These videos may help you in certain parts of the assessment but these how to become a police officer are mostly polished up scams, to a certain degree. Real advice, just be yourself and answer any questions to the best of your ability and you will pass. Never pay any money towards as how to answer questions etc. Best wishes from Northern Ireland.

Useful video, but I would make one point, as a veteran of civil service competency interviews over the years. You say don't make the example up, but that's the key problem with competency interviews; you CAN make them up and nobody knows. Far better to mix it up with a scenario for at least one of the competencies; for one CS job (HMRC investigator) they used a fictional scenario for Making Effective Decisions, which was much better as you had to show what decisions you would make in the scenario, and explain your rationale. You can't cheat on that, whereas you can just make things up otherwise, for example seeing what others have done and then just nicking their work, particularly if it's an interview for another organisation where nothing can be checked.
@CareerVidz
@CareerVidz 4 года назад
Hi Paul, yes, I agree with you. If the interviewer is savvy enough they should ask 'probing questions' to make sure the situation is genuine. More and more interviewers are using probing questions following an answer now to get find out more. Cheers, Richard

Hi, thank you for this video, I recently graduated in Criminal Investigation with the aspiration of becoming a detective, i have an interview this month with the Met but have never been in a working environment. I'm fear that they will be incredibly unimpressed with my answers of initiative/teamwork or empathy as they will all be personal experiences, i.e. social/ at school/university or personal. What tips do you have that could help make my answers more professional and less mundane? Many thanks!
@CareerVidz
@CareerVidz 5 лет назад
No problem and thanks for commenting... It's hard to say without looking at the situations you plan to present - how2ever, I still feel it is possible to give specific/solid answers from non-work related scenarios. If you get the opportunity, try and do some voluntary/community work between now and the interview as I feel this type of work can give you some great experience. even if you volunteer to work for a couple of days in a homeless shelter/charity, this could be a positive thing and give you more situations to draw from. Good luck with your interview and I hope you pass :) Cheers, Richard

@@CareerVidz Thank you very much, I've brought the book before and I will keep going over it and gaining as much knowledge as I can. This is my first time at a assessment center and I want to prepare for it as much as possible before the date of the 30th September 2018. They haven't given us much information on the day of the assessment, since they said you'll get more details on it later and I believe they stated the 14th of September. Do you have any videos specifically for the British transport police? I think it'd be really beneficial for a video solely focused on the BTP, since they do things slightly more differently to other forces. I also wanted to inform you that the Ability test will probably be the stage I struggle at the most. I'm not very good at maths, but my English is really good. If I do poorly at maths, will that really effect the overall progression? Even if I did really well on the other parts. I don't think the maths questions will be that hard, I assume they are mostly basic.

The description of the interview here and how to answer questions, comes across as though the interview is a university biochemistry exam, where you have to answer the questions, giving very complex and intricate, well thought out answers. @@CareerVidz As a a point of reference. Recently I applied for graduates jobs at schools. Some questions were "how would you organise your time" These are very silly and disrespectful questions for university graduates, because if you have been to a good university, whether Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Manchester or Imperial College, you cannot be successful in a degree at any level, unless you are very organised with your time. So employers should assume university graduates they interview, have all these general skills.. The same goes for experience with excel and computer word processing packages, like microsoft word or open office writer. I actually graduated in 1996 BSc Biochemistry. My memories of interviews then , was they didn't ask silly and patronising questions, because far fewer people went to university then,. Degrees meant more. A friend who also did geography at Aberdeen University, and spend a year on a ship doing geographical surveys, says he was given a very informal interview in 1996, and got the job. Few questions were asked,. They could see he was a bright university graduate and the ship was keen to leave harbor. Now, because far more people do degrees, degrees are treated like school exams by employers, even though a graduate with a good degree from a good university, has skills and knowledge, that are lightyears beyond those of school leavers, and the person being interviewed, gets asked naive and condescending questions. I blame the people doing the interviews, for not using common sense and thinking. Good universities still mean what they meant 25 years ago. But there are many 2nd rate 1992 universities churning out 2nd rate degrees and 2nd rate graduates,. I have experience of 1992 universities and 2nd rate degrees.

Depends. Some police services let you join as a detective (if you’re a uni graduate). If you don’t want to go to Uni there’s the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship.

Hi will the process be the same for becoming a BTP Officer?
@harleystones4794
@harleystones4794 6 лет назад
Hi mate, I’m only 18, however I have the relevant qualifications to apply and it has always been a huge passion of mine. Two questions really, just to be 100%, I don’t need a degree before applying do I? Just as an email I received confused me a tad. Secondly, even though I am only young I feel as though I have the necessary experience and skill set to join the force. At my age, is this realistic? Thanks a lot for your help mate.
@CareerVidz
@CareerVidz 6 лет назад
Hi Harley, you don't need a degree to become a regular police officer. Age is no barrier, and providing you can match the experiences required, you will not be discriminated because of your age. Just make sure you meet the eligibility requirements for the force you are applying for. You can even attend our police officer training course if you want to, to learn how to pass: www.how2become.com/courses/police-officer-2/

If only the police could recruit we would be sorted but due to budget cuts they darely even recruit
@CareerVidz

Yeah, I tend to agree with you there. I think having a robust and sufficient police force is important. Hopefully, they will start recruiting soon to the numbers we had back in the 2000's.

@CareerVidz 6 лет назад
Hi Enduro, our advice is to try and gain experience in the assessable area. For example, if you have no prior experience of working in the community, you could volunteer at a local community centre or charity. It's always best to be able to refer to example of situations you have been in, as opposed to saying what you would do in a given situation or scenario. I hope this helps. Richard

Hi Richard. I have a assessment date for Met police soon and I have a very important question related to the interview questions I understand that they cannot tell us what questions will appear however for me to actually start thinking of answers I don’t want to drift off and think of wrong answers. Is there any advice on this? Should I think of answers for just the 4 values or just the 6 competencies or 10 including both? I will really appreciate if anyone or Richard can give me advice on this. Thanks!
@CareerVidz

Hi Ram, my advice is to prepare answers for all and include both. Here is a Met Police specific guide that will help: www.how2become.com/product/2018-brand-new-how-to-become-a-police-officer-guide-paperback-book/ Good luck, Richard

Not judging. The whole world is set up to show Consequences for doing wrong. All have lied and stolen and looked with lust. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. We are saved by grace through faith. And faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. We must be willing to turn from sin to receive Jesus forgiveness , and to know and live out his teachings. He who does the will of God abides for eternity 1 John 2:17. KJV, NKJV
