye and 18 hands. Since I've been following you, and your Awesome videos. I've been keeping a log, along with yours. I write their markings, male or female, height, etc.... Thank you so much, this helps to enhance my days. God Bless from here in Martin, Tn. USA 😊❤🙋♀️🐴💂🌟
Hi John, On Monday 8 April, "Buckingham Palace will be guarded by French troops on Monday following King Charles' approval to honour 120 years of friendly relations between England and France. The event is a historical first, and will mark the anniversary of an agreement known as the Entente Cordiale, translated as 'cordial agreement'. The agreement was put in place in April 1904 in a bid to resolve long-standing disputes, creating a diplomatic understanding between the two countries." There have been rehearsals at BP and Wellington Barracks on RU-vid. Kind regards Sarah
Excellent explanation. Some people obviously don't know anything about the"Entente Cordiale" and are behaving as if we are going to be witnessing the second Norman conquest.
@@margaretflounders8510 our Guards are at the Elysée Palace and were greeted by President Macron. It is the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale. It was quite moving to hear a french choir singing "God save the King".
This looks like a security nightmare 😮. Hello from tourist infested country - Athen Greece. It's difficult for us too. Many areas are inaccessible to locals.😢
I love the way that horse (Q10, or whoever else it is), looks at each person who approaches with ears forward, looks interested/curious, and often lowers his head to be touched. He looks like such a lovely, happy horse! Please tell me I’m not wrong. 😊
The people that goes there are just mean and awful to the guards and horses they shouldn't even be allow to come there makes me so mad the way they get treated Praying for all the guards and horses to stay safe god bless you John also big hugs from Kentucky USA
Even if nothing happened on a day you filmed, just titled it a pleasant day at the Household Cavalry Museum..I'd watch just to listen to your narration and your awesome laugh lol. Been binge watching to see the horses and guards. Thank you for making the videos!
So many tourists have a misperception of these places. I remember the Jewish guy John spoke to about his disrespectful behavior said something along the lines of “that’s what you’re supposed to do” or “they expect that” or something similar. Do they really think military personnel welcome you being disrespectful when you visit? Isn’t that why they had to move the Buckingham Palace guards behind the gates?
John, I am in the USA. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED your channel. Yes, I subscribed. Your commentary, the tenor of your voice and the scenes that you share have kept me returning to your channel. Your voice relaxes me. The sounds heard through the videos are informative. I’m not sure if I’ll have an opportunity to visit London, however, you have brought This part of London to me. Thank you for introducing me to Q10. I think he is absolutely magnificent - one of the finest of God’s creations. Funny, I get agitated by the same behavior/ responses of the visitors as you. Thank you again, my new “friend” John.🌺🌺🌺
My holy Father!! Those Chinese so disrespectful. Why do everyone think that we are push overs??? Pissers me off so much and the Pratts with the camera 🤔 please!! Stay safe John ❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧
Horse blowing and snorting is a natural behavior that occurs in horses. It is a way for horses to express emotion and communicate with one another. When a horse snorts or blows, it is usually a sign that it is feeling alert, excited, or stressed. The sound of a horse blowing or snorting is created by air being forced through the nostrils.
The police horses are really handsome. The horses should not be fed by the public. If the horse is Q10 he is magnificent. A horse I would have loved to have ridden. It's amazing how clueless tourists can be. Thanks for a terrific video, John. 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
I was visiting horse guard for picture and horse grabbed my backpack because there was a bag of apples in it from the market. Someone from inside gave a hand. Beautiful animal, I certainly wouldn’t try to feed it.
While you're so close ask the Chinese not to barge up to the horse. Foaming is good and acts as an acid neutralizer. Horses produce stomach acid 24/7 they don't have a gallbladder. So foaming is good. Rider hands are light and soft too.
My guess is that there was something in the apple that is disagreeing with the horse. But that is just my guess, going on what Buska has said. Or some got caught on the bits, and he was frothing trying to get it off of the bits, and getting frustrated that he couldn't. Hi John, wishing you a rain free Paris trip. On mystery horse I do not recall Q10 having any markings. I hope I am mistaken because Q10 is one of my all time favorites.
John, horses froth more when they're stressed. It's not likely to be a bad apple, but a horse that's had enough. The head tossing is a sign of distress as well.
ps to my last - no matter how well trained the troop horses are, they are horses! Those huge numbers of milling people are really challenging to a horse - remember they are prey animals. I'm not surprised some just take a look and quit.
That mark under his forelock is called a WHORL. It's just a natural way the hair goes on this horses face. Many horses have one, some even have 2. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
@@TheMegahusky Yes. It's exactly like a fingerprint for a horse, John. I hope you enjoy your trip to gay Paris!! Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
@lynnegee6814 It's devastating news for Yvonne. To lose first all the prospects of RS, then to lose her heart horse, Uniek, the only good thing is the foal of Uniek that the beautiful Coralle carried for Uniek, Belle. Best Regards from a Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
It's horrible to see the horses stressed but lovely when they lean in for a 'cuddle' ❤ The old routemasters... childhood memories, I used them back and forward to school in the 70's and to visit my grandparents every weekend in Fulham ☺️
OMG...who open the gate or cage and let all these crazy animals out...lol..Hi John...you sure are brave to put up with this...be safe you and your reader..
Q-Tim (I've no idea how to spell him) is so absolutely beautiful. He is my favorite. What a day huh? Thank you for braving the crowds and bringing us this footage. People watching at its best!

Q 10 totally enjoyed that Apple...the soaping is pleasure here...I'm going to miss you the next few days but I have Abdullah and Busker to fill in til you come back from holiday...enjoy your vaca. You have more than earned it! Come home safe.
He does look like Q10. I have a pic of the dot on the foot and shiny hooves with no numbers. I just don't remember the small white mark under the fringe. Gosh he's a beauty!
John spoke to them. They are a crew from Saudi national television are were really annoyed that, as a commercial enterprise, they need a licence to film in Horseguards. I'm sure they would need permission to film in any Saudi military installation too so what makes them think, as foreign nationals, they can freely film in any other countries military establishments?
@@msfrred1st He even admitted in the conversation with John that he knew he was supposed to get permission but if he went through the processes they'd only be able to film once a year (in other words, he was exaggerating the time delays involved with the paperwork and he thought they'd just circumvent the rules that apply to official press/media). I'm hoping the MOD police report that back to the authorities so that any request from that press organisation may be "delayed" further. ;-)
Q10 or not to be Q10, that is the question. 🤔 Seems like a 50/50 split from all the commenters. I'll wait for the expert (John) to confirm. Either way. A stunning horse. Enjoy France, I am très jealous.😊❤
Hi John, you've captured some beautiful moments - thanks for sharing again The foaming can be the horse self soothing/calming; many horses produce "happy foam" in the mouth as a sign of ease and contentment. If the horse showed excessive foam/sweat around the shoulders or chest in addition to the mouth, I would definitely stop and give it a once over, or try a few calming techniques. ❤
I had a very large quarter horse named Lady who was almost 16 hands. She was big but these horse are ginormous! The police horses are massive too. My husband had a mustang who wasn’t that tall but that horse was intense! You could just feel the power he had standing near him. My husband used him in the mountains to guide people to hunt
Severe lack of common sense and respect to their surrounding. In their country party officials are allowed to be as abusive as they can be to the people, which is reflected on the commoners who can be abusive to each other (without excepting King's Guards) as dictated by sheer instinct and impulse, exactly as exhibited here. To put it simply they are fools.
The Asian people are another group that is very disrespectful. They grab the reins more and I've noticed they want to touch the guards more. I don't like how they run up to the horse and take a picture, then run away. Come running up to the horse could scare the horse and you get bit. They're really overdramatic with the way they act. I really wish they could control the number of people, it's getting really bad
Horses tend to blow like that when they are wary, not sure or nervous, the foaming at the mouth, denotes that the horse has a what is called a 'soft mouth' and plays with the bit consistently. Some horses can get their tongue over the bit, when this happens one has much less, if any control of that horse.
Another great video share! Q10 sure seems like he enjoys meeting the kids and enjoys letting them pet him. He really looks awesome! Really surprised how security allows folks to crowd in so much. Has there ever been a time they created a cue system for folks to get pix or view this area so they can control their movements or does that violate some sort of public space rule?
John i love your enthusiasm to find out information about the horses and guards which helps us watching because even with googling you dont find out much so thanku. 😊
I am new to your channel and have just subscribed. Thank you for the fascinating insight you provide about your beautiful city. I am awed and amazed by the discipline and composure demonstrated by the Guards and the police. I am equally shocked and appalled by the behavior of some of the visitors. Whether through ignorance or willful bad behavior they denigrate and disrespect a rich and storied tradition. Hopefully they will learn to appreciate what they are being permitted to witness. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Thank you for your videos. You have a nice voice. It is good to see what good work the soldiers do, and lovely to see the horses. Don't always have time to watch the full videos, so would be useful if you could state the time when the incidents begin in the video. In this case it was approximately 09:50. Thanks again for making your videos. Take care
Ex riding instructer/horse trainer here. One yard I worked at, they brought me out the resident bad boy they wanted me to work on. He was 17.3 hands. I’m 5 feet 2. Took me a stepladder to get on as their mounting block wasn’t big enough. Enoch was the horse’s name, he was jet black and built like a tank. 3 years old and barely backed. I had to draw on every bit of strength and skill I’d acquired over the years to persuade him who was boss.
