POLICE CHARGE ME... Learning my lesson the hard way | Enduro gone wrong

So unfortunately this video is not the situation I had planned for a day out greenlaning riding enduro.... police says it sall, but unfortunately for me, it was totally my fault.
Anyway long story short I went out hoping to have some fun riding byways and a bit of greenlaning. Things turned bad before we even got going and the Police decided to pull us over. As you can see from the thumbnail the cops decided that today wasn't going to be a good day for me.
After having pulled us over and inspecting the bike, this police officer decided to get into it and you can see the rest in the video.
For those who support the channel and saw my last video this will definitely make a lot more sense, but in short we always try and be super respectful to the police and having friendly cops is something we definitely want to encourage, so I had to take this one on the chin and just get on with it.

@@Mo-xx9gg Insurance is for road legal vehicles using the public highway and doesn't cover private property. If they were green laning the bikes need to be road legal because it's a public highway.

Absolutely right! Couple of bits missing get fines and points. My bike was stolen, they called me to say they had found it at a house in Their back garden, I went to pick it up and the people were in. I said what's happening to them for stealing my bike and they just said nothing unless. You have cctv of who stole it. Fkin useless

But the bike wasn't road legal? Let's be honest, if any of us were driving down the high st with no rear lights/brake lights and a Xmas cracker number plate we are asking for a pull! Where I live, it's usually travellers on stolen off road bikes making a nuisance of themselves on private land. The land owners can't tell the difference. Some people create their own storms then get mad when it rains!

Your bike has to be road legal anywhere other than private land. But aside from the undersized plate, it was road legal. Copper didn’t have the first clue how to do his job.

@@carlh4212 you’re wrong, as unbelievable as it is, for a daytime MOT you don’t need a brake light as long as no other lights are fitted on the bike. You also don’t need a speedometer, indicators or mirrors unless they were fitted as original equipment from new. In fact, you can get a daytime MOT on a motocross bike even without a V5 just using the VIN. Once you’ve done that you send the MOT and certificate of date of manufacture from the manufacturer with a fee to DVLA and they will give you a registration number. SO, the Policeman was wrong to say you need a brake light, also your bike has to be road legal, taxed and insured whether on the road or the byway.

I got done £100 for small plate so I now run a legal size flexible so no excuse to stop me anymore, I now it looks shit but can't afford to keep paying £100 every time I get pulled I've learnt my lesson.

For off road motorcycling it's almost impossible to have a 100% legal number plate as even full size 9x7 flexiplates are not properly legal. For that you need a 9x7 perspex plate and these are so heavy they fall off dual sports on trails.

It must be different in Cyprus but here the lanes are so few and far between we have to ride quite a lot of normal roads to get to them and between them. If the bike isn't registered and you get caught, your bike will be seized and crushed.

The policing system is closing what it does and doesn't deal with. They deliberate pick easy and safe things. They try their best not to deal with more serious crimes. When I day "they" I mean those at the top. What an abomination of misuse of the tax payers hard earned money.

He's talking out his arse, the only items needed to be road legal are a continuous sounding horn and full size number plate, no need for reflectors,brake lights or number plate lights. I ran my R1 and fireblade race bikes on the road for years, and every MOT they just needed full size plate and a horn. You get an advisory on the MOT "no lights fitted at the time of test" and that is it.

I’m sure the law changed about the rear light around a year ago for daytime mot , I didn’t need any lights just as you say a battery horn road legal tyres on my YZ but my mot man said I was lucky as the law was getting tighter because everyone’s road registering mx bikes and pit bikes.

Firstly, there is no such thing as a 'daytime MOT', it's a regular MOT with advisory notices attached, stating the bike must be used in daylight hours only (in the United Kingdom) WHAT DO I NEED TO PASS AN MOT? In the UK there are a few basic requirements to make your bike MOT worthy. It may surprise some to hear you're able to pass an MOT on a bike that has no brake lights, headlights, tail lights, indicators* or a speedometer fitted. The only requirements are a horn, a chain guard (if pillion pegs are present) and a number plate (complete with reflector). If you have BUTTONS on the bars for lights and indicators, they must be removed. A sidestand is also needed to complete the MOT test. BUT WHAT ABOUT CONSTRUCTION AND USE REGULATIONS?!?! Yes, C&U regs are a murky world full of contradictions. For instance you can pass an MOT without a speedo, but you can break C&U regulations by riding on the road without one

I was under the impression that you don't need lights. Is only a requirement for the MOT if you have headlight. Horn and Number plate was everything you need over a stock bike.

If you have any lights fitted they all must be fitted. If you don’t have any of them them fitted, that’s OK. It’s all on the GOV website. Yes, you need an electric horn. In relation to this stop, the only thing the Cop got right was the number plate. Bang to rights on that one. He didn’t even know if points would be awarded. Not the sharpest. I hope you didn’t cough for the long list he was trying to read you, as most of it was bollocks. You handled it well; nod politely then argue the toss later.

A word of warning years ago me and my mate were trail riding and without even knowing cops were chasing us i didnt stop just kept riding i was in front my buddy was run down buy them and handcuffed face down in the mudd as they went f####ing nuts at him as to why we didnt stop dah motos dont have mirrors lesson learned if you gunna run make sure they dont catch you ha 😊

We are the same where I live in Scotland if u get caught u get banned from driving etc and police helicopters come out the lot. That's us with all the proper gear on and away out everyone's way. If a old woman gets mugged down the street they will chase it up about 2 days later but us on motorbikes they surround us from all angles

Went to court for riding a mx bike on the road got a good solicitor they wanted to charge me with no tax no mot no licence no insurance got off on a loop hole in the law saying that a moto cross bike is not a vehicle the same as a lawn mower they did not like it! 😁👍

Crime rate in England and Wales rose 10 percent and we are observing why. Instead of telling him to change to a larger rate and get a proper reflector, he issues a ticket instead of patrolling. Better than the US, they normally at the donut stop, having coffee or abusing drivers civil rights.

This is 100% correct also you need the red reflector. Surrey police are okay with small plates (depending who you get) not on a super Bikes’s (been pulled up in box hill car park). Hampshire police make you have a full size metal number plate and they don’t care how bent up they gets. I carry a full size plate in my bag and just say it fell off! Also I would not let them take a picture of you or your bike.

No such thing as a "daylight MOT" however the minimun you need plate, plate light, rear tailight, speedo and horn. Once the MOT has been given you can only ride the bike after sunrise and 30 mins before sunset.

Poor policing. This officer was presented with an opportunity to exercise his discretion and pursuit the arguably greater goal of building relations, not only with the small group here that are, for the largest part, compliant with both their instructions and the law, but with the larger community they're part of. Disappointingly, while some of his colleagues adopted this approach, he chose to forgo this in favour of a couple of easy points. Bravo officer (slow-clap). Though, unfortunate as this outcome may be, on the plus side, perhaps we should be thankful that this behaviour is generally what constitutes poor policing here in the UK. Police here are, on the grand scheme of things, pretty good. Had this confrontation taken place in another part of the world, there's a strong possibility of somebody being arrested/shot/killed - perhaps all 3.

I know the feeling, I got done for a defective brake on my fs1e way back, many years ago. There was no rear brake and I had been winging it rather than get it fixed. Points on my licence, so it taught me a valuable lesson. If your vehicle is not roadworthy, leave it at home until it’s fixed.

As a fellow greenlaner it would be wise to ensure the bike is legally compliant. If it were, he would have nothing on you. We all live & learn. I also never ride where the law says i can't. I dont like it but again, its their law and by riding on their roads I have to abide by their laws. Play them at their own game.

My concern about this would be that the officer was asking questions about the offence before he cautioned. Effectively getting certain addmissions before the biker was made aware that he doesn't have to answer such questions.

I'm sure the biker in question already knew before the officer started asking questions besides if the officer doesn't ask, he does not know if the offence is chargable or indeed, even an offence. Its called investigating! You could just answer "no comment" to everything and be awkward by withholding your details but thats just going to make your stop last a whole lot longer... and if the officer feels your being deliberately obstructive you could be arrested for that!

Yeah I have been stopped loads of times before and never had any issues. It was my bad I had ridden the day before and snapped my subframe and numberplate holder off etc, I just wasn’t patient enough to wait for the new bits to arrive. Lesson learned and yeah never worth running, as I say we are usually all legal and legit. I just had a bad day and got the guy who was being a stickler.

OMG there are a number of points here. 1. Byways are road so you need to be road legal. 2. You do not require a rear brake light, if fitted it has to be in good working order. There are only 2 offences from what I can see 1. Number plate too small and not legal size. 2. No rear reflector ( that one I'm not sure on as if you do not have rear brake light it's not ridden at night).

You don't need lights as long as you have an MOT which says daylight use only and you are riding it in daylight. I believe a rear reflector and brake light is required for an MOT subject to some fairly limited conditions otherwise.

I got pulled over on my TM300E on my ( 2km) way to work. Bike was used only off road and had the numberplate bent at the edges ( so as to not slice my leg!). Pulled over for 'obscured plate'. Then it got worse. I failed the 'dickhead test' and tried to say it must've bent when I fell off- both sides equally! I should have been honest and copped it. The plate issue cost me 4 points and $400 AND he defected the bike due to : no chain guard, indicators too small etc etc. Lesson learned.

Watching this makes me sick and just shows how pathetic the police are going after easy targets. Where i live, every Sunday around the same time around 60+ off toad bikes, quad's etc go past my house on a main road. Many with no helmets, no plates, no lights, doing wheelies, driving on the wrong side of the road and many times across the pavement at about 60mph, two times i have seen them nearly run people over, one of these being a woman with a pushchair. Pretty much the same time every sunday for the past 5 years. And where are the police, the pathetic losers are hiding away down a green lane like this. How about they actually get out on the main road where theres people using bikes clearly illegally and actually putting many people in danger

I've had a flexi 'show' plate for years never had it brake and never had an issue with the police about it even when doing a couple rides for them to encourage off piste riders to go greenlaning with our group instead :D They're about a tenner for a flexi its a 100 pound fine for a small plate no brainer really...
