My take on Blind Blake’s Police Dog Blues live at Osta Cafe on the banks of the Garavogue River in Sligo town on the final day of the fantastic Sligo Live Festival.
Not to mention non-standard Tuning, Open D, if I remember right. This Level of Performance requires a high level of dedication. Deserving of all the superlatives.😮😮😮
totally agree, the actual right hand action takes a lot of practice. and then to throw the open tuning on top of that.. hey im 72 and still consider myself "average" in this style of pickin. I just think its great that someone so young reverts back to the beginning of todays music. It really is something that many pickers will gravitate back to the "beginnings" of some of the best music on the planet. I evolved from rock, to blues, to old country blues and discovered the beauty of this music . Then I discovered how this music influenced blue grass and how much blues is actually in blue grass.. we all have a journey.. I would like to see her in 10 years.. see what path she finds for herself.. wonderful video.. just wonderful.
The fact that this is wonderful young artist has embraced these beautiful and moving songs from 90-100 years ago, written and performed by the originators of the blues, and the fact that she knows who Blind Blake was, and I imagine Lemon Jefferson and Gary Davis and Memphis Minnie and Big Joe Williams, fills my heart. Bravo.
Impressive picking, I'm 72 and listened to blues all my life and your guitar playing is as good as it gets. Your voice is young, light and female not your average blues sound but it works and is quite refreshing. The way you roll and dance through these blues standards is a joy to listen to. Keep it up. Thank you Muireann you made an old scotsman happy.
It's mind blowingly good isn't it! I kept bursting out laughing cause at different points in the album she'd do something on that guitar that was what i'd expect from a master with 50 years experience.. Coming from a kid!
I think she has heard the songs so many times growing up, and seen her dad play them, that everything was already in place before she picked up the guitar.@@danpatterson7108
I'm same age, and been in love with the blues since my teen age years. This was fresh and lovely. So great to find a new "purist", they are rare these days
I was probably one of the first broadcasters to play Blind BLake´s music on Irish Radio (The HOuse of R&B ..Radio 1) back in the 80´s ..I never thought. back then there would. come such an extraordinary talent as Muireann obviously is. ! She has it all...technique, feel, etc!! The spirit if the old ragtime blues lives on in her hands.
This is a very rare God given talent we have here. Both vocal and guitar plucking are both pitch perfect, Godspeed to you young Muireann Bradley. Slainte.
Just received your CD in the mail a couple days ago after hearing you on social media. I have not been this enthused by a new blues guitarist in years. I've been a blues fan since my teens and am now 72. I look forward to hearing more of your stuff. You've got that sweet style of Mississippi John Hurt, Elizabeth Cotten, Rev. Gary Davis and the rest of those wonderful old time country blues players. Thanks for keeping that great stuff alive. You are an incredible artist.
@@datanotfound4556 Tompkins Square Records. I found their online store. I have an unopened copy for my nephew and the US address is: Josh Rosenthal/Tompkins Square/2335 Larkin Street Apt 11/San Francisco, CA 94109. I play my copy all the time and since Neph is a guitar player I figure he needs to hear Ms. Bradley. I'll probably wind up buying more of her albums to give to all my old blues hound friends. Well, the ones that are still alive. Search Tompkins Square records and they will set you up. Wait until you hear her rendition of Shake Sugaree. And Stagolee. And Richland Woman Blues. And Candyman. Hell, the whole album is dynamite. I got it in CD but it is also available in vinyl and, are you ready? Cassette. Think I'll put that CD on now.
Thank you Jools Holland for bringing this amazing girl / young woman into the limelight …. Wow … what a breath of fresh air … I came straight to her YT channel and subscribed immediately and I’m looking forward to listening to many more beautiful renditions of fantastic classics…. I wish Muireann massive success in 2024 and beyond … this girl ACTUALLY HAS talent … 👍
Did you hear her on radio6? that's where i heard her, couldn't stop listening to it! That voice is so perfect for it as well! Was immediately seeing it in some indie film in my head.
I was moved to tears also. When I first heard Ry Cooders version I dedicated myself to learning this wonderful blues song. I never got it exactly right but you have. Kudos.👏
Fantastic Muireann - I'm 77 now , been playing blues and folk since I was 12 and I'm never going to catch up with you! I guess great musicians are born and I believe you have a great future ahead - don't ever lose it🙂!
I've come back to guitar now that I'm retired & tonight I've been blessed to discover this amazing young lady & also Saxon Weiss an 11year old guitar prodigy, all within the last few minutes ..young gifted musicians like this amazes me too no end ...just magically beautiful ❤✌🏽🎸😎
I feel blessed to have discovered you. You play Blind Blake exactly like he played it, without missing a note. And singing along - that's the cherry on the top. Keep making good music. Love from India
I used to think that nobody could interpret Blind Blake better than Leon Redbone. That was before I heard this wonderful young lady from Ireland. I ordered her CD and it is all fantastic. Mississippi John Hurt, Reverend Gary Davis, this girl plays them all with her intricate picking and light touch harmonics. I play her record every day.
I hope you realize what a gift you have. I'm an old guy who has been playing for many years and will never attain to what you already have. Keep going!
faith fully restored in the younger generations .... outstanding young lady ... i wish you every bit of luck and good graces on your future ...most refreshing thing i have seen in music in a very very long time ...
Love the respect you show to the original artists ....It is really nice to see such a young (old soul) playing these songs...... exceptional talent. thank you
I was looking up the artists for Jools' Hootenanny and I came across this. Absolutely fantastic playing and singing, I really hope tonight's broadcast helps bring your music to so many new listeners!
Better musisions and singers at every London tube station, you Paddy's just love to heap praise on people like this and Daniel O'Donnell and that other smelly junky McGowan, give us a break and stop idolising idiots like this just cause they are Paddy's ffs
Absolutely fantastic! I heard a clip of this on RTE Radio One this morning and couldn’t believe this sound was coming from a young Donegal girl. Well done! And please keep going with this.
I saw you on Jools Holland's hootenanny, you were the highlight of the show, your playing and vocals were inspirational. You are a rare talent, best of luck for your career.
Not since riverdance have I been so proud. Her dad taught her. He's probably as good but he admitted savage stage fright in an interview on northern Irish radio station. What a dad.
Love it, and of course you're from Donegal , a county full of talented musicians 😁 l just read your announcement that you're appearing on the Jools Holland Hootenanny on New Year's eve , really looking forward to it. All the best in your future.
Just surfed in after watching on the hootenanny. A great talent and a super performance. I have been trying to learn police dog blues for longer than you are alive and still I am no where near. Good luck for the future.
Simply amazing, how someone this young can bring back 100 year old music. So glad I'm a part of that ✨ I'm a fan of your work Muireann, I knew Police Dog Blues would bring so much attention. You still freak me out how you do it I'm still trying to play that song, it's still relevant after so many years.
Muireann has brought the old blues back to life....just fantastic young lady!! Looking forward to your performance tomorrow night (Monday) 15/ 09 on the Cerys Matthews show on BBC Radio 2 at 21.00hrs....good luck Muireann.
Yep. This is awesome. Lowkey my favorite cover in here. I watched your older cover for the first time like, 2 weeks ago, this is just as good. Atta girl.
Well, I thought you were fluent in Blake three years ago, but you’ve just excelled yourself again! Well done, Muireann. Love the flair in the last guitar break - as ever, putting your own touch in there. You make my day whenever I see you posted a new video. 😊
Thank you so much, in the guitar break I added I tried to play the dog barking and howling listen again see if you can hear it! Thanks for continuing to listen🙏😊❤️
Yeah, I do hear that - nice touch! I know that you know it will come in time, with more live experience, but having the confidence to relax into those “howls”, and maybe even double the length of them could push that notion further. Top notch stuff though, as ever!
Outstanding! I'm in awe of your talent and the way you have resurrected these beautiful ol' blues tracks and brought them forward to the present day, you are so f*cking cool ma'am. Please keep on doing what you're doing Muireann.
Do you believe in what they call a throw back. Some one who looks like some one else genetically ,or sounds like the musical embodiment of a long gone era in time. She is it. Thank you for coming back around once again.
Molly Tuttle and Tommy Emmanuel are going to tour England in the next few weeks. If you can I greatly recommend seeing them are the are both phenomenal guitarists. Slan leat.
Just brilliant! My copy of your CD arrived early, and I've been enjoying it so much. For me, this song is one of the many highlights, and it's a treat to see you playing and singing it in front of what is clearly an appreciative audience with very good taste in music!
Hi Muireann, I hope you don't mind, but I have sent this video to Richard Lindsay who organises the Ullapool guitar festival. Woody Mann, Stefano Grossman. Elliot Randall, Clive Carrol to name but a few. I really think you would fit in very well with this environment and the people. Great atmosphere and great setup. I hope he contacts you. You would love this event, Bruce.
Dear Bruce, was just reading your post and thought would let you know that Woody Mann passed away January 2022, in case you are not aware..... Great talent, and great guy that he was.
@ceilnatkins2680 thanks for your reply, Yes I did know, he was a pure gentleman and time spent with him was fabulous. RIP In fact I received one of those gig emails and they still had a follow for Woody Mann. I sent them an email enlightening them to his passing, took of the woody page but no obituary or even a statement to inform people of his passing.
Excellent, got the groove just right. Astonishing to think this artist is likely a still decade or two away from the peak of her ability and sophistication.
