Pen is a truth speaking....they are always made out as bad by those who can't handle the biting truth.

Right! I always felt that no one gave Pen the love/care she truly deserves. She's always on her own, practically alone. So I completely understand why LW means so much to her. It's a full 360 for her. She can't confide in or trust anyone (not her friends/definitely not her family and the monarch wants her head so that's a triple no). She was shunned by the society she fought so hard to be a part of. When she lashes out it is completely understandable.

That is because they drastically changed things. Penelope was always overlooked and mistreated but not by Eloise. Pen also NEVER said anything about the Bridgertons and she only ever mocked those that were bullies. She was also never portrayed as arrogant or prideful the way she is in the show. Like in the show they make it seem like she is seeking compliments or adoration through Whistledown and in the books it's more like her way to have her voice heard and get justice for the underdogs. IDK she just never came across as spiteful in the books and in the show, at times, they make her seem that way which is disappointing. I maintain revealing her as Whistledown so early as the mistake. Also focusing on her and Eloise so much was a mistake as well. What made her awesome was she was always their but in the background, so when it rolls around in book 4 you can see all the little moments that build up to this big decade long thing. I feel like it's really anti-climactic now that everyone already knows and her and Colin are getting together so soon. They should have just followed the books more tbh. But sorry that got long and ranty lol.

Because its only cool being a imperfect, traumatized character that cope in a harmful way, hurting others and themselfs in the process, is when that character is averege looking white men

She was treated badly by everyone but Eloise... Yet she betrayed her. Don't get me wrong Penelope is my favourite character in the series, but she was selfish and cruel towards Eloise at the end and even pretended to do it to protect her. She protected lady Whistledown first. She chose lady Whistledown over her friendship with Eloise knowing that if she was to find out, she would be mad at her but she did it anyway

I have been thinking over and over that no one has ever loved Penelope unconditionally. The second Eloise realized that Penelope was her own intelligent person she left. And Penelope did fucked up things so I get why she left. The end of season 2 really sees Penelope all alone. Her friends she thought she had left her. Her family is abusive towards her. So she went back to what she is good at, making fun of Queen Charlotte.

@@InfinitelyRay I agree. If you truly consider yourself someone's friend; you would at least talk, try to understand, and put yourself to the side for a moment to get a glimpse of that person's situation, at least a little. Eloise just up and left without letting her explain what was happening etc and she'll probably never try to. Eloise always putted herself first over Penelope.

@@hadassah-rcy88 I can see why Eloise didn’t want to talk it out with Penelope in the heat of the moment since there was a big betrayal here on the part of Penelope. I see a lot of people saying Penelope should have told Eloise she was lady whistledown and come up with a plan together. And I also see that given that multiple times Penelope gave advice that Eloise refused to listen to that maybe it didn’t feel like she could share her secret. Like would Eloise just bully Penelope into changing the genre of her paper? Would she insist on taking it over? Would she bulldoze Penelope again like she always does? Penelope even told her that not only was Eloise probably going to be ruined but Theo would be hurt more so. And Eloise is a Bridgerton. Literally no one at all shunned her. Everyone still wanted to talk to her and be her friend cause she is rich. Like there was a split second where Portia and what’s his face are like oo let’s defraud Colin cause his sister is ruined and like that was the consequence. And people didn’t go to the Bridgerton ball. And like a week later no one cared anymore. Like the Bridgertons are at the end of the season ball. They are laughing with friends. They are very much not long-term affected by that article. Marina on the other hand has her life so messed up. I hate how she handled Marina. Like she did start with trying to just handle it privately but she was so vague it did not work. And she went with this nuclear option and it sucked. And Marina in season 2 is all “I’m zen.” But I wish she was “I found love anyways.” She just seemed like she was faking it so she wouldn’t cry. And I feel like Penelope does owe Marina a huge apology. I’m not sure how to do that in a kind way. Like would she make Marina feel worse to admit it? Marina says she wants to put the past behind her. So maybe an apology would upset her attempts at being zen. But maybe Penelope could do an open letter apology to her in her paper. Maybe that would be a better way to acknowledge that she ruined Marina and Eloise. A sort of “I thought I was doing the right thing. That I was protecting people. But I was misguided. I hurt people. I was aiming to help, but instead I hurt.”

@@InfinitelyRay Agree. It was wrong how she did Marina even tho she tried to save Colin. Marina was pregnant with another man's children and was going to trap Colin, which isn't right and Penelope tried to tell her that but she didn't care. So a lot of things were wrong on many levels towards others and Penelope where it kind of got out of hand.

That is an exceptionally diplomatic way of elucidating this instance of Shonda Rimés work: where in there is a tiresome pattern of relentless grief befalling pale complexion (including asian) characters, whist evermore upsurd for the context good fortune and the only happy endings are for the characters for the deepest complexion characters. ❤Thanks so much for this comment, it's very good to know this Freudian slip of Rimes is not in the actual book!❤

Yes so true book Eloise was a force to be reckoned with. Also Marina's plot in the show was so unnecessary. They could have introduced a new character because Marina's story in the book was heartbreaking and I'm scared if they stick to the same plot then how is Colin going to forgive Penelope for her actions.

Yep. Misery loves company and thats why she kept her around. As soon as she found out she was LW, Eloises true nature came our and she became jealous of the " friend" she has always seen as being beneath her and not of as high of status, a lower birthed " friend" she kept around to feel and act superior over.

I genuinely don't think Pen was wrong. Her exposing her friend was the only thing keeping her friend from jail. The Queen literally found the print shop and threatened Theo because of the Queen finding out about Eloise going there during the wedding catastrophe

I hope that they will get back together eventually. That they will not gonna make us wait another two years, but we will see.

Pen has several times voiced the fact that she desires marriage and her feelings about being a part of the ton. Elosie literally never listened she was in an echo chamber of her own thoughts. Also, where was Elosie when Pen was mourning the death of her father? And why is it when Pen explicitly told Elosie that her relationship with Theo and her running with revolutionists could ruin her and her family, Elosie ignored her?

@@oluwapelumiadeyemo1817 yes the suspicion was true, but that doesn’t warrant what she did. A real friend sits you down and talks it out. If she’s so intellectually advanced and mature then she should be able to do that. But every time I see her she leads with her emotions instead of intelligence. And I think she’s aware of her incompetence, and realizing Pen is smarter than her just drove home that realization. I really think Eloise was just friends with Penn to make herself feel better and to boast about how she was better than everyone else. It’s an unfortunate and uncomfortable truth that sometimes people befriend others because they think they’re doing them a favor. And Penn can’t see how bad of a friend Eloise is. Now she can lord over her head that she knows she’s lady featherington. Eloise is on a power trip, yes her brother may feel someway about Penn making the money in their relationship but as a third son with presumably no land or money to his name once her marries I think Penn just helped him keep his cushy lifestyle. He’ll get over it real quick. Especially once Pen tells him how Eloise was going out alone to see a commoner. Risking her sister’s future matches.

@@Tyler-he4pf Pen was much of a user as Eloise. You might deny it but it's true. It's not like Eloise forced her into being her friends. Plus pen never really expressed herself. If you do not express yourself how can Eloise know what she truly wants. Eloise was wrong yes but Pen was twice as wrong also. Why write about your best friend in the name of protecting her. Her best friend for God's sake. Besides she's 19 in the movie she's still young and is allowed to make mistakes. Also pen is not smarter she literally just repeats gossip hence the name insipid wallflower.

Finally somebody who can objectively assess this situation. People act like just because Penelope had it harder in society, it excuses her behavior. She was extremely selfish in this situation and Eloise had all rights to be upset. What she did didn't just affect Eloise but her family as well. That was cruel to do to somebody you consider a friend talk less your best friend

@@njibih7013 thank you very much. They're being so insensitive. It is okay to like someone and admit they did wrong. Even Eloise doesn't have it all. She can't be herself because there are so many expectations of her. Overall, they're still young and they should be given grace.

Eloise has a secret revenge against her. She pretends to care for her. She was married and Eloise took what p had. She hunted p, each time , same story. Sick psycho unwilling to allow p to be happy. She should be admitted to a ward.

LOL No. The Other Option was to watch Eloise being put behind bars by the Queen, the Bridgerton Family losing all the titles and turning into destitute outcasts. Penelope did the right thing. She valued Her Friend's Life more than the Friendship. The Bridgerton Family with title, can easily build back the reputation Eloise's scandal cost them - and they did. And as for Pen's Column, She merely echoed what the Ton said and did - which would all still be there, even without Her Column. She did Not ask the Ton to read Her Column - the Ton bought her Papers and circulated them themselves. Eloise is an immature person and a bad friend in. Yes She is caring to some extent - as long as the Friend stays under Her shadows. The moment She found out that Pen actually made an Achievement - which Eloise's Rebellious Nature could Not, Eloise insults Her using the words of Penelope's Bully Cressida Cowper. And from the Trailer of Season 3, Eloise will also be sharing acquaintances with Cressida. Eloise has a lot of growing up to do.

I am happy to see I'm not the only one who feels this way! I skipped her book 😅 and she completely ruin S2 for me. S2 was supposed to be about Kate and Anthony and it felt more like it was about Eloise.

I dont think that's true, I think she really did see eloise as a true friend like that one time when both colin and eloise are standing there and she sees eloise and runs to her excited that she's there

Exactly, I am tired of these Pen worshipers because they can't see that she was also a bad friend to Eloise just as Eloise was to her. People say Eloise didn't care about Pen because she never tried to listen to her and one time she did she found out Pen was LW. But it's hard to really know someone when they keep it a secret. We never see Pen actually talking about her feelings to Eloise, so how would she know what's going on in Pen's mind. Also we see how Pen is that one person in the whole world who Eloise trusts, she tells her everything, every feeling, her whole discoveries to her. If that one person breaks your trust, of course you'll be mad. Of course Eloise thinks that she doesn't even know Pen. Has happened with me so I know the feeling. We can't rule out Pen to be an innocent one. She actually likes outmarting Eloise. She is proud that she has LW but Eloise does not have anything like that. She also likes Eloise as LW admirer but is also scared she will find out and that is why does everything to keep her out of tracks. What Eloise does not grasp is their financial situations and actually how privileged she is. But she never treated Pen horribly. She is just a loud and vocal person. She is not mad at Pen for that whole Theo thing but rather how Pen kept such a big secret and how she was foolish enough to tell Pen everything at each and every point. Both were wrong at some point of their friendship but people just like to put all the blame on Eloise and portray Pen to be an innocent victim.

Mostly because Pen in the books is MUCH nicer. Book readers see her through rose colored glasses. She never says anything bad about the Bridgertons (no exposing Marina, no Theo Sharpe incident) to the point that people think LW is part of the Bridgerton family. Eloise doesn't have the same drive to find out who LW is. She isn't hurt in the slightest when she finds out it's Pen, and doesn't really care that much. Mainly because she finds out the day before her own wedding and is therefore very preoccupied lol. The show has turned Pen into a very different version of LW. There was a similar situation in reverse when it came to the character of Frank in Outlander. Show watchers tend to like him or at least feel sorry for him, but book readers have a vicious hate for him because he's horrible in the books.

@@mamaseesa3122 Exactly people see Pen through books lens but I see the series and books totally different. The dinamics are different, their characteristics are different. So people should see them separately. In the show both are bad friends but Pen worshipers don't understand that. I like Eloise more than Pen from S1, but I agree Eloise had been a bad friend but that doesn't mean Pen is an innocent victim.

No one likes Eloise bc she's an inmature, self centered, arrogant AND privileged character. If you don't believe that scroll through the comments You'll find out. No one worships Pen (most worship the actress outside of her role) in fact most ppl who hate Pen defend Eloise's character like she's perfect only bc she identifies as the feminist character. But when it comes to feminism she's a full hypocrite. Even More now that we know she'll became friends with Cressida

@@PunkPro19 first, plenty of people love Eloise, she's one of my daughter's favorite characters. Second, I'm wondering if Eloise is having a fake friendship with Cressida for some reason, one that might even help Pen, especially given Cressida's actions in the book concerning Pen and LW. I can see Eloise being a spy for Pen, especially if she's sorry for yelling at her and wants to make up and be friends again. Trailers are VERY good at taking scenes out of context.

I liked Marina until she said "your love is an unrequited fantasy" to Penelope. That line was said to hurt Penelope's feelings. Penelope was nothing but nice to Marina. Penelope's actions as Lady Whistledown were never selfish. She loved Colin and wanted to protect him from a loveless marriage. Had Marina been a loyal suitor for Colin she would not have meddled.

I think that some people know that Penelope is not innocent in all this but I think that both screwed up actually :)

No Theo ended his friendship with Eloise because she put him in grave danger. She doesn't know the extent of the consequences of her actions because she was too focused on their puppy love. And as far as Teloise goes, it was never going to happen. She was born with a silver spoon. She had people dressing her. Her brother and sister couldn't even work a stove to boil milk. Eloise would've seriously been *u*ked
