A new scheme is training graduates to become detectives in just "a matter of months".
The Home Office hopes the Police Now initiative will tackle a 5,000-strong national shortfall.
The BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme has been given exclusive access to meet two of its first ever recruits.
Producer Sean Clare has been to meet them.

I can't believe how under the radar this channel is mate! Keep at it. You only need one vid to catch, and it will no doubt take off. Quality content! Subbed.

I don't have very good grades, before my exams in school, I had a problem online which had a huge impact on me. Even so I've always loved solving mysteries, I'd always play murder mysteries in my spare time. So although i don't have good grades, can I still become a detective? I dont have a particularly good reason why i want to be a detective, i just love problem solving (which is why i play murder mysteries in the first place) To be honest, i don't even know what I need to do to become a detective. I've searched online, but i don't what's reliable and what's not.

You need to have graduated from University with a degree bare minimum and meet the other eligibility, funny enough I am in the process of the recruitment stage for Police Now as well again (bearing in mind I already did apply last year). If you need any tips and advice mate just respond here, and I will attempt my best to try and answer all of your question to the best of my knowledge. Update: I have passed the new brand immersive assessment with flying colours, which of course I'm over the moon about! Now I've booked my Assessment Centre, and I need to perform very well it's on the 15th of this month, I'm going to start preparing from today and will tell the result later. However, hopefully even if I do pass it you've got physical and medicals to pass. Quite frankly it has to be the correct person! Edit: The above I've described is for the "National Graduate Leadership Programme" to become a Neighbourhood police officer (Police Constable). I've passed thr Assessment Centre as well, literally I've learnt it after 3-4 days so feel privileged it was so quick. I've also done MET Day 2 Assessment Centre consisting of fitness, fingerprint, DNA, Misuse drug test and finally Medical which I've passed all except Medical as they requested further evidence. Then hopefully, after vetting I shall be all in the clear once I graduate from Uni and get a final offer 😅 As previosuly mentioned if you have any questions, I can answer to the best of my knowledge but don't know everything, therefore for Police now there is a Q&A on 18/2/24 so book the event.

@@netayconnection6236 Yeah I was also wondering about joining the Police when I'm older. I'm looking to become a detective in an area with tons of homicides, would Central London be good?

nice to let the burglars know that they were on their way by sounding their siren
@GregLemons
@GregLemons 9 месяцев назад
It's not a video game, Wendy. You can't speed through red lights and get cars to yield without having your sirens on, otherwise there would have definitely been a crash. And if the burglar hears sirens in the distance they will be more likely to leave the house and if they are attacking anyone, stop attacking them.

@northernlights1605
@northernlights1605 2 года назад
Yes! As soon as you start your training you'll get paid the starting salary. The longer you work, the better your salary gets. Obviously Detective Constables start a little lower, but there's a massive difference, for example, when you've been doing the job for say seven years or so.
